Tourist trap! This place brings 'em with a very casual crab shack-like atmosphere, quickly ties a bib around the neck, then shakes 'em down for a small fortune. In return, patrons get bad food, terrible service, and an entrapment-type situation. Our experience leads us to believe the business strategy of this place is to rip people off. I write this as a public service to others. There is no rational person who would rate our experience highly. High stars on yelp for this restaurant are clearly the result of an Internet marketing campaign, not actual patron/victims. We sat on the outside patio. Big mistake. Two servers, without a greeting, immediately put ridiculous plastic bibs around our necks and put wax paper on the table. Another server arrived to take our drink order. My date asked what kind of beer they had. "Oh just about everything" the server replied. Humm... How 'bout a menu? I felt the first mosquito bite. Looking ridiculous, trapped at a wax paper clad table, bib around the neck, I thought it might just be a one off, no need to move for a single mosquito bite. We should have moved....no, we should have left. The menu. No beer or wine listed. Menu is almost entirely "market price". No surprise at a seafood place, but they don't post prices anywhere and act like you are being cheap/unreasonable by bothering to ask. Do not make the mistake and think "it couldn't possibly be all that bad, the one item on the menu - the cajun pot - seems a reasonable $17.99...." Think that, and you're done. The servers pretend to not know or actually don't know the prices. Our server mentioned with a snicker, "people complain all the time about their bill but they don't bother to ask about prices". Ha, ha. Imagine managing kids or saving face in front of a first date asking about prices. Is the intentional obfuscation of pricing the subject of server training - perhaps a key part of the rip off strategy at the Boiling Pot (Fulton). Hope no one tries to replicate this model. The food will disappoint, the service will irritate, the mosquitos will bite and you may have to take out a title loan on your car or boat to pay off the bill. How's $48/lb for snow crabs claws in your $17.99 base "cajun pot" work for you? Yes, the super secret, unposted price for crab was $47.99/lb on 9.10.11. The server said the most popular items were "the Super" and the "Super Duper". Both are deviations of the Cajun pot, but add a pound of overcooked shrimp and/or a pound of snow crabs or crawfish. No price was mentioned. I pressed her. "How much for the "super" and "super duper"? I felt a pang of embarrassment using the names. She again rattled off components like an auctioneer. She spoke so quickly I had to do a double take. Getting accurate descriptions and pricing is no easy task at the BP. When pressed, I was able to discern the "Super" and "SuperDuper" were priced at $71.99 and $78.99 respectively. According to the server, they are designed to feed one hungry person or two not so hungry people. It took a lot to get this information. I think the "super duper" is really just a word play on the "duped" feeling a patron will experience if ordered blindly. Maybe it's just me, but a jump from $17.99 to $78.99 should be highlighted. I wanted to order wine and my date still hadn't seen a beer menu so I asked for wine list. In a near tiff, the server took off to find a wine list. When the list arrived, it had no pricing. I eat in restaurants around the country, traveling for both work and pleasure. I try a new restaurant once a week on average. Outside of private clubs, I have almost never seen a wine list with no pricing. I soon found out why. Seems the ole boiling pot management thinks "if you have ask...you probably can't afford it.". Glad I did. The list had some very pedantic wines that most casual wine drinkers would be familiar with - DeVinci Chianti, Blackstone Pinot...under $10 in a supermarket and expect to pay $18 - $25 for in a restaurant. "How much is the Blackstone Pinot noir?" "I think it's about $30". "And the Chiati?" Blank stare... This was too much. "Can I please see a price list?" She disappeared for 10 min then came back with some back-of-house Excel formatted price list. The Blackstone Pinot ($7.99 retail) was $37. Wonder if she'd have noticed me shorting her tip by $7? I didn't order wine. Food : Cajun Pot - salty, loaded with cheap sausage, potatoes, and very little over cooked shrimp and corn. Gumbo - no perceptible seafood, salty and no match for the Chunky soup variety. Don't believe me? Double dog dare you to find out yourself. I'd eaten here years ago (pre-Yelp era) and remember loving it, so I was pretty set on returning for some more crawfish. I was a bit dismayed to read the current reviews which disparaged both the service and prices, but based on past history, decided to take a flier anyway. Initially, we were a bit taken aback when the hostess seated us and only afterward stated "the servers are slammed right now, so it will be about 15 minutes". It wasn't really in the form of a question either, but having come this far, didn't object. Well, no more than about 4 minutes later our server Andrew greeted us in friendly fashion, tied on some bibs, and proceeded to take care of us like rock stars for the next hour. The crawfish were wonderful, although I'd not classify them as "spicy" - that being said, my girlfriend and I enjoy heat on a level that most don't care for. We had a half dozen oysters to go along with our couple of pounds of bugs, and were very happy. The market rate was about $1-$2 more than we'd been routinely paying back home in the Austin area, so we weren't upset about the prices. Just to punctuate the great experience, after settling up and retiring outside to finish our drinks, what appeared to be a manager or owner immediately noticed us standing in the sun and brought out an umbrella to one of the tables to provide some shade - unnecessary, but appreciated! In fact, we returned the next day and received equivalent hospitality (from Alex this time) and this time the mudbugs were up to even our hefty spice levels. Don't be dissuaded by the gravel/shell-covered parking lot and the somewhat rustic appearance of the place - Rockport is an old town, and these guys can bring it on the seafood, as is evidenced that they've been around for years and aren't going anywhere. honestly, i think some of these reviews are plants. i yelped this place, which was recommended by friends in Port A and i just glazed the reviews, summed up by the stars that it was a good bet and away we went. we were so disappointed by it that i fired up the blackberry and took the time to really READ the reviews. they read like cheap ad copy. i suspect someone is getting some perks for big stars reviews. so much for that for me though. here goes: it's Super, like, uber-casual. if you're scrungy from the beach and want food before you get back to your condo, you'll feel perfectly comfortable here... assuming you brought a full wallet. the atmosphere is trailer park -- the prices are penthouse suite. it's weird. the menu is a tiny brochure: one combo and then a'la carte stuff--- we thought the prices were stupid high. To add king crab legs was $47/lb.... whahhh? no. thanks. we got the cajun combo because it was the only thing on the menu, but then i heard the waitress explaining several different off the menu combos to other tables. which kind of pissed me off. The service is majorly slow. it's that kind of town and definitely that kind of place. but let me suggest you order 2 ice teas at a time. we were eating ice waiting for her to come back around with some tea. and the place is like a postage stamp, at least 4 servers were on duty and we couldn't get a styrofoam cup filled up with iced tea. don't believe them about the combo feeding two people unless you're a super model. then it might feed three of you. if you are a regular person, you will need more shrimp. a lot more. and you may as well have them leave out the sausage because it's tasteless with a suspiciously smooth texture (like a cheap eckridge?) and they load the pot with that crappy sausage. it's a fun quirky looking place. if jimmy buffet never made it big and was just a poor beach bum --he would own this restaurant. but i still wouldn't eat there again. read more

This was the most disappointing Cajun restaurant I have ever been to and I've been to a lot. It also was the most expensive Cajun restaurant I have ever been to $10 a pound for crawfish that were so disgusting that 12 Cajuns at a table could not finish two pounds. And believe me we are not the type of people to ever leave food on the table and we left every bit of our food on the table no one finished anything out of 12 people. The most disappointing of all was the $5 blue crab for one small baby probably not even legal size blue crab and a $6 hot dog for a kid which was a cold Oscar Meyer weiner in a white Sunbeam loaf of bread it was the saddest and most pathetic thing I have ever witnessed in a restaurant read more

We visited Monday and it was our first time....it was fantastic!!! We ordered the crawfish, shrimp,corn,potato meal and it was super delicious! The key lime pie was very tart in a good way as well. The family will absolutely return! The atmosphere is really laid back which is super with two kids who loved to color on the paper all over the table....sooo fun! read more

If I lived near here I would eat here every day. The tables are covered with paper and the food is just dumped diretly onto it. Potatoes, sausage, boiled seafood, crawfish.... Delicious! Was recommended this place by my mother. I took a chance and went there. My wife and I's first impression was no greeting by a couple girls standing by the hostess's stand, we had to initiate the conversation about getting a table. We decided to eat inside for our evening, but once we entered there was a fowl smell of either seafood or chemicals. Therefore, we requested to sit outside. We picked inside because of the humidity, heat and bugs, and we understand that the restaurant can't control the environment, but the inside was simply unacceptable with the smell. Therefore, it was hard to eat whilst being bit by mosquitos. (We didn't even finish our meal because of the bugs) The food wasn't horrible, just mediocre, and the seasoning wasn't impressive. It isn't an amazing sign when a seafood restaurant's potatoes and corn are better than the seafood itself. This is an ok place. Very casual with inside and outside dining. A lot bigger than it looks. My friend and I arrived at 6:30 on a Friday and were able to get a table in air conditioning. If you come at 7:00 you might have to wait to be seated. The pot we ordered to share for $19.95 was too much for us to eat. It had one crab, maybe 12 shrimp, 4 1/2 cobs of corn, maybe 10 new potatoes, but mostly sausage. It was very spicy and we loved the taste. Iced tea didn't have enuf ice. We asked for more bread, but didn't get it. Very, very loud. Expect to holler at each other. read more

Really fun little restaurant in Rockport. Very casual and servers put on your bibs/napkins/whatever they're called and introduce you to this place. Just so you know, plates are non-existent, and you get to 'draw' your plate with provided crayons or stick up pieces of your artwork if you'd like! Family and I got the Cajun combo and some oysters; They come with condiments like Tabasco, ketchup, melted butter etc. Seafood here is very fresh! Ok, I don't know what the other reviewer was expecting at a place called the boiling pot, but this is not meant to be a fancy restaurant, it is a great place to have some boiled crawfish, potatoes, corn, crab, sausage, and shrimp. I have a condo in Rockport, and every time I come down I have to go to the Boiling Pot for the food and awesome atmosphere! So throw on a bib, grab a dos equis, and enjoy the delicious food! We have been coming to the Boiling Pot for 7 years! The Gumbo has always been so great but this time it was terrible. No shrimp too much rice. Through waitress said that she would comp it but we drove 3 hours to just eat the Gumbo. The Boudin was okay. I really hate this because we have told so many people how great this place is. We visit Rockport every year and this is always where we go eat. This time however was completely different. The boil was just not good. No flavor. I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy food, I'll admit. But I always love the boil. This time is was not spicy at all. The shrimp was hard to peel. The shell was not popping off like it was fresh. It was tacky and sticky feeling. And once you did that, the shrimp was mushy. They were out of crawfish. The sausage was extra chewy. Some people were coming in as we were leaving and said they heard from another couple it hadn't been good. I will think twice about going there in the future. read more

My wife introduced me to this place and I was in love straight away. It's a really casual place where you can grab a beer or two and enjoy some seafood while you soak up the beachy atmosphere that makes you wanna live in a great little coastal town like Rockport(it's actually in Fulton though technically but close enough). The prices are a little high so we usually only come here every now and then but it's worth it if you are craving some seafood. I'd definitely love to see the restaurant build upwards to have a water view on the second story and also a bit more seating but it is still great even without that. read more

The boiling pot used to be great when they used proper cajun spices for their boiled crawfish. However in the last 5-years the change to some "artsy fartsy" spice that is far feom cajun. I wont say it is terrible, just different, but has nothing to do with Cajun style boiled crawfish. read more

Was told our party of 11 had to sit in the hot enclosed patio, where there was no air condition because the two open tables "were in different sections" really? Finally got seated after I pressed the issue, boil had too many mushy shrimp, waited way too long for drinks, very expensive for what you get. Crab legs were good, hence the two stars. read more

There are basically three choices here. An $18.95 Add craw fish to it and it becomes $27.95 Then it jumps to $67.95 for two different types of crab to that mix. The servings were more like 1 and 1/3 than two people. Service was terrible, drink orders wrong several times, no refills, no hammers for the crab, no sugar for the tea. Had to ask over and over again for these things. Bill was wrong at the end. Waitress had an attitude. Food was so-so, potatoes had large black rotten areas in them. When the food was brought over to us there was no crab and the waitress said she forgot to tell us they were out so they added more sausage and shrimp.... Price should be cheaper too, you are eating off butcher paper, styrofoam cups, and sitting in plastic lawn chairs. read more

Well we had never been to Rockport and found this place here on Yelp. I want to confirm all of the positive reviews here about this place. Our server BRITTANY was excellant and very friendly. The only thing that was a little different was the fact that they bring ur food in a large metal bowl and BAM right in the middle of the table for everyone at ur table to eat from. Any way, the food and the service was excellant. Mind u we got there early in the afternoon. read more
