Don't go if you want to enjoy yourself in a peaceful atmosphere. No less than three people were on speaker phones, drowning out the jazz music they had playing. One woman was watching TikTok comedian videos at full volume. The bar staff couldn't be bothered to deal with it. There were children -- like elementary age -- at the bar and the policeman working security had to come in and tell their father they had to leave. The vibe is just awful. Otherwise it's an attractive place and the bartender was good at making cocktails. But for an expensive bar menu, go someplace that you can enjoy without the cacophony of people on speaker phones. read more

I have been here before for happy hour / drinks, but on this particular night we had a private reception for a work event at Plat 99 in the Alexander Hotel. It was stellar. We had about 100 people in from around the country, and it was a perfect setting to show off Indy. The glass lanterns are gorgeous and unique (but up close, could use a little dusting), the staff was friendly, the food and drink were top notch. My husband and I have absolutely had it with this place. We've been going for a few years because they always have unique cocktails on their menu. BUT...it is no longer worth the effort. Why? Well... (a.) They hardly ever actually have all the ingredients to make the unique cocktails they allegedly offer. We have been there MULTIPLE times when they were out of things. We just went on Saturday and ordered a drink that's supposed to be like a s'more. It only had 3 ingredients--one of them was marshmallow creme. Great! My friend and I both ordered one. The server brings it out, and tells us they are out of marshmallow cream--1/3rd of the drink's ingredients. We both taste it and nearly spit it out. Tastes horrible. Clearly needs the marshmallow cream. WHY on earth would you still send it out??? We were dumbfounded. b.) The service is consistently abysmal. Just abysmal. Over the many times we've gone, we've hardly ever actually been greeted by anyone. The bartenders make you feel like you're bothering them. And the servers (IF there are any working, which is a big IF--most of the time you have to go to the bar yourself) are never very friendly or helpful. So we have agreed, we are done with this place. One of my favorite spots in the city! This spot is so special. Coffee shop by day and swanky bar by night, Plat 99 opens up to the lobby of The Alexander Hotel but is open to anyone. The space itself is covered in hanging, colorful glass lanterns that make the room absolutely glow and is lined with windows on three sides. They even have a wonderful, big balcony with fire lamps for people to enjoy in warm weather. Not only is Plat 99 gorgeous (and an amazing spot to take out-of-towners), but the staff some of the most wonderful, warm people in the city as well. They're always smiling, creative and happy to help you out. Here's what Plat 99 offers: Daytime: They serve up Tinker Coffee (local favorite), delicious lattes (oat milk or donut lattes are great) and handmade pastries (almond croissants, chocolate croissants, scones, etc). You are welcome to bring you laptop and use the space for co-working during the day too. It's quiet and peaceful during the day, so is one of my favorite spots to work from. Evening: At about 4/5pm, Plat 99 exchanges coffee for cocktails. They have a craft cocktail menu that offers up classics, as well as seasonal drinks, as well as beers (local and non), wines, and mocktails. They were unfortunately out of cold brew during my visit, but offered up an iced americano which was probably more what I was looking for anyways - soooo delish. I saw them prepping the tea and this is clearly something they take very serious. It is all open leaf tea and comes in a wide variety of flavors. My coworkers enjoying the turmeric mango had great things to say! Both baristas were super patient as I read off orders and had me in and out within minutes! Super grateful. The interior of this gorgeous lobby cafe is transportive! Many spots to sit and read the paper or wait for the day's festivities to start. Plat 99 is the house bar and coffee lounge for the Alexander Hotel. It sits on the second floor overlooking the activity of CityWay. From early morning until 3, it is a coffee and pastry shop. Only after three does it begin offering cocktails and the menu items listed on their webpage for customers to get a side dish or something from the kitchen. Plat 99 has a gorgeous interior which was designed by artist Jorge Pardo who also created all the beautifully shaped and colored lights that hang inside and out into the lobby/stairway that leads up to the lounge. (Note that elevators are available on the other side of the lobby.) Inside the lounge, the bar area forms a central rectangle with a number of small tables all around for guests to nestle into. Note that there are no bar stools and no waitress service (at least during the coffee shop hours.) The woman behind the counter was very pleasant and was able to converse while getting my Tinker Coffee (ready to drink!) and offered to heat my cranberry muffin for me. Both were excellent! The atmosphere was very open with windows all around the lounge. Quite different than a lot of closed off coffee houses I've been to. I will definitely have to come back during the evening hours to check out the bar for their house cocktails. I've had some at their annual Miracle on South Street pop-up and enjoyed those. I've always been intrigued by the decor and decided to stop in for a cocktail. The ambiance is nice/relaxing with plenty of seating. I ordered a dirty gin martini and had to send it back, too sweet, like they used sweet vermouth or something should have had very little dry vermouth, if any. A different bartender made the second one, it was okay. Also, I think the bar staff could present themselves more professionally. If I'm ordering a nice cocktail in a lovely hotel, I expect more than washed out denim overalls with a loose strap hanging off the shoulder from the bartender. It's a hotel bar, not a farmer's market. This was a weekend evening and all the patrons were dressed well. The staff should at least meet or exceed these standards. read more

I just love the lanterns... I do... they are so cool to look at. That said... I love their current drink line up. The Bing Bong by Justun is it folks, that drink just has it all, booze, taste, looks, drama, entertainment... yes all of that from a drink. Gin and grapefruit based, with a giant iceball in a tall glass, dry ice figures in there somewhere and the whole thing bubbles up and looks like it's boiling and steaming like a witches cauldron. All that while it tasted light and refreshing, perfect summer time drink. It will kick you sooner or later, depending on how many you drink. Which brings us to the ups and downs of a seasonal menu... while it's fun to experience and try new things, when you find something you love and then they'll take it away from you forever... that's just painful. So when the Bing Bong goes away... whatever will I do? Guess I'll have to hire Justun as a personal mixologist so he can keep supplying me with this stuff... Food here is great. If you follow any bloggers/influencers in Indy, you've likely seen a picture from the patio of Plat 99 or the infamous butterfly just across the street on Delaware. The Alexander is no stranger to unique art/photo opportunities, so it's no surprise that Plat 99 follows suit (located inside the hotel). Whether you're popping in at the end of your evening or just getting started, you'll have plenty of choices to satisfy your groups palette. Their signature plates step it up and offer a zing that you won't soon forget! The sliders are out of this world, but I say go for the Mango Shrimp lettuce wraps and save room for one of their delectable desserts. Smoked Maple Whiskey chocolate mousse? Who can say no to that?! The view, overlooking the Southside of town and Lucas Oil Stadium is a pretty nice way to show off your fair city. And they have this ridiculous rule that you cannot take a drink bought at Plat 99 to Nesso. Definitely has feel of a hotel bar. Might be nice outside in the summer, but otherwise better advised to get your cocktails at the bar in Nesso. read more

First of all, the decor here is so fun and cozy. All of the creative lights and colors/shapes make for an eclectic feel. This has always been a place I've passed but never been to. We came here after engagement pictures & dinner. It definitely made for that classy romantic cozy feel we were looking for. The drinks are incredible. The cocktail menu was full of so many creative flavor combinations but ultimately we ordered the signature carrot cake cocktail and the chai tea cocktail, which were delicious. This is such a beautiful space. I've come here for two events in 2020 and I'm so glad I did. They have a delicious coffee bar with local roasters options. I love the tinker oat milk latte. I've been here for coffee several times and enjoy the sunny and bright atmosphere and friendly service. Before 3pm you can get bottomless drip coffee, and after 3pm, cocktail service starts. For breakfast there are usually creative pastries and scones as well as some parfaits and cold drinks in the cooler.
