Mayawell is my favorite, favorite bar downtown. They have the most amazing craft cocktails. The ingredients are usually unexpected surprises that when combined, make the perfect drink. The bartenders are always so friendly and helpful, especially my favorite Rickey. I love Mayawell so much that I hosted my birthday there this year!! Came here to celebrate a friendaversary on a Wednesday during happy hour after grabbing dinner close by and had a great time overall! The happy hour special was $3 off menu margaritas. I got the mango marg and my friend had the spicy one. We found street parking easily and sat outside, which was nice and relaxed. However, after someone took our order and brought out our drinks, no one ever came back to check on us--not even to offer a second round. It wasn't busy, so that part felt a little disappointing. There are so many things to love about Mayawell! The bar is located on one of the main corners in the Avondale area, right near Pepper Place. The inside has lots of nice decor and lighting. They also have an outdoor patio and rooftop searing area, which is my fav. I love to watch the sunset with a cocktail in the evening. They do a good job of incorporating seasonal flavors and have good happy hour specials! The Mezon Catering food truck is also on the property and it is DELICIOUS! The street burrito is my favorite but don't sleep on the quesadillas or chips n queso They even serve bruch, which I highly recommend. The staff inside the bar and food truck are super helpful if you need recommendations and service is pretty quick even when it's busy. Mayawell is a sure fire late night or daytime (Saturday) fun! read more

I had passed Mayawell several times on my way to other places and finally decided to stop by last night. This is considered an agave tequila bar. They advertise a selection of 85 + agave spirits. They don't serve food, but the night we went the Mezcal food truck was there. I highly recommend their chicken burrito. Mayawell has an extensive cocktail menu with 11 signature cocktails and 11 classic cocktails. They also serve wine and cans or bottles of beer. From the outside, it looks like a small place, but there is plenty of seating inside and in the back. I loved the intimate nooks and crannies that were all around. There is even a small rooftop seating area. The only drawback is that they need a bigger bar. When we visited there were lots of people working behind the bar, but it still took a long time to get drinks. They offer table service, which is great, but the time between ordering and receiving your drink is a lot. Hopefully, they can work this out. Overall this is a good place. The vibe is great, and the drinks are good. They just need a bigger bar area. read more

Only took off one star because space/seating we saw inside was a bit limited for our group of 6-had it of been a busy evening we likely wouldn't have been able to stay long and be seated. They did appear to have an upstairs, so this may not be the case for busier nights. Otherwise this is a great cozy place to have some fun with fantastic staff. read more

This place is eye opening. It is definitely a rave about in Birmingham. They have plenty of staff to take care of their customers. The seating is great too. Mayawell has several areas that can be reserved for medium to large groups. Be sure to call ahead. There are plenty of drinking options on the menu. The bar changes the menu out seasonally, I found out from our waitress. I like a place that doesn't carry the same boring menu 12 months in a row. They are pricey so be aware. Lastly there are not a lot of food options around., however a Taco Truck is on site for your munchie needs. read more

The tequila + mezcal selection is one of the best in the city, and the bartenders are knowledgeable. We've been taught a thing or two from our fave bartender there, Deangelo. There's a taco truck set up on the side of the building and has always been open when I've popped in. I stick with tacos, but there are tots, a burger, etc. The inside is dark, vibey, and fun. I've had the opportunity to visit a few times and each time I came away a little more impressed with the venue. The bar is definitely a vibe, the owner or manager was working by himself( sorry Mr buff bartender my memory is bad)and was on top of everything. My husband is as picky of a drinker as there is but the guy made him a tequila drink that he LOVED! I had a spicy margarita and then he made me a custom tequila drink with butterfly pea syrup. I wish I had taken pictures of them but was too excited to try them. My husband got a drink with artichoke and tequila, he was suspect about it at first but had 2 of em. Mayawell Bar is a cute and cozy new addition to the Lakeview district. They are an Agave Spirits Bar, which may sound a little intimidating at first. However, with both classics like margaritas and house specials that are a bit more eccentric, this place has something for everyone. We tried the Berry Berry drink and the Carajillo. Both drinks were tasty, but the Carajillo was amazing! It was not warm, but tasted like a slightly spiked hot cocoa. It has kahlua whipped cream on top. The thing that stands out to me the most, however, is the atmosphere here- think comfy seating and warm, dimmer lighting that makes the space feel more like a friend's trendy apartment than a lounge. Noise level is just right so you can easily carry a conversation without shouting. They have a pretty back patio area. Unfortunately I visited on a cold and rainy day but I think it would be great to sit outside during the warmer months. Came on a Tuesday and they had a taco truck in the back - not sure if they do this every week. Knocking a star off for the food. Unfortunately the veggie quesadilla was just okay...very greasy.
