I like the people at the shade store. Very friendly and helpful. I purchased a shade from them before and it turned out very well. However, when I had several more to have done, and it was a much bigger job, I asked about how much of a deposit I'd have to put down. I was told I had to pay in FULL for the shades at the time of order. We wanted to have a better rolling shades than available in the internet, our window is larger than usual (106" wide ) and we wanted it to be motorized, thinking that the shade store is high end we ordered our bedroom shades from the shade store. Our shade arrived in the weekend, when opened the package we saw that the charger cable was frayed, it is a fire hazard . I called the customer service right away, sending the picture of the wire, he told me that the battery assembly replacement would arrive in 5 days. Then I got a message asking about the picture again on Monday, sent another one, then another request for another picture, sent again. Then silence! I called the customer service asking about the status of the replacement, he said that their QC department needs to approve it. 4 days passed since we reported the defec, there is no news yet, I have paid $2500 for it, roll is sitting on the floor in my bedroom, i will be using internet stores for other rooms read more

Gosh...I wish I could write a nice review because the installers that work for The Shade Store in Santa Barbara are nice. However, after working with the local sales person who was great, I had a guy come measure and ordered $10k worth of motorized ceiling-to-floor drapes, Roman shades for an office and my kitchen in November 2024. I couldn't get anyone to help me for so long that I emailed EVERYONE I could find within the corporate company. Finally, a nice woman said she would definitely take care of things, but ....after 4 remakes (YES, 4) and 8 months later, the products were still not 100% correct in July 2025, but I got tired of dealing with them. My drapes are too short, there's too big of a gap between my Roman shades, and on the sides. Their products are all made in Florida so it takes a very long time to get the information from the installer, who knows the product isn't correct, to someone who comes and remeasures, then re-ordered and made once again. THEN, you have to wait for an available date for install which isn't easy either. Their entire process is poorly thought out, slow and ineffective. The sales girl I worked with was wonderful, but no longer with the company and then I was assigned a liaison to help with the problems, but he didn't do ANYTHING and he was based in NYC. I had to call him several times and threaten to sue the company if things weren't done right. He's no longer with the company either. I would NEVER, EVER recommend using The Shade Store! Run! Their product is nice, but they don't measure correctly, they don't have good service people to contact, they seemingly need more installers because it takes a month to get an appointment and they come from the LA area. Lastly, if I owned the company and had a customer with as many problems as I had (and I was the "squeaky wheel") one would think I'd receive a call to see if I'm satisfied and to see if they could do anything further to end on a good note. The Shade Store offers high end shades, drapes, and blinds in a variety of modern and aesthetically pleasing materials and colors. I found this company using a Google search. I had no idea that they were based in SB. I'm very impressed with the high quality samples they provide. The measuring guy and their on site designer came out for the initial consult. I had no idea that my windows were not symmetrical until they informed me. They were very careful with measurements. It took the measuring guy a very long time to measure each window. Cons: very expensive. For my 46" window, each shade cost $1,000. For 4 windows...well, you do the math. This is after using their discount code. They took the time to measure my other windows in the space, but lost the measurements in the system, then, told me they didn't measure, then ghosted me. I didn't get a chance to order all the shades I needed. They required full payment up front, but then, they revealed that they didn't have the product, and only told me this after I coughed up the cash; so the product took a much longer time to order and install, leaving me nervous, wondering if I would ever get my blinds. I felt that I was their financial float and was forced to pay for a product before I even knew if it was legit. Overall, it was worth the frustrations, the long wait, and the miscommunications, because in the end, I love my unique, high end shades. I want to possibly use this company for other spaces in the home, after I complete the remodel, however, this time, I'll be prepared and will know what to expect. read more

I requested a consultation and quote for 8 custom window treatments to cover a large Bay Window, 3 French doors, and 2 windows in my living room. Roman shades and drapes were my requested options. In addition I wanted honeycomb blinds on the inside of two window treatments for sun protection. I had little experience in this type of project so a short initial consultation at The Shade Store was helpful. I agreed to the suggested next step which was for The Shade Store to review, measure and consider / recommend options for the window treatments. Significant problems and errors surfaced from this time onwards. 1. The Shade Store person who was sent to my home did not seem to have any design skills and could not offer even basic options on how best to treat the various windows. 2. While this project was not straight forward nor inexpensive the designer at The Shade Store never seemed to think it was worthwhile to visit the project to review options or my preferences. Consequently, when I finally received an initial quotation after one week The Shade Store made incorrect assumptions and costly mistakes on their proposal. 3. When I provided feedback on the quotation errors (for example, their false assumption I wanted a mix of Roman Shades and Drapes in the same room; and I did not require Roman Shades / Drapes on the same windows which I had requested honeycomb blinds) The Shade Store agreed to modify their quotation. And, at this time The Shade Store made little effort to suggest best options for any of the window treatments. 4. After many additional days I received the second quotation from the Shade Store. On reviewing the bid I was surprised to see that the total cost had more than doubled and the increase was over $15,000.00. 5. I contacted The Shade Store to ask why every window treatment had been increased by at least 33 percent even though no changes had been made o most windows. The Shade Store responded that the increases in every window treatment were made because they had changed the treatment of one window from Roman Shades to Drapes. 6. During all of these communications and Sales processes The Shade Store showed little desire or effort to provide appropriate customer service, consultation and cost quotations that was helpful and/or accurate. read more

I ordered roller shades from The Shade Store. I was required to pay in full at time of purchase. The blinds were to be installed on the 10/16. The day of the installation, I received a call telling me my appointment was cancelled and they would reschedule me for the 10/27. Due to a time constraint, this just won't work for me. The reason I ordered the blinds and made an installation date was because I had to have the blinds installed by a certain date. I called the installation department and my sales person. No call back. Emailed the sales person 3 times. No response. Beware if you have a specific time constraint. read more

The store manager was prompt in providing a very competitive quote, and placing our order. The installer, James, arrived at the scheduled time, and did a wonderful job. Great retail store but that's where it stops. The factory is a nightmare to deal with. Shades are not cut properly and valences were not build or sized as promised. Follow up and resolution is very painful. We have been trying to get four of the six shades recut for over six weeks with no results. They promote custom blinds but their capabilities fall way short. Update 2016-02-05: Megan from the Shade Store customer service reached out to me about the problems with the shades. She offered to re-do the slider with 5 panels, rather than three. The new vertical shades arrived about a week later and are much better. So, I bumped them up one star for good customer service. Overpriced Junk! We worked with the shade store in downtown Santa Barbara. We had visited Hope Depot and Lowes, and just didn't find the right material we liked. The Shade Store appeared to have good quality products in their showroom. We received the products in two shipments. One had the roman shades. Those installed easily, but there was definitely workmanship flaws: 1) the kitchen shade was assembled incorrectly, so that the drawstrings were not even, it would only sit crooked. I had to unknot the strings and readjust to get it even. 2) The drawstrings were generally the right length, but the material was too long, which resulted in the shades not sitting flat. . These were supposed to be FLAT Roman shades. 3) The drawstring attachment to the magnetic break away connectors is too close to the shade, when lowered completely. This results in the breakaway opening prematurely. 4) We ordered a shade for our slider. 84" wide, which allowed for about 18" overlap on the side past the slider glass. The idea was that when the shade is opened, it would be mostly past the glass, covering the 18" of wall. Jenna, our sales person recommended that we let the factory decide how many panels for the 84" with, and promised to call us back once the factory made their decision. BIG MISTAKE! The factory decided to go the easiest way possible, raw 30" fabric, with no edging. So, with three panels, 1/3 of the glass is covered, plus 18" of wall. Jenna never called us back to say there would be 30" panels. For a slider of that width, there should have been at least 5 panels. In short: Poor quality, poor workmanship, overpriced junk. I would not recommend The Shade Store shades to anyone. We are so glad, that we did only one room holding off for the rest of the house, until we saw the quality of the first order. 12/28/2015 Update: I just saw a reply on Yelp from someone at the store, saying he would follow up??? The gorgeous (but not "snooty") showroom drew me in, but the helpfulness of the staff (I worked with Craig) made me feel that I had come to the right place for our bedroom blinds. Our windows are pretty high, so I felt I needed to talk to Craig about long pull chains of some kind. He suggested raising and lowering these blinds via a battery-powered "clicker" (no need to bring in an electrician to wire them up), and now that the blinds are in place and working PERFECTLY, I know that he was right. Our blinds were shipped in just a few days, and were very securely packaged (with printed-in-the-USA instructions that made perfect sense), so we had our blinds installed and rolling up and down with the push of a button in no time at all. These folks are new, but they deserve to be around a long time. read more

Found The Shade Store online. Browsed their beautiful website and found their website design was shopper friendly. Their samples are free and the sample size is large so I could see the color and textures perfectly. Jennifer, from The Shade Store, called me and gave excellent ideas and suggestions. I was then sent over 100 samples. That's when I found two fabrics and their prices would match my budget. My husband and I read the directions carefully on measuring but I would walk that through a designer at the store. The shades came and we installed ourselves. Absolutely beautiful.
