Delicious weeknight dinner at Volario's! We started with focaccia that was fluffy and amazing, and the Italian Fall cocktail was outstanding. We ordered the bolognese and the mushroom pappardelle for dinner and they were also awesome! Service was very good--lots of great recommendations and prompt, friendly refills and updates. They must have really paid attention to their customers bc we had two servers helping us out through the night (not in an annoying way). Not a great experience overall. We were greeted by multiple staff members, which made it unclear who our actual server was and led to a lack of continuity throughout the meal. When our food arrived, part of my husband's steak was accidentally dropped onto my daughter's lap. The staff did apologize, replaced the portion of the steak, and offered 50% off the item, which we appreciated. However, my daughter is a vegetarian, and her clothes were stained with steak juice, which understandably dampened the experience. After that, service continued to feel disorganized. We had to ask for plates so my daughter and I could share a lasagna we had intentionally ordered to split, and then request forks after ours were cleared following the appetizers. I was also never checked on regarding a second glass of wine. Overall, even setting aside the incident with the steak, the service and attention to detail didn't match the level of quality or class we were expecting. read more

First I want to start with that the food was good. However, the service was horrible. Our server came to our table maybe once the whole night. We also waited ONE HOUR from when we ordered our entrees to when we got our food. We had a later reservation, so there weren't a whole lot of other tables. I'm usually a pretty understanding guy, but the service was just bad. At least come to the table every now and then and ask how everything is, or give us updates. The menu has mushrooms throughout on items that do not appear to (e.g., lasagna). Wow - I thought I was back in Philadelphia eating this divine meal. It was 99% perfect from beginning to end. We had the arancini and fennel and arugula salad to start. Both were superb, and we were sorely temped to get another order of arancini but wanted to have room for entrees. For the main course, we had fungo pizza and the mafalde bolognese. The latter was delightful, and the pizza was very good but I would have liked a few more fungo and a little spice as it was a bit bland. We had to try the cannoli with pistachio gelato for dessert and I'm so glad we didn't skip it. I'd consider driving to winter park just for another shot at that dessert. Drinks were pretty good, though the limoncello margarita had more ice than liquid, which is annoying at $14 a pop. Decent ambiance, good service. read more

I hate writing bad reviews but the way we were treated by the host & manager when we first arrived was insane. We walked in and put our name down, they told us they were just pushing tables together & it'd be 10 minutes so we sat down to wait. Then, 10 min later, the host asked us what we were waiting for and we reminded her. The manager came out and said "we've never seen you or talked to you before. We didn't say we had a table for you," and dismissed us? It was just so odd for her to completely disregard us and claim we must've heard her wrong. My parents, my small child and I were in Winter Park for the first time and stumbled into Volario's early on a Friday. Little did we know we were arriving at what would soon become one of our favorite restaurants in all of Colorado. From the moment we arrived, the hostess was gracious and funny, bantering with my Dad. Our servers Kirby and Mithu were incredibly friendly and engaging with my 1-year old with fist bumps and constantly picking up his crayons he intentionally dropped, and immediately we felt at home. Then we ordered -- my gosh, literally *each dish* we ordered was spectacular. From the gnocchi with a lovely pesto, to the handmade bucatini carbonara (which, unlike most Italian restaurants in the US, was ACTUALLY served beautifully al dente), to the -- wait for it -- 72-hour fermented crust pizza with mushrooms and unbelievably sweet caramelized onions. I'm not exaggerating when I say this pizza is one of my 4 or 5 favorite in the entire country, and on par with my favorite spot in the NY/NJ metro area. After our meal, the manager David welcomed us back into the kitchen to thank the chefs and cooking staff in person. The meal was so spectacular, we came back a week later with my wife for her 40th birthday. She was skeptical when we were talking it up, and we then were treated to an even more incredible experience with Swapnil taking exceptional care of us (including making a batch of his special calabrian chile honey aioli!). We had such an amazing time, my wife wanted to return the next night again! I've lived in the Denver metro area for over a decade, and Volario's is honestly among my top 3 restaurants in the state. We may even contemplate a quick trip up to WP just to celebrate date night. While I have never written a poor review before, I was really disappointed by my meal and experience at Volario's. If you are celebrating something special, as I was, I advice you go elsewhere. My boyfriend and I got a reservation at Volarios for our 6th anniversary, which I put in the reservation. However at no point during our meal did anyone address that it was our anniversary or ask if we were celebrating anything special. The ambiance is lovely and it smelled amazing, and because we came hungry, we were really looking forward to our meal, but I wish we had eaten something small beforehand because we ended up waiting around 40 minutes for our appetizer, the broccolini. I will say this dish was incredible, but it was the single highlight of the meal because when our entrees arrived, my boyfriends pizza was an oily mess and my mushroom pappardelle, which I ordered as I read it was one of their specialties, was very under salted. My boyfriend and I waited for around 20 minutes for our water to be refilled and I ended up asking for it twice before water finally arrived. We had been looking forward to dessert, but by the time they asked us if we wanted to look at the dessert menu, we both just wanted to get out of there. Ran down the good stuff for us as this was our first trip. Started with charcuterie board. Very good! Not a crumb left! Gluten free pizza was approved by its owner. 12-layer lasagna was a hit flavor wise, but a bit underwhelming. We were (selfishly) expecting a better presentation. I had the meatballs as a main course. Absolutely delicious! The sauce had just a bit of spice to it. Would order again. Desert was lemon crème brûlée. A great finish. Pace of service was a bit off (we had to ask for water refills - twice). But the food was the star. The dining room is busy, but did not feel crowded. Noise level was just fine. My husband and I walked in on a busy Saturday evening without reservation and they were able to rearrange the tables and get us in within 15 mins. Our waitress was extremely attentive and the food was incredibly delicious. I'm extremely impressed with the pasta, pizza, and eggplant appetizer. The restaurant itself provides a warm and cozy environment. The open kitchen is always a green flag. They completely forgot the mushrooms on my mushroom risotto and by the time they had gotten new ones my husbands pasta was ice cold. FLAVOR. We tried adding salt, then Italian spices, then fresh grated Parmesan; nope, lost cause. Butter, not a "sauce", just butter. And to be blunt, I make a better buttered noodles at home. It needs a mushroom sauce. Cook the mushrooms IN the butter, add a touch of cream and some herbs (parsley would be my suggestion) and a touch of shallot. It would have been great... sure, if you want to offer me a job designing your food, I'll do it n the side! ;-) - Tiramisu : WOW that was soggy... and flavorless. Probably because it was so soggy. I've easily eaten over 100 different Tiramisu around the US and in Italy... this was a good tie for the worst. For only 1 reason... it was WET, SOGGY and had very little flavor. I suspect if it wasnt so soggy it might have been pretty darn good because visually it looked great - all the right stuff in all the right places. If you like quality Italian food, this is NOT the place for you. I was pulled in by the reviews which said they offered handmade pasta. I think the only pasta we ordered that was probably home made was the gnocchi. All pasta dishes were very bland. I ordered the clam pasta in wine sauce. When it arrived the pasta was swimming in clam broth.. maybe it was my bad for ordering this dish, the waiters response was "yeah that's how it's supposed to be, have you had clam pasta before?". Sorry the clam pastas I've had actually had flavor and didn't taste like just plain noodles in clam broth. I ended up getting it switched for their lasagna bolognese which also left me very underwhelmed. I didn't personally pay for this meal, but I felt scammed nonetheless. The only good thing I can say is that they had a nice ambiance.. I'd recommend this place for drinks and possibly dessert but skip the pasta. read more
