    My bike rental!

    WHEN: Sat @10am PARKING: They actually have a small lot in the back! Came here right at opening time to pick up my bike rental for the (half) Century Ride happening the next day. I think because I ride a hybrid, renting one was easy. If you are looking to rent a road bike, those get sold out super fast! So here's my rental: 3-Day Rental - $50 They set me up with a XXS Hybrid bike that included a tire kit! How cool is that? I also get a lock and helmet, which I opted out of. Oh and one note, all sale items are final. No refunds! The staff is super helpful and friendly, and my rental was super easy and convenient!

    I just want to take the time to thank Carl, Nicolai, and the team at the Bike Shop. I came in this morning to get my rear tire replaced after it had gotten stolen last night. And, being that it is use for my daily commute, you can imagine how disheartened and frustrated I was when it happened. When I came in today, Carl, immediately took my bike in to be serviced without any hesitation or complaint. Once in the back, Nicholai, went out of his way to ensure that the bike would be up and running again, and again with no hesitation or complaint. Carl even recommended a tire lock to prevent this from happening again, which I gladly agreed to purchase. Nicholai, installed them right away, even after the fact that he had just fixed and assembled it; again, with no hesitation or complaint, and took the time to show me how the lock works and its effectiveness in deterring theft. And so, I just want to say, "Thank you, sincerely!" for going out of your way to accommodate me today. No one likes to have their things stolen or tampered with, especially something that is used daily to get to and from work and around town for appointments and errands. Their professionalism, knowledge, service, kindness, and willingness to help really meant a lot; which is why I wanted to take this time to share my experience.

    I've been to The Bike Shop many times, whether to pick up a bike accessories or to just check out the bikes. Being a locally owned since 1970 they sell all types of bikes, scooters, related accessories, parts and even bike rentals. They also support a lot of bike events and even have a mechanic van or station during these events. This time I came here to fix a nagging problem on my bike. Knowing that they have excellent repair mechanics with years of experience I knew they would figure it out. Sure enough after dropping it off I get a call the next day saying my bike is done. I really appreciate the great service and expertise that The Bike Shop employees give. I'll be back again to give them more business. Support Local.

    My cable frayed and jammed. The result was no rear derailleur movement and so I rode 25 miles on 2 gears (big ring and little ring) until I got to theBike Shop. Scott and Co. Immediately went to work and changed out my bad cable for a new one and I was back on my ride in 20 minutes. Thanks, guys!

    Ive been looking for a BMX crusier for awhile now. Wanted an alternative for exercising. Went to the other bike shops on the island. Saw and rode their "in" BMX bikes they have now. I wasnt impressed and thought those bikes were overrated. (I used to race bmx back in the 80s) When the Aiea location was called "The Great Outdoors". When legend local BMX racers John Llacuna and Kevin Sano used to work there. Anyway, this location is where they had the last RedLine 26" BMX crusier. And i wanted to test ride it. Of course the bike didnt disappoint. In fact i was so happy i bought it. As for customer service. I forget his name but he was haole, nice guy. But it was a easy sale. I knew what i wanted and bought it. The shop itself is small. This was my first time at this location and i passed it lol! So i had to go around and try again. Then i saw the green wall and sign. Parking is in the back (follow the arrows) parking lot is small but its not crazy busy so you'll be ok. Not much more i can say. I got what i wanted and im happy.

    After searching around and calling a few shops to rent both a road bike for an experienced cyclist and an e-bike for a newbie, we finally found what we needed at the bike shop. The bikes were needed for a ride from ala moana to Kaneohe to visit the beautiful hoomaluhia botanical gardens, and then through Kailua, Waimanalo, Hawaii Kai, Kahala and back through Waikiki to the store on King st. TLDR: -5 stars for customer service from John (assistant manager) -4 stars for the equipment (bikes, helmet, bike rack) although we had an issue with the charger for the ebike -1 star for the shop manager and unknown employee we called regarding an issue Detail: Rented the bikes at 4pm on a weekday and John talked my husband and his friend through various rental options, routes, etc. The required deposit was $1,500 and the e-bike rental was the most expensive part. The bike rack was only $6 to rent but it was pretty basic. According to my husband, the e-bike was super helpful assisting specifically on inclines. However, we were told the charge would not hold for the entire planned route so we intended to charge it at a half-way point. We followed the cyclists in a car with all their gear just in case, and thank goodness we did! When they tried to charge the ebike they had issues holding the charge. They plugged and unplugged it into the bike, moved it around, even called the shop to get some tips but was only told to bring it back to the shop. So after holding the charger in place manually for a while, we realized something wasn't right that we couldn't fix on our own. The charge left wasn't enough to finish the route so we put it on the car rack and drove back to the shop, cutting the plan short by over half. When arriving at the shop, we returned all the gear and shared our experience with the shop manager. He tested the charger and it didn't work the first time. He fiddled with it and said it was working. My friends asked due to the experience we had and the employee on the phone not being able to assist, is there anything they could do in terms of reimbursement or a small discount since it was an expensive rental. The shop manager was unsympathetic and said the release forms they signed stated they knew how to operate and repair a bike so it's no fault of theirs. He said the best he could do is refund the $6 fee for the bike rack but he didn't end up doing anything at all and again had a very dismissive tone. We also asked for a receipt of the $1,500 deposit refund and he said there is no receipt so we'd have to check that it was processed in a few days. The customer service experience with him left us feeling very disappointed and upset mainly at the lack of empathy and accountability in the earlier call where they couldn't offer any advice or help with figuring out the charger and told us just to bring everything back. However, on the drive leaving the store, John called us to apologize for the experience, express empathy, thank us for our patronage, and offered further assistance. He even said they appreciate all feedback and reviews, positive or negative which is why I'm writing this lengthy review. Ultimately, would we consider renting here again or recommending it to a friend? Yes with a big BUT. BUT, we'd want to offer our patronage to John who demonstrating outstanding customer service. We are young adults and he's our junior not too many years out of high school, but the maturity and level of customer service he demonstrated was above and beyond. We are working professionals at major companies known for outstanding service and would hire him in a heartbeat. Kudos to John! I also appreciated the free parking stalls in the back, staff wore face masks and had lots of hand sanitizer around.

    3.5 to be exact! The day we got our half-bikes bandit immediately call them for an appointment. It all goes smoothly & the transaction is pretty good with a reasonable price. By far people working there are pretty friendly too. Great right?! The next day we came back to pick-up our assembled half-bikes and is ready to use. Purchased few items for ourselves to get prepared riding our brand new half-bikes. That 1st transaction was pretty dang smooth. Last Monday we went back to purchase additional items we need for our half-bikes. And we totally understand that since it's pandemic & the island is under strict supervision, certain rules & etc is posted. Okay we get it. Five (5) person at a time. Waited for a couple of minutes but still nobody wants to go out! Okay, so I tried counting those customer inside & then was surprised that they're not even 5 customer inside. They only got THREE (3) customer at that time! No one even bother to go out and explain what's happening! The staff just don't care. They don't care for us even though we almost waited for 20mins. outside under the raging sun! Great people ayt! Great staffs! It's okay. They don't need money from us. They don't want business with other people. And meanwhile here we are, ready to make transaction with them again. But no, they don't bother at least talk to us of what's going on. Sorry, but from now on, we won't waste our time to local business like this that don't care other costumers. Anyhow, I good luck to this bike shop & hopefully you'll be able to clarify the instructions or current policy you guys have to the customers to avoid wasting everybody's time.     Yes, as long as the car you rent will fit the rack. For example, a van or SUV may not accommodate the rack because of the vertical surface. I believe it is an additional $5/day charge.

    So I damaged my rear carbon fiber Reserve wheel. I called up reserve to see about a warranty…read morereplacement. I took a photo and they sent out a replacement but it needed to be built using my old hub. So they had me go to a local Cervelo dealer with a claim number that would bill them for the labor. I sent Boca a note and the owner got back to me quickly saying that he had two great in house wheel builders. Perfect. So I went to drop off my wheel on a Saturday. The guy at the counter seemed confused because I was doing warranty work on a wheel not purchased at Boca. So I explained to him Reserve is a Cervelo brand. And Reserve gave me a claim number they could input in their computer to have the labor paid for since I supplied all the parts. He still seemed a bit uncertain but he took the wheels (new and damaged). I filled out a slip but didn't receive a receipt, which made me a little uneasy since this was my first time in the store. He said 2-4 days. Not hearing from Boca, I called the following Friday. The guy who answered had no idea what I was talking about and just said it would be another couple of days. So I'm legit worried now. I emailed Boca again just to ensure I did everything right (no response this time). But I get a call back later that day from Boca--I guess the guy went into the back to look for my wheel or whatever--and he's like they're just waiting on Cervelo to give them the ok to do the claim so that their builder gets paid. I was like Reserve gave me a claim number and I wrote it on the slip I had to fill out (and in my email). The next Tuesday/Wednesday, I receive a call from Boca saying the wheel was ready for pickup. So a week and a half versus the 2-4 days I was originally promised. I'm sure the delay had everything to do with the whole claim system or whatever for the labor cost. But I'm out riding again. The wheel feels great so far. I have zero complaints. I think the builder did a great job and I'm glad they were able to sort out whatever they needed to so I could get back on the road. If I was in the market for a Cervelo, I'd definitely give Boca my business. Mostly pleasant experience. But I would have preferred to get some sort of receipt when I dropped off my wheels initially.

Zero callbacks or updates on my repairs and parts that I'm waiting on. Not these guys! OMG! I brought my bike in with a part to install. I had to order the part myself because the other shop never called me to let me know that it was back ordered until September and I had a look somewhere else. I found that out by calling the manufacturer myself. I dropped this off and they told me it would take 72 hours to repair and they called me back in 24 hours and said it was done! Cole would be the only reason I would buy anything in that store because he was so helpful & kind- like he really wanted me to find what I was looking for. THANK YOU TO COLE!     A few things: 1.)…read moredropped off two bikes for tune ups because they had been sitting for a while. Ended up getting new chains and two bikes that weren't even wiped off. Replaced the tires at my request but didn't even run a rag over the rims. Left them covered in whatever the elements had placed on them. I had to call several times to get updates because THEY NEVER CALL TO UPDATE YOU! Once I was even told the bikes were ready so I drove up there and the bikes weren't even close to being ready. Went back twice more before they finally finished. 2.) need a replacement part to be ordered and installed. They said it could take 2-3 weeks for the part to get here. That was over a month ago. Have I gotten a status update call? Not one! I called once and they just said it's not here yet. I contacted Trek directly and they said the part I need won't be available until September. That sure would have been nice to know from the dealer. Their customer service in that regard has been terrible. 3.) during a visit to the shop, I was standing at the counter by the service area in the back. Right on top of that counter, in full view of all customers, was a small black case, a tool set probably, with a piece of paper taped to it, about half the size of a notebook sheet, with the words "No F@*s! (Non-mechanics) written on it clear as day. Extremely unprofessional and disgusting that language like that is used and accepted within their staff.
