So gotta say I'm slightly biased as my daughter in law works here, but this was the first time we'd been able to visit so thought I'd do a review. The Skull Island banana mocha is very popular I was told, but I'm not a banana fan so I chose a Chai. It was really good and had the right amount of spice and tea milk ratio. Hubs had an Americano. It got rid of his headache, so 2 thumbs up for that. The place is super cool and kitschy as it's horror themed. Lots of memorabilia from movies and such. Way out of my way, but I stopped by recently because I've been dying to check it out. It has great street presence and then has a totally fun ambiance inside, with Beetlejuice's Sand Worm bursting out of the ceiling to greet you. The horror memorabilia is worth the trip, but if you've come all this way, you may as well enjoy one of the fantastic coffee concoctions. I got the Skull Island, a banana mocha, and it was delicious. So when I heard about a horror themed coffeehouse I expected a dingy little place with Freddy and Jason murals. Ah!!!! No, these are my kind of monsters - all the classics all over the place. Very cool place, a horror themed cafe featuring Godzilla, scary killer alien snakes, nostalgic cereal in large bowls, to die for coffee, and some seating. We came here on a Sunday morning around 10am, there were a few people in line ahead of us an all the main seating was taken but there were still spots to sit in the back. We got the bowl of lucky charms for our kid, he loved them. We all got him a Marz Pink Lemonade. I got a cold brew and a bagel with vegan cream cheese (although I didn't get the vegan cream cheese and also said nothing so not on them 100%). Overall a pretty interesting place. read more

My husband and I were visiting a nearby farmers market when we discovered The Brewed on Google, and we're so glad we did! Such a fun place to grab a coffee! I loved the horror decor and collectible cases. The murals on the walls were so cool. They had many creative and funky coffee options. Unfortunately, I really did not like what I tried. I got the re-agent which was espresso with a sweetened tonic water. It was really not my thing. I was too proud to ask for a replacement. Bakery items are not made in house and were for the most part, chewy and a bit stale. Drinks were decent. Service was kind and patient (experienced a fun milk spillage that everyone had a good attitude about-cleaned up very quickly). Ambiance is really fun vintage 80s Halloween vibes. My kids had a good time checking out all their collectibles. Can sit down and do work here if desired. Cute photo booth and next to a vintage record shop next door. Incredible!!! I'm still at my seat as I write this. Came here for my Wife's birthday and we didn't know the record store had in-store access, love love love it. They got the Silver Shamrock with the deacon (beacon?) donut and I got the Skull Island iced with a strawberry shot and a mish mosh bagel w oat cream cheese. Bagel had a unique flavor that I WILL definitely come back for I come to Logan Square so often don't know how I haven't been here sooner. read more

I wanted to try a cafe in my neighborhood that I had not tried already. Seeing how Milwaukee Avenue is slowly filling in to the north of Diversey Avenue, I noticed The Brewed within walking distance. This is a happening spot. The hipster crowd that was once all the rage on the Logan Square landscape seems to congregate here. Well, I can attest to them having great taste in coffee because the coffee is the best. I have popped in a few times since my first visit, and I will say that the service and the selections of coffee I have had have always made it easier for me to return. I'm going to miss this spot when I move away from the neighborhood. read more

This place is LEGIT - top 3 coffee shops in Chicago hands down. The horror theming is so intricate and fun. Someone needs to give the interior decorator a raise! Horror themed coffee shop with an adjacent record shop? how cool. Delicious caramel iced latte. Its spacious inside and closes late though parking can be difficult but not impossible to find nearby. I've seen their speciality drinks on social media and they look amazing. Im curious what others think of them. Often times I feel like themed coffee shops can come across as gimmicky but not this one. my latte was delicious and the interior had interesting posters, murals and some vintage and diy decor. I have long wanted to visit this coffee shop, in part on behalf of my closest friend's husband who is a HUGE horror fan. Today I was about a mile away so it seemed the perfect time. And they definitely lean hard into the horror theme, both campy horror (King Kong, The Blob, Beetlejuice) to the more gory horror (Nightmare on Elm Street, etc.). It was quiet when we arrived; there were a dozen or so folks inside but still very chill and quiet inside. They have some more unusual drinks than other coffee shops I've been to--case in point, Skull Island is a banana flavored latte (and I just now put together the King Kong-gorilla-banana connection). I picked that up for my partner and for myself I got their fall favorite drink, Wassail (cider) and it was the perfect drink to (somewhat begrudgingly) welcome fall. I also got a few pastries, including the Oreo donut which does not have Oreo (which I am glad about) but is a chocolate frosted cake donut that is so freaking good. Dunkin sells something similar but this is much much better. If I was around I would be happy to stop in again. I'd love another Oreo donut and a cider to warm me up! read more

visited this shop for the first time yesterday! i was so excited and really wanted to try their sweet potato latte! upon entering, i don't remember being greeted by anyone and stepping up to order, i didn't feel like the cashier really wanted to take my order.. i told her it was my first time visiting and there was no welcoming energy at all.. i felt like i was just being stared at until i made a decision on what to order. the barista who made my drink did indulge in conversation with me after making my drink which was nice. i found the latte to be lacking in flavor and didn't really give me the sweet potato kick that i was looking for! i would definitely come back at least once and i am hoping for a better experience! they also have vegan beacon doughnuts which is always a win! read more

The coffee here - especially the cold brew - is so good. I'm in the Logan Square area once/week and almost always go here midday for a little pick me up. Employees are always friendly and ambiance is chill, with some fun decorations to give it more character. I love that they have Beacon donuts - one of my favorite places to get donuts in the city. With Halfwit medium roast espresso, oat milk, banana purée syrup, and vegan chocolate sauce, this dessert just might make you go bananas for more coffee. On the corner of Dawson & Milwaukee and open daily until 7pm, there's nothing scary about this shop... Except perhaps how barista/cashier Jason had scary great vibes. This is one of the most unique places to grab a cup of coffee, and I absolutely loved visiting the Brewed. They have flavor combinations I have never seen before and I love that it is horror and nostalgia themed, which you see immediately upon entering with the sandworm from Beetlejuice coming down from the ceiling. I got one of their specials, which was the Elvira and it was excellent. There's plenty of seating and it's a very open area which is nice and it's also attached to a record store which has more than just records. There were a lot of nostalgic items which I think are worth checking out, just for a walk down memory lane. I spent some time here with a friend after grabbing our coffees and we were really amazed by some of the finds and novelty items. If you're in the area and want to try a special latte in a unique setting be sure to check out the Brewed. read more

This is one of my favorite neighborhood coffee shops. And that's coming from another barista in the area. The food options are great and very vegan friendly. Love that they have Beacon donuts. The drinks are solid and the baristas are quick and friendly. The aesthetic in here is spooky and fun. They also just added a photo booth which is so cool and I need to make use of. The only reason is 4 stars instead of 5 is that their wifi connection was spotty the whole time. I ended up using my personal Hotspot to get work done. So if you need to come here to do work with reliable Internet this might not be the spot. read more

I really like this quirky neighborhood spot. I've been here a few times and it's a great add to this strip of Milwaukee. Every drink I've had here has been solid, including their signature latte which I tried today. I really like the way the inside is set up as well, with a couple of different sections so it's easy to have a little privacy if you want some space. I'll be back again soon! read more

Very cool horror themed movie cafe located up in Logan Square right on Milwaukee Ave. There's so much cool stuff here, from multiple vintage horror movie posters, to several figurines and old VHS'. Even the title of the place is an homage to the 1979 Cronenberg horror film The Brood. The design of the place is modeled after a classic 50s diner, from booths to stools. In terms of menu, it's pretty standard stuff. I just got the regular hot coffee, which was fine, but the main reason to come here is for the design, especially if you're a horror fan. It's also connected to a record store next door if you want to buy some records as well. I'll definitely try and make a point to come here again in the future. read more
