It's a very large property, and serves many purposes and hosts many events. It's a great resource that our city is very lucky to have. There are gardens and research facilities here associated with LSU, there are historical buildings and artifacts from Louisiana, then there are forests and wetlands, these are linked by roads and hiking trails. There's lots to see, and there are various events to participate in. One of these events is the new Louisiana Lights Festival which is a holiday-themed light show. It's impressive already and it's just getting started. Each year will bring more to this event! Another great event is the fall festival with its corn mazes, petting zoos, hay rides, and other fall fun activities. There are different events throughout the year, one need only check the website to be informed. There's really something for everyone here, from agriculture, horticulture, children's playgrounds, hiking, history, or just a place to have a picnic, this facility is there to meet the needs of the community. It's something that our residents and visitors should be aware of and utilize!

Besides just looking at nature or going on a nature walk for free, there are several events that take place here regularly. Junior League has a kid-friendly event under the outdoor the gazebo each month, there is the Louisiana Lights event in December, and a corn maze in Oct. This place is huge! There is a meeting place, which is easily accessible when you pull in. There are also places to stop and sit and go to the restroom. A great place to explore!!

There is also a museum called the Rural Life Museum that also charges a small admission fee. This is a nice small piece of Heaven in the middle of Baton Rouge. The sunflower field was a magical place to visit. There are many walking trails. You can even rent out s building for weddings and parties. I will definitely be revisiting this beautiful place again! So many different cuisines with price ranging from $15-35 all around Baton Rouge. It's just foodie fanatic's dream week! Unfortunately, I don't think anyone can put a dent in trying all these restaurants (that only open special menus for dinner seating) in just 6 days; it's impossible. Now, if it was Restaurant Month, then a completely different story may emerge. I have participated in Restaurant Week multiple times and always enjoy the choices and especially love the prices for the number of courses I received. Fortunately for us here in Baton Rouge, Restaurant Week is offered twice a year: January & July. If you have never tried it before or never even heard of it, you must jump on the bandwagon. The video that you can watch is very informational. They tell you all about the building of the structures, the quarters and the craftsmanship that went into the erecting of these homes. The home is made of cypress mostly, and timber underneath. The building is raised up above the ground to allow due floods, storms, and so forth. It also helps to increase air flow throughout the home. I could probably go on for a while about what I've learned during g my short time here today. I enjoyed the gift shop: postcards, magnets, books, some light clothing items and other novelties. This plantation is not only beautiful, it's also so nicely managed and maintained. The folks working here are so sweet and so welcoming. This is a real gem.

I couldn't pay by my smartphone and credit card! This meter was some vintage one. I would like to put the meter to the museum. LOL. I really enjoyed everything! I saw exhibitions of Huey Long, Louis Armstrong, and other people in Louisiana. I found some old Japanese (phonograph) record of Louis Armstong. That was amazing. I went upstairs. I really learned about the history and geography of Louisiana. Louisiana has a lot of fo fun such as Jazz, Mardigrass, Cajun food, etc.. Please visit this museum and learn about the culture!

It's engaging enough to spend a solid amount of time exploring, especially if you're already visiting other museums in the area. That said, certain parts of the museum felt a bit repetitive - almost like carbon copies of exhibits you might see at the Old State Capitol or other nearby museums. If you're doing multiple stops, you might notice some overlap. Still, the admission is very affordable, which makes it an easy and worthwhile stop overall.

Pointe Coupee is so named because of the cutoff point the Native Americans referred to as a way to take off three days of river travel in one day and then with the regular floods of the Mississippi, this is where the river moved to.

From start to finish, there were live musicians and dancers (from Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee and more). I am a huge supporter of what Henry Turner, Jr. does for the music culture of Louisiana. His music and the artists he brought on board were truly talented, which amplified his love for the city of Baton Rouge. I know how hard he worked to make this show happen and I would love nothing more than for it to grow bigger each year. This festival happens yearly before, during and after the largely popular Spanish Town Parade in downtown Baton Rouge. Plus, it is family-friendly and is in the giant open space of Galvez Plaza on North Blvd Town Square. Food, retail vendors and even some entertainment for the kiddos made for a great way to spend the day celebrating Mardi Gras!
