He got me the West Baton Rouge Families Book by the West Baton Rouge Genealogical Society in Port Allen, Louisiana. The Book is very excellent and it started me out knowing something of my great-great grandparents and my great-grandfather that was his son, I puchased other books, read articles and obits, and researched about him for over a year. When I went into the museum, no one mentioned there was an entrance fee. I went there to buy more books, The person who helped me was very efficient and knowledgeable. I told him what book I had already, the Families book. Nonetheless, he took me in back and copied stuff from the Caire file and gave it to me. it looked like a lot more than what could have been in the book and I thought it was different. I gave him $20 for going out of his way to assist me and making copies. When I got home, I tore up the copies immediately because I realized they were what my family already spent a lot of money to buy as they were part of the Families book. I am very upset that this happened to me at the museum. I would have never accepted the copies had he told me he was copying what I already had from in the book (some pages). I am going to send in registration because I did not realize that there was an admittance fee. I am giving the museum a 2-star rating rather than 5 because I am so upset that the fellow gave me those copies which I do not think he should have, assumed he would not do something he should not, and I am very, very upset about it. I gave it 2-stars rather than one because the books are good and I really appreciate them. I am willing to share what I have researched and gathered about this line if there is interest; however, everyone left that area. I do not know if there is interest. When the guy took me in the back, I saw there was an amazing mural of the area from 1925. That was incredible! It really must have taken a long time to paint such a large item. And it was great quality.

The Blues Festival is a great event in April in downtown Baton Rouge that has a little something…read morefor everyone. Some years there are some really big names that come in, others it is more local talent exposed. I've tried to get down there every year, and it's fun to see how the event has blossomed. There are more local artisans selling down there now which is great. There are also numerous food trucks and vendors so you absolutely will not leave hungry. There are four stages where you can set up and catch all sorts of groups. It's a very friendly vibe all around. I did feel like there was a disconnect this year with communication. I did not see as much advertising around the city until the week of, and I know several past attendees who were not aware of the date and missed it due to scheduling conflicts. It was also not publicized more than a day or two in advance that the bike corrals would be there again with a safe spot to leave your bike if you chose to ride down there. I spoke to the group over that and they hadn't been given much notice either. I tried to ask a couple of questions on social media but the link it kept sending me to was either broken or I wasn't sure if it would send me where I needed to go. Overall, it's a great event that exposes you to lots of talent, and I do look forward to it every year!

Another successful event in the Baton Rouge's Mid-City District! Very similar to the White Light Night Event (during the holiday season), it's free and something for the whole family to come out and enjoy. If you want to try to hit up the neighborhood from end to end, you may have to start as soon as they get going, map out all the businesses you are going to hit (with the help of the Yelp bookmarking feature) and time everything precisely. There is a lot to see, a lot to explore and so many awesome folks to meet. Tonight I met many influential people in the community including Mr. Mayor himself, Kip Holden, who is always a pleasure to run into. Don't forget to ride the shuttles to help you get from point A to point B. I know there are always a bunch of events happening in Baton Rouge now, but this is definitely one not to miss. Set up all the canvas, easels, did & got the cake ready, punch ready, everything well planned out and organized. All we have to do is show up! We had the kids paint Olaf the snowman from Frozen. They loved it. Md Denise was wonderful with the kids they all paid attention to her and all the little snowman paintings turned out so cute. It was great that at the end of the day the kids went home with their own unique creation. I highly recommend this place. They were pleasant to work with and the kids had such a great time we will definitely be back.

There are activities on the first and second floor. There are things to do and see and get dirty and get all hands on, both inside and outside. The staff are so friendly. The ones who are working in certain hands on areas are very good about maintaining clean working environments not just for themselves, but for the children as well. You have everything from stem learning areas to the artist garden, and the pelican pottery area. There is an area where kids learn about bubbles and the Girl Scouts had an event today where they were learning about the solar system. There is just so much for kids to see and do here. Admission is $15 but I can tell you, it is worth absolutely every penny. If I lived any closer, I would easily pay the $100 for the membership. That would be entirely worth it. There is this one structure that looks like a bunch of piled up both open and closed books. It is actually a climbing structure for the kids. It extends from the base floor all the way up to the second floor, which is the main level. It is quite a sight to see your child hook their head up from the structure up and over the guard rails on the second floor. The kids here were so friendly. They were very friendly and no one was pushy. The parents are also allowed to climb on the structure. That was pretty cool. I don't know about you, but I don't trust my knees. I would rather not slide or fall off anything that I really shouldn't have had any business climbing up all over on anyway. We met some really great people here. We had such an amazing & lovely time here!
