So very sweet she took our rather soaked coats and hung them for us!! We ordered our drinks and a wonderful complimentary soufflé puff pastry. Oh my gosh!! I mean the truffle flavored delicacy! We ordered the skink. It was all it was advertised. Light, brothy, beautifully smoky fish was pure heaven on this wet day. The potatoes cooked perfectly. The flavor warm and comforting. Served with a lovely slice of bread and butter. After the soup. Our server brought out a little gazpacho to cleanse our palates. As my son commented soup or salad. Yes! Finally our entrees. The linguine with tiger prawns. The linguine not over cooked. The prawns seasoned well. The entire dish very balanced. Also ordered the arugula salad. I believe it was a Dijon dressing. Perfect!! Everything was delicious but please do yourself a favor and order the sticky toffee pudding. It was the absolute best thing I ate on my trip to Edinburgh. The service at this restaurant was impeccable. It got very busy very fast and I didn't notice because the waitstaff was very attentive. They sat 2 people at a table for 4, in the back while this table of 4 is really too small for 4 people. One thing stood out to me, we were the only non whites. When the last group again bumped into me, I asked to be moved; she then said due to short of staff they cannot change the seating but seeing seriously everyone is bumping into me, she begrudgingly moved us to a corner table with no lights - and not surprisingly no service. I understand the importance of trying to make the white people feel comfortable about not being seen with non whites - the best way is tuck the non whites away - but this is 2022. I am from California and no, this is absolutely unacceptable. Like MLK junior or Rosa Parks, we protected, first by requesting to be moved away from the hallway, then by my two teens and I walking out of the restaurant and finding more tolerant non racist restaurant to eat, and we spent a lot of money on the other restaurant. You too can make a decision to either eat or not eat at this place. The choice is entirely up to you. And this will define who you are.

I've sat inside (which has a really cozy pub feel) and outside (taking in all the sights and sounds of the Royal Mile). I've made a reservation, I've also just walked in. I've had good service, great service, and really exceptional service. But one thing remains the same: I *always* get the Vegetarian Haggis Tower with mash, turnip, and whiskey sauce (it's probably my favorite veggie haggis in Edinburgh; and that cream whiskey sauce? could drink it!), a side of garlicky chips, sticky toffee pudding, whisky, Irn Bru, and a cider. The other restaurant in we have been to the area overcharges on subpar food and service is unbelievably slow and inattentive. This restaurant, however, is absolutely phenomenal in every single way.
