This is probably one of the best restaurants in the area. We eat here often and always enjoy our meals. Tonight we had mussels. Escargot, Caesar salad and a wedge salad. Everything was really tasty. Also the Grand Marnier soufflé is a MUST. The service is always good. Recommend any of the fish dishes, you really can't go wrong. It gets busy in the high season so prepare for a wait. read more

This felt like a very old-school up north restaurant with the small dining room and the cottage cheese as a side. The food was outstanding- I found it hard to pick my meal to begin with, but ended up loving my perch, and everyone else had great things to say about their food as well. The service was also a little old-school, and was unfortunately a little stilted, but nice. We also felt a little rushed near the end when the party who was clearly there to take our table arrived and was waiting practically on top of us due to the small nature of the dining room. First of all we have been frequenting this restaurant for 20 pus years. First bad experience. Salads came before we ordered our food. Waiter took salads back and we had washed he left them. Hoping things would get better the waiter delivered the check after we waited 1/2 hr with no water (not exaggerating) and with dirty plates in front of us wanting to order dessert. The food was good. My fiancé and I were in charlevoix for the weekend for the first time. We asked many people where they thought the best dinner spot was and the consensus was terrys place. Boy were they right. Every aspect of our night was perfect. From service, to food, to drinks, I was blown away. Christine was our waitress and she was absolutely incredible - super friendly and made some of the best dirty martinis we'd ever had. I ordered the special, the blackened white fish, and my fiancé got the veal morel. Both of these dishes were beyond incredible. The fish EXPLODED with flavor and the beurre blanc sauce served with it was the perfect match. Easily the best whitefish I've ever had. The veal morel with angel hair was phenomenal. All the flavors and played together so perfectly. The morel mushrooms were an awesome touch. I would eat these meals every week if I could. Just perfect. Terry's Place absolutely blew me away and is hands down one of the best restaurants I have been too! This quaint restaurant is conveniently located in downtown Charlevoix and has the atmosphere of a small family owned restaurant. The staff was super friendly and we were able to quickly sit down without a reservation on a Saturday night (we did go in October which I believe is the off season for this area). We've been coming to Terry's for well over 20 years now. A Charlevoix staple for us. It's one of those places that I know we will have a good meal and see a few familiar faces. Food is always delicious. Husband always orders the white fish grenebois with hash browns and green beans. I usually order the chicken schnitzel or NY Strip, both excellent. Can't say enough great things!! We had excellent service- friendly, informative and quick. Very nice selection on wines and they have a full bar but we stayed with a bottle of wine. As we were visitors I was curious what the price of a bottle was and it's so reasonable! But of course the food is the main star!!! We started with French onion soup. We've spent months in France, had a French friends mom teach us how grandma made onion soup and always try it at other restaurants ending up disappointed. Not the case here. It's as if we were in a French bistro having onion soup. It may sound over exaggerated but really it's not. I was so happy, so excited that I could have ordered more bowls and made it my meal! But we didn't stop there. Our fish came with a nice salad and the house made ranch is really nice. Then our meals, I had the white fish filet with pistachio and lemon butter sauce. To. Die. For!!! My husband had the walleye and he was brought back to his younger days of fishing in Canada and catching Walleye. We both absolutely loved our meals. The fish is fresh and nothing takes away from them. I wish we lived around here to continue to go back, maybe one last time before we head home. read more

I've been a satisfied customer here for years. Tonight, they had a feature menu for Mother's Day and I was blown away! Chef Paul always does a nice job but the inclusion of cream of asparagus soup a braised lamb shank made the dinner extra special. I've had many delicious meals in Northern Michigan and Terry's is no exception. In fact, my brother likes Terry's so much that he wanted to eat here 2 out of his 4 night vacation. We were lucky enough to join him one night. Unfortunately, you can't make a reservation, but somehow we scored a table for 8 with no wait. When they saw that 3 of our 8 were small children they asked us to give them a minute and found a lovely table in the back for us. There's no kids menu here, but they will make buttered noddles which suited our hungry little ones. In fact, my son ate the entire plate of pasta before declaring he didn't actually like it and would need something else to fill him up (as in dessert...nice try). I went with the whitefish, green beans and sweet potato and couldn't have been happier. The whitefish was cooked to perfection and I'd likely order the same exact thing next time. I found the service in Northern Michigan to be much slower than what I"m used to in Chicago and while there was a little wait for our food, they were faster than most of the other restaurants we dined at. Overall, absolutely delicious and I'll be making a stop there for future trips. read more

I really enjoyed my dinner here. I had the Whitefish Grenoboix (beurre blanc sauce with capers). The green beans were amazing..tiniest haricot vert I've ever had and so tender. Terry is a local favorite right in the downtown of Charlevoix. They are known for there delicious whitefish entrees. The Almondine version is hands down the best. They use an also light lemony sauce to go over the top . Most entrees come along with a dinner salad . They have a decent amount of dressings to choose from . The shrimp provencale is our favorite pasta and it comes loaded with shrimp. We will always continue to make terry's a part of our up north traditions ! read more

The restaurant opened in 1983. The menu was then set in immutable type, except for the price. It's all still here - side salad, baked potato, key lime pie. Broiled whitefish with Grenobois (butter, capers sauce) came with green beans that were overcooked and a baked potato. The chicken schnitzel came with the same butter and caper sauce, green beans and oily hash browns. At least the wine was good, in particular the Morgan Pinot Noir from Santa Lucia. read more

We made a trip over to Terry's to celebrate my significant other's birthday and enjoyed our meal. This is definitely a "wine & dine experience" type of restaurant from the food to the prices, so plan on spending some time here. You'll also want to get here early as they are a first come first serve restaurant that does not take reservations. The menu focuses on fish with three different fish options (whitefish, perch, walleye) and four different sauce/dressing options for each. They also have at least one chicken, shrimp, and steak option to satisfy the meat lovers palette. We tried the escargot and crab cakes for appetizers and both were great. It's rare to find escargot on a menu so that was definitely a special treat. We also loved their house made balsamic salad dressing for our side salads. For our entrees, I tried the whitefish Grenobois and thought the lemon caper sauce was pretty good. I would have loved just a little more of it. My significant other got the whitefish almondine and he thought the almonds were great but his sauce was a little plain. For dessert, he tried the chocolate mousse and I ordered the raspberry creme brûlée. Both were plated beautifully and delicious. Our service was excellent and the food was good. My wife and I had a great dinner at Terry's last night. We started the meal with the mushroom ravioli. The flavor was superb. Next, we shared a caesar salad with anchovies and then both ordered perch. While seafood, especially fish (perch, whitefish and walleye) seem to be their forte, the menu has a variety of dishes, including steak, pasta dishes and other specials. One of the highlights is Terry's wine list - carefully chosen and offered at very reasonable prices. Deserts were good as was the service.
