I genuinely do not like leaving bad reviews, especially because I've been coming here for almost two years, but today was quite literally my final straw. I've gone here consistently since moving to St. Louis for haircuts, root touch-ups, color, all of it. I also truly do not care who I'm assigned to. I'm not one of those clients who needs one specific stylist every single time. I just expect basic communication, decent service, and for my appointment to actually make sense when I arrive. Coordination! Unfortunately, the vibe here has always felt off The front desk is rarely welcoming. Half the time, no one greets you, acknowledges you, or makes you feel like they are happy you're there. The energy can feel very cliquey, dismissive, and honestly kind of performative. It gives "we're all a family here," but somehow the client is not included in the family. I've overlooked a lot because I liked the actual hair services. I've waited 30 minutes past my appointment time before. I've had appointments moved around. One time, I was sent to the Webster Groves location, got there, and was then told I actually needed to go to Des Peres because they could not take me. Like...okay gas?? But today was what officially did it for me. I booked a root touch-up before a photo shoot tomorrow and a trip next week. I sent pictures and a description of what I wanted directly to the stylist beforehand. I've also had this exact type of service done through this salon multiple times, usually for around $250, so this was not some random mystery appointment. I arrived and waited around 30 minutes to be assisted, only to then be told it would cost over $400. And to be very clear, I am not asking anyone to lower their prices, undervalue their work, or change their hourly rate for me. Charge whatever you charge. That is fully your business. My issue is: why was none of this communicated nor coordinated before I showed up? You had my appointment details. You had the pictures. You had my description. You had my client history from the past two years. If the service was now going to cost almost twice what I normally paid, or if I had supposedly booked the wrong category, somebody should have figured that out before I arrived, waited 30 minutes, and left with absolutely nothing done. Even the stylist seemed surprised by how I had apparently been charged or categorized during previous appointments, which honestly just made the whole situation feel even more disorganized. That is an internal coordination issue, not something that should suddenly become the client's emergency while they are sitting in the chair So now I have a photo shoot tomorrow, a trip next week, and no hair did or done because this salon could not communicate beforehand. After nearly two years of being a loyal client, I'm done overlooking the rude front desk energy, the scheduling confusion, the long waits, and the constant lack of coordination. The actual talent may be there, but the overall experience is not. I will not be coming back. Respectfully, the vibes are not worth $400+. read more

I did not want to leave this review, but after paying $700 and leaving with severely damaged hair, I feel obligated to warn others about my experience. I went to this salon because a stylist I had been seeing for over a year moved here. She had been maintaining my cherry cola color for about a year, and when she moved to The Boulevard, I told her I wanted to start the process of going back to my natural level 6 brown. I understood that removing red is a process and specifically told her I was completely fine doing it over multiple appointments. I also asked if we could keep the first appointment within a certain timeframe because I had dinner plans, and she agreed. My appointment was scheduled for noon. When I arrived, I sat alone for 30 minutes without being greeted, consulted, or acknowledged by anyone before my stylist finally came over. The appointment ultimately lasted 7 hours, and I had bleach on my hair for approximately 3 hours. When I left, my hair was severely damaged. In fact, my stylist knew it didn't look right because as I was leaving, she told me to "wear a ponytail to dinner." That is not something you say to a client who just spent hundreds of dollars and received a successful service. I have since shown photos from that appointment to other licensed cosmetologists, and multiple have told me the damage was evident as soon as the foils came out. I have always taken excellent care of my hair, use professional products, and have never experienced damage like this. My hair is now rough, difficult to manage, and completely different from how it felt before. I can't run my fingers through it, my natural texture is gone, and it is genuinely unrecognizable to me. I was so upset that I spent the entire weekend crying and had to miss work on Monday. When I called the salon Monday morning, I was told the owner would contact me. I never received a call. When I called back two hours later, the owner suddenly answered. She offered a free treatment if I came in immediately, but the first thing she said to me in person was, "It's not that bad." After spending two days devastated over the condition of my hair, that was incredibly dismissive and upsetting to hear. The owner then told me that the original stylist would perform my next treatment and that I could pay for a new color service. I explained that after what happened, I believed I deserved both a refund and a corrective color service. The stylist refused a refund, and offered the color service for free. I agreed to this, and then stylist put red back on my hair, leaving me looking almost exactly as I did before I started this process, except now my hair is badly damaged and I am out $700. I came to this salon because I trusted my stylist and trusted the salon to guide me through this process responsibly. Instead, I have walked out feeling worse every single time. The most disappointing part is that the owner never apologized, never took accountability, and never made a meaningful attempt to make this right. I wish I had never come here. I am now left paying for the damage done to my hair, and multiple people who have seen the condition of it have told me I should pursue legal action because of how severe the damage is. read more

Terrible customer service. I was charged for a haircut that I didn't receive. My first visit to the Boulevard was three weeks ago, and I had a cut and style, which cost over $100. I also scheduled a foil for three weeks later at that appointment. I had my foil and was charged over $220.00 for it, which was high, but I let it go. When I received my receipt via email, I discovered that I had also been charged for a cut. They evidently automatically include a cut in the package, but I was not informed of that when I had my cut three weeks prior and made the appointment for a foil. They told me there was nothing they could do after the fact, and it is their policy, and sorry. If I had known of this policy, I would have done the cut and foil at the same time. read more

I think I've recommended this place to at least 5-6 of my friends who all have had fantastic experiences! My go to girl is Reanne and I have only great things to say about her. She works hard to give you the hair color that you want even if it needs to be retoned. The way that she cuts my hair is the ONLY way I want it to be cut and if I ever move I'll come back to STL for her. Aside from her skills, she's a bundle of joy and I love chatting with her. The location itself is great and the support staff have always been genuinely sweet. I went there for a corrective color. I was apparently with a master colorist who charged $200 an hour.. She blocked four hours of time to strip my hair of color using a vitamin C treatment. She was 30 minutes late for the appointment. Not much of the color was lifted and I was charged for the full four hours, which ended up being over $800 including the tip. It's highway robbery because I went into CosmoProf and got the same vitamin C treatment for seven dollars a packet . And the manufacturers of the product have a how to video online to train hairstylist how to do it so my friend who is a hairstylist ended up doing it herself. Boulevard used to be reasonable but now it's just a pretentious, overpriced and mediocre quality salon. I recommend that anybody do their homework before going to these places and getting ripped off as bad as I did. read more

Booked the highest level hair stylist for my haircut thinking she would be good at cutting hair. I wanted my hair a few inches shorter to cut split ends and get layers. She completely thinned my hair, cut my hair shorter than I wanted, choppy uneven layers. I also have split ends after all the hair that was cut off, her blade might of been dull or something but my hair came out bad. Got it fixed by her thinning my hair even more. I had long straight/wavy thick hair with even layers to make sure my hair was easy to take care of. Now my hair looks so bad, I can't even straighten since you can see how botched it is. Now I'm just trying to grow my hair out so I can get my hair even and thick again. Update: was offered to come in a 3rd time to have an owner even up my hair, but the problem wasn't just the uneven length, it was that she thinned out my hair like crazy, and cut out a chunk of my hair in the back of my head, making a section a lot shorter than the rest of my hair. Making my hair shorter in the back and very chunky looking. My hair before this was long with short layers, almost all one length. I wasn't offer a refund or anything after this experience. I have curly hair and I straighten it, so we always cut it dry and they've done an amazing job. I also recently started getting grey hair and they've done a beautiful job with color. My hairstylist, Sam, has always done an amazing job! I've gone to her since the beginning of 2020, and I have NEVER gone away from an appointment disappointed. Sam always sees the vision I am wanting for my hair and executes it well. I HIGHLY recommend going to Sam for any and all hair needs. I have done pretty much everything with my hair with Sam. She has bleached my hair to platinum blonde, then completely brunette (with a shag hairstyle), and now finally a copper color! Kennedy has been my stylist twice now, and both times have been amazing. First time visiting the BLVD and I would like to say it was a lovely experience. The front desk staff were warm and welcoming (especially as a newcomer). The salon itself was clean and chic. There was some construction happening at the time of my visit, but it didn't completely deter from my experience. I scheduled my appointment with Steffie whom I would highly recommend. As a black woman stepping foot into a predominantly white beauty salon, she easily provided a sense of comfort and understanding regarding my insecurities of the environment as well as the care of my hair. My request was for a trim and clean up to my existing cut with added color. She made sure to explain the process and recommendations of the coloring, took the time to ensure there was nourishment for my curls, was delicate with my hair and scalp, and took the time to explain to me how to better care for my hair outside of appointments. Now, she's not cheap! But she's very knowledgeable about hair care, she's not afraid to ask questions, and she radiates pride and a sense of purpose in what she does. I went to another area favorite salon, twice. I was very happy with my first cut and color, but spent almost $400 with tip. The second color and cut I received was a disaster- with tip, it cost over $300, and it was with a stylist in training. (No hate on stylists in training, I just felt a bit cheated financially. My hair looked really bad and the poor stylist knew it.) I decided to try The Boulevard after that experience. First, their prices are much more competitive and affordable, even with their top stylists. Second, their site and scheduling program is great. I easily scheduled the best appointment time I could get for a cut and color, with the first stylist I could, Jessica Rayman. Oh my goodness. I have THICK, wavy/curly, difficult hair. Jessica picked the perfect color for me and gave me the best cut I've ever had. I asked for a shag cut and I LOVE it. It is so low maintenance, she thinned my hair a bit, and I left the salon with a cut I could easily style. I have never felt good about my hair until now. I love my hair. Each time I've gone back to her she's done just as excellent of a job. With plenty of product, a cut, color, and a nice tip, I never spend over $300. I've turned my family on to The Boulevard and now THEY love their stylists and their hair. Stephanie did my grandma's hair (and did a great job)- my grandma has SEVERE social anxiety and Stephanie left her feeling great about herself and comfortable enough to go back alone. So this is going to be a very blunt review in hopes that I can help someone else. I am from out of town & travel so much for work I don't have time to get my hair done at home. So I looked at reviews and decided to give Boulevard a chance. I booked with a top tier hairstylist thinking what could go wrong?? I'll let you decide. I spent over $300 with tipand about 4-5 hours and this is what I left with. Brassy with very hard demarcation lines. However the front is beautiful, hence why I did not notice it until I went home. I made an appointment to fix it, but I have had to wear my hair up with a very wide headband to hide it every day. I'll update the review once this has been made right. UPDATE: I don't feel comfortable naming the original hairstylist, but I did ask for a new stylist for my second appointment. This time I had Vita, and she did an AMAZING job fixing my hair... I can't say enough good things. I was very nervous, but she beyond exceeded all expectations. Vita gets a 10/5, but Boulevard as a whole still gets 4/5 for this happening in the first place. read more

"Elevated GreatClips" would be my summary. Wish I had read more of the negative reviews and taken them to heart. The pricing was not indicative of a "muh" haircut and color. The results are "muh" at best. Felt like I was in a game of "beat the clock". Stylist didn't attempt to get to know me at all. The cut took all of 5 minutes. I was in a bit of shock that she was done. Trying to decide if I should go back and have her even out the back and attempt to make it look less choppy but really don't want the stylist touching my hair again. Just because someone is called a Master Designer and charges master designer prices means that they will give you a master designer color and cut. The place is nice and the people are sweet. But if you have curly hair, I would not recommend it. I have been there two different times and both times were disappointing. I paid $55 expecting a haircut and a blow out. How is the haircut? I don't actually know because the blow out was so bad, they left the hair on the bottom that was close to my scalp almost completely curly. Not the place for a perm! Very disappointing after having a consultation and discussing expectations up front. Those expectations were not met at all, so we met with a manager for follow up who just suggested a wash/condition. This gave me back my original waves thank goodness but no change from baseline. There's a pic of my original hair (wavy), another immediately after perm dried and the waves on my ends had been straightened (no wetting, brushing, products, etc), and a third pic is after my first wash/condition (I use devacurl products). No good change, I want my previous hair back! (And they were unable to schedule me for a haircut which is supposed to be included with the service). read more

This was my second time to the Boulevard. My first time was back in January before COVID hit, so my hair was definitely due for some work! I saw Karen and got a nice chop and balayage. She was so great to work with! She explained everything she was doing, matched my roots perfectly so it blends as my hair grows out, and made my gross COVID hair lively again. The salon did an excellent job with their COVID precautions and I felt completely safe during my visit. Each station was separated from one another and the equipment, chairs, etc. were cleaned after each use. Everyone wore face masks throughout the visit and upon entry, temperatures were taken, hands were washed at a washing station, and a waiver was signed. Overall an excellent trip and I wouldn't hesitate to come back even with the pandemic. The Boulevard truly made me feel pampered while still feeling safe during the pandemic. read more

I have medium length hair and normally pay around $250, I was charged $400 and somehow left with my roots looking worse than they did when I came in. Beware that her prices online are not accurate to what she will charge you!!!!! All I wanted was my roots touched up and a one inch trim.
