I'm updating a review. I heard back from Bob and the manufacturer took a long time to send him the replacement blind for the one that had a mechanical issue. It is in and the issue was resolved. Bob's work is top notch and getting the appointments for installation are quick one the product is delivered to him. My only issue has been with communication. They were very satisfactory, but after many years of abuse by the dogs and just the general busy-ness of an active household, they were looking pretty sad. The first time I dealt with Bob I ordered both shutters and shades, it took 6 months of mostly ignored calls and texts, on the few times I did reach him it was one family emergency after another from him. In the end the shutters and shades looked great, he did offer a discount and he seemed genuinely apologetic... that was about 3 years ago. More currently in 2021 I decided to get shutters in one more room and wanting them to match the others I called Bob again so I have only myself to blame this time, once again mostly ignored calls and text and another family emergency. It would be 3 & 1/2 months before I finally got the shutters. Bob appears to be a nice unassuming guy, he also lies and can't keep a promise date. You'll find reading the reviews he has family emergencies all the time. The final product looks great but at his inflated prices they should. Bob Gross, the owner of The Blind Guy, is a professional, honorable, and knowledgeable guy. I called him for my sliding door blind after I contacted two other blind places and visited one blind store in Santa Barbara. Since I had this extra large and long sliding door, other blind places they couldn't offer me the reasonably​ priced blinds. I am very glad that I contacted Blind Guy-Bob. I told him over the phone the dimension of my sliding door, he just gave me the estimate over the phone. I was shocked to hear the price he quoted, it was very reasonable, in comparison with other offers I had received. I agreed to use his service right away since I was in Santa Barbara only a few days and I am living 2600 miles away. I asked him to come to my property to measure. He came the next day. He showed me the materials and colors and mechanic of the blind during his visit. At night I thought about it, I decided not to use his suggested pulling vertical blind mechanism system with cord and chain. I texted him and he responded immediately and changed it according to​ my liking. Two weeks later, he installed the perfect and beautiful blind for me. Working with Bob was a pleasure, easy and simple, just as my father always said: "Life is already complicated enough. Good things should come easily and simply." This post is long over due. We had all of window treatments installed by Bob in 2016. He was extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and responsive. Prior to hiring Bob we met and received bids from 4 other window treatment companies. We were impressed with Bobs attention to detail and the quality of his product line. Since our initial installment we have called Bob regarding cord replacements he was quick to respond and onsite within a couple of days for no additional cost. We would happily recommend and use this company for future window treatment needs. Side note the "Norman" line of products are phenomenal! read more

My initial review of Bob, The Blind Guy, was not good! He didn't answer phone calls and the shutters were not delivered when promised, despite a large deposit. Bob did eventually call me and told me that shutters always take 8 weeks... unfortunately, he did not tell me that when I ordered the shutters. So, at 8 weeks, I called again for an update. Again, it took several days to get a return call, but at long last my shutters were in and ready to be delivered! When they came, they are just right, which is wonderful. Installed quickly and professionally. Again - this was great! And, to top it off, Bob gave me a substantial discount on the final bill, for the mis-understandings. This goes a long way with me and helped with an improved rating in my review. But all I can say if you do decide to use Bob is to make sure you get all delivery times in writing and start calling him immediately if you don't have an on-time delivery. Bob was great throughout the process of covering two large sliders in our home. After a thorough consultation, we ended up replacing curtain rods and heavy curtains with honeycomb pull-down shades on one and shutters on the other. Bob was great with his communications and getting back to me, and all of his estimates for product arrival times were spot on. He was very flexible when I needed to adjust installation dates and was always on time on the days when we had appointments scheduled. Bob is polite, courteous, and fun to chat with while he installs his products. We love the results and will definitely go with Bob again anytime we need similar services in the future! This person is a dishonest vendor. We contracted him to install shutters in our home, paid 50% up front, and the balance upon installation. When they were installed they did not work properly which he acknowledges, as they needed to be made with frames which allowed the shutters to be moved up or down to control the light, but the frames are made too close to the windows so they hit the window frame and won't function. So many times we've tried to contact him, and a twice out of probably fifty attempts he has promised to come back, but hasn't and won't respond to our attempts to contact him. We recommend not using him at all. read more

Wish I had read the reviews more closely before contacting him. I needed blackout shades for my kids's bedrooms. Responded to my Yelp inquiry quickly. 12/14: He came to take the window measurements and was very nice and professional al. Asked for 50% deposit and said the blinds probably wouldn't be done til after Christmas. Cashes the check the same day. 12/21: I call him since no one has contacted me to schedule installation. He says he'll call his people and get right back to me. 12/26: I texted him since I still haven't heard from him. 12/27: I call him again since there has been no communication. I basically feel like my money is gone. Will be contacting BBB if I don't hear from him soon. Update: Finally heard back from him, and he installed the blinds a few days later. Ultimately he delivered, but the several weeks without communication made me uncomfortable. read more

Bob installed a beautiful Blind for us, but unfortunately it's not level & one side is too wide. He came back to look at it, & we told him we are having a cornice made and need him shorten the blind & make it level. He said he can do this, we made an appointment, but then he didn't show up. And now won't return our calls. Several messages. We are stuck with an expensive cornice now that won't fit & have found from other blind installers (we tried to hire) that this particular blind can't be shortened. Wish we had been told that as we wouldn't have ordered the cornice. Of course w/ hind sight I realize I should never have ordered that until he'd fixed the blind, but Bob was so confident it didn't seem like an issue. I just find it so strange when someone dosnt have the courtesy to call you back. Sometimes your on a trip, have a family emergency, etc. & that's just life. My step-father hired this guy last June. Despite what some of these reviews state, he is not professional nor honorable. The owner, Bob Gross, came out on June 11, took measurements and $150 up front as a deposit toward a $291.00 job for blinds. The invoice said it will take 3 weeks. It's been 7 weeks and no word from Bob! Numerous messages have been left, with no response. There is absolutely NO excuse to just blow a customer off while keeping their money! We are leaving a complaint with the BBB (though they will not help in getting the $150 back)..it will be on top of the 10 complaints already posted there. He was not the cheapest, but he explained the pros and cons of everything we were interested in which helped in making our decision. Don't use this guy. I am not some disgruntled client, more like someone who has given Bob so many chances that I feel like an idiot. He is so nice, but perpetually late with orders and appointments. Orders arrive with the wrong items, then you wait months for him to make it right. I am waiting right now for a part ordered in December. It is March. I really did not want to give a negative review but I'm so disappointed in this service. Our experience started out great, submitted a request for quote and Bob got back to me right away, scheduled an appointment for the next day and showed up promptly. Really nice guy, took all the measurements and helped us figure out exactly what we wanted/needed. He told us it would be two weeks for the blinds to come in. Four weeks go by...called Bob to check in, mailbox was full and he never picked up. Sent numerous emails to no response. Finally he emailed me back, and this was during the start of the Thomas fire and he let me know he had been evacuated but would call me the next day. He did not call but I figured I would give him time to get back to me given the circumstances. I called and emailed again multiple times but could not get a hold of him. It's now been 6 weeks. I let him know that I will be reporting him to the BBB as well as taking proper actions with our legal help. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable to take such a large deposit and then disappear on any sort of communication. *UPDATE* finally heard back and he installed 3/4 of our blinds the next day. He was apologetic for the absence of communication and quickly and efficiently installed the blinds. We are now waiting for the last blind to come in and be installed hopefully next week. read more

Bob seems like a nice guy, but he doesn't follow through. I held off having my blinds repaired by anyone else because I had previously spoken to Bob and he seemed like he knew what he was doing and charged a reasonable price. When I got back in touch with him this time to repair our broken blinds, he first made an appointment to come over to do the job, but then cancelled about an hour prior to the appointment due to family issues. Fair enough. We played phone tag for a couple days about rescheduling, but then I didn't hear back on a new time until a couple days after that. When I was finally able to schedule another appointment per Bob's preferred date/time, he never showed up, he never called, and he didn't pick up the phone any of the three times I tried to call and left him messages afterward. It's been about 2 weeks since that now, and I have yet to still hear anything, but I took the blind to get repaired elsewhere anyway. I wouldn't recommend working with this business based on my experience. read more

My husband and I had Bob outfit our old house nearly completely and waited many weeks for orders to come in, each and every time. And were thrilled! He fixed a problematic blind which we really appreciated. I referred Bob to my Mother to outfit her mobile home. He took her order however it took so many weeks for him to get the job done for her, she was very distressed. There were no show appointments and unanswered calls. My 82 year old Mom had to chase him down. On the last trip to her home to install the window treatments, he accidentally broke a valance and offered to fix it and return it to her. She has contacted him several times over the last 3 months (as have I) and he has yet to return the valance. What's up with this Bob? read more

If you're looking for blinds, this is the place. I recently bought a duplex in the Santa Barbara area with a lot of windows to be covered. My realtor recommended Bob Gross (The Blind Guy). I called him and made an appointment for an estimate. He came out in a timely fashion, measured everything and quoted me a price for all of the windows. Some of the windows were recessed and some of them were not. They all came out looking beautiful! The shades were ready when he said they would be and, everything got installed in one day in a matter of a couple of hours. Because he was able to give me an estimate while he was here taking the measurements, it made it easier for me to make a decision to go forward and/or shop price. We were very pleased his work and we will use him again on future projects. read more

I would leave zero stars if I could. Bob came out and measured and gave me a quote and I gave him a deposit of 900.00. He told me two to three weeks for my blinds. After three weeks I called and he said he would check and get back to me but he didn't. That was four weeks ago. I have called him multiple times and left messages and no response. I finally emailed him and he responded and said he was having some personal issues and would call me early the week of July 8 to reschedule. I have still not heard from him so I have disputed the charge with my credit card company and hope I can get my money back. As a small business owner, it is up to you to make arrangements if you can't take care of your orders and he did not. Bad experience- same as others mentioned. Bob comes, sees what you need, takes a big deposit, a month goes by, and he never calls you. Called and left messages for 2 weeks, just wanting to know the status but NO call back. Getting ready to report him to BBB. Finally, I call one last time and he picks up the phone. Says he's sorry, he has family problems, there was a glitch with the order, but it will be ready in a couple days, and he promises to call. Another week goes by and no call and no blinds. I am sympathetic to emergencies and family problems, however, there is NO excuse for not communicating with your customers about the status of their order, nor is there any excuse for not returning calls, leaving people hanging, taking their money and not delivering order anywhere close to the time promised. Back at square one, just waiting for my order. If there is no call within the next day, I will have no choice but to file a complaint with the BBB. Hope I don't have to call a lawyer. read more

Based on previous reviews, we contacted Bob at The Blind Guy to repair our blind. Bob is a real nice guy. He came by our house and determined what needed to be repaired. He ordered the part and returned several weeks later to do the repair. During the repair, he determined he needed an another part. WE have waited a month and have not heard from Bob. We left several voice mails, and one email with no response from Bob. Based on our experience, I can not recommend Bob at the Blind Guy. read more
