The folks at the Wild Horse Inn used to run Solstice as a kinda pop-up restaurant in Fraser next to the Safeway in the winter when they weren't catering weddings and events during the summers. But then the Fanches who own Devil's Thumb bought the Inn owners out for over $3 mill a while back when they were on their way to buying up the whole county. So what happened to Solstice? Well, for a fraction of that price some sweet hard-workin' folks bought the Wild Horse catering business and . . . wait for it . . . yes . . . Solstice. Now (sweet) Sue and her partner have just started running Solstice as a full-time restaurant and boy does it rock. The place only seats around 25 people, but it'll be worth the wait (once everyone comes to understand that the place is now regularly open all the time this place is going to be jammed!). This new policy just started a couple/three weeks ago so when we came in last night the room was lightly used and we had a chance to visit with Sue, who's about one of the kindest best bartenders/servers/owners ever. We decided to make dinner out of five of their tapas offerings, starting with a super fresh and delicious salad, and followed by their smoked salmon crostini, dates with (spicy!) capicola skewers, ridiculously delicious scallops, and a really savory "burnt ends" dish of pork belly bites and crispy(!) mini-ravioli. Can't believe we had room for dessert, but the flourless chocolate tart with homemade whipped cream and raspberry preserve sauce was something we couldn't resist. (Next time I'm coming for you Mr. Key Lime pie:). All in all, a truly fine dining experience at a reasonable price point. So the bottom line is that this is great news for Grand County: the addition of a wonderful new restaurant serving really excellent food right in the heart of Fraser! 2

The bartenders were fast & friendly and kept up with the crowd. Only been there once, but I'd say [during the time I was there - late evening] it was much more of a live music venue. On the second visit, I went early at 4PM and ordered carryout. AND a margarita while I waited! The margarita is simple, the perfect size and made with all fresh ingredients. It rivals more notable ones around town. This time, they had ALL the burnt ends and boy, were they worth the wait! I got a one meat platter with burnt ends, collards and Mac n cheese. My husband got a two meat platter with burnt ends, brisket, beans and slaw. We got KC and Texas sauces (they have 5 or 6 to choose from, all inspired by different BBQ regions in the US). Both platters came with cornbread which is the only thing that needs some work IMHO. It's small, dry and not worthy of the calories. But EVERYTHING else was soooo good! Fatty, juicy, flavorful meats. Balanced sauces. And delicious sides! The Mac, collards and beans get an A+, the slaw is a solid B. Service was great on both visits. Friendly, efficient and fast! That part alone earned the review. What happened next is where it goes from bad to embarrassing. Within a day of posting that review, two of their employees, people who have never done business with my company, decided the appropriate response was to go leave fake negative reviews on my business, McAfee Electric. Not a misunderstanding. Not a coincidence. Straight retaliation. So I updated my review with screenshots showing exactly what they did and reached out to management multiple times to give them a chance to fix it. Instead of addressing it, they doubled down. I was told my review was "emotionally based" and that I should be ashamed for including screenshots that show their employees' names and the reviews they chose to post publicly. Think about that for a second. Their employees publicly post fake reviews, and somehow I am the problem for documenting it. That tells you everything you need to know about how this place operates. Bad service is one thing. Every business has an off day. But retaliating against a customer's livelihood and then trying to spin it as the customer being "emotional" is next level unprofessional. If this is how they handle criticism, imagine how they handle anything that actually matters. Plenty of places in Winter Park that know how to run a restaurant and act like professionals. This is not one of them.
