The wine is absolutely great. Even though most of the grapes are grown in California and then fermented here in Connecticut. They still have their own vineyard on property. The ladies that are serving on the line absolutely know their stuff fantastic crazy They are very knowledgeable and friendly. You cannot eat the view. Even when things aren't perfectly green. It is a true farmhouse failure with a stone wall. Adirondack chairs and tables on the upper patio overlook the most scenic view imaginable. Our favorite actually was the table wine white blend. Even a couple bottles down it was still as good as the first step! We also tried the $20 flight, which was yummy. But definitely don't overlook the white table line! When I visit CT, this winery is a must. From its beauty, to the delicious wine, and the nice people in the tasting room. Also, u can bring your own snacks, which is great, so we packed our own, had a flight, then a few glasses while we were there. Flights are $20 for 4, the pinot & rosé are by far my favorites. They were having an event so it gets pretty crowded quickly. A gem. I purchased the rosé to bring home. read more

Tip: Go past the first parking sign near the tent and park closer to the big building to avoid walking a quarter mile back and forth. Tip: The entrance is at the big building - walk up the stairs and take the door on the right. We've been hitting a number of wineries recently, and I thought we should stop and and see what Jonathan Edwards Winery had to offer. They offered a 5 wine pour for $20 per person, plus tax. They were reasonable pours. No crackers are provided, so if you need something, they do have some you can buy. Seating is both indoors and outside. The person distributing the wines knew her products and provided a good introduction. She let us take the tasting menu with us, so we knew what we were drinking. You finish the glass in the middle, and then just go in sequence with the other wines, pouring them into the glass to try out. read more

3/29/23, We stopped in the Beautiful Jonathan Edwards Winery. Upon driving up the entrance hill, you'll see a "Wine sign". Specifically: A wine bottle and wine glass with a directional arrow. As you walk up to the winery, you'll notice a beautiful wrought iron grape railing. The inside of the winery is very attractive. The winery has inside and outside table seating. We sat outdoors overlooking beautiful stonewalls and vineyards. We shared a wine flight: 3 whites and 2 reds. We enjoyed the overall quality of all the wines. The flight was about $20. Our favs were the Napa Chardonnay and the Napa Merlot. Cheese and some prosciutto were for sale. Our server Melanie mentioned that the winery would start charging for plastic utensils. (Really?) Overall customer service was just fair. That's why I took one star off. However, I would stop back in the future. PS: We'll be sure to bring plastic utensils for our next visit. :D read more

We love this place, especially seeing concerts here (G Love & Matisyahu). We also love just sitting on the porch and enjoying the outdoors.

My partner and I stopped by after a gorgeous day of tulip picking. We did a lovely tasting of 5 different wines (3 whites and 2 reds) and ended up getting a bottle of their pinot gris! The person helping us was amazing. She was so knowledgeable and kind. We were even able to purchase yummy cheeses and meats to enjoy with our wine! The area is stunning. I recently came here with my fiancé on a Thursday afternoon. We both did a wine tasting - none of the wines really impressed me, but I did like the Pinot Grigio the most. The weather was nice so we sat outside and enjoyed the scenery. I also enjoyed seeing the barrel room inside before leaving. I did notice some snacks available for purchase, but would suggest bringing your own. Overall, it's a nice enough winery to enjoy an afternoon with good company. read more

We visited during the week before Thanksgiving to try the wine and enjoy a day off. Tours and tastings are not available during COVID however The tasting room is open for purchasing wine. We were provided with a nice welcome and introduction to how Jonathan makes his wine using CA and #CTgrown grapes. We tried a bottle of Chardonnay which was tasty. What a gem in eastern Connecticut! This vineyard was recommended to me by a co-worker and we are so happy we listened! It was great! Due to Covid, they aren't having typical tastings, but we were able to go into the tasting room and try a couple of wines before buying. It was a gloomy and rainy day, but the sunny and friendly staff brightened the experience. We tried some whites and some reds and ended up loving the Napa cab. It happened to be $58 A bottle but it was lovely so we stayed and had a glass. We were told that the grapes come from a few different fields including the ones on the property. Well worth it to go by, and I'd recommend going in late spring or early summer when the vines are blooming. read more

Came on a Friday right around noon and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too busy. We were able to walk right up to the bar and get a tasting. For $15 you get to try 7 kinds of wine (4 white and 3 reds). They just released a rose which they said was really popular and they let us try. I'm usually red wine drinker but liked the whites here better. However, we didn't but any wine since none of them really blew us away. They have a daily free tour at 12 which I definitely recommend! My bf and I ended up being the only ones that wanted to do it so we essentially got a private tour. We got to see the vineyards and then got brought to their barrel room. Since we were a small group the tour guide actually let us try some of the wine straight from the barrel!! Overall a great experience with really good customer service. Made it to Jonathan Edwards and it is one of the finest vineyard in CT. We got there early in the day for the tasting just to beat the crowd, based on the feedback from friends and online reviews, we wanted to ensure we enjoyed and were not rushed. It is true that the place was full in now time. They have sufficient seating in the front, the back deck, inside and only out in the open. We had a great day here and my favorite is the Cabernet. Its kind of in the middle of nowhere but there is plenty of space to spread out outside. They have multiple seating areas; indoor and outdoor. I stopped by here with a friend for a tasting. Unfortunately they are not doing tastings at this time, however they will let you sample the wine before you buy it. We ended up getting a bottle of the rose. It was very good, not too sweet and more on the dry side. We were able to get a table outside under the umbrella. We brought snacks and a light lunch. The only thing that was annoying was the amount of flies around us while we had the food out. Winery closed at 4 pm for a wedding. read more

I reached out for a refund since my girlfriends and I bought a dozen tickets between us to meet there for a concert with our kids. (this policy is new, I have been there with kids previously) I was told no cancellations were allowed (also no mention of this policy on their website) because the food was already purchased. Zero sense of hospitality or any kindness, just crude, could not have cared less that we spend thousands on these tickets and were not going, just okay well you should have known. First I want to say that Jonathan Edwards is beautiful. The outside path through the vineyard is amazing. Now, on the weekend on Nov 1st my wife and I had our wedding in Mystic. The weather was all over the place from dangerous winds to very annoying on and off rain. The day of our wedding was perfect, however. The day after we planned a trip to Clydes Cider Mill and Jonathan Edwards because we wanted to show people just how well CT does fall. Yes, we arrived in a bus and it may have been intimidating for the staff, but that's no excuse for the behavior I will highlight below. We carefully read both websites to make sure we didn't need reservations--in which both websites said we didn't (please see screenshot). We weren't sure how many of our guests would come due to the open bar at our wedding, weather, flights etc. We all purchased snacks and such at Clydes and arrived at Jonathan Edwards around 1130, in which we were met at the door by a lady who wanted to speak with who was in charge. As our guests made their way inside they were astonished to hear how patronizing and demeaning the lady was speaking to us. At one point when I tried to explain to her what I read on the website and that we were fully aware of limited wine tasting and that we came prepared to buy bottles, she cut me off and demanded to know how many people we had. I then let my wife speak to her because I just could not believe it. Going forward our guests made their way outside and we ordered a case of wine, in addition to a plethora of other bottles purchased from guests that arrived in their own vehicles. When other guests who purchased bottles of wine outside from the case asked for glasses, they were told "we already gave you guys glasses." When guests asked about the "complimentary tour" per the website, they were told no. We spent close to 1k between us all and would have easily spent more had we felt comfortable approaching the staff. While ordering our case outside on the patio the same lady who "greeted us" at the door shouted at my wife that "we can't split credit cards!" In which we responded that we had no intention on splitting cards at all and that we could pay cash if needed--what an assumption! It was embarrassing and I really felt like we weren't welcomed at all. We rented a school bus because we figured if we all drove our individual cars we would take up a lot of parking space, but if we did and we all arrived at various times would that have been any different? It was the best day of the week as far as weather, I'm not sure how you wouldn't expect or prepare for large crowds on a Saturday afternoon. I made sure we didn't occupy all of the space on the patio, I placed all of our dirty glasses and empty bottles back into the cardboard case because I felt obligated to show the lady that we didn't come to make things hard or complicated for them. I was asked several times by other guests why I was cleaning up on my wedding weekend...it was horrible. The entire experience made me rethink my return. I was born and raised in CT, I have a lot of friends and family in CT and RI that have said they will not return to Jonathan Edwards. We had people from Colorado (my in laws),CA, Hawaii, Tonga, GA and Mozambique come to the winery. Some of who work in the wine, beer and service industry. We hope this doesn't happen to anyone else, we really wanted to just enjoy ourselves. Thank you. read more

Loved it! I have never been to a wine tasting where I legit enjoyed every single option on the tasting list. I must say the Cabernet (with the peppery finish) and the Chardonnay ( with hints of vanilla) were my two faves. They sell bottles locally and in most large wine distributors in CT. The staff were super helpful and knowledgeable about the wines. If Melanie (I think that's her name) is there, she will definitely treat you right. Tastings are $15/pp. be sure to check out the property and take some photos. I posted a few of mine here. I'd definitely return and would love to host a party here. I feel "a-ok" is a fair way to describe Jonathan Edwards Winery. Perhaps it's because I don't live in that area of Connecticut, but to me it feels a little cramped with everyone clustering in one small space around the house, and huge open fields in front. I would like to see on of their special events, but the one time I tried, cars were backed up and there was rumor of a shuttle bus. I suppose that may say more than anything! read more

First and foremost, the staff always sucks in plain English. I feel as though they all hate what they are doing and want to get you in and out as quickly as possible and they have the least friendly personalities out of ALL of the vineyards we go to. Wine Stop #3 in during our first excursion on the 2014 CT Wine Trail and my favorite stop of the day. From the grounds, to the tasting room to the wines I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The tasting room was bustling by the time we arrived mid afternoon on July 4th weekend but we were quickly assisted by a peach of a server whose name escapes me at the moment. Had a lovely time doing a classic tasting - which was $12 and encompassed trying 7 of their wines. Their wine production consists of grapes grown both on "the estate" as well as in California. We were told however that the family leases land in Napa and is very involved with the grapes grown out there, meaning from what I could tell they don't just by grapes stamped "Napa". That being said - my favorites were the Sauvignon Blanc (2012 Napa), Merlot (2011 Napa), and the Zinfandel (2012 Lodi). I enjoyed the Zin so much a bottle made it's way back to my car for future enjoyment in the comfort of my home. Oh and if you have the opportunity - make sure you try their dessert wine DARK - rich and decadent combo of petite syrah and brandy - it's liquid gold in a glass and potent to boot! As with many of the other wineries we visited on along the shore, Jonathan Edwards does a large wedding business so make sure you check their tasting hours before you come. We were told that on many Saturday's during the summer months they close at 4:30 to accommodate weddings. read more

We visited this winery with my sister-in-law while in town visiting family. It is a beautiful location, and the snow around the massive, white barn-turned-winery just added to its charm. Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge fan of their wines; our favorite was the Zinfandel and then probably the Pinot Grigio (which I was very surprised by), but everything else had an aftertaste that wasn't very pleasant. The first person who served us also didn't seem happy to be there, so the experience started off a little shaky. Thankfully another girl (I'm sorry I forget both names) joined in and made it much more enjoyable. It was great to experience once and look out over the vines with the snow, but we won't be back anytime soon! read more

The grounds are absolutely beautiful! Compared to other wineries on this side of the state, this one definitely is the most impressive looks wise. You can tell that they genuinely take care of the facility. Even on a busy Saturday there was still plenty of room to sit and enjoy the view. What I didn't love was their customer service or wine. We paid $15 for a tasting, which for a tasting is pretty absurd. They specialize in dry wines which wasn't my favorite and you have no options of which wines you want to try. The woman pouring our wine was so so rude to us. I get that it was busy, but she literally just poured them, didn't say anything about them and went off to talk to other people. My friend brought me here when I was visiting the area from out of town. I was not disappointed! This winery is so cute. It's currently decorated for Christmas and it was so charming. We started with a wine tasting at the bar. The woman that gave us our posting was so lovely, kind, and attentive. Afterwards we bought a glass of wine each and sat outside the processing room and hung out. I can imagine during the summer it would be great to sit outside and check out the amazing views. I think they should work in more food and snacks that they have available and also some chairs for the bar. I get the idea of standing so the tastings keep moving, but standing in heels for 40 minutes during our tasting got tiring. I also would've loved to go outside in the chilly weather and check out the view with my wine but they don't offer heaters or anything. Something else to consider. Worth the drive from anywhere in CT, grab a glass and walk around the grounds, they have picnic tables under a few trees with plenty of shade if you want to have a picnic too. $8 for a glass, $15 for a tasting, and I ended up getting a bottle of Merlot for $38, which was pricey but delish nonetheless. read more

We came here as our start to a day of wine tasting to get a feel for what CT's grapes have to offer. I fell in love with Jonathan Edward's on tap table white that was being poured at a local brewery, and made a point of bookmarking the winery to give it a try. Our arrival was perfectly timed to get there as they were opening so that we didn't have to fight the crowds to try the wines. I thought that if their table wine was so good, the rest of their wines HAD to be equally as good or better. Unfortunately, this assumption was wrong. The lady managing our tasting was distracted, and admitted to us she had only been there for a short time, and furthermore didn't really know about the wines other than what the schpeal she was told to recite to the customers. I told her that we came to the taasting room because I was so fond of the table wine, to which she grimaced at me and condescendingly said they didn't taste that at the winery. We went through the tasting menu, and nothing really stood out as something I very much enjoyed or wanted to drink a whole glass of. Despite many of the grapes coming from California, it really lacked the California palate or the excitement. The general lack of knowledge or enthusiasm from the attendant added to this downward trajectory of the experience, and left me wanting to just move on to the next tasting. Grounds are beautiful but the location is pretty far away from everything else, which makes the trip out of the way for not really anything special. I will probably order the JE table white again if I see it on a menu, but I would not do another tasting, or order any of their other wines by the glass if given the opportunity. read more

Vineyard What can I say, I'm a sucker for visiting vineyards. Of the two in the area, this one was touted as being the better bet so we tried it. Not bad - the grounds are nice, they do the usual vineyard stuff- parties on the lawn etc. and judging from the photos they have around, they are well attended. The wines are good but not outstanding. The Zinfandel and a chardonnay were both good but a little pricey Tiny gift shop. read more

Visited recently with my wife to try some local wines. The winery does have a nice location and is situated in a cool old barn. The wines unfortunately are mostly made with California grapes brought in and made into wine here. So it's not really local grapes, but they do have one or two varieties grown on-site. The way they have the wine tasting experience set up is really pretty poor. There's no greeter, nothing to indicate how it works other than to go up to one of the less than friendly people who work there and ask. Not that it's easy to identify staff, as no one was wearing anything that identified themselves as a staff member. We stood at the bar outside and eventually a charmless bartender explained how that tasting works. We got the 3 wine tasting, none of which were very good. Our wine tender or whatever you call someone who does this was too busy running into the barn to make change for payments on wine, than to tell us anything about the pours she gave us. Suggestions for the winery - Have a hostess station where people go to purchase their tastings and bottles. Give visitors a ticket or something that they can give to the bartender so they don't have to run back and forth for dozens of transactions and can instead focus on the wine. Hire people who have some customer service skills. A smile or two wouldn't actually kill them. Give your staff easily identifiable t-shirts so they stand apart from customers. All in all it was sort of sloppy and the wines were disappointing. read more
