Didn't bother to ask me a single question about what or why I was looking for. I can only speculate as to what the sales/service model is here. Clearly I'm not fitting into it. I decided to take a trip from…read moreAnacortes over to Orcas Island on my personal E-bike to ride the island and up Constitution Mountain. About 2 miles from the top of Constitution, my motor seized up and I was in a really tight spot. I coasted back down to the campground and started putting water on the hub to cool it down, but it was already shot. The problem was, I was solo and didn't know anybody on the island. I called multiple businesses and taxis, but no pick up or responses. I left a message with Wildlife Cycles, thinking they may have a solution for a way to get my E-bike and I back to the ferry terminal, which was about 16 miles away. Hell, the closest hotel was in East Sound, a couple of hours walking a bike on a narrow road. With the sun getting lower on the horizon, my last resort was hitchhiking, to which a lovely local couple, and fellow bike riders, picked me up and gave me a ride all the way back to the ferry terminal. Within that time, Wildlife Cycles texted me back!!! Mind you they were the only response that I got from the entire island. The gentleman explained that he was off island, but asked me what my current situation was and what my plans were. I informed him about the ride I had got and how I no longer needed his assistance. Think about it, I didn't do any business with Wildlife Cycles, as I had my own E-bike, but yet they still reached out to help a bicyclist in need. I have no doubt if I still needed a ride, they would have 100% figured out a way. This small interaction speaks VOLUMES about how they run their business and who they employ. I recently purchased a helmet and thought I had already signed up for the welcome discount code. After I completed my order and looked at my receipt, I realized the discount hadn't been applied. My first thought was, "Oh shoot, I forgot to enter the code." That also made me wonder whether I had actually completed the sign-up, so I immediately signed up for the welcome offer. I looked for an option to cancel and reorder my purchase, but there wasn't one available. Since I acted right away, I reached out through the chat to see if the discount could be applied or if there was another solution. Sam responded by email and simply stated that the discount couldn't be applied retroactively. While I understand that companies have policies, I was disappointed by the lack of flexibility or effort to help. I wasn't trying to misuse the promotion--I made an honest mistake and contacted customer service almost immediately after placing my order. Life gets busy, and sometimes things slip through the cracks. I was juggling personal and family responsibilities at the time, and I simply forgot to enter the code before checking out. I was hoping for a little understanding and customer-focused service, especially as someone trying to make my first purchase with the company. Bought a bike today for my goddaughter. I was on a mission to get it done today as I needed to…read moretrek all the way from Vancouver, under a tight work schedule. First stop was Trek Bicycle on Westwood Street. No stocks available, and they seemed too busy to answer questions. Hmm...that kinda layback and hipster attitude seemed far too familiar as I'm in the coffee business for 20+ years. Then we rushed over to Kinetik Cycles. Sales person seemed way too passive, and when we were shown a couple choices (my goddaughter needs a small or an extra-small frame), not much help was given about the seat height adjustments. I understand that the Kona we first tried was built a certain way where the seat stem was way too long for a small frame. The minimum seat height was so tall that it defeated the purpose of calling it "size small". We asked how we could make it possible to accommodate the height so my goddaughter could do a proper test ride. (Of course I know of a solution...just find a shorter seat stem and substitute it for a few minutes worth of test ride)...Nothing from the sales person, just a shrug of the shoulders, and followed by "if you buy the bike, we will saw the seat stem short for you". The more senior looking person behind the counter didn't offer any help as well. So basically it's like take it (for a spin) or leave it situation. I was seriously not impressed but as I mentioned earlier, I was on a mission to get a bike today. We've finally decided on a Devinci. Next, I asked about bike lock choices, and I forgot the brand I've recently bought (ARBUS...I later recalled). So I described the lock as metal plates folded together kinda lock. The sales rep said they do not carry such style, except u-shapes, and chains. As I proceeded to pay for the bicycle, helmet, and gloves I realized the ARBUS locks were just stacked in boxes, right next to the other locks. So after this long story, I guess one can comprehend how lay back and unenthusiastic the service was. And I'm about to make a point here...Kinetik Cycles, you've dropped the ball. I could have bought the second bicycle for myself on the same visit, but I've made up my mind to make that purchase somewhere else on my way back to Vancouver the same day. Please refer to the enclosed receipts...one purchase from Kinetik Cycle (which I reluctantly went through due to a tight time window), one purchase from Rad Cycle on Fraser and Broadway (very pleasant experience from real people working, and providing real service and advise at a greasy and not very rich looking shop). Not going back for more hipster attitude.

Let me tell you a story about how Seth saved me from a dumb dad move and thereby saved my weekend -…read more Busy weekend out on the island with the fam, lots of hustle and bustle - in the midst of a couple days where it feels like nothing is going quite right on the family front. Looking to turn things around, I decide to install the kid seat on the back of my wife's bike for our 2 y.o. so we can do the ol' family bike ride (that'll fix it!). In a moment of overzealousness though, I give that over-tight, cheap screw in the back of her bike a turn-too-many with the allen wrench: it's stripped, but maybe salvageable. But what do I do? I think, "I can still get it...." So I jump back in there: cheap screw vs. cheap allen wrench, and I send that screw straight to The Land of No Return. It's never coming out now. Enter Seth and Meat Machine. Now, mind you, I had already been down there the day before - or my wife had - for another bike-related issue (I told you - it was that kind of weekend). So, I limp in there, figuratively speaking, and in my shame I present El Strippo to Seth. What does he do? He doesn't make my feel bad. He doesn't hesitate. Immediately, almost un-questioningly, he throws that bad boy up on the lift. He explains that this is not going to be easy and expresses concern that he'll break the head off the screw and then it's done (the seat is never going on in that case). He tries one expensive hex after another. No dice. Last resort: he busts out the blow torch. "Let's put a little heat on it." And he does, and, like magic, that baby starts to move! With the turning of the screw, hearts lift, hope returns - the screw it out. The day - the family bike ride - is saved. No charge. I headed outside and, literally, the clouds cleared (though I'm not sure I credit Seth with that one). But he and Meat Machine did save the day, no doubt. Great little shop. Friendly helpful guys.
