The 1 star goes to the staff and the cleanliness of the place and one food item. I'm most disappointed with the shrimp it was super rubbery and felt like it was premade and then heated up. We got the "special" buy one pound get the next pound free so we did shrimp. We got shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, and dungeness crab with the special blend in one bag. The hook and reel special blend was honestly pretty gross it was sweet, Smokey and not very buttery or salty at all. We asked for lemon pepper and extra butter to put inside(which was an extra charge) it made it a little better but I've definitely had better elsewhere. The garlic noodles were really good they had a soy sauce flavor, garlicky and cheesy. The price was pretty expensive considering I've spent $30 less elsewhere. I was craving a seafood boil and had been wanting to try this place, so I ended up ordering through DoorDash. Overall, I'd say it was pretty decent. The shrimp was good quality--thick, firm, and not soft or soggy like I've had at some other seafood boil spots. My only critique would be the Cajun sauce. It was good, but I think it could be even better with more and larger pieces of garlic to give it a stronger, more flavorful kick. The menu has many selections to choose from. Mainly seafood but they do offer some non-seafood dishes as well. We got The Reel's Catch, Oyster Basket with sweet potato fries, Garlic Noodles with chicken and Chicken Tender Basket. The garlic noodle was kinda dry, needed more sauce. Tasted very garlicky for sure. Chicken tender basket was alright, nothing special or rave about. At least the tenders were not dry. Excellent customer service here. You're greeting at the front and taken to your seat. The inside is spacious and you have the option of sitting by the bar area or the open seating area. We decided to sit by the bar because of the huge TV. There are about six other smaller TVs around the restaurant as well. They have a nice variety of menu items from their boils, gumbo, steak, burger, and appetizers such as calamari and hush puppies. What an unexpected surprise. We stopped in while waiting for my mom to have a procedure finished at Kaiser. It took a few moments to seat us, but that was the only real wait. It was happy hour, on a Friday evening. There was a larger party celebrating a birthday and I think it was just break time before dinner for some of the staff. We were greeted and seated promptly once they finished what they were doing, and our drink and appetizer order taken within moments. The server was pleasant and knowledgeable. Our food came out much more quickly than I'm used to and honestly, it was so good, I didn't even get adequate photos! We had the honey walnut shrimp, a happy hour special, and a couple of drinks. A couple of things made the overall experience hit-or-miss for me. First, the positives--the flavors and seasoning here are honestly really good. The sauces were bold, garlicky, and packed with Cajun flavor, and the oysters were a highlight for me. Super fresh tasting and easily my favorite part of the meal. Where things fell short was the crawfish. We were told it was live crawfish, but it tasted more like it had been frozen for a while -- the texture was pretty rubbery, and it just didn't feel fresh. It was disappointing because the seasoning itself was great, but the quality of the seafood didn't match. The biggest issue though, was finding a fly in our garlic noodles. After that, we were honestly done eating, which put a damper on the whole experience. Overall, I can see the potential here because the flavors are strong and the menu has some winners, but consistency and freshness need improvement. Hook & Reel has officially been added to our seafood boil rotations in the Sacramento area. We've had the chance to check out Hook N Reel two times with our second time being this past weekend. The first time around we went and it wasn't too busy so our food came out faster than expected but this past weekend it was busy and it took a little longer. So definitely plan ahead for those weekend crowds if coming in with a huge party. The service is also pretty good for the most part and everyone is pretty helpful with everything. The restaurant has plenty of seating and also a full bar available. They have plenty of TVs available throughout the restaurant with a huge screen next to the bar. Might check them out during NFL season to catch some games on the BIG screen. One thing I could suggest is lowering the music volume in the restaurant. It gets pretty loud as is with the crowds and with the music you just can't seem to be able to talk to the people in your group. They have a variety of different flavors available to choose from but we have gone with the blended flavor both times and it's been really good. One thing I wish I knew ,was to ask for the noodles on the side for our boil. That was our mistake for not asking if they came inside or out, so that's good to know for future reference. They also offer a variety of different appetizers and dishes so if you're not into the boil scene theirs other options. Overall it's a pretty good spot to check out. Just had dinner here on Friday night. The whole experience was so frustrating due to poor service and poorly trained staff. I ordered the rib eye steak, asked for it to be cooked medium. My friend got a seafood boil. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes, which was surprisingly fast. I cut into my steak right away to check the temp, it was extremely rare. Cut into a different part of steak just to make sure, also rare. When I showed our server she agreed it was rare and took it back to the kitchen. She comes back after talking to the kitchen and tells me the cook said its not rare, its just the marinade that makes it look dark. I'm like, "huh?" Cause that made no sense to me. Still they cooked the same steak another 5-7 minutes before bringing it back. Now it was a perfect medium. It was obvious they just threw the same steak back on the grill, the 2 cuts i made were still visible. All was good till our server came back to check on us, she asked how the steak came out, when I said it was perfect, she continues to insist it was medium well when I sent it back based on what the kitchen told her, several times she made excuses and would not once admit or own up to the mistake despite me showing her the cut piece of steak on my plate. I get it, most of the food here is seafood that's boiled in a plastic bag, but if you're gonna sell a 45$ steak on the menu, at least train your staff properly. read more

I got a side of garlic noodles and also the rice. Garlic noodles came in at 11.99 and the rice was a few dollars for a bowl. Paid a little over 50 bucks for one person. I really liked the taste of the sausage. The spicy hook and reel blend was ok I don't think I'll get it again if I would go here again.
