My fiancee and I wanted to get some bicycles to add some fun fitness to our lives. After visiting several huge retailers, we quickly realized that most places sell what they have, not whats best for you. The Bicycle Lab reminds me of the smaller boutique stores I went to in NYC but with a larger selection of premium products. Really I don't think they sell anything that they wouldn't use themselves. We both selected some Felt hybrid bikes and were measured. When they were ready to pickup the guys stayed after hours, helping get all our gear installed and the bike rack mounted to my truck. Jeff and the guys didn't rush me, they took the time to watch me ride, adjust my seat, explain everything, and offer advice without being pushy. First of all, I wish I had discovered Jeff and his bicycle lab sooner.. one of the kindest humans I have ever met (I work at sbux- I've met A LOT of people). I went in on my first visit (side note: I currently live a little less then 10 min away but went in 10 min before closing) looking for two things: a bolt for rear wheel and a bolt for the seat stem. The fact that one of the first things he asked about was ab price points (I'm moving 1800 miles west and am a little $trapped) he followed up with color options as he pulled out a 6x4 in cardboard box full of used tire bolts (in incredible condition- like, it wasn't even noticeable that the part was used). Okay, great.. So then! We get to the seat stem.. come to find out.. differs from bike to bike. To get the correct measurement, he needed the frame and stem. I only brought the rear wheel. He offered to keep his shop open so I could run home and he could properly fit the bolt to the seat stem. Such an incredibly kind and generous human. The Bicycle Lab is an OUTSTANDING shop. Jeff and Jim together spent 5 hrs with me over 3 days to identify the bike best suited for my intentions, size a bike to my ancient body, and fit it once it arrived. They are very knowledgeable, listen, and explain clearly, with no pretensions. I bought a bike at a different shop a few years ago. Although they spent a few minutes to "size" a bike for me, it hurt to ride more than 10 miles. I feared I'd have to give up cycling. Jeff & Jim went many extra miles, ordered the bike (instead of conveniently selling one off the floor), and the bike they delivered fit perfectly. I was very tentative about riding in this heavy Florida traffic; Jeff outfitted the bike with safety lights and upgraded other outdated gear I had. No pressure. Their prices are very reasonable. With a properly performing bike, I now feel confident - while remaining cautious - riding this bike in traffic. During the 5 hours I was there, numerous people came into the store to chat or to buy a bike or needing repairs. Jeff and Jim were very courteous to everyone, whether novices looking for comfort bikes or experts looking for advice. I, with my fossilized bones, am on the road again. My friends and I were down from Boston doing a training camp, and were plagued by problem after problem... I can't begin to say enough good things about these guys! I have worked in jobs involving customer service my whole career and I know good customer service when I, rarely, see it. These guys have it nailed! I was having problems with my bike and was going to take it to a local shop until I saw their awful reviews. I then went to Yelp! and found this shop. To be honest, great reviews on Yelp have proven wrong on a number of occasions in the past, but not this time! I thought I was having problems with my front derailleur. When I pedaled, I was hearing a loud clicking and a creaking sound. Jim, the mechanic, was able to diagnose it as being due to the spindle (the part that rotates as you pedal) being loose. I don't think it was assembled quite right when I first purchased it elsewhere several years ago. Update: There were a minimum of FOUR separate problems that had to be fixed! (The bill was still pretty reasonable, despite this.) Pardon my lack of technical knowledge but one part was literally bad from the factory. There is a bolt with an integrated washer that holds the crank to the spindle(?) The washer should have been round and it was actually oblong! The bolt was also noticeably oblong. (To a mechanic savvy enough to remove and inspect it.) Jim showed me aluminum shavings where wear had been occurring. Better yet, he had the part in stock! As a former technician in another field, I know this type of situation (with multiple causes) is one of the hardest to solve and requires a lot of knowledge and persistence. Thank you Jim, you stuck with it until it was properly fixed! I could imagine other shops fixing it halfway and then just copping out with a "well, that's as good as it's going to get." Not at The Bicycle Lab! I have been riding at the recreational level since I have been a kid and I learned a lot listening to Jeff. My seat height was inches too high, no wonder I was feeling knee issues as I have been increasing my biking lately. I was "hyper-extending" my leg. Later, as I continued to ramp up my biking, I discovered I was starting to feel some pain in my elbows. Jim knew right away that my handlebars were not adjusted properly and I was riding with my elbow joints almost locked. He explained how to very easily adjust this to my preference. I should have known not to lock joints at full extension from the few times I have worked with a personal trainer. Case in point, when doing leg presses on a machine. It hadn't occurred to me that this also applied to cycling. Everything about my bike is perfect now! My bike is riding quietly and smoothly, literally better than new! Any aches and pains are gone. You can feel confident that if you bring your bike here for service, both you and your bike will be treated great! read more

I previously rode a hybrid bike so I am new to the road bike world. Jeff helped me get everything I needed to get started! He was very helpful & has extensive knowledge of bikes & the sport. I got my bike fitted & tuned up with several parts that had to be switched out for my size, they put cleats on my shoes, and I got a pair of riding shorts there. I will definitely be back. I have had my bike in here several times for a multitude of problems and they always seem to fix it right the first time and it never takes more than a day or two. Every time I come in I learn something else as the guys always take to the time to answer all my questions and then some. Best bicycle shop experience in a really long time! I had a really tall order. I needed a bike tuned up in a 24 hour turn around time two days before Christmas. After calling around to many bike shops in the area and constantly being told I was nuts for asking for such a thing, the owner of Bicycle Lab let me know that it wasn't a problem at all. I brought the bike in and they had it done in less than a day! My bike needed a tune up, new rear derailleur, new tires, and new grip tape. Since I know a thing or two about bike repair, I was able to save myself a few bucks by doing some of the labor myself, a suggestion made by the owner!! I wanted to start using Bicycle Labs, as the bike shop closest to my house, but when I asked to exchange a pair of shoes for next size up, I was told, "No". I was actually trying to do them a favor as shoes can be pretty well discounted from the internet companies. Sizing can be tricky and I was right between sizes. I was told I needed the cleat to match the pedal and it was installed on my shoe. I didn't realize at the time, but I already had the cleats that came with the pedals at home. That cost me and extra $20 and was the reason given for not exchanging. I never used the shoes, just walked in the house a little and realized they were a tad on the small side. My mistake. Congratulations Bicycle Lab, you got my money, but you also lost a customer permanently. read more
