Basing this review on would I come back? Possibly if things improved as I believe in second chances. Service was low, when greeted we were greeted promptly but there were no smiles from anyone. I hope they all do enjoy working there! We started with one server and then it jumped to another server which I did see someone else experienced also, so maybe this is the norm for the location? This was many of our groups first time here and Alex started of same way with a slight smile, but he took the time to understand our confusion and began to lighten up once he understood our order and we understood the restaurant and he was a great waiter for the evening since. Thank you for putting up with our confusion! Food- chicken wings I would come back for they are definitely my top 3 I've had from a restaurant. Myself personally I am actually not a big fan with seafood boils because I do not care for all that seasoning, so coming I was quite worried I wouldn't eat anything. Well I caved in to try it with the crawdads, and to my surprise, it is definitely lightly seasoned so I did end up liking it. So, if you do truly like a seafood boil with seasonings and kick, I wouldn't recommend this place as a go to for others, but for myself if I have a craving I will grab my crawdads here. Overall the place is crowded and busy, it's in a busy shopping center. There are a lot of people working here at one time, it just feels that no one is thrilled to work there. We went towards their late shift to closing and to be quite honest I got understand that why they may have that feeling. The manager pulled out flashlights while we were eating to inspect the window cleanliness? Great job with the cleaning, but also not the right time. Also, micro managing the team's cleaning while standing at the counter and pointing at places they are missing (we should not see the from our seats). She definitely needs to work on Leadership, not manager, skillsets, and have her participate and guide team members rather then making it look as if she is looking down on her team. We have been going to Boiling Crab on 65th for years and have noticed the quality of the food declining. Although the portions remain consistent, which are based on weight, the amount of marinade and sauce coming in the seafood bags has decreased significantly as well as the quality of the marinade. The shebang used to be packed with flavor, chunks of garlic, and a much thicker more robust marinade, and in the more recent visits, it's more watered down and not as flavorful. Service is still good, and the ambience is the same. And although I have yet to go when they actually have blue crab available, they were also out of several other menu items, including lobster and clams. Our party went early on Sunday, so it was surprising not to have some of the items. We hope the food quality returns to what it once was as this was one of our go-to places, but for now we will probably check out a few other seafood boil spots. read more

I got 1 lb of shrimp and 1lb of mussels with potatoes in the whole shabang medium. I also asked for lime, and got a very big bag. One thing I've noticed is that they do not skim on the food! 1lb here is so much more food than I've received at other seafood boil restaurants. The seafood are also super fresh and delicious. This experience was absolutely terrible. Literally awful. My fiance and I waited for about an hour before getting seated which is okay we anticipated the wait but once we got seated we placed our order (not with our server w/someone else) and then once our server Justin approached our table he let us know that there was a 45 minute delay in the kitchen. My fiance and I understood things happen; shortly there after I asked our server if we could get extra sauce in our bag but he said since the order was already placed he was limited on what he can do (mind you our order wasn't going to be MADE for another 40 mins) I ordered the shabangbang shrimp which came out within 20 minutes of ordering it. 40 minutes passed and my fiancés food STILL hadn't arrived to our table which then I asked Justin if we could just have his order bagged to go ONCE it was ready; which wasn't for another 30 minutes after I made the request. We went there in hopes of having a meal together but clearly that didn't happen. There was no compensation for the long wait AND they charged for the additional sauce that was added to our bag rather than compensating it due to the long wait. Staff need to be RE-TRAINED on Customer service; as well as time management because within the same shopping center there was the Boiling Crab To-Go store. So, for my birthday we had a party of 9. I called, they don't take reservations. The day of, I went to join the waitlist. You can only join the waitlist for parties of 6 or less. It says to call. Family supposed to be there at 4 pm anyways. 3:55 I get a text that our table is ready. Family is in the parking garage. I went up and told them the family was in the parking garage. They said ok. Come back when the entire party is here. Whole party gets there. They dropped me off the waitlist. Had to wait 15 more minutes. For the first time in my life I did not tip my waiter. Not that it was completely his fault but the I do blame the staff for their inability to keep the correct amount of supplies for the amount of customers they have. I spent $240 here for my two children and I to eat. And my daughter sat there and filled up on fries because they did not have the adequate equipment for us to crack open our Dungeness crab and eat it. So I basically wasted $99 on a crab that was not eaten due to them having no equipment after sitting at our table for an hour. They couldn't have hand washed some crab crackers ? This is the second time coming in. Both to celebrate a friend's birthday. They accommodated 11 of us along with holding the cake for us. Waiting time wasn't too bad as we got here prior the rush of dinner. All of our seafood was very flavorful and fulfilling. We order a variety from Raw Oysters,Dungeness crab, Calamari and Fried Shrimp, Shibang scallops, Fried oysters and more. The only thing the shrimp was over cooked and on the mushy inside but common as it is cooked with other seafood within the bag. Ambiance is always loud and busy but not overwhelming. No to impress with this location, we waited 2 hours to be seated, (I had wait before at the other location but at least the service is good & the food). Our food was served cold, fits they brought the rice and like 10-15 minutes later the shrimp so by the time the shrimp got there the rice was already cold, however the shrimp was also cold, we barely saw our waiter/ waitress we have to asked for refills , because they barely came to check on us, the bathroom was dirty no paper liners and toilet paper all over the floor. This spot is amazing. I should start off by saying we drove two hours to come here. We did have to wait an hour so I recommend putting yourself on the waitlist if you have the availability to do so. Service was really good. Our server was very attentive and was constantly bringing us water, which was nice because we got the medium spicy boil and it was spicy. There was five of us and it came out to around 160 and two of us got crab legs. Locally where we live whenever we go to any shrimp boil place it normally cost us about $200. I got the shrimp boil and the snow crab legs, as well as a side of rice and I added potatoes to it, and the food was spectacular . My sister is normally a picky eater, and we both refuse to get crab legs locally because they are very expensive and have no meat. however at the boiling crab we both decided to try the crab legs and they had a lot of meat and they were definitely worth the price. I think we paid like $27 for snow crab legs Overall, the place is popping, it was packed. We got there around seven and the spot literally had a wait time until about 10 and they close at 10. I'm really disappointed with our experience at The Boiling Crab on 65th Street in Sacramento. We joined the waitlist before we even arrived. After receiving a text saying our table was ready, we still had to wait an additional 20 minutes to be seated. When it was finally time to be seated, one person in our party had briefly stepped out to the car to grab a diaper bag. Even though staff could clearly see that the rest of our entire party was present and waiting inside, they refused to seat us until she walked back from the car. This directly contributed to the extra wait time and felt unnecessary and unaccommodating. After we ordered, things continued to go downhill. My pregnant friend was served shrimp in her bag, even though she did not order shrimp. We immediately brought this to the staff's attention and clearly explained that she is pregnant and cannot eat shrimp. The bag was taken back to the kitchen, but instead of making a fresh one, they picked the shrimp out and sent the same bag back. This is completely unacceptable, especially considering pregnancy and food safety concerns. We complained again and had to send it back. What made this even more frustrating was the lack of attention from our waiter. He was not the one who addressed any of our concerns and only came by once to check on us. Instead, the gentleman bussing tables was the one who helped us multiple times and was far more attentive and helpful than our actual waiter. Between the excessive wait time, refusal to seat us when most of the party was present, incorrect orders, poor food safety handling, and lack of proper service, this experience was extremely disappointing. My family and I love The Boiling Crab on 65th Ave in South Sacramento. We come almost every month because the food is always great. The shrimp with the Whole Sha-Bang sauce never disappoints. My 6 year old son enjoys the shrimp with no spice, (garlic buttery). Their michelada is one of the best I have had, and the margarita is just perfect too. The fries might be my favorite of all time. The wait time can be long, but we honestly do not mind because this is our favorite place to eat. For shorter wait time come during the week. read more
