We enjoyed an appetizer of calamari (forgot to photo), veal parmigiana with a side of pasta and sauce, and I tried the trio of chicken parmigiana, lasagna (this tasted more like eggplant parmigiana) and side pasta with sauce. Everything was delicious and we ended up,bringing most of it home,e to enjoy as another meal. I highly recommend going to The Black Olive in jonesborough TN. The only downside is sitting in a booth where the seats have bad springs. The restaurant would benefit from updating their booth seats. Otherwise it was a worthwhile visit. read more

Black Olive - Jonesborough, TN ---- Only 2 Stars. I will be nice to those who deserve it. The waitress(es) were nice, polite, and cheerful. The food, as always, was good. The service from them, the speed at which the food was brought out was good, except for two dishes that were slow in coming. The interaction with the maître d was horrible! So - NEVER reserve a room well in advance at the Black Olive in Jonesborough TN . IF you do, make sure you add about 5 to ten extra people to your party (who may or may not actually be coming). That way, when you are seated in the reserved space, you actually have enough seating. WE reserved the space for 20 people well over a month ago, for five o'clock. We were later called and asked for an exact number. We told them we didn't know, but that maybe only 15 would show up, and we reserved for 20. So what did they do? They set three tables for us. Two pushed together and one alone. Where in reality, 12 people could fit. We had 18 people show up for my very special milestone birthday dinner. When we arrived, we were told they could not seat that many, that the rest of the room was reserved for another large party that would arrive in an hour. They allowed the overflow of our group to sit at two other tables in that room, while they were empty. BUT at 8 minutes to 6, we were told the other party had arrived, and those of our party that were sitting at the other table would have to leave! Thankfully, we had all finished eating, but had not had dessert which was supposed to be an entire carrot cake we ordered to be cut and served to all who wanted it within our party. The rest of the cake we were going to take home. Mind you, a whole carrot cake there costs $80.00! It was my birthday, and we weren't concerned about the price. When those of our party were told they would have to leave, the maitre d ' (a man with a man bun) started clearing all of their plates from the table. We were never asked if they wanted dessert! We kept reminding them about the cake. The waitress said she would cut it for us if we wanted. We did. She did not. There was never a cake brought to us. Thankfully, we were not charged for it either. Needless to say, we were told repeatedly before, during, and after our meal by this maître d that he had arranged seating for 15 people and that we had told him there would only be 15 - wrong. We told them 20. Plus, there is no way even 15 people could have fit into the seating he had arranged. Bottom report - we were not happy, but we will get over it. And for most of the 18 people who were there ---- we won't be back. It used to be my favorite restaurant in Jonesborough. I will no longer be there, nor recommend it. Our minister was part of our dinner party, and now he has a new sermon to work on.... Bad customer service and how not to let it escalate. We were never told any of the waitstaff's names. So I don't know who to tell you was a great waitress. On our way out to pay, the girls at the register were frustrated but friendly. When we got home, we realized that while we had paid for our almost $400.00 meal, we received receipts for two take-out orders. I hope those customers got their food for free, as when they arrived, there was no receipt for them. read more

We ordered for pickup as the restaurant is closed this week for dine in. We stayed in Jonesboro for four days at an Airbnb close to the restaurant as we were scouting the location for retirement purposes. We both ordered the special which was chicken Parmesan, lasagna, and a side of pasta. My husband got the spaghetti with meat sauce as his pasta side, and I ordered Alfredo. It also came with sourdough bread. I ordered the cannoli for dessert. Dinner was delicious and huge portions. We could have shared it. Sourdough bread was also great. We got back to the Airbnb and I realized that we did not have the dessert. I called back and not only were they willing to refund it, but they also came and delivered it to our Airbnb. You don't see service like that nowadays and I was thoroughly impressed. Food was great...service was even better. If we lived here, we would be customers for life just from this interaction. read more

The service and food were excellent. They really were attentive to my needs. I had the chicken parm and the serving size was quite large. If I were to complain about anything it would be that they do not provide freshly grated parmesan cheese. On a Friday night it gets quite crowded. I look forward to returning. read more

Nice Italian option: the lasagna looked amazing, but I had a full day of meetings after so I opted for the grilled chicken salad. The chicken was well seasoned and lettuce was in good condition. Dressing was creamy and there was just enough. Nice staff and fresh fast service. Would definitely go back if I was in the area. read more

Our hotel front desk recommended this Italian place to us and it was very good. We were seated right away. Our server was friendly and accommodating. We started with fried mushrooms as an appetizer... Yum! Then we both added a $2 side salad to our meals. It was simple.. Iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cuke slices, and a few red onion slices. Everything was fresh and crisp and their blue cheese dressing was creamy and delicious. I ordered the chicken Milan, substituting the fettuccini Alfredo with zoodles to lower the carb count. I appreciated having that option. They were not a bit mushy, but definitely needed salt and parmesan to enhance the taste. The chicken was tasty and the portion generous. My husband got the Olive Special with chicken parmesan, lasagne, and spaghetti. We both had way more food than we were able to eat, so it'll be another meal for us. Feels like a family-owned and operated business and I'd love to go back to try some of their other options, too. read more

Walked in and were immediately greeted and sat. The waitress was super nice and efficient. We ordered the fried mushrooms as an appetizer. They were average. The house salad was good, would have liked fresh croutons instead of packaged but they did add banana peppers for me. The calzone was 12" of deliciousness. The cheese was gooey and the marinara was flavorful. The spicy chicken was full of flavor from the beginning of the bite to the end. Definitely could taste the cayenne pepper, it definitely timely has spice. The bread with it was super fresh. The food was served hot which is an anomaly where I am from. The restaurant is a mix of casual with a flair. Definitely recommend if you are in the area read more

I go here for the Italian nachos but plenty of other dishes to choose from. My experience has normally been pretty good even in busy nights, but I guess we hit a nerve last night as my party of 5 had late lunches so we decided to go a little lighter with with some cheese knots for the table, simply the nachos as a meal for me and my elderly parents splitting the appetizer combo as a meal and then the other two light eaters choosing to split a pepperoni role. It didn't take long to notice our waitress was perturbed with our light order and sitting close to the hostess area I was able to hear the complaint. Now what she didn't know we were saving a little room for a couple of the $9 desserts and I normally tip a little more % when we don't have full meals as long as service is good. Empty drinks for most the meal. Walked away still tipping 20% but probably out of societal pressure as the service was definitely not worth a tip at all. We'll be back but may be a minute. read more

A must try. Pizza is very good. We had their special pizza. On our second visit we started with the cheese knots. These were amazing! Plenty for two to share.
