The owner of this place is a complete con-artist, what a horrible experience. Save yourself. The apartments are horribly dingy and filled with black mold too. The electric bills are arbitrarily adjusted based on whatever they feel like charging you. They do not tell you how much electricity was drawn from the unit's meter when you pay the bills. I'm gonna tell you that the previous reviews are basically accurate. The Blake had staff that would lie to your face. They would not pass on messages to upper management, nor would they pass on Messages for maintenance. That all changed when they fired those people. They hired a new manager, Christin Rivera. She has been wonderful and has restored my faith in The Blake. She works with a maintenance technician named Dylan. Both are very honest and can be trusted. They have great communication skills and will get back to you. Back up any maintenance requests with an email so you can reference the date when needed. I was last there three weeks ago. The carpets in the hallway were being shampooed. The maintenance technician was painting the hallway as well. They were putting in long hours prior to the start of the quarter. I haven't seen the garage look better. So I think they're doing the best they can to bring The Blake back to a level everyone expects. read more

Awful experience in and outside of the unit, staff, and facilities. Expect downed elevators as the norm and unhelpful staff to tend to issues in the units (leaking ceilings, cockroaches). Lack of communication with the management was a constant. Would not recommend. read more

Living here comes with a few hiccups but the Blake offices are very good at getting maintenance to you as fast as they can when things go wrong. Unfortunately they do not have many people working so it can take a long time for things to actually get done and there were quite a few things broken or not working when we moved in. However, we're in a lovely location and I'm very glad I'm living here. read more

My son has lived here for a few months now and I read all the reviews before I moved him in. However, the location and the fact that he would be very close to all his friends from school made me want to try out The Blake, regardless. I can say I am happy with this community. The only con I wish could be changed is the fact that the gym closes at 5pm when the staff go home for the day. Most communities tie your gym access to your apartment key fob so they can tell who was in the gym and when and then have cameras too, of course. I wish The Blake would do this so the gym was able to be accessed at all times. Everything else here has been great. It's an apartment building completely full of college kids so my son and I didn't expect it to be able to be clean 24/7...some kids are dirty. The Blake does it's best to keep it nice. A lot of people complain about things breaking and not being fixed, but every issue we've had, my son put in a ticket for on the app and the maintenance people came pretty quickly and took care of it. I don't think some kids use the app. I think they go down to the front desk and report the issue and think that's all that needs to happen, but it's not. One of my son's roommates was having other kids actually live in the apartment on the couch. Clothes moved in and everything and the staff took care of it that night. Not the next day...my son told me they came that same night and kicked out the squatter kids. This is the biggest pro for me because two of those kids were girls (it's not supposed to be a co-ed apartment) and if anything bad happened to them in that apartment, I don't want my kid to end up questioned by police if he didn't report them living there in the first place. read more

If I could give this a 0 I would! My son moved into one of the apartments, It was the most DISGUSTING place we have EVER seen!!! I called three times no one ever called me back! I emailed no one ever gave me updates! They finally sent someone over to clean it up but this was awful! Also, they advertise stainless steel appliances all appliances are BLACK not stainless at all! I have lived here for 3 years. The only thing keeping me here is the location. Maintenance is horrible. Have a leak? Better bring your own fan and some towels. Washing machine broken? Mine as well call an outside service to fix it (unless you're fine waiting 3 weeks). The manager and others who work in the office are extremely rude. They disregard any issue you may have unless you cc your parents on an email. Next, let's talk "amenities" the pool. Looks luxurious right? Think again. The pool is constantly dirty and rarely gets cleaned. The hallways in the apartment are disgusting. Last year there was throw up in the hallway and we had to call for three straight days before someone could come clean it up. And that was after my parents had called as well. If you're looking for a sanitary place, I don't suggest the Blake. read more

RUN!!! You've been warned! I spent two years here just because I don't have a car. They charge you any chance they get and not warning you in advance. Not allowed to move out before the lease ends (you can do transfer only and you have to find your next sucker). Transferring lease spends you hundreds to thousands of dollars. One of my friends signed the lease with me two years ago and four of us should've lived together. But the office lost some paperwork so she's out from the lease and has no where to live (without a refund of $350 leasing fee). They have trash butler who only takes one trash per day on weekdays. And the trash chute is so small that you can't put any kitchen trash bags in it. You will be fined $25 per trash bag PER PERSON in your unit. My dishwasher haven't been fixed after submitting the service request since August. You have been warned. RUN. If you are still considering this place, at least read the lease first. read more

Unsuspecting SCAD parents BEWARE. This place is basically a scam. The only good thing about this place is that they allow pets and the actual apartments are decently large. BUT. Maintenance will not come no matter how many times you put in requests- I had to raise hell for a week to get someone to fix my 85 degree apartment, and on multiple other occasions. On a few occasions, the magnetic keys stopped working- the management left doors open, letting virtually anyone walk in. It's disgustingly dirty and there was a pile of trash, a dirty old mattress and other garbage in the stairwell for over a month despite complaints. It's covered in dog poop. Move in and out and parking are super unorganized. And if you lived with someone who moved out and left the living room a mess, there's no cleaning service for that. Soooo expensive for facilities and "amenities", which are subpar and not well cared for. Management is horrible, and it's basically highway robbery. When I toured, I was given a false sense that this would be the nicest place to live and one of the best options. It's not. Don't live here. Update; maintenance entered my apt without prior. Update: upgrade to 2 stars bc of friendly apologetic staff. read more

I heard that they were under new management, so I hope some of these have changed. For one, they make it nearly impossible to break a lease. Most places are fine with a 60-90 day advance notice and then a fee. The blake however forces you to either find someone to take over your lease yourself, or pay the rest of your months left in your contract, which is essentially just keeping a lease. They also don't allow subleasing. And the management and maintenance don't live in the building so there is not 24/7 emergency maintenance services. The hallways always smell like dog pee and I'm pretty sure the elevator inspection certificate has been oversee for nearly three years now. The previous manager was also excessively rude and finding the smallest gripes to fine people for. Lastly, the lease is individual leases rather than one flare rate for the whole unit. Which is stupid because then each person is paying 1500 or more a month for a two bedroom, which serfs the value of this at $3000 which is ridiculously expensive. It also means you can get new roomates put in with little to no consent. I would not suggest living here, coming from a previous resident and former employee. read more

Please do NOT rent from The Blake or The Betty in Savannah! My daughter has been driving around with all of her possessions since Wednesday, because she would not accept a filthy, nasty unit. One of the units was filty with a cat, they tried to rectify the situation and sent her to another unit with 3 cats! She informed them that she has asthma and can NOT reside with cats. The only solution that has been offered is that the common area will be cleaned and she can move in or they can relet the property which will cost her. They already are in possession of $795 of her money and she has not resided in the property NOT one minute. The lease clearly states no animals, but they insist that by cleaning the property she can move in. What about the CATS????? This is only scraping the surface of the issues that we have been dealing with. Management nor their Staff has went to the unit with her, just gave her a key and sent her on. Mind you she has returned the key on Thursday Morning because the office closed, and she had to go to a hotel. Where she has been every since. She was fully prepared to move into the apartment; however she was not informed that she would be in the basement unit (she requested 2nd or 3rd floor months in advance for safety reasons) prior to arriving. She asked Alexis the day before, but she supposedly could not give her the room location. The Betty has a take what I give you mentatlity, with total disregard for my daughters health and safety. This company is receiving a premium for rental of 1 of the furnished bedrooms in a 4 bedroom unit, so paying patrons should be given consideration! Furthermore, the rent for August was not prorated! She paid a full months rent, and has not spent one hour there! Also, I do NOT want to forget that the Property Manager, Jamie Huller did not assist at all. She is the main one that portrayed a take it or leave it mentatility. My daughter was just trying to get settled in prior to school starting now she's considering coming back home and trying again next semester. After giving them a full months rent and not staying in the unit one hour, she's spent more money for a hotel. Finally, she was emailed several leases one 10-pages, another one 43-pages and another one 61-pages. Very unorganized, dishonest, non-transparent and uncaring. PARENTS PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE YOU KNOW TO RENT FROM THEM. read more

I'm a junior SCAD student, and during the global pandemic (COVID 19), international SCAD students were forced to leave Savannah due to the university's closing. My roommates and I had renewed the lease contract driven by a series of promises, Blake's management made us if we renew the contract before the expiration date. Being international students, without close family in Savannah, we wanted to ensure our stay in the place, so we renewed it earlier than stipulated. When the university and the state send the notification to international students that the classes were to be offered remotely and the physical facilities of the campus were to remain closed, we requested the administration of Blake in June 2020, the cancellation of the 2021 contract because we had to return to our countries. The Blake administration responded that they knew what was happening but did not offer us a viable way out to cancel the contract or any kind of help that would offer us relief to return to our countries with peace of mind. Right now, we are in our countries and paying rent for a place we are not living in, and we cannot return due to the restrictions imposed in our countries due to the pandemic crisis. I do not recommend the place for the administration's horrible treatment and how they trick students. First, they are flexible and open to helping their tenants, but when it comes down to it, they are interested only in money. I do not recommend this place, terrible service for the super high price one has to pay monthly. read more

Stay as far away from The Blake as you can. They are owned by Savannah College of Art & Design. My daughter just renewed her lease out of convenience and we moved her into a one bedroom. Last year she shared a 5 bedroom with four other students. The apartment was a pit when she moved in and only worsened as the school year progressed. There was a large dog in the apartment that urinated and pooped everywhere as well as shedding. The kitchen was kept so dirty that we purchased her a small refrigerator to keep in her room. She stayed in her room because in addition to the apartment being kept in a condemnable manner, the dog took over (and ruined) the couch, and the hair and smell was intolerable. The Blake continued to move residents into this apartment in this condition without ever cleaning it. When she moved out we steamed cleaned the carpets in her bedroom three times, cleaned the bathroom, blinds, baseboards, etc. We took pictures so there was proof that her room was left in tip top condition. We just received a bill for "her portion" of cleaning the common area she couldn't use. When I called to explain that she moved into the mess and we bought a fridge for her because the one there was kept filthy, Addison (I believe) told me they "had to remove the fridge I left behind". I told her that they did not, she insisted they did and I informed her it is here at my home in Florida in our gym so she removed someone else's. The one bedroom we just moved our daughter in to has dents in the front door, holes in the floor in the bathroom, leaking sprayer on kitchen sink, dishwasher moves out of position and then will not lock....etc. I told my daughter to document it all. The place is a pit and they will try to extort every penny out of you that they can. Renter beware. WE should have listened to the reviews. read more

This is the worst managed facility and has absolute 0 understanding of customer orientation. We were told to arrive at 9:00 am on Sunday morning by the office staff on Saturday afternoon. They would try to accommodate an early check in on Sunday. We stood and knocked at the door repeatedly on Sunday morning from 9:00-9:15 am while there were at least 4 girls in the office visible from the front door. They ignored all knocks. They refused to even give us the courtesy of opening the door and explaining what the nest steps were. That is just rude when they were the people who requested we get to the office at 9:00 am on Sunday. read more

The Blake apartments have awful management. They are not accommodating at all and all they care about is your money. If you ask them any favors, they will say no. If you want to get out of a contract, they will make you pay hundreds of dollars. They also don't keep track of anything. I've been asking to live with the same 2 people for a year, and now that the time has come they completely screwed me over and I'm living with 2 random people I've never met (it's like freshman year all over again). DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO MOVE IN HERE. Despite being promised a move in by the start of school, kids were shuffled around from hotel to hotel for three months. Not having a stable place to live is a HUGE disruption to students. After The Blake expected so much of these students and families, one would think they would offer some flexibility to the students or at least be willing to hear and address their concerns. Not so. When I had a concern about an exorbitant late fee of $95 dollars for twelve days late on the rent, the property manager avoided my calls for weeks. My son had mistakenly thought that he had paid the rent when the company asked him to sign other forms. After I finally got ahold of her, Jackie was unwilling to show any flexibility or take responsibility for the craziness they put students through responding only "it was in the contract."
