My friends and I couldn't get enough poutine while we were in Calgary. We came here on our last night and split three different poutines: the Notorious P.I.G., the cheeseburger, and the taco. We enjoyed all of them! If you are a pork lover, you will love the Notorious P.I.G., which had lots of pulled pork, bacon, and sausage. The cheeseburger poutine was fun and probably my favorite of the three because it tasted just like a cheeseburger (but with fries). Wasn't a fan of the guac in the taco poutine, but other than that, it was fine. The Big Cheese Poutinerie definitely keeps things interesting and we would have loved to try a bunch of the other poutines on the menu if we were in town longer. We never had to wait long for our poutine to be ready. It took 5-10 minutes each. Taste | 4 Atmosphere | 3 Presentation | 4 Service | 3.5 OVERALL | 4

Originally from Nova Scotia and was looking for my poutine fix. Found this place online and saw that they do donair poutine and have been told that only Nova Scotia can do donair right so thought I would try it. They didn't disappoint, the donair tasted like the kind back in Nova Scotia although I did find the sauce to be a tad on the sweet side but definitely delicious. Definitely recommend and will be back to try another kind

I'm no poutine expert, but id say this was pretty good but not exceptional. Portions were good, decent price, decent service. Ambiance wasn't amazing, jaws was playing on both TVs. I'd try more poutine places before going back.

Solid offerings! Brought a contingent of Conference presenters from around the world who were looking for their Poutine experience. Every one of the 6 guests ordered a different item - that's quite a feat in itself! The small size was more than adequate and everyone was well filled. With a menu that lists Porky Pig, Notorious P.I.G., Pigasus, Hog Heaven, Perogie Poutine, Hogzilla, Maple Bacon (double smoked), and soooo many other choices, every order was consumed with gusto! Everyone agreed that it hit the spot. The gentleman working the till was great, warm and welcoming for our international visitors coming and going, and definitely knew the menu. Having celiac disease, it's not a fad, it's not a diet, in order to stay healthy, it's a medical necessity and they were happy to help out in spades. Literally he said "...it's easier for me to tell you what HAS gluten, than what does not." I can say that gives a bit of confidence that you don't get dining everywhere with Gluten Free, Gluten Smart etc. labelling that not everywhere understands. I ordered the Porky Pig and it was a tasty bite of gravy & melty curds, (no, they weren't all that squeaky, but most folks don't know what squeaky curds are and wouldn't like them anyway - the folks that do, will find them.). Topped with double smoked bacon, italian sausage, but what I really wanted were the mushrooms and carmelized onions. Milkshakes! Check out that list! While I was craving a Dad's root beer, had it been a bit warmer or sunnier and not threatening to rain, I might have ordered one. Next time! Not sure if there's a consistency problem, but we all had well crafted boxes of treats. Yes, they use plastic cutlery, but hey, you can always bring your own!

FULL VIDEO REVIEW: https://youtu.be/25v9P7APqmo I tried the classic poutine and I would rate it a solid experience. The fries were nice and firm, holding the gravy well. The gravy was nice and flavorful, and there was a healthy amount of cheese curds. Flavors were all solid, texture was on point! I haven't tried anything outside of the classic poutine, but I would recommend that menu option!

Not only was the poutine very good here, the corn fritters were amazing! Wish we had one of these where we live, but we would probably go too often so, it's likely best. We had the yamtastic poutine & a large was HUGE. I would say get a smaller size to avoid soggy Fries by the time you get to the bottom of the pile if you don't care for soggy fries. I don't mind them & the husband actually likes them that way. Service was the only thing even slightly lacking, but the older woman who made & delivered our food more than made up for the lackluster order taker. He may have just been shy, but he didn't greet us or ask what we'd like to order, so we just started when he was looking our way.

    Thanks

What a f'n shit hole business these fuckers run! Sat there 35 minutes before the place even had customers and never recieved my order which as a first timer, kindly gave them a 20% tip for nothing! So why so angry? Hmm probably because as a diabetic who's blood sugars were 7 before a meal - I went low and could barley keep it together long enough to get our refund! Thankfully there were other services close by that were able to help. GFY

This was only my 2nd time eating poutine and this place was pretty good! I ordered a regular sized porky pig and liked it. It was the perfect portion for me as well. Tried my friend's pulled pork and it was a little too sweet for my liking. Also, I expected more cheese curds and they weren't even that melted The service threw me off a little bit. My group of 3 ordered and about 5 min later 1 more customer. Cashier was nice and friendly, but she delivered the random customer's order of plain poutine to me. My friend said she saw the chef in the window shaking his head LOL Then she came back and tried to deliver the wrong fries to the wrong person again. I can only imagine what happens when there's a bigger crowd in here!

Omg..... this was my first time ever trying poutine and let me tell ya.. this place does not disappoint! We ordered The Ho Town with chicken breast, gravy, bacon and a whole bunch of other goodness and I'm so happy we ended up ordering that one. Every bite was amazing! I thought the fries would get soggy by the time we got to the bottom, but they didn't! The chicken wasn't dry and the gravy has the right amount of seasoning.... I'd come here again

Was wary about stopping by after reading a bunch of one to two star reviews, but was pleasantly surprised by the tasty poutine my partner and I had at The Big Cheese Poutinerie. After reading about how one small order can feed 1-2 people, we decided to order two small options (big mistake--should have only ordered one). We ordered one regular poutine and one Notorious P.I.G. poutine (loved!). The fries were fresh and cooked more on the well down side so they weren't soggy under the gravy, cheese curds, and various meat. The gal manning the till was very friendly and our poutine came out in a timely manner! Would recommend to those wanting a quick, poutine bite, and we recommend only ordering one small order per two people (unless you're absolutely famished...order two).

First time to the Big Cheese and man totally worth it!! Great service! Huge selection of beverages and shakes! Portions and selection of poutine and hot dogs and combos are BIG!!!! They had Iggies jersey hangin game on the big screen and the atmosphere on 17th Ave Red Mile was heating up!! The taste was fantastic and the portion size was massive, couldn't finish it in one go and I had the Large Traditional Poutine!! Locally owned and operated!! Get down there any time early or late and enjoy!!!

You've seen the sign, you've peeked through the window. You've asked time and time again "When is the Big Cheese going to open?" Well my friends, I have an answer for you. Today! And it's a hot little spot. It's in the same place as the old Nellie's, so be prepared for limited seating. 9 tables in all, it's a cozy wait when it's busy. But turnover seems pretty fast so far, so your wait shouldn't be too long! Sporting a menu of 21 different kinds of poutine, these cheesy dishes of potato gravy goodness fall into 5 different categories-traditional, chicken, pork, beef, vegetarian and the all custom built! Oh, but which to try first? My eyes skim the menu like an excited mouse in a cheese pantry. After much deliberation, I decide on the Notorious P.I.G. (Carolina pulled pork, double smoked bacon and Italian sausage), although after pigging out on poutine during yesterday's Poutine Crawl, I opt for the smaller $7.99 portion. Good choice, Wendy, good choice. It comes in a takeout box. And it's a large portion on its own. Smothered in gravy, cheese curds and with pockets of spice. Other items that caught my eye? Scottish Curry - shaved grilled chicken breast and our own authentic Scottish curry sauce Donair - authentically seasoned beef and caramelized onions Veggie Nacho - salsa, sour cream, guacamole and jalapeno peppers Now... if only there were a poutine platter! PS... free wi-fi! Hookup to dlink.

I wanted beef gravy but didn't have a choice in this case. The veggie version was still good, however it didn't match up to the beef version. The poutine was pretty big. They didn't skimp on anything. A bunch of fries with cheese curds scattered throughout, topped with thick cut bacon goodness and just enough gravy to meld it all together and melt the cheese. Calgary does not have good poutines and I was hoping this place was more authentic. Overall, it was good. However, I would compare it to New York Fries. Is it the best poutine I had? No! The price is good and they have many unique flavours that you will get in Quebec. My issue is that I live 5 minutes away and by the time I got home it was cold. Technically the poutine should still be hot after 5 minutes. :( That being said, the fries tasted like left over fries that was refried in oil. Therefore, I question if they actually did that because it didn't take that long for my poutine to be ready. The curds were good but did not squeak and they were a tad cheap on the gravy. Let's just say I was not blown away. I will give this place another shot bc I live so close. Hopefully I could edit this review to a 4 star because I want this business to do well.
