My intention of this review is to be helpful while keeping the mystique intact. For this experience, you book through OpenTable (https://www.opentable.com/r/the-barrel-bar-indianapolis ). The Barrel Bar is very fast to respond to inquiries through their Instagram account (thebarrelbarindy). Our group has several food allergies and alcohol sensitivities, so before booking, I wanted to confirm they could meet our restrictions (they assured me they could and would). After booking, OpenTable shows that the address will be given but I didn't receive anything for several days and the OCD side of me began to panic. Within 48 hours of our scheduled time, I received an email asking questions that would help to guide the evening to our liking and included the address and parking instructions/tips. The location was easy to find once we knew what we were looking for and had the verbiage needed to locate our experience. Teddy was absolutely, and I cannot stress this enough, PHENOMENAL. Each booking is for up to 6 people (for two hours) so you might end up meeting some strangers for your speakeasy time. We went with another couple and it was just the four of us. This is such a fun concept and the time, effort, thought and research that is put into each experience, shines through and adds to a magical night. Since each event/session is tailored to the group, you won't ever have the same experience twice. The menu changes seasonally and should be changing again in the next couple of weeks. The drinks were unique and intriguing while also being a learning experience. Teddy works to ensure that each group has a great time and walks away having learned something. He is well versed in multiple alcohols and could seamlessly blend and mix depending on your preference. He created multiple cocktails for our group, solely based on asking one or two questions and hit the bulls eye every time. Cocktails not your preference? There are a wide variety of different liquors for you to choose from. Let me tell you about the food; because I mentioned it last, does in no way mean it was least in the experience. The chef who prepared our food was incredibly thoughtful and took our allergies into account and made a delicious board with local cheeses, honey, fruit and vegetables. I wasn't sure what to expect food wise so we made sure to snack ahead of time, but we were pleasantly surprised to find we were given more than one course (some details need to remain a surprise). They also have local beer available, and some snacks. The bar has a door that enters from the mall, but also a door that you can access from the theatre. There are lots of tables here, and it's never crowded. It's usually pretty quiet except for the sound of whatever is playing on the TV above the bar -- usually sports. All of the bartenders that I've encountered have been extremely efficient and friendly. They'll usually ask you what movie you're here to see, or how you're doing, which I don't usually care about but it's nice when they do it here.

Once I walked to the vogue they had security there to check and make sure no one was bringing in any items they shouldn't. It was great that security is there. The security was friendly. After walking into building the space was very big. There were a lot of people in there but everyone was spread out. I love how they had an ADA section for people. There was a bar which the prices were your typical prices for drinks. Overall the experience for the concert was good.

(Which brings to mind certain ... images.) I didn't get any food, just a Road & Coke, which is a whiskey with a Coke and lime, similar to a Cuba libre, although a Cuba uses rum. It was delicious, but a little light on the booze. It was only $5 and change, though, so it's kind of like what do you expect, really. It was a nice drink to sip slowly while I sat in the small, cozy bar. Speaking of bar aesthetics: Snug lives up to its name. It's tiny and dark but inviting. It feels like stepping into a hug. What a venue, what a show, what a night. I was at Nickel Plate District Amphitheater for the Built…read moreto Spill / Yo La Tengo concert, and it was amazing. Live music feeds the soul, and this concert fed me well. I've been listening to Yo La Tengo since high school, and Built to Spill since several years ago, and never did I anticipate that I'd see them in real life. They just lived in my mind and in my headphones as soul-nourishing entities. And yet, I got to see them play live! In Fishers, Indiana, of all places! I love that Nickel Plate District Amphitheater has been able to bring in some top-notch musical artists lately. It's so great to see bands that I consider elite playing so close to home. I don't even know if I should mention this. But, at one point, I left the venue proper, and was standing outside of the barriers. I could hear and see the concert as clear as if I were in the venue! One of the advantages of an outdoor concert venue. So, I don't know: If you happened to walk up to the venue and didn't have a ticket, but you were a big fan of the artist playing, you would get a satisfactory experience even just standing near this outdoor venue. I'm just saying! Nickel Plate makes it easy on its guests to get through the gates. You do not need a clear bag -- any bag will do, but they will check it. You're allowed to bring your own chairs and blankets. They say no outside food and beverages, but I had an unopened bottle of water in my bag, and they didn't say anything about it. Basically, this is a chill venue at which to see music. They don't allow you to bring alcohol, but if you wanted such a thing, there are two tents available with drinks for sale like canned cocktails, beer, sparkling wine and TCH/CBD-infused beverages. They will make you a gin and tonic, if you want. (Ask me how I know! Actually, don't.) There are also food trucks, with some very tasty food options. There's lots of room in the grassy general seating area to spread out. Everyone I came in contact with was super respectful of space. No one stood in front of me and blocked my view like I thought might happen. (This happens to me a lot -- it's all a part of being a shawty.) Overall, Nickel Plate was a great place to see two bands I love in an outdoor space on a perfect-weather day.
