I booked a two-night staycation at the Thompson Houston, and it was a great excuse to use my American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts credit before June came to an end. We checked in on a Friday and surprisingly, it didn't feel like we were in Houston anymore. One of the biggest perks of booking through Amex Travel as a Platinum Card member was the daily breakfast for two (up to $60), a $100 hotel credit that we used towards room service, and other Fine Hotels + Resorts perks like early check in and late checkout. Few things about the hotel: -The lobby is modern and stylish, without feeling too pretentious. It has a great energy whether you're checking in or relaxing at the bar, which is right next to it.. The staff was also welcoming, and the check-in process was easy. -Our room was equally impressive. Gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light. We were also on the highest floor so it made it that much more captivating. The room felt spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom had that luxury hotel feel with a large shower, and nice finishes. Everything felt clean and well-maintained. -The foods we ordered via room service were all good, especially the salmon dish. -Valet is $60 per night, which is pretty standard for luxury hotels in Houston, but it's something to factor into the overall cost of your stay. Not sure why parking in general is so expensive but that irked me. Overall, the Thompson met my expectations. I'd absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend escape without leaving the city. read more

The service was absolutely terrible. Our room was never cleaned. We stayed from Thursday-Sunday. There were multiple incidents that really made this stay unacceptable. I had a prenatal facial done on Friday July 10th. Morgan at the spa front desk charged me for the wrong guests ticket that cost ($330.98) Not only did she charge me incorrectly, she also made me pay for my own service ($287.26). Morgan said she took off the first charge but when I went to the lobby's front desk they had to reprint the correct invoice. We are ammex card holders so they said we should get $60 credit every morning for breakfast, and a $100 credit to use on the property. I am seeing they haven't applied those credits. We had dinner at Chardon for my birthday on July 11th and watched police take out a group of people from the pool area who were upset because they were cut off from drinking. We also saw another couple escorted out of Chardon because they thought the manager was being racist. I don't think that was the case, but it was extremely chaotic at this point. I felt like I was watching a carnival cruise YouTube video. I also had to call in and complain multiple time because our neighbors on our floor were extremely loud and obnoxious. There was security sent up on Friday night for that as well. I never got to enjoy the pool area because each time we tried to go out, there was no space/chairs to sit. I won't be returning to this hotel, at this price point there shouldn't be problems like these. read more

I saw two people at the desk that looked exactly alike. I said, are you the Thompson Twins? They didn't get it. I feel old now. I need someone to hold me now. In any case, the hotel is stunning if a little unusual. Definitely aiming for avant-garde and unique, and the visuals of the lighting on the Houston skyline are instantly recognizable for miles in any direction. I would give it a solid 4 or even 5 despite the pricing, except for two things. Firstly, I've had the same Valet issues as Ema P, and others. They are hyper-aggressive and shady-on-purpose, that describes a lot of Valet companies in Houston, but if you want to be a high end hotel, you need high end Valet, not The Thievery Corporation. Secondly, certain front desk and hotel staff have been nice to us, but at least 2 of them (and I can pick them out of a line up) have been some of the most abrasive, confrontational hotel staff, even in the middle of the night when nothing was happening and there was no major stress or hurry. Just them texting, followed by them abusing both of us. If not for the nice ones (and there are a few of those too), I would have gone all the way down to 1 star. read more

We stayed there for a night, the room looked clean and spacious. The air conditioning wasn't too great. The worst part was waking up to finding out bites on my arm. There was some insect or something that bit me which left a big itchy bump. It could be possible something came from the big wide vent on the wall or inside the sheets on bed. We were not able to locate anything as we didnt have much time, had to check out upon waking up. On paying such premium price, i expected more cleanliness and pest control. The Thompson is still a great place to stay on our second visit. It is billed as a "luxury boutique" hotel and generally lives up to its reputation. The room, amenities, and staff are all excellent, but the dining/service is not great. As for the most important points for any hotel, the room basics were all very good. The mattress was good quality and not worn so that it did not hurt our backs. The water pressure and temperature on a higher floor were both good. It was relatively quiet most of our stay so that we could sleep. As for the amenities, the hotel has a nice gym comparable to gyms in other nice hotels. There is access to the external gym on their property, but we would recommend just using the hotel gym as it is adequate for most people and more private and less crowded. The hotel provides a complimentary car service (tip the driver a few buck cash) up to 3 miles from the hotel. There is a beautiful rooftop pool and deck and a Helipad. Not sure if there is a self parking option, but valet parking was $60 a day on our visit (4-2026). The staff are all very friendly and mostly efficient at their jobs. One quirk of this hotel (common at similar boutique hotels) is that the lobby is on the 7th and not the 1st floor. While this is a nice security feature, you must go up to the 7th floor, exit the back of the elevator, and cross the lobby to a second set of elevators and use your key card to ONLY access you floor every time you come and go. We started exiting at the 6th floor at the gym level to avoid the traffic and staff in the lobby. Our only complaint on this visit is the dining. The main restaurant, Sol 7, was not open on our previous visit, but was this time. Online ordering was not available using the QR code in the room. When calling the number on the room service website, we were transferred to the main operator who then transferred us to room service who never answered. We had to go down to the restaurant to place a togo order in person, then go back to our room for 20 min before returning to the lobby to get our food togo-we are glad we did not order deliver to the room as we fear how long that would have taken. The next day we went to Sol 7 to eat. While they were not busy and the server was very nice, still the service was very slow. The food quality for both takeout and dine in was good and the prices comparable to those in the area. As for other dining issues, the Maven Coffee shop was extremely disappointing (see our separate Yelp review for more details). The service there was lacking, numerous menu items were missing, and the quality was not good. We were not impressed with the Taco Madera restaurant near the hotel/on their lot on our previous visit (see our Yelp review for them). There are just far better dining options outside the hotel property in nearby midtown and other nearby parts of downtown. Some are walkable in the daytime if it is not too hot and you are wiling to walk 10-15 min, others you need a ride share, but it is worth it for better dining--do not walk at night as it is NOT safe despite what others may tell you. Overall, the Thompson is still a 5 star property and a good choice for a business trip like we are on when we visit, a staycation as they advertise, or a luxurious vacation. I am definitely aggravated right now. I went to a lovely banquet by AWA (association of women attorneys) on friday. Things were fine even though you were forced to use valet. I'm usually leery of valet in Houston regardless of the company. So, I went on to enjoy my evening and at the end of the night they asked us to pay valet upstairs before leaving. Fine. Nbd, right? Wrong. I realized on Saturday they charged me twice for valet. I called after it fully left pending status on my account and they bounced me around a few times in order to get to the right department, or what not. I still do not have the issue resolved. This is not like a $5,000 charge... this should be something pretty quick to reverse. I already wrote a review about my poor experience with the grand opening of the spa and the abrications of a prize I was supposed to win and collect- a spa day and a couple of nights stay and I still haven't had that reward fulfilled yet... There was a manager who reached out here and said he would lick into it and honor my rewards and that's been months now. Still nothing. I wanted to bring my parents here and a couple of my clients for their events but I'm definitely reconsidering after having two bad experiences with the Thompson hotel. The Thompson is a modern sky scraper boutique hotel within a complex that includes 3 restaurants, a coffee shop and a gym in the same development. It's an interesting set up- after pulling up to valet you take an elevator to 7 where the check in takes place in a lobby with beautiful views of downtown. There's a restaurant on that level that I'm sure has great views. Our room looked out the same way from the 15th floor which we enjoyed. Beds were comfortable. Spacious restroom and good shower. Hyatts usually have their act together really well. It's not Ritz Carlton by any means but what elevated our stay from 4 to 4.5 stars rounded up was the friendly service. We ordered room service which arrived 20 mins earlier than promised both times. The servers were both really nice. However the person that set the tone for great service was Yolanda in reservations. She had taken my call before our arrival when I had a few questions about our stay and had wanted to confirm a few things. She answered all my questions and set my expectations on check in details and she was so nice on the phone that it gave me a good feeling about the upcoming stay. Then as we were on the road to Houston she called me back to let me know that our room had gotten ready earlier than anticipated which really helped our planning. She's an excellent communicator and has great follow up! Rare in these days! She set the 5 Star tone! We also were able to use the hotel's car service to drop us at the nearby Wortham Center for a concert- really helpful. It's first come first served. It looks like there is a paid parking lot if you don't want to use the valet (pretty pricey at like $60 something). Valet charged by the night with in and out privileges. So the only thing that I would have rated lower is the room service food. Out of a dinner and a breakfast the food was just average. Crab cakes tasted somewhat bitter for some reason and were partially burned. The asparagus was a bit too charred. Burger was pretty good but a bit small-ish. Caesar salad was pretty good. Short rib hash for bfast - meat didn't have much flavor. Had good potential (eggs and chopped red onions with it were good) but didn't achieve it. Pancakes were a bit burned on one side. Breakfast sandwich was enjoyable. Despite the lackluster food experience I would definitely stay here again if I'm visiting downtown. read more

We had a great time at The Thompson Houston. The hotel is a beautiful, well located space in Houston. It is in a slightly quieter part of the city but with extremely convenient drive times to other major parts of the city. The proximity to the Bayou is also nice if you want to walk around the park. The interior is beautifully decorated and there is a great rooftop pool/patio bar. Our room was spacious and well laid out with great amenities. Although our stay was short, we found our stay at The Thompson to be one of the highlights of our trip and we would certainly come back. My only con was that valet was a bit pricy at $50+ per night and I didn't always feel that it was the quickest or best customer service. Top tier luxury hotel!! Parking is very simple, they have a massive lot that splits off into two separate lots but both are in the same area as the hotel so it takes you seconds to walk from your car to the hotel. If you can't walk very far or just don't want to, they have valet parking as well. I wish I could have remembered to take a pic of the pricing because mine was comped due to me being there for an event. As you walk up to the doors, they are opened for you by hotel staff who kindly greet you and welcome you with open arms! Guest check in is on the 7th floor. The 7th floor is where most of the action is happening!! They have several bar, one inside and one outside via a mobile setup. You can also order a variety of food from the bar/restaurant inside. There are unlimited lounge areas for guests to utilize. They have outdoor and indoor seating! The pool is massive, almost Olympic size with the most epic view of the skyline. While here, they have cabanas, poolside chairs and lounge chairs and couches that you could sit down at. There was always plenty of seating each time we went down for a swim. You can order from their poolside menu, both drinks and food. They have a DJ come in and play tunes from 3-6 each day. They usually have a liquor sponsor what passes out complimentary cocktails and or sparking wine to guests poolside and they also pass out complimentary snacks to beat the heat. Our room was top tier, down to the detail on the TV screen. They have a personalized welcome note on the TV screen. The beds and pillows are the softest you will probably lay on in a while! It feels like you're floating on cloud 9. The walk in shower is fit for queens!! I enjoyed their bath products and the giant lighted makeup mirror. United had a meltdown and dumped me halfway through a trip home, leaving me in Houston unexpectedly for two days without my bags. The saving grace in all of that was finding this hotel and making the best out of my 48 hours. The Thompson Houston was fabulous! It is breathtaking, from the views, to the common areas, to the rooms. Everything is modern, tasteful, spacious and high end. The design of the hotel is unparalleled! The staff were always welcoming and friendly and made our stay very comfortable. The location is also fantastic. It's across from a huge park with trails (you can borrow e-bikes from the hotel to explore the surroundings) and it was a relatively short walk (15-20 minutes) to downtown. Ubers were also super easy to get around and they have a nice, clean house car that will drop you off anywhere you need to go in the area for free. The service in the restaurant was slow, but otherwise the food is good and the setting is relaxing, bright, and comfortable. I'm so glad I had a chance to stay here and would recommend it to anyone staying in Houston! read more

Here today! The Thompson Hotel hosted journalists, photographers and press to review the 2026 Hyundai's Genesis GV 70 and 80 good Lord I just love my occupation! That's a fine luxury driving car, they handle very well on the open road. Ok look, the Genesis have speakers underneath the seats, I slammed on the breaks during traffic and she damn near stopped herself, smooooth ride I mean smooth, I took a corner fast and she turned without yanking my neck, I put her in sports mode on the Hardy Toll and I know I was doing 90 mph she felt like 65 mph, quiet ride too, I played Megan the Stallion Weneva song and I imagined myself in her video when she was driving feeling myself. I was turned off by the dashboard, naaaa too much. Oh I'm sorry it's about Thomson Houston. Staff was highly trained at professionalism, because this assignment was in our plan clothes they treated me as if I was a guest at the hotel. Several times I was told guest rooms were on the 7th floor lol, I always played along and told them my person was coming down :) The Hotel smelled AAAMAZING, I wasn't sure if the fragrance was coming from the FENDI store adjacent to the hotel or what. The Thompson Hotel lies in the heart of Houston, Tx Downtown which makes it perfect for tourists and those that love to run, walk or bike. Memorial trail can be seen outside the hotel window especially Thompson 2 restaurants. Many fine restaurants are in walking distance and Houston's exciting night life. Loved the property. The staff was superb. We hit a few bumps when it came to service but they were more than accommodating. I did book a king size room with a small couch in the room and that's not what I got, seemed like a small version of it. It does get pretty loud at night with Toca Madera right next door to it...which we love and dined there. Their in room dinning was not the best and Sol restaurant service must be understaffed because the wait on everything was almost unbelievable. The pool was fabulous!! I've been wanting to check out the Thompson since it opened. I'm a hotel snob and love to experience the full shebang whenever I have the opportunity. I booked a room for myself and also invited some girlfriends to join me for the day by the pool. Valet is a little tricky to find, mainly because the map directions have you try to enter in the back which is a wrong way entrance. The actual entrance is on Allen pkwy, right when you see toca Madera turn in there. Then continue straight and the valet is the second driveway on the left. The first driveway is for the residences. Sarah at the valet was kind, friendly and efficient. She got the car whisked off handed me my ticket and helped me with my luggage. Check in is at the 7th floor. You need to go into the lobby area and go to the elevators on the left past the restaurant Chardon. Check in was easy, Yolanda was kind and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised my room was ready at 10:30am. It was nice to be able to put my stuff in the room and have a place to change for the pool. They had the events and specials advertised on the lobby floor which was informative and appreciated. Brandon at the hotel lobby bar was fun and had great service. Erin the revenue manager was friendly and informative about the hotel offerings. The pool is beautiful, it's an infinity pool with great views of the city. They have towels, water, umbrellas and sunscreen available. Staff was friendly. There were only about 10 chais lounge chairs around the pool area that you could use without paying extra for a daybed or cabana. I found that pretty limiting. Luckily we got there early and were able to have four chairs together. They also have some water loungers in the pool as well as a sun deck with 40+ chairs but that looked HOT. They did close the pool twice while we were there because of the storm that rolled in. But that was for our safety and nothing anyone could change. It did cut our day kind of short though. Another thing, they charge you a pool Service charge of 20% and then servers say that don't get any of that. So you are basically paying 40% on top of your bill for and food or drinks. After the second rain closure, we ended up going down to the 5th floor and just relaxed in the lounge area and read our books which was nice. The WIFI is horrible, they need to get a better mesh system or more routers installed. I would say that's was my number one complaint. I could barely use my phone due to the poor service. The rooms are beautiful, beds are comfortable, showers are huge and they have a great light up vanity with day and night lighting. I feel the signage could be better for the water bottles. They are complementary but the way the card is labeled as a guest I was unsure if I would be charged for a refillable water bottle. I called the front desk and they let me know they were included and complementary. They have a beverage station on the floor where you can refill your water bottle. There is also a water bottle filling station by the fitness center in the hallway outside. They also do not have coffee in the room or lobby. You can only purchase it at the restaurant or maven coffee shop or room service. For a luxury hotel I find that off putting and cheap. There is also no real desk to work at. So if you're here for work I might consider a different hotel. I would come back but I don't know if I would stay here again overnight. The hotel is also quite loud at night and in morning the maids get going and you can hear people in the halls. Even with a noise machine, ear plugs and a face mask I could still hear everything. The separation for noise though was not the best both between rooms and also from the outside. There was very loud music being blasted around midnight and security was kind enough to check it out and have it fixed for us. All in all, a nice room albeit a bit on the noisier side. read more

This brand new Thompson just opened one week ago! They were still putting up wall art and filling up the pool when I arrived. I was so excited to stay at a brand new hotel! My initial impression was mixed... I loved the freakishly large shower that could fit 6 people, the DS&Durga bath amenities, incredible views and signature quirky Thompson interior design throughout. But their non suite rooms are on the smaller end for US standards. Giant bathrooms but tight living space - I wish there was a small desk/chair in the room but I guess Thompson lifestyle guests don't work in their rooms? Beware their marketing materials on Instagram, FB, etc - those are pictures of their roomier suites. The non suite rooms are smaller and less bright. I was definitely disappointed at check in but was fine after resetting expectations. The rooms are still very nice and luxuriously decorated. The hotel has a pair of complementary BMW house cars that will take you anywhere in a 3 mile radius (no pick up and it's first come first serve) and it's only a 5min ride to downtown Houston. They have valet parking. The pool and spa were not yet open when I visited but the gym was open - it was nicely set up. The team is still working out their quirks. I messaged the team in advance via messenger as directed by their app and never received a response. At check in, I was told their system was booking rooms that aren't actually available. Front desk staff weren't fully knowledgeable about Hyatt elite member perks but free breakfast for Globalists were honored though upgrades were not proactively applied so you'll have to ask. Couldn't find concierge at 6:30pm on a Saturday. Great atmosphere in public spaces. Excellent front desk welcome. All staff we encountered were professional and personable. Water stations don't work on our floor. Highlight was our dinner at Chardon, which just opened this week. High end French with a touch of Texas. Great service from David. Got the chance to visit and enjoy the Thompson Houston, by Hyatt for a family member's wedding. Beautiful place and the set up of the wedding was lovely! The transition from ceremony to reception did take sometime but with the couple having a cocktail hour it did make the time pass by quicker. There is also a rooftop patio where you can enjoy the Houston Downtown skyscrapers. This area is a great photo opportunity as well. I highly recommend this place to host your wedding or an important event. read more

Booked a room on the hotels website for a staycation. When booking I had a skyline view or park view option. I selected skyline (higher price). When I checked in the lady informed me their system just showed a standard king room. I pulled up the reservation email and conveniently they do not include which view you booked. So both of my rooms over looked the parking lot. Not a good start... we headed to the pool which was packed only to be told that the wait staff would not wait on us because we weren't in a seat (no seats are available). The pool has nice views but it was extremely cloudy and filled with hair. Can't comment on the food since we could not get a seat to eat and had to Uber to a nearby restaurant. The rooms were nice except they don't close all the way on their own so make sure you double check that the door is actually closed before walking off. All in all, not the best customer service or amenities especially when you compare it to some of Houston's other higher end hotels. read more

My wife and I have been fans of the Thompson brand for a while. Our most recent stay was at the Thompson Madrid. The Houston Thompson has raised the bar even more. We decided to celebrate our babymoon here and the Houston Thompson team pulled out all the stops to make our stay extra special. They even had a pregnancy pillow in the suite for my wife- wow! Victor was a total rockstar. The rooms were very well appointed and the views of the Houston skyline unrivaled. The house car service was very convenient. Cedric took great care of us. The fitness center had all the equipment needed for a vacation workout. We will definitely be returning in the future- next time with the baby! read more

Will start off with bougie. I mean if you like a place to relax and unwind. This is it. From the pool area to the bar/restaurant was supreme. The only thing I'll say is do not get a room on the Allen parkway side. The street is noisy after hours and not just a little bit either. Other than that the staff. Room. And valet service are top notch. I don't like anyone driving or parking my car but all was simply beyond expectation. Will stay here again. It felt like they not only closed but were kicking people out of the space. This was disappointing as there were 8 of us looking to talk and hang out with some night caps. I am normally a loyal Marriott patron, however this Hyatt property in the heart of Houston's Buffalo Bayou Neighborhood on Allen Parkway adjacent to Houston's Historic Freeman's Town is a jewel. The chic, ultramodern boutique Hotel and Resident Mix Property was both quaint and luxurious. We truly enjoyed our stay and will recommend to our future guest for accommodations. read more

Beautiful hotel. It's the worst service on earth. Not worth the expense. Horrible! I hate writing this review, but it's real.

Breathtaking views! This new, modern hotel is gorgeous. The double height lobby is like a cozy modern library with plenty of sofas and seats. The food at Sol 7 restaurant is delicious, especially the steak and eggs. The rooftop area is amazing and the landscaping is awesome; however, the pool wasn't ready and opening next week. The fitness center was decent; however, the spa wasn't ready and opening next week as well. Our suite had an awesome view of downtown Houston skyline! read more

Overall it's a nice new hotel property visually (opened in January). The view and the pool are nice. That's where it ends. The service is terrible - hotel staff, restaurant, pool...all completely unacceptable. It was confusing how such an expensive (false luxury) hotel has such terrible service. IMPORTANT: watch out for the variety of hidden fees. Add an additional $100-$150 a night on top of published room rate. There 7 different service and/or tax fees added. The spa adds 21% service fee and requests an additional 20% gratuity...what? The bill for poolside drinks included a hidden 20% as well. Not worth the money. So many better quality and service oriented hotels to choose from. read more
