This is how to build customer loyalty! I took my bike into The Bike Rack in Oswego today for a tuneup. I assumed I would drop my bike off, get a ticket and hear back in a few days that my bike was ready, when I would return to the shop, pick up my bike and pay $100. Instead, they immediately put my bike on a rack, did a quick diagnostic, made a 15 second adjustment and told me I was good to go. Oh yeah, they spent a few minutes going over a couple of things I should pay attention to so I can bring my bike back before it might need major repairs. No charge for any of this and it took about 15 minutes start to finish. I have very little experience with a business that actually tells you that you don't really need their services. Payton, Oswego Cyclery, and TREK for the win! I wanted to #ShopLocal and I'm glad that I did. I purchased an FX2 from OC after doing much research on the web. I got the bike I wanted at the same price TREK was offering online. My test cruise on the streets and path by the shop went well. Since it was almost closing time at the shop I came back the next day to to purchase my bike. The following day while riding the bike I noticed something off about the way the bike handled. I rode it maybe 5-6 times, less than 50 miles total, the bike was still not tracking properly when I removed a hand from the bar to signal or reach for water. It did not feel safe. I took it in to the shop to have it looked at before expiration of the 30-day return policy. To my amazement, instead of telling me a bunch of BS they really looked at the front end and headset. According to Payton, they made some adjustments but the issue was still there. I received a call from Payton letting me know that, since the issue appeared to be frame related, they were ordering me a new bike under TREK's lifetime frame warranty. Nice! It is very reassuring to know that the Local Bike Shop and the manufacturer will stand behind their product. If you are looking for a new bike I recommend this store. read more

I have a e-trike that I purchased last year from an online vendor. Problem is service. They are in California with no local vendors here in the area. I needed some basic works on the brakes and gears as well as general maintenance. Nothing with the electrical system was involved. Art Black and his staff did a great job om my bike. I wish I had bought the bike locally. Even though he did not sell the bike, he picked it up at my house, did a great job on it and delivered it back to my house in Sugar Grove. I bought my Trek Checkpoint here. Nice experience but not like the trek store in Madison, Wi. Staff was nice informative and seemed patient except for the fact that I was told my tires on my checkpoint must have its tires inflated to 80 psi? I was surprised to hear it but, oh well. Just wanted to say how much I love this shop, I've come in here on separate occasions with an e-bike, which I know is not their specialty. Bought a side mirror for my bike for a relatively cheap bike and they installed it and even adjusted my brakes for me with no additional cost. As I live around the corner I will stop in here for any issues with my bike. I also love their a la carte repair menu. I should be coming in in a few weeks for a tune-up as I'm having more issues with my brakes and throttle. Not sure they can help with throttle becausedon't they dont really specialize in e-bike but ill give it a try. read more

NOW KNOWN AS OSWEGO CYCLERY When a need for a bicycle surfaced recently, we looked into different places but decided to try Oswego Cyclery. I thought it was important to support a private and locally owned business, even though we would likely pay a little more. That we did! Cost issues aside, the service we received from Oswego Cyclery was outstanding. We had a couple of sales people who were very knowledgeable and courteous, two things we knew we wouldn't get at a local department store chain! They two men helped us select just the right bicycle that fit our needs and our budget. They were more interested in us getting the right bike than they were padding their cash register with our money. I appreciated that. As for cost, you can definitely find other stores who sell bicycles for less. If price is your only concern, you will probably not want to come here. It's been years since I bought a good quality adult-sized bike. The bike we ended up buying (a girls mountain bike) was on the low end of the price scale and the bike, a helmet and tax brought the total to nearly $400. I was surprised by the cost. As bikes go, we thought that was a lot of money but this store has bikes that run well into the thousands. The store also does many of their own repairs on site, which was important to us and their products and work also come with a warranty, also important. The selection is huge considering the small overall size of the store. We have been very pleased with our purchase and when it's time for a bike for me, I know where I will go to get it. I know I'll pay a little more for it, but I'm sure it will last and I'll have the satisfaction of knowing I supported a locally owned business in the process. read more

Fantastic customer service. Brought my bike in for a flat last weekend. Oswego Cyclery replaced the tube for me in no time. Unfortunately, I got another flat immediately afterward, while on the trail and didn't have a pump with me. (No fault of the bike shop. I think I just have a bad wheel). I called and they picked me up, five miles out from my vehicle, and brought me back to the shop for another repair. They earned a lifelong customer that day. We have been using Oswego Cyclery for many years. They carry quality bikes and the service is super. Over the years we have purchased many many bikes as our three kids have grown fast. I recommend getting tune ups yearly for the older bikes and they do a great job with those. They also make delivery and pickups available if you ask. Super convenient! Oswego Cyclery - Looks like the name changed well over a year ago. Did the shop get new ownership? Last time I was here was in 2011 when I needed a tube replaced. It was during the day and the shop got it fixed within 10 minutes. I imagine most people don't visit bike shops during the workday, so I definitely timed it well. My most recent experience was today when I went in looking for a new bike. Nate helped me out and was super helpful. I've been eyeing some of the 2013 closeout Treks and he walked me through the different models. He also suggested taking a look at some of the other brands, like Giant, given that Cannondale and Trek have Giant build some of their lower end models. You can definitely get a better buy if there isn't a design feature you're looking for or if you're looking for a starter road bike. I appreciated not being up-sold on a higher end model and getting the real deal. I say this shop is a-ok because it doesn't look like they have a large selection of bikes in store. Could be the end of the season, or that they simply focus on making their money through services. The shop also has a limited selection of biking gear. Did I miss where the helmets are located? Didn't seem like much of a section of those or of other gear. Visit for service and the knowledge of the technicians. I'll plan to visit again next spring to check out their spread of 2014 models. read more

I've bought 2 bikes from these guys. Wonderful staff that is very knowledgeable. They let you take the bikes on a pretty nice test drive. They really want to put you on a bike that is right for you. Bottom Line: Which is better, a sale at a lower margin and a happy customer or no sale at no margin and this review. Two years ago I had two bikes tuned up at their shop. It was recommended that we replace the chains on both bikes because they were eight years old. I took their advice and had them replaced. How less than two years later both of the chains have broken. When the first one broke last year, I said WOW, never had that happen and I went back to their shop and bought a new chain. How the chain on the other bike that they replaced two years ago has broken. I went back to the shop today and explained the situation. I was told, that's unusual to have two chains break, maybe they were from a bad batch from the vendor. I told the salesman that wanted to buy two new chains so I could keep one as a spare. I ask, since both of the original chains broke was there anything they could do for me on the price of the two new chains, The young man behind the counter said "No "my margin is to low to do anything for you, Also this replacement chain may be too long so you will need this tool, an additional $18.95. I told him I will go some where else to make the purchase. read more

While visiting over the Memorial Day weekend, I was planning on riding my bike on the trails of Oswego. Unfortunately, my bike was not in the best of shape after 2 years in storage. Luckily I came across Oswego Cyclery. I could not be more impressed with the quality of service, and shape they left my bike in. The people are nice enough, but I was dealing with a guy who was not much help at all. I kind of told him what I was looking for, and he seemed very unsure of what to show me. I basically ended up going to the bike I had walked in to see. They just moved to a new location which its nicer than the old place. Biggest problem is they have no inventory, that is to say unless you are 5'10" or taller. I needed a 16.5 inch frame to test ride, and they had absolutely nothing in that size, in any bike. The closest was a 18.5 and they was to big in the style bike I was looking at. I am5'7'' , pretty average I think, just a shame I can't even test a bike. They offered to order a bike in that size so I could test ride, which was nice, but what if I didn't like it, I basically would have to start over. Hopefully once they are settled in, they will have a better inventory and selection. read more

Dropped off a part for a simple repair that was taking longer than expected called about it and was told by a certain day maybe but by a later date for sure. Both dates came and went and still no call. I called THEM again and low & behold they said "oh it's done". I recently visited Oswego Cyclery on a recommendation I received about a brand of performance socks that they have there. Normally, I would have no interest in performance socks, I would just buy the cheapest ones I could find, they are afterall, just socks. Since I am participating in the Susan G. Komen 3Day/60 Mile Breast Cancer walk coming up on August 5-7, and I am absolutely fearful of blisters, I decided to check them out. Boy am I glad I did! Art, Joanie and the rest of the staff at Oswego Cyclery are wonderful, friendly people. I informed them about my breast cancer walk and about the performance socks. I, jokingly, asked if they would want to sponsor me by donating a pair of running shoes. Their response? "Yeah, we can do that." So now I am training in a great pair of running shoes, (and super comfy performance socks,) and I have a cool Oswego Cyclery t-shirt to wear during my walk. I get blister-free feet, they get advertising and the opportunity to support a great cause, it's win-win. The down-to-earth, warm hospitality I received from them was so refreshing. The mechanics have been great. I have a full suspension moutian bike that I'm on each weekend. Last summer I had a brake failure and frame problem. Both times they diagnosed my problems on the Monday I dropped it off, parts by Tuesday or Wednesday and back on the trail before the end of the week. Just visited this store for the first time. My fiancé and kids brought me to pick out a bike for Mother's Day. We were in the store for about 15-20 minutes without anybody acknowledging us. We were going to buy a $500 bike for myself and some new bikes for my 2 kids (probably about $200 each!) There was only one more person shopping in the store so it's not like it was busy.
