This is one of the best brunch spots in Chattanooga! Kind of unassuming, since it's generally what I would considered to be a great bar. But their food is not to be overlooked. I almost always get the Seoul Train, but today I got the Arnold and it was outstanding. I was initially a little nervous about bringing my young kids here, but they have a seasonally rotating selection of French Toast that is out of this world. They all come with 2 pieces of toast so my kids are happy to split it, and always full. Today was Grandma Nola's and it had a granola crust with a berry cream on it, and then had a berry reduction to pour on as well. And even better? They have a ton of games downstairs and a TV with Disney plus, and the staff are amazingly kind and always quick to turn on whatever the kids want. I am rating just the brunch. I plan to write a few reviews over the next few weekends to support some of our favorite places and then we'll circle back on some of the lesser places if there's still time. This is the best brunch in Chattanooga, hands down. The menu is creative. I like spice. The Seul train, extra soul, extra egg is just about the perfect breakfast. It's spicy, interesting, delicious. The shredded pork, sambal, the soft-boiled eggs, the finely diced potatoes for kind of a hash at the bottom, it's all excellent. There are sweet options too. My kids (well, 18 and 20), love the "cheat day" which has a pretty good mix of sweet and savory; my wife loves the plain breakfast but with chorizo for the protein which is more interesting than the soupy sausage that we usually get around here. There's also a pretty incredible sweet potato and brussel sprout hash; can't remember what it's called but the taste is unforgettable. The Bloody Mary's are good; I haven't had any of the other drinks but when I do rarely drink for breakfast, that's my choice. And the service! The service! ... is extraordinarily average. Great wait staff but just too many folks to get back to you as quickly as you'd like. But take your time and you'll enjoy yourself tremendously. read more

On the hunt for a good burger we stopped in. It was an afternoon and the place was not to busy yet. We sat ourselves in the basement a little bit later the bartender came over, walked through the menu and took our drinks. Pleasant and efficient. We both ordered the Ritchy burger. I ordered mine well done without lettuce or tomato. It took a while for the food to come out more than I would expect for two burgers. The cheese wasn't melted, the bun swallowed the burger, it had lettuce, and mine had some pink. I didn't raise concern. The flavor of the burger was pretty bland with the bacon jam being the saving grace. The bun was delicious the other ingredients didn't stand out. Our Coke was semi-flat. This has been one of our favorite spots for years! Great drink selection and constantly rotating craft beers so there's always new stuff to try. Love the unique fusion menu, food is always well prepared. We noticed some struggles with consistency during covid (as did so many others) so took a break. without a doubt, some of the most original bar food in Chattanooga. they also add a lot of variety to old recipes such as your average burger and combine it with jerk sauce. they always have a really good selection of draft beers on tap, rotating constantly with high gravity options. food and alcohol at Bitter Alibi is a wonderful experience. my son was even able to partake him a vegetarian option. Our server took good care of us, they got a little busy down the basement. she explained that to us and honestly, it was that long of a wait. But I really did appreciate her honesty about it. Well Chattanooga may just be one of the best places ever to have brunch! Food & Drinks - our food was good, nothing great. I ordered the burrito for brunch which was massive! It tasted fine, just nothing special about it. The bloody mary, however, was fantastic! I'm anxious to go again and try something else on the menu. Service - the service was great. Everyone there was willing to grab something for you, refill your coffee, clear your dishes. The teamwork truly enhanced my experience as a customer. Atmosphere - We were here around 10am on a Saturday. We walked in and were seated immediately. There is a really cool ambiance here. One thing I will say, it's not the best place to take someone who might have trouble with stairs. The bathroom is down a very narrow spiral staircase which makes it difficult to access. Also, the parking situation is not ideal. You are likely to have to park on the street somewhere and then walk to the location. read more

I hate leaving restaurants feeling like I did something wrong. My wife and I saw the great reviews and thought the menu looked fantastic. We dropped in for lunch on a Saturday, but only brunch was available. No biggie, we can make this work. We ordered the salad shmalad with chicken and dressing on the side. It came out with dressing on and tofu. We asked if the salad came with chicken and were told it didn't (despite the brunch menu clearly stating chicken or tofu). The waitress then looked at us and didn't say anything...the silence was painful. We eventually asked to get the salad without dressing which, after two trips to the kitchen, resulted in a plain bowl of romaine as we had given up hope of getting the salad without dressing. The kicker here is that when we were ordering, the waitress seemed to suggest brussel sprouts when we picked the salad, not indicating it would cost extra. We got the brussel sprouts (which were very good) but didn't realize it was going to cost us an additional $3 for them. In the end, I would recommend the food, but the service wasn't worth it. There was no repeating orders back to ensure accuracy. There was no checking with the kitchen to make sure we could get a salad without dressing or with chicken as the menu stated. There was no notification that brussel sprouts were extra (especially since we didn't even want them originally). The biggest thing, I don't think we heard a single apology, which made me feel like it was my fault things weren't right. If you really want to try the food, I suggest ordering to go. read more

Indifferent service: no welcome, never did get her name, no answer to what drinks are offered for brunch, no coffee refill offered, did not check on us once, took order-set food down-delivered receipt, overall mediocre and lackadaisical attitude. Long wait for food: 1 hour from being seated. Food: Feta and Spinach everything bagel was tasty but egg was cold. Richy's burger was greasy through the bun but dry and over cooked inside and lacked any coffee flavor much less any seasoning-horrible burger. Brussel sprouts side was the delicious. Atmosphere: hip. Okay, this is going to get weird... I feel a sexual attraction to this place. Really. I mean, I don't remember a time where I've gone to BA and not left satisfied. See what I did there? No, I didn't mean an actual sexual attraction, that's pretty weird -- it's a metaphor, guy. I think. Anyway, this is my favorite place in the city aside from my own house. The patrons there would call it my house, but alas. Jason and Matt started this bad boy about a year and a half ago now, and it's become a city staple. If you're reading this and you don't live in Chattanooga, then you're going to want to come here. It's where the locals hang out. Nelson keeps a really great draft list and bottled collection going, that may just be the best listing in town. That, or you can just grab a Rolling Rock tallboy for $2.50 at any time. A little birdie tells me they're opening up a cocktail lounge on the third floor in February, but shhh! Oh, and the brunch! Sorry for getting to the alcohol first, but ya know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The brunch here is the best in town, and they serve it week-round, with the exception of Tuesday. Get a chorizo burrito and some gravy on the side. Slap your momma, good! They've also recently started a late night menu that is not to be messed with. Pork belly ramen, if you're nasty. All in all, these guys are family. They turned a bar into a restaurant, and now a restaurant into a bar/restaurant/cocktail lounge. It's the hottest ticket in town. I met my roommate through here. I met my best friends through here. I've even met some exceptionally beautiful women, and men, and well, sometimes Jaime brings her dog, and Milton is pretty beautiful. Keep up with them on Facebook and Twitter because these guys love throwing parties and supporting local business and charities. Just go, and tell 'em Sasha sent you. Stopped here after picking up my Wife from the airport. It was late (after 11 pm) and we were looking for somewhere to have a good beer and a bite of food. There are a few places in Chattanooga that fit that description but not as many as you would think. I had been here one other time for brunch after a triathlon and liked the atmosphere though I had a feeling it would be pretty busy and it was. When we first got there we got stuck in a corner table behind a table of guys that decided moving chairs around and blocking us in was ok. After deciding we wanted to eat and that wasn't going to happen back in the corner of forgotten customers we wedged our way out and found a spot at the far end of the bar which wasn't much better. Turns out you pretty much have to go stand in front of the cash register to get anything, but once you figure that out it is smooth sailing. We each ordered a different ramen soup and they literally couldn't have been any different. Mine had no broth and tasted like sesame and her's had broth and kale and tasted more soup like. We agreed they were both good, especially with pork belly and egg added. Oh and mine came with so much bacon I ate what I wanted and gave it to her to finish and it seemed like a lot. The beers were good and the selection wasn't bad as there were a few we hadn't heard of. One word of advice, If you don't like smoke don't sit at the end of the bar where the smokers open and close the door to go burn one outside because they drag that smell in with them or they just fail to close the door. read more

We absolutely love this hidden gem. Yes, it really is down that little alley and yes, it is worth the effort to find it. Small but excellent beer selection. Only open a couple of months and about to add wine. Great service. This place feels like home. Just need to move my recliner in and hook my roku up to the tv. After a number of visits it is time to move them to the top of the list. Five stars for this amazing little perfect place in Chattanooga. The only other bar that makes me feel this way is McSorley's in NYC. If you have been to McSorley's you will recognize this as VERY high praise. Four weeks ago BA doubled their footprint by opening up the main level (street level) and started serving brunch six days a week. Like everything else they do they keep it simple and awesome. On top of their regular menu they offer (i think) ten more breakfast-y selections. We ordered The Cumberbatch (cheese biscuit with cheddar cheese and chorizo gravy topped with a fried egg) ant the Seoul Train (Their Korean pulled Pork over red potatoes with a soft boiled egg) We also had a carafe of Mimosa's. Absolutely wonderful and a very good value. Service was, as usual, excellent. The new space is bright and fun and they have a third floor that will one day likely be a special event space with a great balcony. OK, here is a first for me, a SECOND update to a review. I came here for brunch on a blistery cold saturday morning. For a party of 2, it wasnt a terrible wait! it ended up being around a ~30-35 minute wait, which is around what the host told us (~35-45 min wait)! (Great host btw. he was a stockier man with dark hair and a beard with glasses who was incredibly friendly and even checked up on us at the end of our meal) FOOD: we ordered a total of 3 things. one of which was the sangria. and for someone that A. doesn't like the taste of alcohol (or wine for that matter) and B. doesn't like expensive drinks where they give you very little quantity: it is safe to report that their sangria was none of that. it was delightful, it wasn't heavy on the wine part, it wasn't heavy on the alcohol part, and it was definitely a full enough wine-ish glass for only $6! definitely worth it. (note: for a whole pitcher you can pay only $18. which is definitely worth it if you're thinking about having 3+ glasses of sangria) EL BURRITO: this is everything yelp makes it out to seem, and more. its AMAZING. one of the best breakfast burritos around. i'm actually very picky about my burritos: i dont like too much tortilla/carbs, i dont like it when its dry, and i dont like it when theres too much of random crap in there that they just throw in there to make it fancy looking / sounding but doesn't actually add cohesiveness to the dish. This burrito was none of the above. the flour of the tortilla was evenly distributed between each bite; the contents itself meshed very very well together; it was a good sizeable burrito. not too big but not too tiny. also plus stars for presentation! Definitely get this burrito if you like brunch type food, but its a lil too early for "normal" type food (like the korean meat dish or the sandwich-type dishes) but dont want the normal boring pancakes and egg type dish (they dont serve pancakes here; that was just an example) EGGS, BACON, BISCUIT, FRUIT plate: my co-diner got this plate. He really wanted to just try the regular good ol' joe type of breakfast. and he LOVED it. he said the food was incredible, quality was great, and quantity was amazing. the homemade biscuit (that i had a bite of) was SUPERB. definitely recommending the biscuit if you can get it! SERVICE: nothing short of spectacular! our waitress came by and checked on us when needed, but nothing too much or too little. everyone i observed around the place had great attitudes and really took care of the customers. SPACE: this is such a cute little shop! there's a main floor and then there's a bottom floor too that some people were being seated in as well. If you want good lighting for your instagram pics, i would try to sit upstairs because there is simply just more natural lighting. but the food is the same regardless of where you sit so it doesn't matter! While you're waiting, there are murals around the back where you and your friends can go and take pictures of each other. there's an AT&T building that has AMAZING murals painted on top of it just across the street. i HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place if you're a noogan or if your'e an out of town diner. Amazing vibes, the location was cool, they were playing good music, and they were even playing new girl on the flat screen in the basement. This, lit by twinkle lights and business cards on the ceiling set a really nice tone to be blown away by the menu, which was perfect for the eclectic atmosphere. The spicy margarita was delicious and the appetizer of fries was...I can't say this enough..literally one of the best dishes I have ever had. Completely unlike anything I have had. The Mexican/Asian fusion was beautifully done, with amazing vegetarian and vegan options. We also got the quesadillas, which were excellent. I was a bit disappointed by the ramen however, after having been hit with all these flavors I was surprised by a rather bland dish, not bad, just a bit underwhelming. Overall though the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was wonderful and it just constantly gave you the feeling that it was just a very nice place to be. read more

Great twist in Korean food in a bar environment. The menu has plenty to tasty Korean dishes. Lots of fun drinks to compliment!

The food was good and the actual bar is also nice. However they stupidly have tables closed off inside the bar forcing you to sit outside. I can tell this does nothing to stop the spread of a virus since there are still so many people inside and it's a very small room. This is also a major issue since there are crackheads screaming their heads off outside the bar, pestering you for change. Allow people to sit inside, lobby your local government to do something about this legitimate threat and nuisance to your customers and if they don't do anything get a security guard. More About the food, I'll say this, I think they have the best fried chicken sandwich in Chattanooga. read more

I was pretty instantly impressed with the place. I like that you walk down a small alley into a basement. It is rather cozy and homey down there. The beer selection has a bit for everyone and it's been getting better every time I've been there. The food menu is small. You will not be disappointed. I know these statements sound at odds I am someone that prides themselves on good sandwich-making skills. The Bitter Alibi kicks my butt. I have only had three of the sandwiches, but they have all been excellent. They are hand-made behind the bar. At least twice, it's been by one of the owners of the place. Really, do your self a favor. Get out here and show em some love. We need more bars like this in chattanooga. read more

What a great place. My partner and I were in town for the day and stopped in for brunch. Just the fact that they have weekday brunch makes this place amazing. The fact that the food, drinks, and atmosphere were all great was really just a bonus. She had a spicy Bloody Mary (with bacon, pickles, and sriracha) and it was excellent. I had a Kansas craft beer I hadn't heard of (8-bit pale ale) which was quite good. We each got the brunch burrito. She has a gluten allergy, and they were accommodating and served hers in bowl. I don't eat meat and was able to get tofu. So delicious. The avocado cream was so good. The staff was really friendly, the art on the walls was great, and we even dug the music they were playing. We're fans and will definitely be back next time we're in town. read more

Top 5 Brunches of My Life! This hipster haven has won my heart and soul. Being busy on a blustery cold Sunday morning didn't stop the swarms of people from this little spot. Needing a hangover cure, we had no idea what we were in for and came upon the welcoming/smiling Bitter Alibi staff ready to list their favorites and combos of their favorites to share. We ordered a few items to fix our savory&sweet taste buds [see photos of heaven attached]. We left daydreaming about the the Seoul Train, Cheat Day, and an edited version of The Arnold [subbed the bacon for spinach for a veg. friendly BA version of eggs benedict]. I would like to give The Bitter Alibi a better review, as the staff and clientele is always great; I've had some of the better conversations with strangers that I've had since moving here at The Bitter Alibi. The music's always cool and they've always got some tasty brews on tap. It'd be cool if they expanded their bar to a full bar beyond the handful of whiskeys and vodkas they have behind the counter, but you can't win 'em all. I like The Bitter Alibi, will likely return soon, and will gladly change this review if it's addressed or my next experience there is outstanding. It's just there was an experience last night that, unlike The Dude, I cannot abide. Namely, my dinner. I ordered the Nighttime Bite starving last night. We'd been day drinking at an event with no hors d'oeuvres in sight, so when we got there I was super stoked to see what appeared to be some legit ramen on the menu (hopefully better than the convenience store quality noodles they serve up at one of Warehouse Row's more hipster establishments). However, there were three issues with the dish that left a metaphorical bad taste in my mouth. Issue #1, though three of us ordered the same dish, the Nighttime Bite, mine took longer than everyone else's dish at the table by 10 minutes. Now, their excuse might have been with my second issue. Issue #2, I don't like soft boiled eggs. I think uncooked yolks kinda gross, and asked that they fry my egg over hard. The waitress said no problem. But when my food didn't come when everyone else's did, I figured it was them frying the egg that was taking the extra 10 minutes *rollseyes*. Even though someone who'd ordered a burger at my table also ordered the egg on their burger fried over hard, apparently the one that was supposed to come on mine took longer. So with that wait, I'd expected that at least my order would show up right. Wrong. Though the egg looked like it had been fried, it was fried over easy, with runny yolk running out as soon as I cut into it. Though, luckily the yolk was masked by issue #3. Issue #3, there was SO MUCH SAUCE in this dish. While the dish had some tasty spicy sauce of some kind, the dish was DROWNING in it. This wasn't a broth. It was a sugar based spicy teriyaki sauce that, if used sparingly, probably would have made the dish. However, of the three servings brought to our table, two of them had about 2 inches of standing teriyaki sauce when done (I couldn't finish mine. If I had to guess, I bet mind would likely had the same issue). I'll likely return to Bitter Alibi. And I'll gladly change this review if someone from there reaches out to make this right. But I had to say something, cause what could have been a really nice bowl of ramen ended up a gross bowl of sauce, and, well, I think Bitter Alibi, you're better than that. read more

This place rules. Incredible atmosphere, friendly staff, great beer selection, and delicious food. We went to Bitter Alibi this past weekend while visiting Chattanooga for the night. We hit six different restaurant/bars that night and The Bitter Alibi was by far our favorite. The space is very cozy, nestled in the basement of a building (and the entrance is easy to miss; go around the side of the building and you'll find it). I was immediately impressed with the beer selection - a well-selected list of 6 or so draft beers and a few dozen more options in bottles. Ordered the hash with egg, black beans and kale.... got ONE egg on a tiny bed of kale with THREE tiny sweet potato fries.... for $10!! I felt robbed!! That's NOT a hash. Flavor was great, the plating was pretty, but I can't believe how small the portion sizes were. Not to mention the description was TOTALLY misleading. My wife and I had also ordered the french toast to share. She ordered some eggs on toast with turkey bacon. I think it's called the Arnold or something. The WHOLE ORDER fit on two tiny slices of baguette bread (the size normally used for a bruschetta appetizer..... except there were only two). Our servers were drunk and pressuring other servers into taking shots of alcohol. Our burger and fries both showed up cold. Even though the burger was obviously very well cooked, it was served at a temperature that was comparable to being recently removed from refrigeration. The temperature of the food ruined the expierence. I hope the quality of customer service improves at this place; however in the meantime I would much rather prefer to spend my money at a place that cares about its customers. read more
