For all the years I lived in Petoskey, I never knew this place existed. I was really missing out! I've started going to this place with my in-laws for lunch and it's always very good. HORRIBLE SERVICE! Literally the worst service I've gotten in my life. First, we stood in the doorway for about 5-10 mins without any acknowledgement. It was busy so we figured ok let's just sit at the counter, no problem. We sit down and then proceeded to barked at by the rudest waitress in the history of the food service industry. We asked politely for our drinks and she continued to bark at us, clearly furious that we didn't know our orders immediately. We ended up finding somewhere else to eat and promptly left. We stopped in during a vacation we were having at Boyne Mountain Resort. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive. We never had to ask for refills, the food came out in about 5-10 minutes which for 5 breakfasts is very good, and the quality was very high. I had the Ham and Cheese Omelette and toast and it was done perfectly. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good breakfast. read more

Always a great breakfast here! Eggs andcooked to perfection and a variety of specials. Didn't have any problems getting coffee refills. The corned beef hash was amazing and unlike any other I have had. Gingerbread pancakes with vanilla custard were also delicious. This place has a nice small town diner feel...nothing fancy but will definitely not disappoint. Good place for kids too with a kids menu, toy basket, and kids drink cups with crazy straws. Only downside is that they do not take debit or credit...cash or check only. read more

Just had the Eggs Benedict Florentine - great. This is a small local breakfast and lunch place, nothing out of the ordinary except for good food, quick delivery, and smiling service. It's off the beaten path for the tourists so you can usually get a table right away, and there's plenty of parking close by. I'll be back! read more

We had breakfast here on a Sunday after church so it was crowded. My husband had an omelet with a side of ham. I had the cinnamon roll pancakes with homemade vanilla glaze instead of syrup. We both enjoyed our meal a great deal and our sever was extremely friendly. We would definitely go back. read more

Ok, seriously, this place takes me back. Not to a good place, I'm afraid. To a place where menu options appear to be extremely limited and personal checks are favored instead of credit cards (yes, they don't accept credit cards). Honestly, if I were to find a place worse than the bistro, I would probably have to file a lawsuit for reckless endangerment, because the food would have to be so horrible I'd probably have to hurt someone. First off, make sure you ask for hash browns, unlike every other place, this one doesn't include it with your meal. Secondly, make sure you speak up when they forget to ask if you'd like bacon or sausage, otherwise they'll make the decision for you. And if you don't find someone you like from the 3 breakfast menu options they offer, feel free to leave. Seriously. Go. There are a million better breakfast places in Petoskey. Don't lower your standards. If I wanted tasteless eggs with old fruits, I'd ask my dog to make me breakfast. And at least he'd probably take credit card. read more

Service was completely amazing. Hubby had eggs cooked perfectly and the wheat toast was made on site. I had the asparagus omelet with swiss cheese which was beyond incredible. The most tender young asparagus I've ever had. Definitely will be back! read more

Nice simple diner. Feels like a place locals would go to. Quick, friendly service on a Saturday morning. I had the French Toast and it was delicious. Just wish there were a couple more slices because they were fairly small. Inexpensive as well, but they only take cash. I'd come here again. read more

I work in hospitality myself and understand how demanding a busy full room of patrons can be when short staffed. I have NEVER used this as a crutch to take out my frustrations on a guest however. Especially if that person is asking to leave because an elderly woman is too ashamed of her afflictions to be accosted by the public eye. This lack of compassion and downright tactlessness turned my stomach. Though the food was perfectly made I don't think I will ever return--it left too bad of a taste in my mouth. :( I dined at the Bistro this afternoon following a church service I attended with my mother and an elderly woman with Parkinson's Disease that she takes care of. This was my first time at the restaurant and was rather excited as it had that homey diner feel which is hard to come by in this modern age. The restaurant was extremely packed so I was prepared for a bit of a wait--which was not a problem. Just as we were deciding to order the elderly woman's Parkinson's was getting quite bad so they decided to take a short walk to see if that would help while I stayed back to order. After quite a bit (and with some coaxing from another waitress as she still had not come to our table) the waitress took our orders. I let her know whose food would be what as the other two ladies at my table had left. Just a couple of minutes after this my mother came back in saying that Sally (the elderly woman) was too embarrassed to come back in because she was shaking so badly. My mother decided to cancel hers and Sally's order so she could take her home and I told her I would be fine to eat alone and read a book. So my mother headed up to the cash register to speak with the waitress. A moment later my mother came back to the table where I was sitting with tears in her eyes and a shaky voice saying she is leaving. I asked what the matter was and she said that the waitress just completely humiliated her in front of all these people--barked at her--and made a huge deal about my mother needing to cancel the two orders. Then she left. I was so upset by this all I wanted to do was to talk to a manager but the place was so busy I couldn't even waive my waitress down. At this point my water glass was empty, I was fuming about the way my mother was treated, and just wanted this one small thing of restaurant service to be taken care of. Finally she brings out my food (at which time I still had an empty glass) sets it down--offers some friendly sentence like "here ya go" and begins to walk off. I have to yell over to her as she left my table so quickly "would it be too much trouble if I could get another glass of water?" to which her reply is (yelling over tables mind you as she is still moving away from me) "well there's two glasses sitting right next you", and my reply, "yes both of which have already been drank out of". These were Sally and my mothers water glasses they were drinking before they left. To which she says "oh OK I didn't realize they drank out of them I'll bring you a water." After this I watched her walk by another 4 times delivering food to other tables while I ate my food with no beverage until finally she filled my glass. At this point I told her I wanted to speak to a manager if they had one available. She said yes Paul is here but he's cooking. I said I would like to speak to him just the same and I would wait as I know they were quite busy. She walks off towards the kitchen and comes back a bit later with the $8.43 my mother had paid for my meal, apologizes and says that the manager is just too busy to speak with me but to please come back again. I thanked her for the apology (though it wasn't me she should have been apologizing to), finished my meal, left her tip and walked out the door completely shocked at the lack of concern of such an unhappy patron. The restaurant that I work at goes above and beyond to make sure they're patrons are happy and satisfied--The Perry Hotel that is--but were an historic establishment with years under our belt. I guess that sort of kindness doesn't exist in the 21st century anymore. A warning to all suffering from Parkinson's disease--don't dine at the Bistro--they don't give a rat's ass about you. read more
