I highly recommend The Bountiful Cow to anyone living in or visiting the Holborn area in London! I found it on Yelp (my go to app for finding restaurants) and thought the menu looked decent, so I booked a reservation. We got there and it was a small, clean-looking place, a little off the main road. It is interestingly decorated, but nothing indicated just how great it would be. We arrived a few minutes early and even though they were pretty busy, were greeted immediately and our table was already waiting for us. The waiter was so friendly and helpful! I'm pretty easy, but my wife and grandson like to "customize" their orders. My wife and I each had the sea bass and prawns, and our grandson had the steak sandwich; all were delivered quickly and were superb. You can't ask for any better! GO HERE TO EAT!!! read more

This place is in a non-descript area of Holborn and tucked on the corner of a building it doesn't at first sight look like the most exciting eatery but what a lovely place. Great food and service exceptionally good, quick not intrusive and friendly. Food always tastes better if someone else is treating and as it was a business meeting in the evening I got treated. I was advised by someone who regularly eats there to try the burger. Overflowing the bun, it was perfectly cooked and extremely tasty and served with a generous portion of nicely cooked fries. Other members of our party had the steak and enjoyed them too... All in all a great place, a little noisy, but very casual and decent prices for this area. Low grade steakhouse with a movie poster themed interior. (All movie posters have some sort of reference to beef/steak/cows/etcetera). Service was fine, but my steak was REALLY fatty, not the good marbleized fat that gives flavor, but the chewy, grizzled fat that suggests a low grade piece of meat. read more

This Holborn pub and eatery is the 'other' pub of Roxy Beaujolais. Unlike The Seven Stars, its sister pub, the 'Cow' is a fairly characterless place. Most Fridays, and Thursdays, and Wednesdays the Cow is filled with lawyers from nearby offices which gives it a slightly cliquey feel. There are good points. As one might expect the menu is focused on beef. The burgers are huge pieces of minced prime steak that has to be one of the best burgers in London. It would be a little misguided to take vegetarians but the Welsh Rarebit is good nonetheless. The wine is decent and there are a few good beers on tap. It frequently fills up, and on a Friday night you need to book. It does not have the charm of The Seven Stars, or indeed the cat, but if you're looking for a good burger in central London the 'Cow' is worth considering. read more

Tucked away behind Red Lion Square glows a red neon sign that doesn't do justice to the pub it represents. Fortunately the typical association of neon signs and tacky tourist joints that fail to deliver on both atmosphere and food doesn't apply to The Bountiful Cow. Better yet, it's out of the way location means that the place errs on the side of bustling, rather than bursting on a Friday evening. I guess most people know about it through word of mouth. The Bountiful Cow's beef-centric theme runs strong throughout their ground floor dining room, that also acts as the main bar for those just drinking. They also apparently have a room downstairs but I never made it down to validate that fact. The walls are mostly bare except for hanging retro movie posters all with some sort of beef-related title such as Mad Cows or Cattle Drive. It's something that should be too cheesy yet I think they still manage to pull off a contemporary look. Their bright downlights probably help as do the small button-like seats by the bar, and the glass doored fridge at the entrance showcasing the cuts of meat from the menu (with the largest burger patty I've ever seen). We started with the (£7) rillettes of duck (a cool terrine of slowly cooked shredded duck, with toast) and the (£7.50) sphardic pate (chopped chicken liver, onion, eggs and aubergines, with toast). The pate was a generous serve, rich and very tasty with the toast and served with tiny gherkins skewered to toothpicks. However I have to recommend the rillettes of duck to anyone that eats here. I could still sense each individual of fibre of meat with each mouthful yet it also was perfectly melt in the mouth soft and jam packed with flavours. We all agreed that it was so good that we ordered a second helping to share between the four of us. For our main meal, we all decided to go for steaks despite the look of the king-sized burger. Apparently Mike had been here before and experienced an overcooked steak, and out of fear of a repeat performance we asked for one steaks to be done one level down from what we all normally preferred (rare instead of medium rare for me). It was a good thing we did this as well since it came out perfectly cooked, moist and full of flavour. My 310g sirloin steak (£16.50) came with a serve of chips and a choice of sauces (bernaise or peppercorn) or melted goats cheese although the fillet steak comes with field mushrooms and focaccia instead of the chips. The steak really hit the spot and I thought the price was fairly reasonable for a steak that big (confirmed by the waitress as coming from some part of Scotland) Desperate for some more greens, I ordered a side salad (£4) and for the price I expected something much grander than a bowl of simply green leaves and a creamy white dressing sitting in a bowl nested at its centre. Frankly I don't understand why steakhouses continually overcharge for something that costs them so little and I regret ordering it. My only other dish I regretted ordering was the creme brulee (£5.50) Vanessa and I ordered. It looked promising but a single spoonful and I knew immediately it wasn't one of the better ones I've had. Its texture lacked the consistent smoothness I'd expect in a set custard, instead noticeably chunkier than it should be. It also didn't really help that they had set the blow torch too much on the top and many parts of the sugar toffee crust had become too bitter. I'd stick with just the steak next time. As far as steak places go, I'd definitely return to The Bountiful Cow since it's so central, has that unique atmosphere and what they focus on as their mains, they did really well. I heard they even have jazz music on Saturday evenings for free that might be worth sitting and listening to for a while. read more

Wow.... SO full right now It's like I ate... a COW! The burgers here are bountiful indeed, and come piled high with chunky chips and salad. The interior is like a vintage poster gallery meets pub (that is if your posters contain any bovine-related material, whether it be laughing cow or a matador's triumph...) Very comfortable and cosy hideout, they seated a large table with no booking on a Friday night... service was a little bit icy, but nothing I can complain about too much. The beginning of my odyssey to find a good steak in London started at the Bountiful Cow. Given the name and the menu you would think that this would be a great place to get a great steak. Alas there is more than a name that makes a good steak house, you actually have to serve good steaks. The night started with us getting seated downstairs. Charming ambience, kind of small nooks and crannies to sit in, cool space. The problems started when trying to get a drink. Apparently there was some confusion as to which waiter/waitress owned our table. Note to servers, don't make that a problem for your guests, its your problem not ours, take care of it quickly. It took forever to get a drink and ordering took forever as well. Note to restaurant owners, if your staff is actually attentive to your guests, and comes by more than once to get a drink order, you will make more money, what a concept. The service was poor but we had come to expect that, I'm finally able to tolerate that while eating in London, but there shouldn't be any compromise on the steak. 5 of the six of us ordered the Ribeye, 3 medium rare, 2 medium and 1 medium well...I think you know where I'm going here...... We received 5 Ribeye steaks, all cooked the same, just this side of well done. The steak was very thin compared to a steak you'd get in a steakhouse in the States, it's listed as 11% but I'd be surprised if it was over 8 or 9oz. So I understand that it's more difficult to get a thin steak done to the right order, but to cook them all well done means you didn't even try. It could also have benefited from some seasoning before grilling it, a little salt and pepper would have gone a long way. We got 5 thin slabs of unseasoned overcooked cardboard, shameful. This American's journey to find a great steak in London will continue, the Bountiful Cow was a strike out (blatant baseball metaphor), I'll keep you posted. read more

WINNER! I stumbled across this place by accident with my friend last weekend. We were looking for a spot for dinner that was close to their hotel. (the citadenes). I honestly didn't expect it to be so amazing. Perhaps its that I don't whet my taste buds with succulent bloody meat as often as I used to before, but there's something indefinable about the pleasure I derive from Red Meat. Melting and bloody, its the closest I get to being some kind of carnivorous animal...no bad thing? I had sirloin on the bone, medium rare, my friends had similar. It was cooked to perfection and genuinely delicious. Chips and salad, what more could you want. We were sat downstairs in the restaurant as the place was busy upstairs. However we were on our own downstairs, which suited us fine for chatting. Following our dinner we were offered a table that was free upstairs for more atmosphere... which was a good move. The chatting had gotten a little erie in the empty lower levels. They have a decent red wine selection, although i can only speak for the malbec which was the perfect temperature and silky smooth. The decor is hilarious with many MANY random bovine artworks, a lot with cow's having smaller heads than you would imagine. Needless to say, this is not a spot for vegetarians... but if you like meat, STEAK, do DO eat here. Its not ridiculously priced easier, which really helps that meat to melt in the mouth. read more

I will say that service was INSANELY SLOW, on a dead Friday night it took near an hour for two burgers. A hidden gem of a place. Massive american-style burgers and a great drink selection. I had the filet (where do i put the accent symbol? i can never remember) and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. It's definitely on the pricey side, but it's a great place for taking your boss out for drinks and dinner if you're trying to get a promotion, which I usually am. This little place is tucked away and looks from the outside like a working mans club. Although inside is warm and inviting, it kind of makes me feellike being in America. The menu is not extensive but has enough variety to place everyone. The steaks really are huge and great value for money, extremely tasty, my only complaint was that it took me so long to eat the food went cold - must unlike me. Although food is served upstairs and downstairs, the downstairs is more like a restaurant and the upstairs is more like a bar. Stuck in a side street with an exterior you would not deem worth a second glance, this bovine-themed pub is any true cowboy (or girl's) dream. There is a tiny pub upstairs with a nice selection of beers and wines that's gets full after work and a large eating area downstairs that's a little dark and decorated with all things 'cow', an eclectic mix that is quirky and create a rustic feel. The steaks are VERY GOOD and the burgers exceptional both the quality of the meat and the preparation. I came with a bunch of friends and ordered the t-bone. After reading so many positive reviews I was expecting something spectacular. Unfortunately my steak was quite tough and grissly. Everyone else's was reportedly good or great, but they may have been being polite. Others ordered sirloins or rib eye. I can't fault the place generally. The service was good, portion sizes were large, it's got a nice homely decor and there were real ales to sup before we got on to the wine to accompany the steaks. But when you've come here for steak and it isn't that great, it clouds your review. Perhaps I'll give it another go. But when there are so many places to try in London, I'm inclined to go somewhere else next time. read more

Another of Roxy's places and worthy of her fine name. The Bountiful Cow is the place to go for steak, or meat of any kind really. You are guaranteed to get a perfect cut of meat cooked perfectly, packed full of flavour and worth savouring every bite. Beautiful to pair with their thick cut and delicately seasoned chips. And though it almost defies logic, there are a couple of vegetarian friendly items on the list, including a very tasty Welsh rarebit with bit of a kick. The only complaint is that their soft drinks come in teeny tiny bottles and are overpriced for this. But as the meal itself is pretty reasonably priced, splurge on a pint and you won't notice. Word of advice if you're sitting downstairs - wear short sleeved. It gets hot down there! read more

Have only called in here with drinks with my work colleagues and have always really enjoyed it. Have had different starters and nibbles which were lovely but really must come back here some time for the steak or burger - I've heard they are to die for. Update - Called into this place last Friday night as both myself and my boyfriend were craving some steak. I had read some reviews for the Bountiful Cow which were all good and they had a special offer on - even better! Upstairs is a bar with the restaurant area situated downstairs, the atmosphere here is relaxed and service was pleasant. The offer we got was a rocket & parmesan salad to start, fillet steak with choice of sauce and a drink. Were really looking forward to this and wow did the steak deliver. Really tender with great flavour. Apparently the burgers are great here as well, some people near us had order them and they were positively mammoth! read more

A cute little restaurant that looks more like a pub than a dining room, I was pleasantly impressed with all the food here. I got the Baby Bounty burger, which was still a standard-sized burger. My companion got the lamb steak with sauteed potatoes. All were delicious. The atmosphere was a little dark for my liking (as though they were trying to hide carpet stains by not having enough light to see them), but the staff was friendly enough and not at all pretentious. It doesn't look like a fancy place from the outside, or when you're inside, but is certainly worth going to for a good meaty meal and I will visit again. :) read more

The Bountiful Cow is a great place for an evening out with friends or casual date. I ordered the Filet and my date got the Ribeye. We were both pleased with our results, although I would probably choose not to order the melted cheese next time. My steak was tender as they come and the sides were also fitting. the Jazz downstairs was class , but I do recommend getting their early or booking a table so you get a nice spot. Honest! I have never eaten so much meat like at the Bountiful Cow. The place is amazing guys. I thought to my-self that if I was to become a model I would drop by this restaurant for a last reminder of how meat tastes like. Just its name is extremely meaty. The beef served here is succulent and the burgers were bigger than my friend's face (bear in mind she's skinny). The décor is traditional and stylish and the musicmmhhI dangerous combination. The place it's ideal for a few-friend night out and the prices are not too bad at all. We went there twice and next time we are planning to eat one of their grills; some told me they are the best. read more

I love The Bountiful Cow. I have been there several times already. And each time fully satisfied. If you like beef or meat in general, this is really the place to be in. The Bountiful Cow serves large steaks and burger at pub price. Set in a traditional pubby setting, it a good day out for a Sunday Lunch. On a Sunday, they do roast suckling pig. There is jazz music too. Beware of the huge portions, although it is not a problem for me at all. I normally spend about £20 per person for entire Sunday afternoon. read more

Attended at 5pm on a Friday night and were the only diners. We had 2x Bounty Burgers - the biggest burger I have ever seen with a plentiful supply of chips (not fries). Not cheap but no room for dessert so bill was quite reasonable. This place is not easy to find but worth the effort if you are in the area and need a red meat fix. read more
