When my friend told me about this place, I thought he was exaggerating -- but he wasn't. The Beer Hog is absolutely massive. It's housed in what used to be an old elementary school, now converted into an incredible hangout spot. Inside, there's a full bar with an impressive rotating tap list displayed on a giant chalkboard, each beer listed with a number and description to make choosing easy. Beyond the drinks, there's plenty to do -- a small arcade, a virtual mini golf business in the back, outdoor seating, and yard games like cornhole and giant Connect Four. The vibe is relaxed, social, and full of energy without feeling crowded. I ordered two flights and loved the variety and quality across the board. Between the atmosphere, drinks, and entertainment, this is easily one of the best spots in the Birmingham area. A definite must-visit whether you're a local or just passing through. read more

Beer Hog has TONS of beer to choose from and for the none beer drinkers they have spirits as well. They have bar seating, high top tables and outside seating. Outside is dog friendly. They have a game room with pool tables and other bar games however everytime I go it seems to be rented out so haven't had the ability to play any. Also it is in Pelham 124. read more

I wish we had something similar off of our part of 280 down in Hoover near Chelsea. This place has a ton of beers and they aren't all IPA's which is awesome! They also have liquor and wine. The pizza is pretty good too! They have plenty of indoor seating and some outside as well. They also have a gaming room off to the side with a pool table. Pretty cool place. We met friends here after work one night. Lots of different kinds of beer. You can do a flight of 4 if that's what you would like. We were happy to see that they had two different kinds of cider boys. I got the cranberry razz. It was good but could have been a little colder. It just wasn't as refreshing as it had been at other places that have had it on draft. We got some beer cheese with pretzel bites too much it. The pretzel nuggets were really hot and so was the cheese. We all liked them. There's a game room in here. I didn't go in but saw they had some video games and a pool table. There was someone with a dog at the bar so I guess you can have dogs here. They also have better and cider to carry out so that's nice if you want a six pack to go. Staff were very nice. I've been here several times, and it's a nice place to meet up with friends. Most recently, I met up with some buddies for a reunion of sorts that we've done once or twice a year for a few years. Every other time, and this time, has been great. Wide selection of beer available, so everybody from your standard at-home beer type to the craft beer types can enjoy something. The staff is great, the general schema is banging out while standing up, more or less. The best thing on the menu is the garlic knots. Fluffy, doughy, buttery, garlicky goodness. You've had them before elsewhere, and Beer Hog, while not perfecting the basic, does a fine job with its variation. The pizza leave something to be desired...that being a noteworthy sauce, slightly-crackerish crust, and respectable cheese. The meat and/or other toppings (I had the full hog) were, well, meat and/or other toppings. Basically, this is the bar food version of a Tombstone Pizza. 2 stars: there's better pizza elsewhere. The service is 4 stars, the atmosphere 3.5 stars. I just can't go beyond what the food merits. That's what you get with me. read more

The new location, in an old elementary school that has been converted into an entertainment district, is fabulous! The space is so big- high ceilinged, wood and metal decor. There is a Game room with Pool, darts, and others, plus a lovely outdoor patio with ample seating, corn hole, and fans! Service is ok. The bartenders aren't unfriendly just not particularly warm when I've been. They do a good job tho! They have a ton of beers on tap, at least 60, and also offer wine and spirits. You can also purchase growlers and bottles and canned beer to take home! I love going in and getting flights, because their offerings are constantly changing and I like to sample as many as I can! They also offer a variety of food now- really good pizzas, salmon dip, pretzels, and even tamales! Everything is always delicious. Definitely check this local gem out! read more

Beer hoisting contests, Alabama and Auburn football on the big screen, 70 degree weather and six different types of German beers on draft. Beer Hog knows how to do it right! Went recently with another couple, and I was the only one of the 4 who had not been to the Beer Hog, and not at their new location in which they opened at the end of March. We were going for an early Saturday evening and got there around 5:15. One had a couple of the tap brews, another had a moscow mule (or at least it was served in the copper mug so I assume that was it--had been ordered before we sat down.) Another had a bourbon and coke, and I tried a mimosa cider. I had originally wanted a mimosa seltzer I had seen on a Facebook pic last week from Magic City Brewfest. We also got a pizza and some cheese sticks. Service started out fantastic, but about 7ish I don't know if it was because they were a little busy (but not terrible), it got harder to find someone. (At one point, we saw the person who had been serving us sitting down at a table with others for a while, so IDK if she was off or what.) The menu is super limited, and I hope they start to expand it, it was just thin crust pizza, cheese sticks, and I think soft pretzels. In looking back at FB, I see that they apparently have salads now, but I didn't see them on the menu. Definitely not enough food options for the amount of booze. They had live entertainment. The same guy was playing when the others had previously come and they really enjoyed him. We weren't as impressed with the musician this night, though. So since we weren't keen on it, we went ahead and moved into the other room, as playing pool had been on our list when we decided to try out BH. Had decent outdoor seating on a patio, but we skipped it because everything wet from rain. Beer- had a nice hazy IPA. Not much available if you love the dark stout beer category. Lousy food. Everything we had was prefab, toss together, and heat as far as we could tell. Not homemade crust. We only each ate one slice of pizza. I like this spot. It's located off 150 in a renovated school. It's very spacious. There's a very spacious bar area, outdoor patio, and an area with pool tables. The bar area was lined with TVs. There was a nice selection of craft beers. The menu consisted of appetizers (bar food), thin crust pizzas, and salads. There are 2 sizes for the pizzas and salads. The large saladS are LARGE! We have been coming here for years. We used to go to the previous location and continue to follow them at their new location in Pelham. I like how there is plenty of seating inside and outside. Plenty of parking. There is also plenty of beer to choose from! I like that you can also purchase beer in their store. They have a great area to play pool. Some nights they have trivia and a band. They have clean restrooms and nice staff. We had a great time during Halloween when we dressed up. Everyone that comes here for a drink is also super nice. Never really had an issue with not finding a table to sit at. For food we tend to order the barbecue chicken pizza or the buffalo chicken pizza. We definitely will be back with friends soon. It has been a kept secret but now word is out and can get crowded especially during college football season. The large screen tvs provide excellent entertainment. Food here is also good. I used to go to the old Beer Hog by Oak Mountain Lanes. The new venue is superior. Better lighting, more seating and now they have a room for bar games like pool and darts. Haven't tried the food options, I've seen others order pizza there and it looks good. Good beer always on rotation, I like that they feature a large amount of Alabama breweries. Staff is friendly and the new method of asking for service (flags) seems to be optimal when the place gets busy. read more

We've been coming to beer hog for years and it is always a comfortable, laid-back spot. Ever since moving to the new location we've seen dogs inside virtually every visit. Today is was raining. Tried calling ahead but the number listed was out of service, so I physically walked in and left my dog in the car with bf to ask a bartender if it was ok to have her and she said yes as long as she was on a leash. We come back in, bf goes to order beer, we pick a table away from ppl, and manager comes over and tells us the dog can't be there. I mentioned the bartender said it was ok, and got a kind of rude "I'm the manager" response back. Cancelled our order and went somewhere else. We don't mind at all if there's a no-dog policy (it's why I made multiple attempts to ask), but seems the staff isn't on the same page and manager could have been less of a douche about it. read more
