The overall consensus was that the food is very greasy, the weight time is very long, and the service was horrible. Some friends and I went on a Saturday night. The restaurant was empty apart from a guys at the bar saying h*m*phobic stuff all night. I got a spicy margarita and it was very poorly made, I do not suggest the jalapeño tequila. I had my margarita remade into mango and it was much better the second time but still very small. The food took forever to come out in an empty restaurant. The service on every level is astronomically slow. I am gluten free. The pizza is an average gluten free pizza. The toppings were inconsistent and overall it was just ok. Why was this place empty on a Saturday evening?!? We stopped in to grab a drink and eat and we were really surprised! Our waitress was bubbly and helpful. The bartender made a perfect old fashioned. We got the fish tacos, shrimp tacos, two chicken club sandwiches, beer cheese soup, and Cajun tots. Everything was delicious and came out fresh and in good time. The Cajun tots were probably the best (especially dipped with mayo and honey mustard). I was really nervous because I looked at the yelp reviews after ordering and saw bad things about the chicken sandwich, so I was pleasantly surprised when my fiancé and I both thought ours were delicious. Our server was super friendly. The right level of caring about our visit, but not being overbearing. They had a many football games playing and good music on too. The environment is so relaxed and it's a very pretty building. We liked that we could watch the games and still hear each other talking, whereas other sports bars, it's so loud you can't even really hear anyone you're talking with. The bathroom was super clean and so were our tables. There was also a wide variety of seating. Four of us met for dinner on a Tuesday night. The new concept of online ordering is OK, but there are a few things that are confusing. You have to get your own utensils, napkins, to-go containers, and literally anything else you want. Water? Not sure. No one offered to bring any. So...we sat down and placed our orders; we decided it was most efficient to order food and drinks at the same time. The drinks came out pretty quickly, and the food followed pretty shortly thereafter. Interestingly, the drinks were slightly different with each subsequent round. The food was a mixed bag. My Philly Chesesteak was just not good. The meat had a slight burned flavor, and as you can see from the pic, the sandwich was a bit of a mess. The sweet poatato fry side was moderately warm and a fairly small $3.50 serving. My wife's Chicken Avocado sandwich was a plump and pretty tasty piece of chicken. The other two diners at our table got burgers, and said they were OK. They also each got fries that were hot and a much larger serving than mine. Oddly inconsistent. So, we had a few drinks and hung out. At least 3 different 'runners' brought food to our table. When we went to check out on Toast, we noticed there was a 3.5% credit card charge. Since you have to set up a credit card to order I guess that is pretty much a mandatory fee. When you go to close your bill they suggest a tip starting at 18%. I'm a pretty good tipper, but wasn't sure if that was a good starting point for me having to do some of the work, and for no one server responsible for our service. So, decent drinks, mediocre food, and different service, with a bit of a surprise fee at the end. Not sure what to think, but none of us were wowed enough to want to return. read more

The new renovation are gorgeous! And while I am understanding of hiccups that happen during a visit when they have just reopened, I am just not in love with the self-serve concept. I like asking my bartender about the tap beers and wait staff about the menu items. But instead, they have menu and ordering through an app. Servers did a drop and go when they brought drinks and food, leaving us clueless that we were supposed to get our own plates, silverware, napkins etc. and never coming back to check in on how things were. This app ordering probably works great when you are in a group so the staff dont have to go through the hassle of splitting checks but when I go out I enjoy the service as part of my experience. As for the food. We order nacho, onion rings and pizza. Pizza and onion rings were ok but the nachos were a miss with mostly cheese, some meat and were very greasy. One plus to the ordering through the app, you know how much you are spending as the night goes on (no mystery how much a beer or cocktail will cost and you know exactly how much you've had to drink). read more

My fiancé just brought home takeout for me. I ordered a Nashville hot and the piece of "chicken" was so small you couldn't see the edges when holding up the sandwich. When I went to take a bite the "chicken" was so hard I could not bite through. I then tore it apart and the entire thing was over cooked and mostly breading that was very hard. I ate some of the bun and then threw it in the trash. The pickles were good though. I'm only giving one star because the Brussels sprouts were good. read more

Very interesting concept. You seat yourself and scan a QR code to order and pay. You pick up your utensils soda and water from a station. They do bring out your food when it is ready. It mostly has tall/bar height tables however they do have just a few normal height tables. We were there on trivia night and it appears they draw a decent crowd to play. I believe it doesn't cost to play and it is all done by your phone. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place. There is a game room in the back and people seam to like the game room. Overall it was interesting. The food wasn't bad and actually it was pretty good! read more

Came here to use our Brew Pub Beer Pass for a free drink, which ended up being just $5.00 off a pint of any beer of your choice and try out their food. Ordered the garlic parmesean wings, which were just okay. There wasn't much sauce on the wings and the flavor just wasn't there. The blue cheese dressing was very good, full of chunks of cheese and green onion. The ranch was pretty watered down and just lacking in flavor. I ordered the crab Rangoon burger and it was an absolute hit. The cream cheese with garlic and sweet Thai chili sauce... MmmMmm... just order it. You can thank me later! Our waitress was friendly, but lacked attentiveness to us as customers and would rather flirt with the table of 4 marines than bring us silverware and napkins until 10 minutes after our food had been brought to the table. We've come to The Beerhouse multiple times before they started their remodel. I love having such an establishment so close to our home, in an area without many sit down restaurants. I'll admit I was getting worried because how long the remodel was taking and was genuinely afraid they just wouldn't reopen or if they did, they would struggle to get business again. Boy was I wrong! They've only been reopened a few weeks (two?) and every time I drive by they are busy! My husband and I decided to give them a try on a Wednesday evening, we pulled in and couldn't believe how full their parking lot was! Luckily their layout and space is bigger than it appears and there were still many open tables for us. The new bar area is much bigger than I remember it being before and the finishes/decor got an upgrade. There are still multiple TVs in the main dinning area and a huge screen in the bar area - making it a perfect place to watch March Madness (or any other sports). They also have a sizable back room that is quieter and I image could be rented or reserved. And don't forget about their sizable outside patio seating. I was surprised but not displeased in their new restaurant format. I haven't been to anything like it but it seemed to work pretty well. Let me explain. When you walk in, you seat yourself which isn't necessarily abnormal. They still have a host booth so I would imagine if they were wall to wall busy someone would be managing the seating and waitlist. Once you pick your spot, there is a small sign on each table that has a QR code and states your table number. Here is the new part, no servers!? So you scan the QR code and it takes you to an ordering site. You browse the menu, place your order (drinks too), and pay all from your phone. They then have food and drink "runners" who bring your order directly to your table. Unique right!? The food was good. We went for their crab rangoon pizza that we've had in the past. Still as delicious and cheesy as last time (just bring a napkin and maybe a wet wipe, sticky!). We also tried their Cajun tots, which to be honest were just like regular tater tots with seasoning. I ordered a pineapple mule which was tasty, but I would of preferred it in a copper mug vs the glass it came in. Overall great experience, love the concept. The place is busy with a healthy Crowd, it's bright, airy with a combination high tops and tables. There are tons of TV's for your viewing pleasures. They have no beers of their own and our party tried to order 5 different beers they were out, one person got the wrong beer and went to the bar and asked for a different one. The Bartender was less than receptive to giving him the correct beer. The Nachos were a bit overdone and dry, with little actual flavor. The Chicken sandwich was ok, and side salad was ok. Several in the party though the food was ok and portions were good. The dining area filled up fast and service slowed severely, Two persons beers took over 20 minutes to get as the bar was slammed. We saw at least one table walk out from no service, we opted to not get any additional drinks or other items due the time and lack of staff to adequately service our table. This was on a monday night between 6:15 and 7:30. I would not return to this restaurant again unless I knew there was adequate staff to serve customers. We were there to watch some sports as well and as best we could tell there were 2 guys responsible for the entire dining room & bar on a Saturday night. Bartender was flying all around clearly over extended and the other guy was a bus boy, food runner, bar back and might have also been a cook (?) Ordered a blue hamburger & Cajun tater tots. Blue cheese consumed the burger, close to 8 ounces piled on the burger, yeesh! Tots were okay, burger claimed to be 1/2 pound but seemed a good bit less. We meet here once a month with a group of people to have our committee meetings for a youth group. The location is just right for a group meeting, hanging out with friends or watching some sports. It's even kid friendly, there is even a kids menu. Plenty of TVs, Sunday Ticket, a ton of beers and frequent specials make for a great atmosphere. The staff is really attentive and know the menu as well as their way around a beer selection. Logan in particular is a great waiter- he always remembers our drinks (and favorite food). I enjoy the chicken tenders, and even though they aren't remotely healthy the "totchos" are amazing. It's really just a typical bar menu, but the food is always pretty tasty and hot when it comes out. They have a really nice patio here and a back room that would be a good location for things like parties or group events. I love our monthly trips here and would recommend it to everyone. read more

For as many hotels are surrounding this location we thought that it would be a lot busier. I think with all the options of restaurants in this location keep the people going to the other options. We swung in on a Friday evening to try them out. My husband thought it was called something else and has apparently changed names since the last time we drove by. We got to pick our seat. (giggle) The majority of the seating is at the bar or high top tables. There was so many TVs in this place that if you turned off the lights you would still be able to see your dinner from the illumination. I picked the buffalo chicken wrap with a side of cottage cheese. It comes with ranch to dip it. The ranch was a little thin for my taste. It ran through the wrap and out the other side... fail on my part. The wrap had a nice spicy kick to it and filling. My husband chose the burger with the blue cheese and fried onions on it. He choose the side of crispy crinkle fries. Hes so sweet and let me have a bite. I liked it. (Eyebrows up and head nod.) I do want to mention they have a big selection of beers on tap. Lots and lots of TVs for whatever game is on. However the volume is not cranked way up so we could have a nice conversation without fighting noise. Can I leave zero stars? Let me back up a few years as baseline. Never impressive service. I've always tried to talk people out of this place since it upsets them after. I guess it just reopened. Here's the skinny: you can sit there and figure out how to menu-dive a QR code thing. They will not approach, talk to you, nor bring you water. I finally went to the bar itself and completely confused them with cash. That took awhile. I finally asked if there was a way to order a napkin, or service. You'll get a 3.5% addition for using a card and that comes with a default suggested tip of 18%. I don't tip at McDonald's and now I feel bad about that after being here. read more

Stopped in here to meet a friend in Urbandale for an early afternoon lunch on Friday. It's a good thing I didn't have to be anywhere quickly because the service was S.L.O.W. There weren't many patrons at the time we arrived and it still took our server several minutes to take our drink orders. I do appreciate this place serving up a lot of local brews. A place that calls themselves "The Beerhouse" should feature a lot of local beers and they do just that. I had an Exile Ruthie, one of my favorite pale ales. The beer prices are right on the level with everyone else in the DSM metro area. I like the food menu because it isn't over-complicated and isn't huge. They have some unusual items (such as their white truffle fries and poutine beef sandwich) but offer up the same old-fashioned pub food that we've all grown to love. I had the Guinness Stout BBQ wings as an appetizer. These are really good. Nice and crispy on the inside with the BBQ flavor all over the outside as they should be. Bleu Cheese dippings sauce was also quite good with BIG pieces of blue cheese in it. I'm a fan of burgers and tots and they offered both on the menu, along with several sandwiches, pizza and salads. The beef dip with giardinera is pretty good, though a bit of a mess to eat. I had cajun tots with it and those were good, but not as spicy as I would expect. This place has a nice atmosphere, a great beer menu and a decent food selection, though I thought the food was a tad overpriced. $13 for a burger and fries + $5 for a beer and your total is already at $20 plus tip. Add a $10 appetizer to it and it's getting expensive. Even with that being said, it's a fun atmosphere with high-top tables, full bar, lots of TVs and decent pub food.
