I'm surprised I could stop myself mid-white-chilli to share this review. IT'S THAT GOOD & this is from a long time Bread Basket connoisseur. The chilli sent me straight here, because I need to share this goodness with the world. Those little ladies home-make & bake everything. As a Cheyenne resident everybody knows about the bread basket, so for those around here is your reminder; and for those passing through & like white chili, cabbage burgers, breakfast burritos, white chili and like being SMACKED in my face with sweet smell of sugar, sweets & baked pastries when you walk in - then maybe it's time you add this stop as your next afternoon lunch break or on your families early morning out (you can call ahead & have country gravy or bacon/egg burritos made for pick up!!!!), or as your next friends birthday or bbq sweet treat. Everything is is made fresh & when they are out, they are out. So if it's a special stop or you're thinking ahead - I would call an order in the night before! Seriously how many bakeries do you know that you can call at 10:00 am and ask them for a German chocolate cake slice for your 74 year old neighbor, and they are out so they make you a personal cupcake for $7 and it's ready by 1??? JUST THE BREADBASKET! They have early hours, so plan ahead! Items I can promise will be delicious: white chili (obviously), country gravy burritos, sloppy joes, any type of granola, strudels, and German chocolate cupcakes... but that is just from my experience. When I'm traveling I like to try local eats. Yelp pointed me to The Bread Basket and its new-to-me, cabbage burger. Having no idea what a cabbage burger is I thought I should try it. I was lucky they had one left when I arrived for my late lunch. A cabbage burger is a fresh soft bun filled with cabbage, spices, and I think sausage. The bread was delicious the filling even better. What a great lunch find. The Bread Basket is the perfect place for a GREAT Sandwich. All the breads are made fresh daily and prepared on site. The women who run the front of the shop are great, friendly, helpful efficient and accommodating to make sure they made your sandwich to your specifications. They have all the fixings too. Don't leave without trying some of their homemade cookies or other sweets. Wow. Delicious and a great way to finish a meal. There are a couple of tables to sit inside and several outside. The place looks like an old time store or bakery and that it has been here a long time. My partner and I were craving sandwiches on a roadtrip and we were driving through Cheyenne, WY. We found this bakery which specializes in cabbage burgers, something I've never heard of nor had. My partner wanted an egg salad sandwich on sourdough. So we got both and shared. The egg salad sandwich with their homemade sourdough was delicious! The cabbage burger was unreal! It was stuffed inside a roll of bread and mixed with cabbage and burger bits. I'm not sure what spices that use but it was spicy and definitely had a kick but it was freaking delicious. What a unique experience to have. They have other breads and desserts they make right there. They have some small tables inside and some spots outside on the sidewalk. We beat the lunch rush because the place was hopping. The staff was nice and they take cash or card for payment. I'd easily go back again to have another cabbage burger. I had chicken salad sandwich on cheddar jalapeño bread and it was great! Yes- you get to pick your bread and there are a lot to choose from. Bread and pastries are great. My bill was $9.70. I gave the person at the register a 20. The person took my 20 and took out a 10 and put it up on the top of the bill tray then took out the remaining change and gave it to me. I stated I gave you a 20. She said no, here's your 10. I recently visited here for the first time with my family and I found this bakery absolutely charming. The employees were very patient with us and were sweet with my daughter when she went to pick out her cookie. The wait was not long at all. We split a chicken salad sandwich on 9 grain bread with potato salad and an oatmeal raisin cookie. The food was so delicious. Tastes just like a lunch your grandma would have prepared for you with love. Very filling too. They have a large variety of baked goods, jams, sandwiches and hot lunches to choose from. Sandwich and soup, people! Besides having one of the better chicken salad sandwiches you don't have to drive out of Cheyenne to get, they make an excellent Sloppy Joe. One of the better fall/winter meals my wife brings home for a quick lunch date is a Sloppy Joe and Chicken Noodle Soup from the Bread Basket. The soup is so good and paired with the slightly BBQ flavor of the Joe, it's a winner every time. read more

OK I didn't get to try the food, because my experience was like this. I was an hour out on the road and looked up a place on Yelp and decided on this place and when I arrived I was told they're closing in 15 minutes so the sandwich bar was shut down and all my choices were were soup or a sloppy Joe. I can't say it was done in the nicest manner either. So why the fuck would a restaurant say they shut down at 3 PM and put everything away a quarter till? Hopefully the owners pay attention because they're losing out on their last 15 minutes of business. I'm a business person so every minute counts. False advertising never helps either. So, did I mention that I called when I was an hour out? Yes, I called because I was on the road and I wanted to make sure they had cabbage burgers and they said they were out. And then I called again because I had another question and that time I mentioned I was one hour out. They could've said either time that I called that they close at 2:45 PM. Just ridiculous. Just list your hours for when you're open and stick with it. Seriously I am disappointed I really was in the mood and hungry from being on the road. Blah !! Heading across 80 East headed home from vacation ... found this little neighborhood gem, thanks to Yelp!! Not far from the highway! Only open until 4:00.... Great selections, easy peasy, light & fresh! All fresh made breads, cookies, salads, soups! Hubs had the egg salad on white and I had the chicken salad on 9 Grain. Then, with the addition of a soup or salad and a drink you get a free cookie...all for $10, truly can't beat it! Only a few tables/chairs inside but there is also seating outside. Wish I had something like this in my neighborhood!! You won't be disappointed! Little update, we bought some of their homemade granola and a loaf of their sunflower bread to take home...everything is fantastic! Not sure if they ship, but it's on my to do list to find out!! I have been staying in downtown Cheyenne for a few months now and have walked to this bakery several times, as well as, have made a number of purchases. The local bakery is wonderful! It so reminds me of when I was a boy my mom would take me to our local bakeries and you felt so welcomed there! I have tried several of the breads and pastries in the past few months. The taste of all have been great! I have not had the opportunity to try any of the sandwiches but I'm sure they are awesome given the number of customers I have see buying them! If you're in Cheyenne and you don't stop at the bread basket, you're making a mistake. First off, sandwiches. They probably have at least 15 types of bread, then you can build your own with a solid selection of veggies and sauces. They make all their own bread and you can really tell. Next, soups. They rotate each day, and all that I have tried are really flavorful and filling. The best is definitely the white chicken chili on Saturday and Wednesday. There are also cabbage burgers, calzones, and sloppy joes, which are all good and sell out sometimes. I'd say the cabbage burgers and sloppy joes are a bit better than the calzones. In addition to all of this, there's a huge selection of pastries and baked goods, and definitely don't sleep on the peanut butter granola! read more

Just take a look at my pics to see their many, many offerings. I was quite stupefied by their large selection. Obviously a favorite of locals but I was just traveling through, didn't want to blow my one opportunity to get the goods. Little did I know... it's all good! We got 4 different cookies and, the piece d' resistance, the sticky bun. It was tough to pick which variety of cookies to try, there must have been at least a dozen and 1/2 flavors to choose from. They also have a tremendous variety of breads, including banana and pumpkin. I also noticed a couple varieties of muffins and pies and coffee cakes. We were driving through on our cross country road trip. I was craving a nice fresh sandwich, this place showed up. Me and my husband are both professional chefs with Michelin star backgrounds, and these sandwiches blew us away. Didn't expect this little hole in the wall to be this good. The roast beef was sliced super thin like Arby's, but way better quality. The veggies were super fresh and crisp. The bread was amazing, highly recommend the garlic cheddar. I also got some cookies, the snickerdoodles were my favorite. Super chewy in the middle but slightly crispy on the sides. Very fast and friendly service. Old skool corner bakery run by really friendly folks located in a beautiful classic downtown neighborhood. This is where the locals go! There's about 5 tables inside and there is outdoor seating seasonally, but primarily caters to grab 'n go folks. Great assortment of homemade pastries, the cheese Danish is fantastic. They have sandwiches made to order on their wide variety of freshly baked breads. Also available are non-bakery items like the unbelievably good biscuits and gravy. It is right-sized, consisting of one large split biscuit covered in magic goo. That one is the real deal, with plentiful, large chunks of sausage in the off-white gravy full of sausage flavor goodness. I was told that after 11am they have sloppy joes and other items and I noticed that they had on their specials board a 'cabbage burger'. I'd love to try that out. It's a real bakery, so they also have pies, cookies and cakes too, all made on premises. A definite must-visit if you are passing through Cheyenne. The prices are really reasonable, too. 3 pastries, one B&G, a coffee and an OJ running only $11. Can't do that at McBucks. read more

I was with my mother in law and we both went to different registers to check out even though we were paying together and the lady lost her mind and acted as if it was such a big deal and immediately got an attitude for no reason.
