Beer'd Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Stonington, Connecticut in November 2012. It was founded by husband and wife Aaron Simoncini and Precious Putnam. After enrolling in a class entitled "Beers of the World" in college, Simoncini became very interested in craft beer and soon began homebrewing. It was during this time that he gained the nickname "Beer'd". Eventually with his now-wife Putnam, Simoncini set out to open his own brewery. The couple set up shop at the Velvet Mill in Stonington. The historic building was originally home to the American Velvet Company, which operated from 1892 to 1996. Today it is a multipurpose building that is home to a thriving community of small businesses and artist studios. When Beer'd originally opened in the mill, they had just a 100-barrel system. The brewery quickly became notable for their small-batch high quality IPAs. In 2018, Beer'd opened a secondary facility at the Airport Business Park in Groton. This new 12,000-sq-ft space expanded their production capacity to 6,000 barrels. An adjoining 60-seat taproom (dubbed "Beer'd Brewing @ The Silo") opened at the Groton facility in January 2020. To differentiate the two taprooms, the original location in Stonington is now often referred to as "Beer'd Brewing @ The Mill". I first visited Beer'd in 2013 (when they were just one of a small handful of breweries in Connecticut), and I've been a huge fan of their beer ever since. They are one of my favorite Connecticut breweries and I have visited them multiple times; they were even a stop on my brewery bus tour bachelor party. I also must point out that Aaron and Precious are lovely people. I recently stopped there while I was in the area. It had been a while since my last visit and there were a few changes. In addition to the original taproom, Beer'd has set up an indoor beer garden in the center of the Velvet Mill. Patrons can enjoy some beer paired with food from one of the mill's many food vendors. Beer'd also set up a designated "Dog Den" for patrons to enjoy a beer if they have furry friends. During this visit, I enjoyed a taster flight that featured "8 Days A Week" (Pale Ale), "Stunner For the Win" (New England IPA), "An Unexpected Upgrade" (Double IPA), and "Heavy Weight-Of-Sound" (Triple IPA). So glad we stopped in here this afternoon! We grabbed a table in the Beer'd Garden. We had a great server, wish we caught his name. I took his recommendations and tried 2 New England IPA's which are hazy by nature - my favorite kind. Unfortunately I don't recall the names, one was Karate something - with hints of pineapple, legit one of the best hazy ipa's I've had. My fiancé had the witbier which is always her go to - belgian blue moon type beer with a bit more of a kick. Their logo/brand is top notch. Having been to many breweries, their logo is really one of the best. We bought a tank for my fiancé and a pint glass for me to add to our collection. Unfortunately there weren't a ton of t-shirts (maybe covid related) because I would have gotten another one for myself - wish they'd just focus on that awesome "beard" logo because their color combos were great. Side note - during Covid times, you must purchase food with your drinks and the food doesn't compare to the beer! Not their rules, but oh well! Come have some beers! read more

The beers did not disappoint: - I had a 7% NEIPA called something about "da juice", which was balanced and flavorful - also Dogs and Boats, which was a 9% double IPA that started a little malty and had a bitter hoppy finish They had a nice selection of other styles too, but that is all I tried. Our server wasn't that helpful in talking about the beers, nor was the menu in describing them...wasn't even clear which had adjuncts. It was pretty hot where we were seated, which was in the middle of an old warehouse seeming facility. If there was other seating I wasn't aware of it, and not even sure where the bar was--we ordered from a waitress. Bottom line, great beer, but just an OK brewery experience. read more

"Dog Friendly" is an absolute joke. They have a 10' x 10' corner in the hallway for you to sit.

Chill brewery in a random indoor flea market-eske spot. Love the logo and the beer titles and absolutely love the vibes. It gets massively hot in the summer so prepare to roast and drink a chilled one. Beer was ok, nothing that really stood out to me. We were in the area and came by this place with some of our friends. Would I go back and go out of my way to it? Probably not. Only because nothing really stood out with the beers. Food wise, you can order in any of the little restaurants around and they will come bring it in free of charge. That's definitely a plus! Drafts to go available for purchase. We wanted to a visit a brewery while in the area and we love the logo so we had to stop by. We sat inside and tables were six feet apart and the wait staff were all wearing masks and payment was no contact (you cash yourself out at a booth). Beer'd is one of my favorite breweries in Connecticut, so I was pretty excited to visit. It's located in The Velvet Mill, and because of the slightly confusing signage in the building, it's a little bit of an adventure to find it! Anyway, once we found it, it was very adorable space, there are a number of tables and other types of bar seating. At the time of our visit, they were dog friendly, I always suggest calling/checking before you go, as regulations/enforcement change. Anyway, they have plenty of great beer on tap, no food, but they encourage you to bring your own, or order delivery from the nearby pizza place. They also have cans to go, and we filled up our cooler for the trip home, as there's no better place to pick up beer than at the source. I have been a fan of their beers for several years but today was my first visit to their brewery. It's located in a super cool old industrial building with a lot of other fun and neat shops. Most were closed when we arrived on Friday afternoon so we headed straight for the brewery. I loved the super chill vibe of the space and the really friendly guys and gals behind the counter.. Chatting with patrons who were there to buy a piece t, and a growler or cans. Beer'd is known for their consistent and delicious DIPAs and trying g them from the source was worth the drive. The tap room does not sell flights BUT the gals behind the bar were more then willing to serve me a taster of each beer on tap before I made my choice. Let me start by saying I'm not a beer guy. I can tell stout from the lighter stuff but far be it from me to ramble on about the quality of an IPA. That said I really like Beer'd. Great ambiance, great beer. I don't know what it is but I like how it tastes! With at least three artisanal breweries in the area, I think Beer'd is the most creative and edgy. The Mystic - Westerly corridor is a great place to explore for beer (and wine for that matter) and Beer'd is worth a visit. read more

We love to seek out the smaller breweries for tastings and growler fills. I noticed another customer with a beer'd growler at Cottrell brewing company, and made a mental note to give them a try. Located in the eclectic and delightfully diverse old velvet mill, beer'd is the obvious cornerstone of what keeps this emporium alive. The tasting room is funky in a good way, with a laid back vibe and friendly staff. We were able to taste a ton of their brews, I fell in love with 8 days a week, and my husband really liked their Already Taken ipa, and Hobbit Juice dipa. We were in luck, as they turned over two kegs in the 40 min we were there and allowed us to try those as well which was a great treat. We left with some growler fills, which was done efficiently and competitively priced for the quality of the product. First visit today when we were in the Mystic area. First, the location is hard to find. It is actually in an old mill that has been converted into a variety of shops. You have to go in the mall to find it. Second, seating is limited and there is no outdoor seating. Third, the prices were quite high. My flight of beer was $18! My husband ordered a stout and it was $9. Considering the atmosphere, it was not worth the money. Lastly, if you need to use the bathroom it is outside of the brewery down the hall in the "mall". What an awesome place to go for a beer and hangout. I will say it was super hard to find the building. You have to go in a big mill building and the brewery entrance is through there. They offer tastings of their beers on one side of the counter and have can purchases on the other. The place is really cute with flowers on each table and lights across the ceiling. You really can't go wrong here. I stopped here with a friend on our way to the casino (I had wanted to visit for a while, but never had an excuse to travel that far). One of my favorite breweries in CT!!! My boyfriend and I visited on a Sunday afternoon. A good size crowd but didn't feel overwhelmed or crowded. Love the atmosphere. The employees are super friendly and helpful in making recommendations. I tried the cider which was just the right amount of sweet. Then one of the employees gave us the suggestion to try One Thing Led to Another along with a sample! My favorite IPA so far!! Oh yes, this is my type of place. Inventory is heavily biased towards strong, hoppy brews, which happen to be my go-tos! I was incredibly impressed by their quantity and variety of options, based on the fact that they're a craft brewery. They are even canning their beers, which is so great. I ended up bringing a 4-pack home with me: Dogs & Boats. Sadly, I wasn't there for growler fills, but the 4-packs were a great consolation prize! Atmosphere is friendly and open - housed in the back of a warehouse-type space. We flew to make it there before they closed at 8 on Thursday and they were super sweet about letting us hang, even as they closed and cleaned up (Yelp has to update- these guys are open now on Thursdays from 6-8pm for tastings, pints, and can sales!). Loved the music that was playing in the background and the overall vibe. Their merchandise is also fantastic! I scooped up a unique purple v-neck and can't wait for them to restock their racer-back tees for the ladies! If you're ever in the area, please stop by! I will be making the drive again to go there. I don't know why the others say this place is hard to find. I easily found it. I'm all for supporting local craft beers and recently while driving in this neck of the woods, I made a quick stop at the Beer'd brewery. While there, I passed on their taste tasting (I prefer not to drink when driving) but I did manage to pick up a growler of their Whisker'd Wit beer. I wanted to like my purchase because I'm a big fan of wit beers, but to be honest, I didn't like their version. It tastes more like Ommegang Wit than Blue Moon or Hoegaarden. The head on my beer lasted at most 3 seconds and I couldn't taste any fruit or orange flavor. Unfortunately I did taste an almost charcoal-like aftertaste that lingered slightly in my mouth after every sip. I'm still hopeful about their other beers and look forward to trying them in the future. By the way, the old factory that houses the brewery is really cool. This place churns out some of the best IPA I've ever tasted. They are easily on the same playing field, if not the same base as Treehouse and Trillium. I mean, I've had a lot of IPAs in my day from some of the country's most reputable brewers, and this place is right up there. They are sort of tucked away in this large brick indoor mall of sorts. Tiny little bar too, but just enough room to sit down and sample some beers, buy some cool merchandise, and of course, take home some cans & growlers. Overall, this is just a super cool brewery situated in an amazing little town right by the water. Just a great vibe in the area. As frequent brewery visitors, Beer'd ranks high! We loved the casual and fun atmosphere, and the friendly service. There was plenty of room to stand or sit, with table games available to play, which was really fun! My husband was able to sample each of the beers, for free, which is beginning to be a dying trend at breweries. From his samples, he was able to make the selections to fill the growlers he brought, and then to have a couple while we hung-out too. My husband's favorite brews were Frank & Berry and Dogs & Boats. Overall he said the beer was outstanding. I liked that the brewery provided cheese and crackers, and also had pretzels and pickles for sale (to go or to eat there). Nice touch! Being able to bring your own growlers is a GREAT idea, and makes it so more money can be spent on actual beer, than having to buy new growlers too. Although Beer'ds growlers and merchandise is pretty cool! We were introduced to Beer'd through the RI Brewfest in January! They made quite an impression and we were happy to travel to CT to check them out. read more
