The Keg was really good. I recommend stopping in and checking them out. Bar downstairs as well as more seating for dining upstairs.

If you're looking for a classy, luxurious experience, you're in luck! The service is fantastic! Even though my order was a bit off, they fixed it right away, and the food is delicious! Their mashed potatoes are a hit, but my prime rib sandwich was a bit underwhelming--more like a regular Philly cheesesteak. We were there on a busy night, the day before New Year's Eve, and our friend made the reservations, so I think reservations are a must. Parking can be tricky, but the lobby is nice for waiting, and the bathrooms are clean. read more

3.5 stars. I came here for prime rib, but they were out so I went with the 8oz. top sirloin with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies (green beans and beets). The sirloin was fine, but I felt I could have made the same thing at home. The mashed potatoes and the free fresh bread and butter were really good. Service was great and attentive. Our tour group stayed here for five days. We had their buffet breakfast. It was pretty extensive, and well stocked. The servers were kind of hit and miss, but it seemed that maybe they were either young or overwhelmed at times. We also had a team dinner here one night, which was fabulous. We had excellent grilled beets and zucchini, and chicken and steak (both of which were done perfectly) and an enormous piece of cheesecake for our dessert. All were delicious. We had a dinner here by ourselves and had the prime rib dinner. This was kind of underwhelming. The bread was excellent, as was the salad, but the prime rib seemed under seasoned. The mushroom rice was also under seasoned. But the crème brûlée for dessert was absolutely fabulous, one of the best I've ever had. So, hit or miss sometimes. read more

Really enjoyed The Keg during my time in Banff! The entrees are filling and have a delicious variety of flavors. I loved the pistachio crusted salmon, but it was a tad sweet for salmon - I think there was honey on it as well? The bread is to die for, and the Billy miner pie is sooo yummy. We came here for dessert even on nights where we didn't come here for dinner because the pie is just that good. One night it was a tad melty and seemed like it spent some time under the heat lamp, but otherwise we always impressed with the food and service! The drinks are delicious and marketed well during happy hour. I think it's so cool that you can put your meal on the room across several hotels in the area, and the staff are all trained the same across locations. 10/10 experience for sure, I'll be back! read more

Decent place for Canadian food I guess. I would say this is more like 3.5 stars but I'll round up. I was there with 4 people and service was not bad. I got the steak sandwich. Maybe I should have asked for medium rare. Open sandwich with several big chunks of steak and onion rings on top. Tip: just use fork and knife. Too messy to eat big chunks of steak by hand. One piece was really tender but some pieces were tough. Bread was really excellent with great mushroom sauce. Caesar salad was great. read more

The place looked nice, and the staff was pretty nice too. My issue is that they served me a steak that was tougher than a leather boot. My sides and salad were decent but the steak was probably the worst one I've ever had Edit: I will say that since I posted this, the management at the keg has reached out to me and made up for the situation. They've made it quite clear that this is atypical and that they took the complaint very seriously. Stopped in for a fun meal in the cozy bar after a long drive & were seated in a perfect corner table next to the fireplace on a chilly evening, so ambience was perfect! We proceeded with cocktails from their rather large menu & while the mint julep was not up to snuff, the old fashion's were great. We ordered from the Keg special that included your meat ( got a filet) salad ( delish iceberg wedge), choice of potato styles ( garlic mashed... duh), grilled veggies & mushrooms with a side of bernaise. This was one of the better buffet breakfast places I tried in Canada. For $20 Canadian, you got sausage and American bacon, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, eggs Benedict, hash browns, oatmeal etc. they had a yogurt station with four types of yogurt to scoop out. Also included was a fruit bar with a variety of pre-cut fruit (including strawberries and pineapple) and take away fruit like apples. I am a fussy coffee drinker, and places usually skimp on the coffee. Not here. They had a really tasty, flavorful coffee and a person who regularly asked to offer more. read more

I typically love the Keg chain; I've had pleasant experiences in Vancouver and even the other location at downtown Banff. However, on the last day of our trip we decided to try out the Keg at Caribou Lodge. We were first disappointed to find out that this location does not serve the famous three-cheese butter that typically comes with the bread. We asked our waitress about it (she is very nice which is why I gave two stars instead of one), and so she asked the other staffers about the butter. One of the workers began speaking very loudly to our waitress about how they don't serve that here, and that the other Keg at downtown Banff chooses to do so, claiming that "there's a reason why the downtown Keg is shutting down and not this one". Super unprofessional and uncalled for; especially as the downtown Keg has always been incredibly courteous and genuinely cares for their customers. We also received overcooked steak in the Baja salad order--asked for a medium-well and received a rubbery well-done instead. Overall, I would suggest that you go eat at the other Keg at downtown Banff before they close within the next couple of months. They actually keep up the Canadian reputation of being friendly and serve amazing food. It's too bad it's not this one that's closing. read more

Dinner excellent steak cooked exactly as asked with al dente veg. I wasn't too hungry so got a baked potato with sauté veg- really excellent. Various servers but all extremely congenial. We went here for our wedding anniversary while on holidays in Banff. We made a reservation online a few days before. Was an easy process. The waiter was friendly and overall very good - though he did forget to ask us what we wanted to drink. Only 4 days on the job, so forgivable. I had a full rack of ribs. They were very good. My wife had the "baseball" steak. It too was very good. As it was our anniversary we were given a complimentary ice cream dessert which was excellent. Overall a very good experience. We enjoyed it very much. We DID NOT order the Sirloin Oscar because we used to own a parrot named Oscar, and ordering that Sirloin just seemed wrong. read more

I ordered my first filet medium rare and it was presented as well done and overly salty! I sent it back and the second one came out medium and unbelievably salty!! It was stringy and a very poor cut of meat. One of my friends steak was also very salty and he didn't like it at all. We came here twice during our stay in Banff. Both times we were only somewhat hungry. Both times we ordered a bottle of wine which was excellent. First time we ordered the Brie and Cauliflower steak since my friend is a vegetarian. I can't even describe how awful the cauliflower steak was... I can't even believe it's on the menu. It was AWFUL. Baked Brie is AMAZING our favorite! Make sure to order extra crackers. 2nd time around we decided to try the fried cauliflower; It sounded really good! It would have been good if they had fried it properly but they fried it so long it was black and burnt and just turned to powder... see picture. Our service both times was excellent and the BEST part about this place. Stay away from the veggie options. Stick with the basics. Saturday night in the bar there was only 1 server for 6+ tables... he was beat up. Clearly this is management's fault but we felt bad for him and tipped 25% since he got the fried cauliflower off our bill. After going to the Keg for years and always getting consistently great food. I was at the Banff Keg tonight and ordered my regular, Prime Rib and added a lobster tail. I had exactly 7 bites off the prime rib and the rest was fat and This is what I got for a lobster tail for $16 (picture attached) with my burnt onion strings. I sent the lobster back, ate some of the garlic mashed potatoes because I was still hungry. The 2 keg sized caesars were fantastic and helped me get through the rest of the experience. To be fair, they took my meal off the bill but I was so excited to go to the Keg and it just fell very flat, huge disappointment. My first breakfast I arrived when they opened at 6:30. The buffet was packed with a tour so I ordered off the menu. My food was not delivered until 7 am - so totally unacceptable. Next two times I ate breakfast here I ordered the buffet, and the food was way over priced for the quality and variety. For dinner I once had a steak salad, and another time a burger. The burger was one of the worst I've had in a long time - would have been better off at McDonalds but this burger was $20. Strongly recommend you avoid Keg in Caribou hotel. read more

We were looking for a steakhouse in the style of supper clubs back home. Reading the menu, this place looked like it. Upon entering and getting seated, we already knew it was. Started with drinks, which their Manhattan was crazy good. Then appetizers. Salads were good, but the Mushroom Neptune was amazing. Like I would eat just that for and entire meal and walk away happy. Then our prime ribs came, and were perfectly done with great dipping sauce and perfectly done sides. Finished everything off with a nice shot of espresso. I have always enjoyed my meals at both Kegs in Banff and I have always gotten a warm, friendly reception. The service has always been A1. Any time I asked questions or advice I got a complete and satisfactory response. In fact, the reason I go to the Kegs anywhere is that I get consistently good meals and excellent service. My usual go to is the prime rib and Caesar salad but if I was exceptionally hungry I would add a lobster tail or king crab. I have tried on other occasions the escargots, calamari, French onion soup, shrimp cocktail, filet mignon, baseball top sirloin, blue cheese filet and peppercorn New York. They used to have salmon on a plank which I thoroughly enjoyed. Too bad it's no longer on the menu. Both restaurants are fairly large and the decor is very relaxing. Never ordered any dessert as I was usually too full or saved room to have coffee and dessert elsewhere. Needed time to walk off the meal in Banff. Hope you have the same experience. read more

Tasted the same as the food in Edmonton but somewhat did not enjoy it. I find The Keg a "fine dining" place but this one in banff does not scream that. It is old and def needs a facelift. That sort of changed the mood for me. It felt like i was dining in an old biker house bar. I had high expectations since i had tried three different keg outlets at edmonton. Busy busy busy! A hopping place and for good reason; we had very good and well cooked steaks. I said I wouldn't finish it but when I left it was gone. The food isn't cheap but this is a tourist town. Our waiter hustled his butt the entire time and gave us good service. He brought out several tastes of wine so my wife could decide which one she wanted (I drank the samples...) and recommended a very good local beer to go with the steaks. We're staying at the Caribou Lodge, got in late so decided to have dinner here in the hotel. What a nice surprise. Had a nice bottle of J Lohr chardonnay followed by red meat...teriyaki sirloin and small filet. Both done exactly as ordered with a generous portion of roasted vegetables. I went there for dinner last night and was seated in the lounge area by a window. I started with a Caesar salad and a complimentary loaf of bread. I had the top sirloin steak medium rare with twice baked potato and asparagus for sides. I tried to finish a brownie for dessert, but was too full so I took it home for later. I enjoyed the meal and the waitress was hospitable and attentive filling up my glass and checking in on me several times. I went back for s second night and had the roasted chicken with mashed garlic potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were burned so the waitress ordered a new side on the fly and quickly fixed the problem. read more
