First time eating at the Bluebird Cafe. A cafe that has a small cottage feel & could easily be missed if you weren't paying attention. On a busy day you might have to wait for a table, but the staff is friendly and we were seated quickly. The hubby had biscuits, gravy and hash browns. The biscuits were fluffy. I wasn't too hungry on this particular morning, so I opted for a la carte items of bacon and eggs. The bacon was crispy and the egg was cooked to order. You might want to bring a jacket! The cheesy cauliflower soup was creamy and comforting, and the cheese bread was the perfect side--warm, soft, and packed with flavor. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the space can get a bit busy during lunch, but that's just a sign of a great spot! Went on a Sunday morning for breakfast with friends. I found my party that was already seated and was waiting for the waitress to come over so I could inquire about their dog friendly patio. My dog was in a dog bag and well behaved. When the waitress came over she stated that another customer complained about my dog and she asked for a service vest. I stated that my dog doesn't have one but I saw on their website they have a dog friendly patio even with water bowls. She tells me that the patio is closed. It didn't say that the patio was closed on specific days. Plus why would it be on a Sunday, when people are off work and want to bring their dog to a friendly patio for breakfast. I left and my friends stayed. I wouldn't give them any of my monies and will not be back. Update your website to state service dogs only and patio only opened on specific days. I wish I could post a screen shot of their dog policy but it doesn't give me the option here. read more

I was drawn to this place while driving through town for its vegetarian options. The service was great and price pretty good. The atmosphere was lovely and homey - it has a real locals feel. Food was fresh and delicious. Terry, our waitress was friendly and efficient . The omelet was light and fluffy, pancake was light and fluffy with real butter and real maple syrup. The decor and ambiance was very pleasing and comfortable . The only complaint would be that ketchup and maple syrup were served in disposable plastic containers with lids. I suggest using permanent or large containers (I.e. the entire ketchup bottle, a syrup dispenser) instead of each customer contributing to the local landfill. I used to go here when it was The Cheese Barrel. Since the new ownership, the building has been updated quite nicely, and the menu kept relatively the same. The issue I have is with the pricing. I pretty much order the same thing that I used to when it was Cheese Barrel, but it is $6 more for the same amount of food. The food and ambiance are excellent, but I don't think that it is necessary worth it for the value anymore. I do go there and pay when I am craving cheesy cauliflower soup though. read more

I have gone to the Cheese Barrel for years and years and I have always enjoyed their homemade recipes, soups and sandwiches. Since Jackie took over the cheese barrel almost a year ago, she has made many improvements to this location while keeping the recipes/menu classic. One thing that has changed for the worst however, is the pricing. I visited a couple of weeks ago, and I spent $80 for four small bowls of soup and three sandwiches in a to-go order. I had a new mega card from the local Kelly Walsh Football team, for a 10% off discount on my order. The tall woman with the fake spray tan checked me out, and was quite rude when it came to redeeming my 10% off. She told me that she had never seen that discount before and that she could not accept it, even though it clearly said 10% off your order at the Cheese Barrel Bluebird Café. I don't know if she was having a bad day or if she is just regularly a bitch, but she rubbed me the wrong way that day. Never in my life would I have thought that I would be spending $12 on a petite bowl of soup. She snickered, "this is not the Cottage Cafe," another local restaurant in the Casper area. To set the record straight, next time I will be going to the Cottage Cafe. Leslie, the Cottage Cafe owner would never have any issue taking 10% off my order for as frequent as I return. The food there is just as good, if not better and all for a fraction of the price. It's too bad to see one of the few good local restaurants looking out for their capital profit over taking care of it's long-time local patrons. My business has been lost here. read more

This is now called the Bluebird Restaurant and their website and menu can be found under that name. We stopped in for lunch 40 minutes before they closed as we drove through ok a road trip. They were one of the few non-chain restaurants open on Sunday. They were so great and we had wonderful service. Kids had pancakes, I had the breakfast burrito and my husband had the club sandwich. All were great! I recommend stopping here if you need a place to eat! read more

This place has been here a long time. It is under new ownership and the facelift inside is nice. The food was good. There was plenty of staff and they were friendly once you got their attention, but the waitress didn't check back much and had to be flagged down. I know the masks make it hard, but it was clear from their eyes no one was really smiling. I hope they can find ways to boost morale some. Cheese bread is amazing and so is their daily soup. Both breakfast and lunch are really great. Service is good even though they are usually hustling. Atmosphere is plain, tables are tight and uncomfortable, but clean. Breakfast plates are excellent and their green chili is good on many options. Lunch sandwiches options are creative and vast and with a bowl of soup make a good meal. Otherwise I get two sandwiches and take the bags of chips home. Parking can be tricky on the street as they get very busy from noon to one pm. The veg head sandwich is a favorite as well as the pepper cheese soup that is normally on Mondays. Man... You gotta love The Cheese Barrel. Everyday they feature a soup du jour. Tuesday/Thursday is "Cheesy Cauliflower" and it is the best. For $6 you get a nice portion of soup and the best cheese bread ever. Sandwiches are always good too. They also have killer quiche! Great for a quick, inexpensive lunch.
