Horrible. I didn't even hire these guys, but they were brought in by buyers to inspect my home. It was drizzling that morning so I when I saw muddy foot prints all throughout my house I was a little pissed. However, when I saw the dirty, oily hand prints on my new paint job and where the asshole rested his ladder against my newly painted closet, I was furious. These guys are hacks. Cathy ended up doing the Radon test 3 times for reasons outside of her control. She's very honest. The only thing that was missed during inspection was the return vent right next to the furnace. They inspected an 11 year old home we were buying. We found out after the sale went through that there was a slope in the second floor. Not one mention of it in the report. EDIT TO KNOCK OFF A STAR - SEE POINT NUMBER 3 Used this service for our first home purchase. I totally understand that inspectors miss things, but after over 5k in repairs later and being told by multiple contractors/real estate professionals that these things shouldn't have been missed, I am coming here to review the $600 inspection we received. 1. We were told we needed some minor roof bracing in the attic because of a single cracked rafter. Contractor came to look for an estimate, and upon getting on my roof, found a valley that, when stepped on, allowed him to bounce up and down a full foot. Ends up the "cracked rafter" was actually just the appearance of the wood grain, and the inspector not only missed the bouncing/valley while he was on our roof, but missed the fact that a major support beam was just hanging (thus the valley) when he was in the attic. Even me with an untrained eye could see it for myself once my contractor pointed it out We had to rip out a quarter of our roof and have that section of our attic re-framed and the roof re-shingled. A $4,300 repair for which we likely would've gotten credit at closing. Strike one. 2. The attic access door was never properly reinforced around the edges - not an expensive fix but again..something he should've seen when he went into the attic. Strike two. 3. The icemaker for the refrigerator was connected to the hot water underneath our sink using a poly tube that was marked DO NOT USE FOR ICEMAKERS. I know he went under there and looked right at it, as he took the time to note the hot water under our sink was turned off in his inspection report. Needless to say, the tubing burst from excessive heat/pressure the other night, dumping probably 4-5 gallons of water into our kitchen. Just got our quote from the plumber - ends up this guy ALSO missed the fact our kitchen was completely set up not to code. Tack on $949 for that! We went with BrickKicker based on a recommendation from our realtor (my mother in law), and after this she told us she no longer feels 100 percent comfortable recommending their services to her clients, especially first time homebuyers who don't know any better and may not catch these things. read more

Brick Kicker was OK on our purchase of an older home in the Western Suburbs. The report caught a few good things that we were able to address, but missed some obvious things as well. The knob on one radiator was not actually attached and was simply balanced on top of the radiator. The knob on another radiator would not turn. Neither of these issues is noted in the report, even though the inspector tested the boiler / radiator system and noted it was funcrionaBecause we didn't use the radiators until winter - well after closing - we were pretty much out of luck. In general though, the inspector was responsive, timely, and friendly. I would probably not use them for an older home. Update in response to comment from business: as not noticing a knob literally balancing on top of the valve of the radiator sounds to have been intentional "to avoid liability," I am lowering my rating to 1 star. read more
