This is a beautiful boutique hotel in the uptown Galleria area. I love the decor that was both European and Texas at the same time. The staff was charming and welcoming. It's the simple things like saying hello or good morning when a staff member passed by and making eye contact, all of our interactions were top-notch. We booked a suite and were very comfortable, unfortunately we did visit during winter, so didn't get to take advantage of the pool, although it is a lovely setting. The hotel sits across a variety of dining and shopping opportunities, which is always a nice option when you don't feel like dealing with the Houston traffic. Our stay was during a non-holiday weekend and we had prepaid to valet (once again the valet Staff provided first rate service) but there was enough parking available that the valet service wasn't necessary. Overall, we had a great day. We did have breakfast at the restaurant which was just average for us, but wins on convenience. Highly recommend staying here with a group, romantic getaway, or special events. read more

i hosted an afternoon tea here with a few other ladies. the first thing was that i had added a few people to my list 2 days before the date and given their vegetarian requirements. i was told that it was confirmed and it was fine to add it on such short notice. when i got there they did not have the two people nor their dietary restrictions nor mine which i gave them a week ahead of time listed. so there was a hiccup there. however i was told that they would be able to add and accomodate on the spot. the tea was great. the food was very tasty. my only concern with the food was that everyone else got two scones and i got just one with my dairy free restriction and it felt like i was missed out of the experience because of that. our waiter was sometimes slow getting back to us and it took quite awhile for them to get our sandwiches out. it was taking longer than anticipated and some of us had to leave soon so we asked for our desserts and scone to be presented at the same time which they accommodated. so overall great food, great teak just some hiccups with service. read more

My colleague goes to Hotel Granduca (HG) for meetings and lunches, and after my time there last week, I can see why! The hotel is beautiful, old world, elegant, and classy. The team at HG are friendly and attentive, but never intrusive. The WiFi is strong and the accommodations provide great options for meetings or quiet work. The real treat came when lunch was served. We were provided with a gourmet meal at the prices of a quality but reasonably priced restaurant. The food was delicious, and as silly as it sounds, they do this crumbled crouton thing on their Caesar salad that adds that extra unique flavor and mouth feel that has stayed with me since I ate there. I can see why my colleague spends so much time there, and I hope to spend more time in the future. I know it's silly, but the restrooms are beautiful, and they have hand towels to dry your hands after you wash them. You just can't go back to paper towels after that. read more

Terrible stay that was overpriced and unsanitary. I rarely give 1 star reviews but it started and ended wrong. I checked into a smoked out room but tried to make the best of a short stay by spraying my own air freshener and cracking the door for a bit. Sit on the balcony to be facing a bunch of dumpsters. I know trash has to go somewhere but upcharging for a dumpster view is insane! Suite had a full kitchen but the wine fridge was locked and there was no soap for dishes which was weird. Bar drinks are ridiculously overpriced. The last mercy blow was the roach that walked across the the bedroom floor. $300 a room and (yes they made me pay it). Disgusting place! read more

This review is for the High Tea Service, not for the hotel itself. Came here for tea with a group of friends expecting a lovely, girly experience given the price point. I wished I had noticed ahead of time that the reviews for this were mixed, because that's generally how I felt about the experience. Ambiance - Very reminiscent of a resort's replica of a European villa. You pass by some suits of armor and assorted art on the way to your table. A unique vibe that would appeal to many, but was not to my personal taste. The dining area was dignified but had a bit of a lonely vibe. Service - Overall attentive enough but experienced some hiccups. Our waitress spent more time talking to us about adding champagne to our service rather than talking to us about the tea options. They also don't automatically give a basic water service but offer bottled or sparkling, and charge for any option that isn't tap. I understand the desire for a business to upsell, but this practice felt very unsavory to me given the classy experience I thought we were in for. Also, all of the waiters including our main waitress happened to speak very fast, and it was hard to catch what they were saying especially when they were talking about what food they were serving us or what tea options were available. Food - The dinnerware was beautiful and the food itself dainty and tasty. The best item I had was the warm blueberry scone served with the dessert. We were served approximately the same amount of food I've had at other high teas I've been to, but here it's served on individual plates instead of leaving the beautiful tiered tray in the center of the table to nibble on at your leisure. They would then come and go to replace the savory plate with the sweet plate. Doing it this way made the experience feel more rushed instead of leisurely and luxurious. The tea selection was also lacking and there was no bespoke tea menu, so we could only go off verbal recommendations. I would have rather had a chance to look through all of the options. I've been to other high teas before where the food, service, and ambiance combined made the price feel appropriate. That just didn't feel like the case here. Came here for a March of Dimes meeting to support loss of a child . Although mine happened years ago ,it was important to support others recently going through loss. It was a spiritual and beautiful ceremony that gave people some in a time when comfort cannot always be understood . The staff at this beautiful hotel could not have been any better with their gorgeous courtyard outside to host this event. They had a lovely guitarist playing sweet soulful music as participants told their story of loss. The restaurant offered their delicious homemade chocolate cookies to remind you that life can be sweet again even in the times when life makes your heart hurt. The end of the meeting they released the lanterns made that day with the names of their children lost into the pool with a prayer to all, hugs to many and kind words . Thank you to Hotel Granduca for giving a place for healing , kindness and support in your wonderful customer service and space . I appreciated that they closed this area off to the guests of the hotel to allow for privacy and reflection for this private event. read more

General amenities, setting and decor are perfectly fine. The restaurant is fantastic. Greenish water in the bathtub is not. For that reason, I will probably select the Houstonian on my next visit to Houston. Get transported to a 16th century Palazzo in Savoy near Uptown Park. Inspired by the life and history of Adalberto Malatesta, Granduca of Monfallito, the beautiful Hotel Granduca Houston is a modeled after the Palace of the Duke. Love the open courtyard. So relaxing to sit by the pool, enjoy a cabana or sit in the garden. Very peaceful and tranquil on a breezy early evening in October. Would be a nice place to meet friends or have a quiet evening with someone special. Most recently came for a March of Dimes event. So sad to remember and honor lives that were lost much too soon. Nice to be able to float lanterns in the pool for those who have lost a baby. Would like to come back for afternoon tea. At some point, they also had cooking classes. Not sure if that is still an option due to the pandemic. Parking is available by valet or free self-parking. The light bites were good and served in oversized metal spoons. The tuna tartare was delicious. The burrata was a bit too soft and grainy, but maybe it was due to the Houston heat. read more

I go to the restaurant in the hotel for afternoon tea every year for my birthday and it is always the highlight of my day. This year they put us in a room with a big round table surrounded my windows and it was perfect. We have the same server every time and she is always so nice and so good. The tea, sandwiches, and desserts are all delicious. They have one of the best scones I've had. They also did a complimentary tableside tiramisu that was so good and I would've eaten more if I wasn't already so full. I love going here! read more

Very interesting place in Houston. The rooms are nicely appointed but my beef was my room was non smoking but it was clearly a smoking room before. The staff is top notch and friendly. Throw back to when they opened doors and greeted everyone coming in. Rooms were OK and not old not new but OK. Water pressure was a touch light in the shower but you can get clean The pool side lounge is gold. They have a great environment for the pool with a hot tub, cabanas and a lounge area where you can smoke cigars. Out door dining is also available and great service as well Like I said the longer you stay the more charming it gets and is worth the trip. read more

I've stayed at this property 3 times over the years and had a great experience each time. The staff has always been professional and courteous! The hotel itself is located in a nicer part of Houston, but what I like most is the fact that it's quiet at night. We've stayed at hotels in downtown and it gets very loud at night, especially on the weekends. The rooms are spacious and clean, we saw that during COVID they're using hospital grade sanitizing to clean the rooms. I have not tried their restaurants or afternoon tea service, but in-room dining has been a great experience for us. Overall highly recommend this property! read more

Amazing! Fantastic! Superior Service from everyone who works there. My room was cleaned very well every time I came back. The decor is elegant and yet positively demur. I didn't get to check out the restaurants but I'm pretty confident the food is delicious. I am stayi there again. The folks at the front desk, piano player, valet all smile and speak which is becoming a rare thing. Thank you Hotel Granduca leadership and staff. It's really nice and remodeled. I stayed here a few years ago and service is great. I recently visited and noticed significant changes, perhaps new management, but I don't agree with how they treat employees here. I've seen the housekeeping ladies struggling to push linen carts and being overwhelmed. They should make those big, heavy carts smaller and lighter for the working ladies or make the men push them. They are hardworking and super busy, but they are so courteous and kind. The housekeepers definitely deserve more for their service and accommodations. read more

I really loved staying at Granduca! Yes, I only gave it 4 stars because the furnishings were pretty tired and worn, however, the place was super clean! We stayed the 4th July weekend and it seemed like we were one of about 5 guest rooms that occupied the place. On the 4th of July we were almost the only people at the pool. It was great to practically have the place to ourselves. We ate breakfast one morning and it was very good!! All of the food was fresh and we had a delicious pot of coffee. Everything that we ordered from the bar was well balanced and refreshing. By the pool I had Aperol Spritz's and they were perfect! They offer a yummy watermelon caprese and a very good fruit cup. The bartenders and servers were all super friendly. We stayed in a suite that had a kitchenette. We didn't need/use it but it was nice to have a refrigerator for some bottled water. I was a bit disappointed that when my husband went down to the breakfast area he ordered a pot of coffee to take to the room but he was told there were not enough coffee pots to take one to the room. I thought that was interesting because as I said occupancy was super low. There were only about 5 cars in the parking lot. read more

We went for a birthday celebration tea. The teas were delicious. The staff was super friendly. The food was tasty and different. It's not a lot of food and sweets. It's about one bite a sandwich. We have stayed longer at other high tea places enjoying the food. This went by super fast. Very rushed. I stayed here when I was in town for business meetings. The hotel grounds are beautiful and decorated to resemble an Italian villa. My room appeared recently renovated with newer carpet and bathroom. The room itself felt more like a master bedroom or B & B than a hotel. I would call my room and the amenities luxurious. The checkin process was smooth and friendly. The young woman behind the counter thanked me for coming again which was odd since I'd not been there before (more on that later). It took me a bit to figure out the elevator situation since I'd not set foot on the property. Need to use your room key to access the elevators. See pics for details on my room. I used the fitness area and the treadmills were nearly new and very clean! Bonus! The hotel is near several trendy restaurants and a wine bar so I walked to dinner. Very convenient. I had a glass of wine at the bar which was a bit overpriced but the experience was nice. The bar area is organized well and quiet despite having multiple tables with guests. My checkout process was also smooth. When asked if I wanted to see my receipt I said no and should have looked at it. While the price was correct the hotel put someone else's name and address on the bill. My card was charged but a woman with my last name and similar first name were shown on the receipt. Evidently she stayed there before which is why they thought I had too. I called the hotel and they made it right. Overall great experience. Reasonable priced. I would stay here again. read more

Brought my family in for the tea and purchased two rooms for about $200 each, total about $450 with tax. Tea was about $120. One of the two is in smoking hall. None of us smoke. Room is smoke filled and smells horrible. Opened all windows and will risk bayou mosquitos rather than not be able to breathe. Hotels still allow smoking? Even a smoker wouldn't accept this smell. My reservation was for non-smoking. Front desk management was dismissive and said four rooms in hotel are smoking. "Sorry that's all we have, you can wait til late night as we are shampooing carpet in another room and we will put you in there". Nope... About once every 50 reviews or about once a year I will rate less than 3 stars. Here you go Granducca, one star. Plenty of other good hotels in Galeria area. We will never be back here. Bad smell and no interest in making this right for us. read more

Probably my favorite hotel in Houston! This is a hidden gem in Uptown Galleria of Houston and I'm very happy to have discovered it. The pool area is very cozy and the cabanas are free on first come, first served basis. They have a great selection of drinks and food. We ended up getting the meat platter and pizza. It filled us up quite nicely. The staff went beyond my expectations to accommodate us. We stayed in one of the larger suites with a full kitchen. They provided us with all the cooking pans and pots. They also went out of their way to find me some butter for my meal at a late hour. I'm very thankful for that because it was an important detail of my meal. My favorite part was how peaceful it was by the pool. You can definitely have a peaceful day here with all the other respectful people. Will be back! read more

The staff was extremely friendly and it was very easy to get around the hotel. The pool is also very quite (on a Saturday) which was perfect for a nice conversation, relaxing time. Never ever ever have I seen this before. They chain the doors at night and you are not allowed to come and go freely! I took photos out of disbelief. I was trying to leave the hotel at roughly 11 PM and found the main front doors CHAIN LOCKED! And no one around to let us out. I couldn't believe it. Went for afternoon tea with my family. The ambience is fantastic, BUT the tea set was sub-par and service was HORRENDOUS. The savories & sweets were pretty aesthetic & tasty but nothing special, and the tea selection was disappointing -- basic teas (green, earl grey, English breakfast) -- especially for a luxury hotel. The waitress Alba was terribly unpleasant and inattentive (the dining room was practically empty too so it's not like she was too busy); this frankly made our experience fairly sour. Firstly, when we first arrived she was making a big stink about our reservation arrangement, and I was hoping that she wouldn't be our server but alas she was. Secondly, she didn't explain what the sweets were until I flagged her down and asked her to explain (and then she wasn't knowledgeable about the food; couldn't say more than just the name). I also had to continually flag her down to ask for more water (whether tap water, sparkling water, or hot water for the tea pots) for the table when she should've been keeping an eye out for this; she kept forgetting too so I had to flag her down again to remind her. And lastly, every time she came into the dining room she let out a big, audible sigh -- a sigh that our entire table could hear; what a mood killer! I asked him to please bring me another tea cup or dump mine because I wanted to get a fresh cup, and he immediately said "no" twice in a strangely rude demeanor. It was awkward and off-putting so I didn't ask for him to elaborate why, I assume so that I wouldn't waste the tea, but I find it bizarre that that would be an issue considering I spent $250 for 3 people for the experience. I was looking for a staycation at a five star hotel and decided on Hotel Granduca for a weekend stay. A lot of people don't know about this hidden gem as it's kind of hidden from the street. I had no idea myself that it's located right across the street from Uptown Park. Once you enter the premises, it's valet only and pretty pricy at that. I'm always anti-valet but what can you do. The lobby area has plenty of seating where you can hang out, a bar with a piano, and the breakfast area. I did a little work in the bar area and it was comfortable. The bar area overlooks their spectacular pool. Unfortunately, since it was late October, I didn't have an opportunity to take a dip or kick back in a cabana. Our suite was spacious and really nice, it was like an apartment with a kitchen and living room along with the standard bed room and bathroom. You could fit three of four NYC hotel rooms in a Hotel Granduca suite! Hotel Granduca goes above and beyond with the little things. Shampoo, conditioner, and lotion in large bottles from Italy. Robes and slippers. Chocolates. It was a great experience. One thing I wish I would've known. If you're going to a restaurant or somewhere close by, they'll give you a complimentary ride in a Maserati! Other than the valet, I have nothing but great things to say about the hotel! read more

Hosted an executive meeting and was surprised by how unfriendly and unaccommodating the staff was when it came to arranging the room. Servers had to be asked multiple times for basic orders like tea and serving utensils. They didn't know the difference between gluten free and vegetarian which is extremely problematic. One of the last places I would host another meeting. Two stars instead of one because even though we didn't have proper utensils to eat it, the food was good. read more

They will advise you to make a reservation, but it won't matter because you will call and make the reservation and will be assured you have a reservation, but upon arrival you'll find they don't have your reservation. They pre plan afternoon tea, so they cannot accommodate without a reservation. To smooth over the situation, the manager offered to comp a bottle of wine, but when we got the check he had a bout of amnesia and said he had offered no such thing. To add to it all, the service was also not representative of an upscale establishment. The food was good but no so good that it would be worth all the hassle we went through.
