Booked this hotel based on location and price but didn't have high hopes based on some reviews. I was pleasantly surprised! Love the concierge doorman service and the valet service. HOWEVER they said it was $55 on the phone for valet and it was actually $80. Self park is $55. Since we were only here for 1 day we said fine and let it be valet. The staff was nice and we did the "run of the house" room selection. We asked for 2 doubles and we received what we requested and were able to check in early and got a great room on the 12th floor. I loved the old world decor and the rooms were updated with a nice kitchenette and granite/quartz counters in there and bathroom. The location was optimal!! We were able to get to Central Park and then take the E train down to the World Trade Center and see the memorial and Freedom tower! Then hop on the 1 and head to Statue of Liberty and Battery Park. Then came back up to Times Square & Broadway! So easy to get around! Main station stops are right on 50th! BUT the walls are thin and sirens all night from being in a busy area. So bring earplugs My other complaint is that you can't being a luggage cart up yourself. Once you ask for the cart the bellhop brings it up and you better be ready to go. We had no issues with the elevator service until later in the evening around 9 pm when everyone was starting to come in for the evening. I feel so conflicted writing this review. More than 20 years ago, I stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks while I looked for a more permanent apartment. I got the dream job of a lifetime, and I had to move immediately to NYC and found a good rate here. Wildly, this place hasn't really changed from more than 20 years ago. You'll still find landlines, and the rooms clearly haven't been updated in the 20 years since I've stayed here. I recently stayed here with my family, a full circle moment since I was pretty much a kid when I stayed here. I was mostly disappointed in my stay. If you stay here, request a room on a higher floor. The construction and noise woke me up at 4 AM every morning. It was so loud and jarring! There are only 2 elevators and on my most recent stay, there was only 1 working elevator. It was so slow and often challenging to get any space to board it. I was traveling with my family of four, but there were only 2 towels in the room. I went to the front desk to request more towels, but they never arrived. I ended up searching the hotel and found an abandoned cart with towels on another floor. I don't think I'd ever recommend this hotel. It feels like it's struggling, but I have such fond memories of this place. A bright spot is the location. It's right in the heart of midtown and close to all the theaters and restaurants. Also the room has a fridge and little kitchenette area. That is one of the bonuses. read more

I was excited to find a deal on Expedia for the Belvedere Hotel. It seemed like a reasonable priced option that was conveniently located within dealing distance of Central Park and Times Square. Check in went smoothly. Our flight arrived very late and when I called the staff was accommodating to my late check in. We were immediately informed that the main elevator was out of order. This left the stairs and two side maintenance elevators as the only way to get to our room on the 6th floor. I had some major issues with my stay including a malfunctioning elevator which caused me to have to use the stairs to get to my room. The side elevators were always full and slow to arrive so had to take 6 flights of stairs to get to my room. Also had to carry my luggage down 6 flights of stairs after waiting 15 minutes for the side elevated and kept coming by full. Very frustrating and the floor did not have an ice machine on it so had to take the stairs to get ice. Also the room smelled very moldy/musty for some reason and the shower drain was clogged. The cleaning staff did a thorough job as well, but nothing sure what was causing the musty smell in our room. The room was spacious for a New York hotel with a front area with a mini fridge and two full size beds and a desk area. There was plenty of room for two people. The price point for a double bed was quite a bit more pricey than just a single bed. The staff at the front door were very friendly and they were quick to help me with directions when trying to get somewhere. They also had a morning breakfast with hot coffee, chocolate and granola bars. On our last day it rained and the bottom floor was blocked off with tape due to a water leak and flooding. All these issues were reported during the Expedia check in follow-up and a staff member did follow up with me about it, but nothing was ever resolved. It was a very convenient location, but was expecting a better experience at this price point. read more

Stayed here for eight nights. I've stayed in this hotel many times for the last few years, but never for this long. My eight night day was very comfortable. I was on the eighth floor and the air conditioner. Worked well on warm days and the heater worked well on cold days. The bedroom was clean and nice. The bathroom was also clean in the shower drained just fine. For the first few days, both of the main elevators were not working and so we all had to use the side hallway elevators. Then they got one of the main elevators working again and that helped with congestion. For anyone considering this hotel I do think it is important to know that they have different categories of rooms that reflect different remodeling periods. I always stay in the deluxe room category and I think the rooms are very nice particularly considering the price. I haven't stayed in the standard rooms but based on the photos, I probably wouldn't choose to do that. The rooms usually aren't ready until pretty close to the 4 PM check-in time and so I always leave my luggage with the bellhop. I tipped them and they're very nice people. Avoid at all costs. Management is extremely unprofessional and rude. I presented a legal digital ID but the man at the desk refused to accept it. I explained that my wallet was stolen and that I did not have a physical ID and he told me to come back when I found one. I asked to speak with someone else and he said he was the manager and that no one was higher than him. I asked what I was supposed to do. He repeated, "go find your ID." I tried to explain again that this was a legal ID but that if he wouldn't accept it, I needed the reservation canceled. He agreed to cancel the reservation. I told him I didn't know what I was supposed to do now. He told me to "fuck off" and to leave. Screamed at me in front of the entire lobby of guests. He even called me back up to the desk as I reached the door just to yell, "fuck you" in my face. Today I was charged for a "no show" because he wouldn't accept my ID. When I spoke to "customer service" they said if I had printed the digital ID on paper they would've accepted it. This was the first time I had heard that. Stayed here last week on the third floor across the hall from us was a police sealed door that had the code that stated there was a death in the room. The first day we stayed there there was a heavy smell of cleaner. The next day when we came back at 1 AM we could smell deaf wreaking through the hallway into our room. The next morning during checkout, we complained to the front desk and they stated that had been over two weeks ago the death happened. We stated that we could smell it for multiple days. They said that no one else complained, which was insane because we stayed right across the hall from it. They refunded the facility fee, which is $45 which is absolutely insane mind you this was the hotel. We stayed in the day after our wedding. After all of this, they ended up charging me the hotel cleaning fee twice and refunding it twice, but never contacted me about it. This hotel is outdated and disgusting. read more

This hotel was decent . Very good location and right off Broadway and like a 3minute walk to time square. The hotel was pretty clean and the maids came and cleaned the room very good. Nice front desk staff. Cons: small lobby, small and slow elevator, only 30 minutes that you can use for computer time if you need to use the computer. You can use it longer but it'll cut off and start over. My cousin is 6'3 and said that the beds were short but I'm short and they were fine to me. I'd stay here again because the my complaints are minor, rooms are clean but can be a little updated, great location! read more

I would not stay there again but the proximity to where I needed to be was good and that's why I stayed there. It's a very old hotel, very old. My room was dingy, dark, and outdated. AC unit in the window blocked most of the light, no outlets to charge my phone except for TV plug. light on nightstand was not plugged in and could not find any plugs behind on the wall. Bathroom was tiny and the so called amenities (lotion and soap dispensers on the wall) I could have done without frankly. My room smelled so strong of bleached cleaner and deodorizer that it was most intoxicating and horrible, I had to keep my door open for a long time. My view was depressing and the cafe downstairs was not much better with the automatic "press the button" coffee machine. The staff was not necessarily rude but not exactly friendly either. They were curt, and not very patient. Anyway, won't return to The Belvedere nor NYC for that matter. read more

A Week of Chaos, Miscommunication, and Zero Accountability -- Stay Elsewhere I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with this hotel was so frustrating, inconsistent, and frankly disrespectful that I feel obligated to warn other travelers. Before my trip, I emailed and called the hotel to explain that I'd be arriving early -- my flight landed at 6 a.m., and I'd be on the property by 7 a.m. I kindly asked for early check-in and was told: "It's not guaranteed. You'll find out day-of. If available, it's a $75 fee." With regular check-in not until 4 p.m., you're basically forced into paying it -- even with luggage storage, you're left dealing with a long, hot, and uncomfortable day post-flight. When we arrived -- exhausted in nearly 95-degree heat -- we called the front desk four times between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. No help, no options, just repeated "not ready yet" responses. A kind janitor took pity and let us rest in the "coffee room," which was the only act of hospitality we experienced that morning. After I finally voiced how unacceptable the situation was -- especially given my weeks-ahead communication -- my room "suddenly" became available 15 minutes later. The timing was insulting. I was placed on a different floor from my friends, and my room reeked of cigarette smoke -- in a non-smoking hotel. I tried to stick it out but began feeling nauseous after a few hours. When I called to request a new room, I was moved to the same floor as my friends (which I appreciated), but that room also smelled awful -- especially near the air conditioning unit, which seemed to blow out stale, possibly moldy air. Even basic amenities were a problem. There was no coffee machine in the room, so if you wanted a cup, you had to be downstairs before 10 a.m. -- and it was just a tiny 6 oz vending-machine-style cup. Getting to the lobby from the 16th floor meant enduring slow elevators that stopped at nearly every floor for guests and housekeeping carts. Once downstairs, the lobby was packed with people waiting for check-in, rides, or just crowding the area. By the time you got your scalding-hot mini coffee and made it back up through the elevator chaos, you were more exhausted than when you started. My friend's room had a brown, dripping puddle of liquid leaking from their AC unit -- which no one ever rushed to fix. I asked for a blanket one night because I was cold and was brought a sheet. I didn't even bother asking about the missing robe and slippers that my friends had in their room, despite us all booking the same category. Just another sign of inconsistency. Checkout didn't bring relief either. I called to request an airport transfer -- something I was told by phone the hotel offered. The front desk agent rudely told me I wasn't eligible because I "booked through Expedia." I explained -- multiple times -- that I booked directly through the hotel, just like my friends. She insisted I hadn't, until I went down 16 floors to speak to her in person and show her proof. Only then did she admit we had booked directly -- but now claimed they don't actually offer airport transfers, only that the doorman can hail a cab. So why the false information? Why bring up Expedia at all? And if that wasn't enough -- I still haven't received my invoice. I called after my stay to request it, and the person on the phone actually asked, "Well, did you give us your email?" As if it's not required just to make a reservation. Yes, I gave my email. Yes, it's on file. Yes, I've followed up. And no -- I still have not received it. The only people who showed any professionalism during my entire stay were the maintenance staff and the doorman. They were friendly, helpful, and clearly trying their best. The front desk, on the other hand, was the core of the problem -- rude, dismissive, misinformed, and completely uninterested in providing even basic hospitality. This hotel was a mess from start to finish. If you value clear communication, comfort, or customer service, I suggest you stay far, far away. read more

Would definitely recommend the Belvedere Hotel. We stayed there this past weekend and thought the room was reasonably priced and in a good location for tourists. They hold bags which is very convenient for travelers trying to make the most of their time in the city. The rooms were relatively clean and spacious for the area. Only downfall was the elevators took a long time and we usually end up taking the stairs. Would stay here again! read more

We had a great experience as always staying at the Belvedere. The room was large and comfortable and the shower was excellent. The beds are comfortable and the room is spacious. The location is prime, very close to restaurants and the Theatre District but not so close where you're overwhelmed by noise and foot traffic. When we needed assistance in our room, an engineer was sent up and arrived within five minutes. Customer service was responsive and personal. We will definitely be back and encourage everyone to give it a try. read more

Previously I stayed at this hotel for three times. This time in the alleged "handicapped" room, my friend fell and injured her right hand. (There was a slight rise between tile and carpet which tripped her up). Her hand swelled immediately and we were concerned of a bone break. When I called Lobby, they would not even send ice bag up to our room. Finally a doorman helped with securing ice when I went down to lobby. Only offer of help was to make a call for an ambulance if we wanted. Disappointing and cold responses. We checked out a day early because of her injury. read more

we come to nyfw every feb and sept, so twice a year. i always check out new hotels near the times square area to see what hotels i enjoy staying at. this was our first time at belvedere hotel, we only stayed for 1 night to experience it. honestly the rooms are good, but i understand they are working on the elevators so the wait took a little bit of a wait. the room needs to have a good air flow when the guest arrives, it had a bit of a musty smelling scent in the room i think because of the cold weather month causing dampness i believe. but i love the robes in the closet and the sink, fridge, and microwave in our room. what i was very upset with that happened that i absolutely hate about the belvedere hotel is the luggage check in uses really sticky stickers and puts on our bags when you check in luggage. this is aweful and not good. i just purchased my bag for $150 souvenir from nyfw and we couldn't get the glue from the sticker off my bag, even the manager tried with water and wipes and it just didn't come out and ended up look scratched after all the work to try to get it off the bag.....it's patent leather so u can see the scratches. anyway, i wasn't happy with my stay because of that fact. the manager couldnt do anything for me, i was very upset with the sticker situation, most hotels uses tag with string or nothing as sticky as what you guys use, that aweful and would never want to check my bags in at your hotel. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I booked a reservation late last night, only to be told this morning that the person the reservation was booked for tested positive for COVID. As there are several people in the company sick. Didn't speak to management but provided a test result and to them it wasn't sufficient enough. So probably if the person died, you'd need to provide a death certificate and they'd still tell you "too bad". Just don't book here. Not worth it for the horrible customer service. It could be worse, but it could be so much better. I can work with older buildings, like when the spouts for the bathtub are separate for hot and cold. What is not okay is that the hot is at scalding temp and when you turn off the water the shower head drips scalding droplets onto your arms. And more so when you're struggling to open the cold knob, unsure which directions to go because there are no labels. And then your feet are covered in water because the tub does not drain faster than it pours. Additionally, I've found one beside lamp to not work, not enough outlets, and the window unit AC to be loud enough to disturb sleep. read more

Room was ample, clean, renovated and well lit. We really enjoyed the bed and shower, the kitchnette was prefect for storing/reheating leftovers, no complaints here. I purchased this hotel on the BJ's travel website as I am a BJ's member. I was a bit concerned about the price being so low. Hotel is just beautiful, clean , staff is amazing! Front desk went out of there way to o accommodate . Location is awesome , 1 quiet block in from all the action . For a NYC hotel room is quite large, large clean bathroom, outside BR sink, drink fridge, microwave , huge closet. I will be returning here! Old beautiful hotel. Certain times of day, I did have to wait a few minutes for elevator, but there are 3 banks of elevators so you have options. You can't go wrong here! I believe the hotel has other amenities, but I only used the free coffee in the AM. This is an old NYC building, it's old and beautiful. The lobby looks decent, but once you go to the hallway it reeks of mildew and urine, and the rooms are filthy. The shower was covered in mold and we found bugs in the room. I'm kind of surprised by all the low-ish reviews! Stayed here this past November while on a random excursion to NYC. A quick Expedia search and we ended up staying here, since the price was right for the area. In an age where hotels are falling apart and cutting back on every single thing, staying here was super refreshing. Check-in was friendly and effortless, the facility was in remarkably good shape (super clean, elevators worked great as did HVAC controls). I had a room on one of the top floors, and it was immaculate. Even the bedding was comfortable and not at all worn out, like so many hotels I've stayed at in recent history. Bravo! I only stayed one night, but it was such a comfortable stay that I'll be looking to come again in the future. Not sure if the "facility fee" is the hotel's doing, or an NYC thing, but it was a bit jarring to have a bunch of extra charges on check in. All in all otherwise, a great hotel in a good location, not too far from NYP. read more

The Belvedere hotel is in an excellent location slightly off the beaten path. The room I received was spacious and clean. It is somewhat of an older hotel but has a certain charm. The room came with a large bed, wide screen TV, a desk area, and a comfortable chair. The lobby is large, and the check in area is to your right as you enter. There appeared to be a concierge area opposite this to book shows. There are two elevators on the smaller side due to the age of the facility. Check in was quick and painless. Coffee and hot chocolate are served in the morning from 7-10a along with a complimentary granola bar, one per person. There is no restaurant on the premises however there are many choices along 8th and 9th Avenues. The bathroom may have been recently renovated. The shower had good water pressure, and hot water was plentiful. The towels were a bit small [I am of average size] and were somewhat old. Replacement is in order. Shampoo, shower gel, etc. It is mounted to the wall in the tub which is handy. There are no grab bars and no bath mat is provided. The desk area is ample, and the desk chair comfortable but unfortunately, there are almost no outlets or USB ports. The bed was very comfortable, but an extra blanket would have made my stay ideal. There was an extra pillow in the closet. The closet is a nice size with ample room for coats and clothes. In addition, this houses a safe, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. One very nice perk as you walk in is the small kitchenette, which has a sink, microwave and fridge. This is great for leftovers. Regretfully, there is no coffee/tea service provided or any bottled water. A business center is in the lobby as well as a fitness center. There is a Brazilian steakhouse behind the hotel with the entrance on 49th Street. If you decide to stay here, book directly with the hotel since you will be discounted. One caveat-there is a daily facility fee along with state and city tax, which you can pay with either card or cash upon check out. In summary, it was a pleasant visit to NYC to see friends and I would recommend and would stay at the Belvedere again. read more

I've stayed at many hotels in this price category in NYC and I have to say, we were pleasantly surprised at The Belvedere! The hotel is a bit older but I liked it's character and the pluses more than made up for it. It was clean, the rooms and bathrooms were huge and very comfortable. I had the best shower i've had in a long time! The front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating. It's a smaller hotel so you feel very taken care of. It's in a great neighborhood with a ton close by buy also feels more relaxed. We will be staying here from now on. read more

The stay was decent . A few employees were not kind to my parents. Our second night into our week stay we found roaches in the bathroom and hallway. When addressed we moved rooms but lost the privilege of having a conjoined room with my family for Christmas. We got 20% off the first night in our new room.... Then we saw a roach in that bathroom too. Along with gross soap containers, a smelly drain and dirty under the bed. Breakfast was granola bars, the elevators were too small and took forever to get on, as we left today one was out of order actually. It's too expensive to have an experience like we did. read more

Apologies for any misspelled names - I have never written a bad review in my life, and quite literally just made a yelp account because of what happened at this hotel. We arrived at the Belvedere after booking a room for four nights about 3 weeks ahead of time, and even called a few days before arriving just to make sure everything was all good. Once we got there, they told us our reservation had been cancelled (might I add, the night manager - a man named Keiner - RAN away to the back office once it was clear there was a problem) with no notification on our end. Once we finally got ahold of the manager, he treated us so horribly, ignored our confirmation email with all of our room information on it, and claimed that our reservation was cancelled because our card was declined. We were aware of this, as the hotel had called about a week beforehand to say we had the wrong card on file. The card was changed, and we called the hotel to clarify that the charge had gone through and we, in fact, had a room. The Belvedere had this phone call on file as well, stating that our room was booked and paid for. Keiner attempted to tell us that we had been sent a cancellation email from the hotel, but we had nothing, and the date he said it was sent from was BEFORE we had called the hotel and confirmed we had a room, so that timeline's not lining up - clearly they had overbooked the hotel and would not own up to it. We were not late to our check in, and when we started asking the manager to help us, he started calling other hotels and saying that WE had cancelled our reservation. I don't throw the term 'gaslight' around lightly, but this man tried so aggressively to convince us that we had cancelled our own reservation to the point where he had absolutely no proof of a real cancellation email being sent out. He called their sister hotel to see if there were any rooms available (at midnight in NYC, not likely), again stating that we never had a reservation with them. When we asked if there were any other hotels he could call, he interrupted us with a flat no - thankfully, a separate employee working at the desk, named Hawk, heard us and called out a list of at least three hotels he could be calling. This review is directed exactly at Keiner and the Belvedere, but Hawk was extremely helpful and very kind. He continuously tried to help us and was calling anyone that was still open, because at this point we literally had no where to go. Keiner has disappeared at this point, and after about an hour and a half of us going back and further and calling hotels, all of the sudden he comes back and asks for our IDs, and we're like why?? and he's like um for your room? very convenient. We then had a very concerning conversation that led me to believe he had cancelled someone else's reservation so that he could get us in after he'd overbooked the hotel (I suspect this is what happened to our reservation in the first place). We asked how magically and suddenly a room had become available, and he got all shifty and said 'that's how the system works' and that he could not tell us any more than that. When we asked if he was cancelling someone else's reservation because he overbooked the hotel, he said 'at least you have a room'. This man had us running around in circles for an hour and a half in the middle of the night with absolutely no proof of our reservation being cancelled. Despite us having everything we needed for the reservation and remaining very calm the entire ordeal, he treated myself and my friends terribly, and it was clear that the other employees can't stand him either. He had us re-book the room through booking.com (HIS recommendation), and then when I asked if we could have quite literally any compensation for how horribly things had gone, he said 'well if you booked through our website, yes, but you used a third party website' - might I add we HAD booked through their website in the first place! And then he absolutely disappeared and we did not see him the rest of our trip, thankfully. All this being said, the room was additionally very dingy, the bathroom was not clean, and the appliances and furniture were covered in scrapes and scratches. Thank you to Hawk at the front desk for being so kind our whole stay, but we will not be coming back. Keiner should not be working in hospitality in any way. read more

I was staying there to leave a volatile, unsafe situation I found myself in. Well, that person found out where I was staying, came to the hotel and provided my name to the front desk asking if I was a guest there. Front desk searched my name, VERIFIED I WAS IN FACT A GUEST THERE , then called my room to ask if he could come up. That absolutely should NEVER happen. If the person arriving does not have room number then they are NOT permitted to be there. That person ended up waiting outside for me hours until I left the hotel . Police had to get involved. It was mortifying and scary. In addition to this, when I got into my room (very outdated for the price we are charged, I might add ) I had a full asthma attack. Turns out the guest before me had a service animal and the room wasn't as thoroughly cleaned as it should have been, and I was evidently allergic to the breed. When I spoke to the manager upon checkout, she was very nice and listened to me. Yet ZERO accomodations were made. Zero effort at a discounted rate or compensation was made. I enjoyed this hotel and appreciated its proximity to the Theatre District. It's an older hotel but the rooms were nice enough. The staff is friendly and helpful. I object to the $20.00 per day "Facility Fee", which is just a way of gouging guests for more money. Honestly, the room cost us between $300 - $467 per night (depending on the day of the week), plus tons of taxes (which I realize don't go to the hotel). The extra $20 was unjustified considering there are no amenities offered or given. read more

We had the best stay at The Belvedere. It is in a great location! The beds were super comfortable and the room was clean. We were super thankful to have a microwave and fridge. We had no trouble with long waits for the elevators. We had a great view of the city from the 12th floor. I loved the historic elements of the Belvedere (like the mail chute by the elevators). I've stayed at this hotel before; however, the standard has dropped considerably. End of April 2025 five nights. Two nights I returned from business meetings and the room had not been made up at all. I'd left a $5 tip on the bed and still there. And, NO, I did not have a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. The second time I did not return until 11pm and the room had not been cleaned. I had stripped the bed because of food stains on the sheets and left a $10 tip. I called the front desk and they said, "housekeeping is gone for the day". I informed them that I left my room at 10:30 a.m. and there was no excuse. They sent a man to the room with all the bedding for "me" to make up the bed and switch out the towels. When I stripped the mattress cover off the bed there were huge stains on the mattress that were so disgusting I didn't feel I could sleep on the mattress. I checked out in the morning. When I complained the manager said she would credit it $20x2 for the two days the room was not made up. This is so unhealthy. Stay at your own risk. Check the actual mattress before you go to bed. read more
