I wanted to book an online appointment, so I landed on The Beauty Spot, located within the Sunset Corners shopping center, next to the hardware store. I was able to secure a morning appointment. It was empty inside (maybe because of today's frigid temps, maybe because today was a holiday), and pretty small, sparsely furnished. However, I was greeted very cordially and brought back to Tanya, who had a station in the back. Tanya was nice, no frills, and did my simple manicure professionally and quickly. I went in asking for natural highlights on my strawberry blonde hair, but I was given white highlights that looked harsh and completely unnatural. When I expressed my concern, the stylist & owner simply said, "you asked for highlights." She did tone my hair afterward, which helped, but the result were still far from what I asked for. Then, my mom had an appointment at 9 a.m. for highlights and a haircut before she needed to be somewhere at noon. She brought in inspiration photos of warm blonde, but what she left with was orange roots and white-blonde ends. It looked nothing like what she requested. The salon owner told her "that's just highlights," and insisted nothing was wrong -- even though it was very uneven and orange. My mom paid $290 for highlights and a few lowlights, and the result was honestly something I could've done at home. She now has to go to another salon to have the color corrected. Overall, this was a really disappointing experience for both of us. For the price we paid, we expected professionalism, listening, and results that matched what we asked for not damage control the next day. read more

Terrible haircut. i have shoulder length thick hair. after trimming length off the ends the stylist/owner cut all the way around the base, from ear to ear with thinning shears. Now just a few weeks later the ends are thin and frayed. in my opinion this is done when the stylist does not know how to eliminate the bluntness correctly or doesn't want to take the time to cut it properly. Also, haircut was too expensive for a small, no frill local salon. No better than supercuts. The shampoo lady was subpar as well. read more

The lady hardly touched my scalp while washing and when applying the conditioner she put it all on the top part of my head, smoothed it once down the center and rinsed it off. I was so disappointed in the service my daughter and I received from manicurist, Alice. She was rude to us from the beginning, from the way she asked us to pick a color, to the end when she couldn't even say a simple "you're welcome" to my daughter saying thank you. I don't know what about us bothered her so much, but I can't help but feel that the color of our skin was darker than what she preferred to work with. She did a mediocre job on my daughter's nails. I usually go across the street for our nails, but they were booked today, so I thought we'd give this local business a try. Never again. read more

I have been a client of the Beauty Spot for over 20 years. I see Grace for all my facials. She is a professional, and knows what my skin care needs are. Over the years my skin has changed and has become very sensitive. Not many estheticians are up to the challenge when it comes to sensitive skin that may have allergies to certain products, but not Grace she gave me a wonderful moisturizing facial that looked and felt great. I have yet to find anyone that can match her abilities. Not only is she very kind but very trustworthy. The woman doing my hair seemed extremely in a hurry. She did not even put heat protectant or any product before blow drying my hair. And when she did blow dry it, it was done incredibly rushed and she did not take time to section my hair and properly blow dry it. I had to go home and fix my hair myself, which for a steep price of near $100, is insanely disappointing. To top it off, despite me showing her multiple reference photos of how I wanted my bangs, she did not cut them at all similar to the images, and just chopping them straight across, when I had wanted more so curtain bangs. No one was particularly rude, but there was just such an overwhelming lack of professionalism and care/attention to detail that I would absolutely not recommend this place, especially for the price. If you need a quick trim and you have nothing you need to look good for then it might do the job. However, if you want to leave feeling beautiful, like you were well taken care of, and got what you asked for, this is definitely not the place. read more

Where do I begin? I have been going to The Beauty Spot pretty much since it opened. It is by far the best salon/spa I have ever been to. Truly a place to go to be pampered. Margaret is the only person I trust for my facials. My skin is always beautiful and glowing after a visit with her. Marina is truly an artist for hair cut and color (she did my hair and hair for all of my bridesmaids for my wedding). The manicurists are perfectionists and my manicures and pedicures are always amazing. I got married last spring and the day before my wedding a group of us came for some pampering. We had manicures and pedicures and they let us set up strawberries, sweets and champagne. It was the perfect way to spend a few hours relaxing. I'm not sure what everyone is raving about. I've had better manicures for quite a bit less but I guess that's just what you find in this area. Really pretty shocking to find prices for services here higher than in the SF bay area. For the price, I expected to get a pretty awesome mani, but what I got was somewhat sloppy- polish outside the nail bed, half a nail totally skipped on the second coat, a massage that made me feel like she shouldn't have even bothered, and at the end she basically just got up and walked away. She didn't bother to tell me where the dryers were, much less grab my purse and keys and drop them off at the dryer for me so I didn't have to risk ruining the fresh polish. I've never had a mani in a place that didn't do that. So I gingerly grabbed my purse and keys and wandered in the direction she pointed, pulled out my own chair, turned on my own dryer, managed not to destroy the polish. I suppose it's possible that she was annoyed by the fact that I was a little late (GPS sent me to a different plaza) and was passive-aggressively taking it out on me, but that wouldn't earn the place any extra stars. Sometimes people are late. Deal with grace, or turn them away. On a positive note, the aesthetician was (otherwise) very nice and the interior was clean and comfortable. This spot in a small strip mall is a gem worth a visit. I will not get a mani or pedi anywhere else. They don't have a lot of room, but what's important to me is getting the best mani-pedi. One side is all about nails, the other side is all about hair, and spa services are downstairs. All the women working here are dedicated to their craft; no one leaves unless they get married, have a baby, move, or retire! They do take a little time to get to know you, so give it a minute. I have been going here for nails for over 15 years. Vaida's manicures last a full week, and she changes what base coat or topcoat she uses on me based on my nails (she can tell if I've been washing a lot of dishes). She brings her own polish if she sees a good toe color for me. She doesn't really massage feet (Tanya does), but if I want a foot massage, I go downstairs or to Joy Foot spa. The full hour is making my feet look good. I honestly get complimented about my nails by strangers all the time- and it's just Marshmallow! When Vaida is on vacation I'm totally happy to go to any of the other ladies, but if I leave town, I just go bare. No one else touches my nails. I used to go to Sine Qua Non or Gordon for cut and color, but then I tried here to save the travel, and that was it. Maryna and Selena are great- today a makeup artist at BlueMercury asked where I get my hair done. Selena has my color looking like a dream, and Gail does my mothers hair better than her own place in Naples. LOVE this place! I went to The Beauty Spot because it's located right near where I work. It was a total whim. When I walked in I was a little put off at the high price of the pedicure ($44, I think), but I was desperate so I went along with it. This might sound strange but what I liked about this place was that the lady working on my feet didn't try to engage me in conversation. Maybe that makes me anti-social but I was able to sit back and veg out while staring at their big screen TV. Best lunch hour ever! The best part? Now, one month later, my pedicure is STILL going strong. It's abso-freaking amazing. I was in town for a wedding and was excited for some pampering.The person I had (Alice) was grumpy (I could tell she was antsy to get out of there), skipped the massage portion of my pedicure, laid on my polish so thick that even after an hour+ of drying, it got smudged right away, counted her tips in front of me, etc etc. I emailed to complain and never heard back. Over all everyone was very nice. I went in for a hand applied air brush tan. When I got done it looked good, but I didn't double check that Natalie sprayed everywhere (my fault.) The inside of my calves were never sprayed. Very disappointed. The tan only lasted about 2 days even though I did everything on my end to take proper care of it. This place is fantastic. I come every few weeks to get my hair and nails done. Most males assume that a beauty salon, is solely for women. This place makes you feel right at home. My hair always comes out looking fantastic and my nails, though a bit more expensive than your run of the mill, $30 Mani Pedi, is 100X better. They last much longer and look way better. She has been at the Beauty Spot for more than 20 years. She's originally Russian, and a dentist by trade. Needless to say, she has great dexterity with all the tools she uses, is into sterilizing the foot bath thoroughly, and cares a lot about her finished product. She will leave your hands and feet looking amazing. She also makes great conversation, and loves talking about her successful children. My manicure didn't chip until a week after getting it done with hard use of my hands. The pedicure is still looking good two and a half weeks later. If Lucy is not available, my mom also recommends Elena. Elena has also been at The Beauty Spot for more than 20 years. read more

I've been going to the beauty spot for hair cuts and other services for a number of years. I've never gotten my hair colored, or highlighted only cut. I needed to get my hair highlighted with purple highlights for a charity work bet and decided to go to my regular hairdresser. The challenge is my hairdresser was not use to coloring my hair and also did not know how to deliver on purple highlights. What bothered me is she should have referred me to someone who was experienced with the technique. What made matters worse was when I asked her a simple question on why she had to bleach my entire head when I desired highlights she was outright rude to me and it was very embarrassing as I had two team members with me. In addition, my hair turned out a strawberry orange color, so she ended up adding in violet and a toner..net net, when I left my hair looked just like my original brown color and I now have to go someplace where they can deliver on the highlights desired. I'm going some place else permanently for haircuts as I was offended with the way I was spoken to. Which is unfortunate after all these years. read more

She is by far the most talented stylist I have ever been to, and I have incredibly thick hair, and trust NO ONE but her. However, I am sure it's a safe bet that all stylists are just as amazing as she is. Today I had my first facial and it was THE BEST facial experience I have ever had. I have been to several places for a facial and this one (by Margaret) was incredible. She did the best job cleaning my skin and she was careful, precise, and extremely knowledgeable. The thing I like best is that she didn't try to upsell me skin products... in fact she gave me several samples to take home with me! Also, one of the nicest things about the Beauty Spot is the staff. Beware of this place. Maya P is so rough with her hands and won't listen to what you want to do with your hair. She was working on a few different people and in such a rush which is probably why I ended up with coppery highlights, when I normally have blonde. She rudely shouted to an assistant, who was actually nice and gentle, to rinse my hair off obviously before my hair finished processing. Upon looking at the results, I was horrified. I told her I wasn't happy with the color and instead of her trying to fix it, she tried to convince me that I looked better with redder undertones, which actually ended up making me look like an old lady. We went back and forth and she wouldn't listen to me. I guess she didn't want to fix my hair cuz she was working on too many people and didn't have time, or maybe she didn't know how to fix it...I ended up leaving unhappy, paying over $200 for a color of hair I didn't like, and had to go to another salon to fix her mess. The prices they charge are higher than what they advertise on their website as another yelper (Emily G)?also noticed. I wouldn't recommend going here. Save your time and money and hair and go elsewhere! You'll be happy you did and that u didn't have to deal with Maya's bad attitude and horrible workmanship! read more

I went here the other week to get a spray tan. I know I was taking a risk because I had never been here before but the salon/spa had such great reviews I thought it was worth a shot since it was close to home. First, I arrived and had to wait about 15 min after my appt was supposed to start and then was brought into a room to get tanned. Nothing had been set up so after she had me undress I had to stand there another 5 min while the woman set up the room. When she was finally ready to tan me I noticed she was missing some spots and I had to ask her a few times to get some areas she missed on my legs. Then the kicker... The woman who was tanning me told me that she doesn't ever give spray tans because its not her job or what she was trained to do. She was an esthetician and the professional tanning lady was out of town that weekend. She told me not to worry cause she was giving it her best shot. I was absolutely appalled but half sprayed so I had to keep going. After my tan was done I was dripping wet and was handed a hair dryer to "dry" myself off. As I was doing so my tan was creasing from where I had to bend to dry myself. The hair dryer was also not drying my tan any so I finally decided to leave after about 20min of blow drying myself. The goodness in my heart didn't complain right away cause I wanted to give my tan a chance first. I left after paying the FULL professional price even though I wasn't tanned by a professional. That was the most appalling part to me. Would they allow a nail tech to cut someone's hair if they were low on staff? I would hope not but why is this acceptable? I was then forced to walk around with streaks down my legs for days from my horrible tan. I tried to call and speak with a manager about this and was hung up on twice. I wouldn't recommend this spa because of its fraudulent practices and lack of professionalism. read more

The Beauty Spot is terrific. Maya has been doing my hair for MANY years, and she does a phenomenal job. Sort of strange these bad reviews. Most people don't know their stylist's last name, so makes me think there is some sort of personal vendetta here. Maya has cut, colored, added extensions, used keratin, perms (many eons ago) and she has been nothing but professional, with professional results. She has many devoted clients who have been going to her for years. I have never heard her raise her voice and her prices are perfectly in line for the area. The best pedicures anywhere, if you tend to get a lot of dead calloused skin on your feet. These ladies are brave. No wimpy pumice stone--they cut away the dead skin.
