This is the second location of the Brick Room in Toronto. Their first location opened 2 years ago in the path at the entrance to Brookfield place near the go train. This second location is located outside on the beautifully picturesque cobblestone road named Temperance Street. The building is historic and the calm interiors make you feel instantly at home. The staff was really nice and told me about their menu and seasonal items. In addition to coffee and matcha based beverages, the store offers food and merch as well. Apparently this location is a laptop free zone, offering an incredibly welcome oasis from the hustle and bustle of financial district. Today I ordered a cortado. Before you even drink it, the fragrant coffee smell hits you. A bit sweet and almost fruity. When drinking it, the flavours amplify and provide an overall sense of calm, a breath of fresh air. It doesn't just feel like a regular old coffee but that you can take your time with it, like having a conversation with an old friend, it is meant to be savoured. A very modern coffee shop serving creative matchas and coffees. Their Goma was a delicious matcha dessert/drinks. Not too sweet but I wish the matcha was stronger. Had high hopes for this one. Left with a lighter wallet and mixed feelings. I get that matcha prices in Toronto have gotten a bit out of hand lately, and that's more of a city-wide problem than something specific to The Brick Room. But $12 for a small drink that's mostly ice is a tough sell. Two drinks and a breakfast sandwich came to $36, which stung a little more when we sat down for a full lunch for two people right after for a similar amount. To put it in perspective: a venti matcha latte with milk alternatives at Starbucks run under $8. When did Starbucks become the budget option? The cafe itself is cute and the staff were genuinely friendly, which counts for something. But there weren't any proper tables to actually sit and enjoy your drinks, which felt like a bit of an oversight for a cafe experience. The drinks were fine. Mine had a sparkling milk in it, which was a fun and unique touch. But in terms of taste, nothing really wowed me or made me want to order it again. The breakfast sandwich was a letdown too. Honestly, a McMuffin would've been more satisfying. Cute spot with good energy, but the value just isn't there. Hard to justify coming back when so many other cafes in the city deliver more for less. read more

Excited that Brick Room opened a second location that is NOT in the path and open on weekends! I've had the drinks at Brick Room before and they're always very innovative with their creations. Checking out this location it's all vibe and super adorable inside. They even have a little back outdoor patio space for you to enjoy your drinks. The only reason that this isn't a 5 star is that their drinks are definitely on the sweet side and this is throughout their locations - think they can scale back on the sugar for sure! Opted for their new seasonal mango sticky rice matcha latte which was really good and loved the bits of sticky rice in my drink. But it was on the sweeter side of things. Would've been perfect if they scaled back on the sugar content. Overall, delicious drinks with a rotating seasonal menu. Worth checking out, especially their new space is great for enjoying your cup of caffeine. read more

Finally tried The Brick Room on Temperance! I've been a frequent customer at the Brookfield location, so I wanted to make an extra effort to try the "newer" location. To be honest, the store and decor are so much better than the original store. Maybe because there's usually more traffic in the PATH, so it takes more time for them to keep up? Anyways, the store was cozy and clean and I felt extra welcomed as soon as I stepped in. I got my usual flat white and of course it came with latte art :) They sell more beans and merchandise than the original store, so definitely check it out if you have a chance! read more

The inside of this cafe is super cute! I came on a Saturday afternoon and it was really crowded. Seating is pretty limited, mostly a long bench along the wall and a few tables in the back, but we were lucky enough to get two bar seats by the window. I'd definitely come here to get some work done if I could manage to grab a table. I was really intrigued by their seasonal menu, they have some very fun and creative drinks. From their winter menu, we tried: * Brown Noise: cold-brewed genmaicha and roasted barley layered with a hojicha cream finish * First Bite: ceremonial matcha with milk, topped with red apple cream I do wish you could adjust the sweetness level, but unfortunately they don't allow any modifications. The genmaicha drink was my favorite, it was super delicious. I wish the roasted barley flavor came through a bit more, but overall it paired really nicely with the hojicha cream. It wasn't heavy at all. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of their seasonal drinks. read more

Amazing experience! Tried the Sunset Match (mango cold foam, match, with strawberry purée at the bottom). It was delicious! Someone came around once we had seated to give us some water. The barista who took our order was very nice. The entire ambiance of the cafe was very calm and relaxing, great for a midday break. I'll be back to try some more on the menu! read more

The Brick Room located along Temperance and Yonge St. is this coffee shop's second location. Currently in their soft opening phase, they offer the same delicious coffees and pastries as their first location - with a bonus...this location opens on the weekends (yay!). I stopped by The Brick Room on a Sunday around 10:30am. The place was completely empty. Upon entering, the space is similar to their other location with wood accents throughout. There is seating along the side where they also have a small back patio as well. There are pastries displayed in a case as well as coffee beans on display that you can purchase. No menu is available as of yet but I ordered my usual cortado. Was interesting because the staff asked me if I wanted a short or long cortado (I've never been asked that before!). She explained what the difference between the both of them were and I opted for a short cortado (same espresso to milk ratio). Had my drink there as well. Staff and I believe the owner was there - they were all really friendly and mentioned that there will be upcoming collaborations with other places to look forward to. Their grand opening will also be soon as well. As I enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere inside the coffee shop, staff were nice enough to also bring me a glass of water. This location will definitely be as popular as their first location once everyone knows about it! A great option for coffee in the Yonge/King area! read more

The Brick Room has opened a new location at Yonge St and Temperance St, beside Sud Furno. They are currently in a very soft opening and expect to grand open next Saturday, August 30th. I visited today, Fri Aug 22 around 3PM. There are 2 other guests sitting outside in their backyard patio. The team looks to be in the process of setting up the cafe so most drinks and pastries are unavailable at this time. I ordered the Ichigo Matcha. Ichigo is Japanese for Strawberry. The way they make it is coconut water on ice, drizzled with strawberry syrup and topped with a matcha cold foam. I feel this was the best Strawberry Matcha iteration I've tried so far and I've tried many, and made many. I thought the use of coconut water was a clever choice as it helps bring out a more complex sweetness to the drink. I thoroughly enjoyed drinking it. The theme of the cafe is nature: lots of greenery and light coloured wooden elements, with natural light flowing in and soft lights to create a relaxed atmosphere. The music playing is easygoing, jazzy, a little funky, and slow. Perfect for focusing if you have tasks to work on. They have bench style seating with raised mini tables resembling small stools throughout the perimeter of the cafe. On one of them, I found a cute little wooden tic tac toe game. They also have a high table with stools that can fit 6 people. They have normal chairs, long benches that aren't wall adjacent, and a wooden sofa (forgot what the word for it is). They also have the outdoor seating, but not sure how much seating. It seemed spacious from my seat. They have a wall of coffee beans and coffee merch. They feature the coffee beans they use and their packaging at their counter. They have a mix of permanent signature beans that they use as well as a rotating menu. Beautiful place, honestly. I've always liked their specialty teas an overall beverage offering. Yes usually on the expensive end. I was hoping they have more variety of hot specialty drinks over winter but they only had one choice 4.5 stars for their specialty drinks, beans selection, and service. 3 star for the rest of my review. Not a fan of their baked food selection nor tastes. You see it and you'll understand. Wish they had more seating for comfortable conversations with friends. We ended up listening to a very loud date conversation beside us at the communal high table which was annoying simple because the guy sounded arrogant and we felt bad for the girl. This is a 5th Level matcha and coffee shop. They are artistic and scientific how they create their drinks. I suggest the matcha drinks are a bit better than the lattes. I say that only because I prefer high caffeinated drinks. These are more sweet and nut with the caffeine kick I usually go for. The employees are extremely nice. The little postcards they hand you describing the drinks are cute. I also prefer this Temperance Street location. They have seating but it is always crowded. But even sitting at the bar is nice. Such a cute little coffee/matcha shop in downtown Toronto. They have interesting beverages for purchase, and the menu changes seasonally. Unfortunately, my friend and I went the day of the new winter menu, when we were keen to try the autumn drinks, so we weren't able to get the ones we wanted. We did try the two varieties of matcha (one with a black sesame cream foam, and the other with a lighter milky cream foam). The flavour was good, but nothing amazing. I did think the overall cost/worth of the bevarage was not there, especially considering the amount of ice in the drink. The matcha cookie was delicious though. The cafe has cute seating and small tables along the edges of the room and a nice outdoor patio. The servers come around and refill water for you if you're sitting at the cafe, so that was a nice touch. I'd be curious to try some of the other seasonal beverages, but don't think I'd go back for the winter menu. read more

The Brick Room is a cute, small-ish cafe with a minimalist Japanese style. They have little tic-tac-toe boards and small seats which make it nice to sit and chill for an hour or so, but I wouldn't recommend it as a place for working or studying, especially as the tables are pretty small. For drinks, we got 2 matcha lattes from their specialty menu, which we absolutely loved. The Ichigo matcha comes with strawberry and coconut, and the Summer Vacation is a mango sticky rice-inspired matcha. The quality of the ingredients and matcha is amazing - they're super fresh, and the flavors really stand out. They're definitely pricey drinks and pretty heavy (more like desserts), so if you're in the mood for a special treat and you like matcha, definitely go check them out. We also got one of their breakfast sandwiches and it was pretty solid. Plus, the baristas are really sweet! Overall, the matcha lattes get a 4.75/5, the food gets a 3.5/5 (nothing special), and the ambiance gets a 4/5 (pretty but not super practical for long stays). read more
