What an amazing, weird and cool place! We read some of the reviews and wanted to try the Seoul Train and boy did it live upt to its expectations!! If you are in the area, head on up to the Bitter Alibi! Ambience: there are three levels. On the main level there are tables and it looks like any other cozy restaurant. The lower level has a speak easy feel. To access it, you can either take the stairs from the main level or take the hidden route of going to the back of the building and finding the interesting door with signs on it. You can get draft beers and food on this level along with well drinks. If you want to try their craft cocktails then head on to the third level. Service: the entire lower level was manned by one bartender / waiter. Yet the service was quick and amaing . Drinks : They had a good selection of local draft beers and a good selection of well drinks. The cocktail bar was closed at the time of our visit. But their cocktail menu sounds amazing. Will be going there to try their drinks soon. Food : The thing they caught my eye was SEOUL TRAIN! it sounded amazing and it was just delicious. It had potato's, Pork, samba , and spinach. There are so many things about bitter alibi I want to share, but also, I don't want to give away the vibe before you experience it. Here's the thing, it's a great place for a good cheap drink (no liquor though unless you go upstairs to "The Fix"). They have board games for you to play (although some might be a little "icky" (which is kinda understandable once you get there) but still fun! There is both indoor and outdoor seating for you to enjoy. It's a local joint (the owner ownes a few other spots in town) and the vibe is excellent for a casual night out. Spent the day wandering around downtown Chattanooga, and stumbled upon The Bitter Alibi around lunchtime. We were seated on the lowest floor - kind of dark, but we were seated right next to a window, which was perfect. Aside from that, the atmosphere was cool. Started off with mimosas - we chose classic orange juice, but you could also mix it up with cranberry or grapefruit juice. The price for a carafe seemed steep at $14, but the champagne:juice ratio made it worth it! For food, I ordered the Seoul Train- potatoes, pork, spinach, boiled egg, and sambal (a chunky hot sauce). Absolutely loved it, but only order if you enjoy really spicy food! The breakfast potatoes, which come as a side with all of their sandwiches, are lackluster; would recommend upgrading to another side for a buck. read more

We were in Chattanooga for a wedding and couldn't find anywhere to brunch that didn't have an insane wait. Yelped this place and it did not disappoint. It's a rad, skinny, old building that resembles a shotgun home. It's clearly a bar by night and I was kicking myself for not finding it the night prior. We waited MAYBE 10 minutes for a table, and they took us around the back and into the basement (didn't even know it was there) and it felt like a space you weren't supposed to be but in a really cool way. It's a laid back vibe with stellar beer and drink selection. I had the Arnold, which was delicious, and paired it with a drink I'm forgetting the name of but it was basically a mimosa with bacon in it (that's right - bacon). TLDR: Cool, laidback atmosphere, friendly staff, tasty food, booze. I will come back here every time I'm in Chattanooga. read more

I have been waiting to try this place for quite a while. Being that it is on a bit of an incline I haven't been able to go due to my foot surgery, but today I felt able enough to make the trek. Met a friend for brunch around noon and the place was hopping. Put our name on the list and Matt saw that I was a bit handicapped and made sure we got a table on the main floor. Very nice. As we waited for our table out on the little porch, I saw a couple of people drinking Bloody Mary's. Oh...that had me sold and I knew what I was ordering first. Very cool interior. Small but mapped out well. Love the bench seating on the one wall. Dark woods, very glossy, and very cozy. I looked over the menu and saw that they had 2 types of BM. One with vodka and one with tequila. Our wonderful server offered us samples so we could see which one we preferred. I went with the Bacon Bloody Mary with vodka. It had just the right amount of spice in it. Was topped with these house made pickles that I could eat a whole bowl of. As we looked over the menu, it was hard to choose. Not because it's a huge menu but because everything sounded delish. I pulled out my phone and we compared pics on Yelp with the menu descriptions. My friend went with the Seoul Train and I had the breakfast burrito with house made chorizo and a side of chorizo gravy. Chorizo gravy? I've never heard of that but let me tell you what - it's so freaking good! We also saw this French Toast thingy, called The Cheat Day and decided to order that to share for dessert. Our server was very helpful in us choosing what we wanted and was so friendly. Wish she could have just sat and had brunch with us. Very delightful. We decided to have another drink, I chose an Irish Coffee since it was pretty cold out. I also got an extra shot of Bailey's in it, cuz, you know, it was cold out. Loved it but would suggest maybe a dollop of whipped cream on it. My friend got the Zee Russian, with vodka, Baileys, cold brew coffee, on ice. It was yummy!!! Our food came out and it looked so beautiful! My friend's dish was so colorful and that soft boiled egg with the yolk running out was divine. My burrito was super super good, with potatoes, scrambled eggs and that chorizo. It wasn't spicy, but had a really nice flavor to it. Not like any chorizo I've had before. As I mentioned before, the chorizo gravy was the bomb!!!! Then came our "dessert," The Cheat Day French Toast. It was really pretty and very tasty. Not too sweet, the perfect end to our meal. If I could change anything it would be to just give it 30-60 seconds longer on the grill. But the taste was really good. This is a great brunch spot in a town with not a lot of brunch options. I was in Chattanooga for a night and went to The Bitter Alibi for a nightcap on recommendation from another friend who had stumbled upon it randomly on her last visit. The basement bar felt intimate and sitting at the bar was perfect for sipping a local-ish beer with one other person. There were several large groups of college-aged friends hanging out so it was a bit loud, but that made it more fun to me and less date-night-ish. The bartender was friendly and seemed to know a lot of people in there, which gave the space a local regulars vibe. Two of the kegs were busted, but there were plenty of canned and bottle beers to make up for it. I saw a sign that no shots were allowed. Didn't know if that was serious, but I respect it if it was! Didn't get to see much of Chattanooga in just one night, but The Bitter Alibi makes me want to come back again soon to check the city out some more! read more

My fiancee and I visited this restaurant for brunch at the suggestion of our host for the weekend. I was expecting something better, though it wasn't terrible. The restaurant itself is laid out so tables are pretty close together, which caused me to get knocked into a couple of times by other patrons. A lot of their seating is also in the basement, which is gloomy and doesn't exactly help anyone wake up and start their morning. That being said, I do think that this place is aiming for an edgier vibe, so maybe the gloominess is an attempt at that. I don't know. Our server was rude and acted like serving us was a hassle, as opposed to her job. She also forgot our drinks more than once. We ordered coffee and a mimosa and asked for water, as well. We waited fifteen minutes for the water to show up, only for her to give us one to split. We also had to ask about the coffee and the mimosa once more. After we got more water and our drinks, we ordered food. The menu looked like there is a lot of good stuff on it and we both ordered something different. I got a andouille hash bowl, while she got a spinach and feta whipped sandwich. The food took about 30 minutes to come out. My portion was fairly small. That's typically fine, but I expected it to be a little bigger since a side item wasn't offered with the meal. The cheese that came in my meal tasted extremely processed and was rather off-putting. My fiancee's sandwich was fine- nothing to write home about, but decent. She got roasted sweet potatoes on the side and those were good! All in all, we were a little disappointed with our visit here. I don't think I would recommend this spot to anyone searching for good brunch. read more

I must say, it was some of the best tofu I've had in a while! Hands-down my favorite brunch place in Chattanooga. The food is always amazing, you can get a mimosa with like three different types of juices (a grapefruit mimosa is my favorite thing of all time), and the service is remarkably fast for how incredibly busy they always are. Saturdays are a bit easier to get in there quickly, but if you screw up and arrive at 11 a.m. on a Sunday be prepared to wait. It's worth it though, trust me on this. They've got a great beer selection and amazing cocktail list, and their sandwiches and bowls make this a place I want to go to all the time (not just for brunch, though that's why I end up here most often). The people who run this place really know what they're doing, and it shows in every aspect of Bitter Alibi. Check out The Daily Ration across the river for another example. read more

One word for this place: cool. There are 3 levels, each with loads of character. Plenty of taps available with full bar. The food was deceivingly amazing. Great spot for 2 or small group. I believe draft specials were on rotation and they was awesome enough to allow you to sample new beers without ordering up an expensive flight. Stopped by hoping to grab a drink while visiting Chattanooga from out of town on 02/11/2021. Upon walking in, the bartender was extremely rude and aggressive towards myself and others in my party when one individual removed their mask while standing next to several other patrons who were not wearing a mask. When asked if any energy drinks were available, we were told that they did not serve energy drinks, and that we could "walk down the street for one". Needless to say, we left and went next door to Barley Bottle Shop where we were treated much better.
