Felt like I was in the movie ATL and fighting for my life in here, will NOT be back. I've skated before but I am no pro and I will admit that, but I didn't know I was in the damn derby! There were people literally skating within centimeters of you on purpose to try and make you fall. Not to mention it was rather hot in there and peoples wind wasn't smelling too fresh. (If you can't skate, I don't suggest taking a bathroom break with your skates on because, well yeah, use your imagination. Not to mention the floor is slippery as all hell in there) There was not anyone behind the snack bar for quite some time and then when she did come over, it was like she was under too much pressure. (Not sure how, the oven wasn't even working) so we could only get drinks (Luckily we brought our own skates because the way those people were sweating and smelling, no thank you) If YOU CAN skate && I mean SKATE SKATE (you know I mean business because I said it twice) then definitely give it a try. It's not a beginner friendly rink by any means. (No bars to hold on to or any order at all) There was an older woman and man in there getting their money honey, right in the middle of the rink. Worked them up a great old sweat and then sat on them chairs people were sitting to eat. Also (sign the waiver before you go to avoid waiting even longer)

Also, it's very much a "beginners" rink but there are only 3 red plastic "walkers" for youngsters to find their way with. While the rink itself is very clean, modern and actually fairly nice compared to other rinks I've been to, my only complaint being the fact that the parking spots are at the street and not adjacent to the rink, which makes for a short but annoying walk, especially when it's raining or carrying heavy hockey gear. That aside, the interior of the place isn't too cold which is nice for spectators who don't want to freeze their butts off and the ice is of pretty good quality, although it does tend to take a while to freeze over once the zamboni runs. That aside, the locker rooms are numerous, I counted four, are kept clean and warm as well. Sometimes too warm but that's not a bad thing, especially in winter. I have yet to go there for a public ice skating session but would go there in a heartbeat as I find it quite nice.

What a perfect time for ice skating!…read more I was driving home from the Fresh Pond Mall yesterday and decided to take the long route home via my old town, Belmont. As I drove past Belmont High and wondered what the mobile home looking things were in the school's parking lot I remembered a very important thing. I can go ice skating for free at the school's rink! So, here's yet another free and fun activity. Pick up a calendar with the times of public and family skating, it is advised that Belmont residents are the only ones who can use the rink. Don't feel like being indoors? NO problem. Right across the street, next to the pool is a little self made rink where some kids were playing ice hockey. I hope you are enjoying the winter sports!!!

I am here 2-3 times a week now, and it's generally a pleasant experience. I really like the guys in the skate shop since they're always pleasant and friendly. I wish they had a bigger selection of the kids stuff (jocks, socks, helmet parts, etc.) because I really prefer to buy locally. But I have to buy elsewhere elsewhere too often when the local joints like this one don't have what I need.
