Coming from Gresham area it was definitely a change, I noticed less colors folk and more white faces as the months ago on. Staff/management made me feel so uncomfortable and unwanted. Body language and facial expressions speak louder than words sometimes. Management in the office would always mug me whenever coming in and out of the building, checking the mail, taking the trash out, etc. It was not just the looks that made me feel this way, there was a time where a got an email saying that my partner and pet weren't not allowed on the property and that they told me " multiple" times that his not allowed. They told me Twice... not the point but The staff member that " witness my partner" did not take the extra step in seeing if it was truly the person who was not supposed to be on the property but yet simple saw an colored man ( My friend Charlie who Hispanic) with their hood up walking out the building. She could of simply stop us before exiting and told me again his not allowed. Seeing for her own two eyes that it was in fact not my partner. My pet is an companion pet and Tabor view loft has his papers on file! The staff member never went through my account before sending me that email. Unprofessional in my eyes! I understand my partner but my dog? If you do like me you can just say that but you DO NOT mess with my dog! But NO she simply went to file a report before she clocked out for the day. So quick to point the finger. I felt as the time went on living at Tabor view loft the more I felt racially profiled, discriminated and harassed. I honestly never been more depressed to pay for somewhere to live than Tabor View lofts. It felt as if the staff/management was my warden and guards. For the small amount of space it was truly NOT worth the money to live there! The new update appliances are nice but they use expensive products, the water pressure sucks! If you have an type of pet that sheds hair the washer/ dryer will not satisfy you surely do not satisfy me! It will also leave a weird odor on your towels.

Even during my move out inspection appointment, no one from the leasing office showed up. The leasing office was often closed during posted office hours, and sometimes there were employees inside during office hours, but the blinds were drawn and the door was locked. Just an overall unwelcoming, unhelpful experience. The unit itself was nice and updated but it was not worth it. I've lived in other buildings with much more attentive staff. We have reason to believe you are engaging in redlining by offering different rental rates to white tenants versus the inflated price we were charged. Simply based of the land historic systematic racism that has been prevelant in NE portland. During a unexplainable event, police were called and a PPB officer drew a gun on my husband, stating, "is it a black male?" when he opened the door to check what was going on in the halls. This occurred after hours of silence from management and a lack of any information. Negligence and Failure to Maintain Habitable Conditions The property has a chronic management turnover, with five rotations of management in one year, creating a lack of accountability. Mold has re-emerged in the same location, indicating a failure to properly remediate the initial problem. In addition when the intial mold remediation attempt started a contractor told me it is best to remove the island but Ben a representative of Axcess 15 at the time told him no its too expensive. After that contractor was called down to the office he was never seen again, which is retaliation. We experienced multiple severe maintenance failures with no communication from management, including a burst pipe, frequent sewage backups into our kitchen sink, and extended fire alarms. The dangerously tight and poorly designed parking situation remains a daily safety hazard.

I lived at 2121 Belmont for close to six years…read more As of 2021, in terms of build quality and customer service, it's difficult to think of a better building in inner SE! - Originally built as condos, so great quality build, including hardwood floors, granite countertops, thick walls, etc. Weirdly, I could hear when my neighbors opened and closed their sunshades, but I could never hear dogs barking, loud music, etc. - Some ground-level apartments with private entrances available if you have a dog or bike that requires easy access to the street. - Parking spots available, package lockers, small gym, and a dog wash. In six years, I maybe lost two packages, which is remarkable! - Along the 15 bus route, so easy commute Downtown for work, with easy transfers to NE along MLK Blvd. If you bike: very easy to access anything in SE, Downtown, the Pearl, or inner NE. Wonderful location to pick up cycling for transportation! - Within easy biking distance of tons of coffee shops--very ideal outside of COVID times! - Across from Colonel Summers Park, next door to a cemetery (quiet neighbors!) that's nice for walks. - Generally pretty friendly neighbors. I lived in the building for close to six years, but one of my next-door neighbors had lived there even longer! - In six years, my rent went up about $75. There are a few caveats, however: - Most of the units do not have "true" bedrooms; if you look at the layout diagrams, the bedroom is in the middle of the apartment with no windows. I didn't realize how much that affected me until I moved out. The darkness really does get to you, even if you purchase a smart lamp. - Relatedly, the building is North/South facing, so in most of the units, you don't get great light--especially during winter. - There are lots of things "nearby", but very few things right outside your door: a couple restaurants, one bar, a dispensary, an LGBTQ clinic. I wouldn't call the area walkable so much as bikeable. If you have a car, it's no trouble at all, though. - The quality of the building really relies on the quality of the staff. For the first year I lived at 2121 Belmont, it was amazing! The past few years have been great, as well. There were a few years in-between, though, that were sketchy at best: no cleaning the trash rooms, no cleaning pet waste in front of the building. Once had a maintenance guy walk into my apartment without notice while I was in the shower--that guy no longer works there. Otherwise, a great building. Waking up to these incredible views while having easy access to all of Portland via highway 84 or the Max stop at our doorstep gives you a sense that you're at the center of it all. The location is the perfect mix of urban living while benefiting from the less chaotic pace of a suburban neighborhood. Among my favorite characteristics is the diversity of the neighbors which have all been incredibly warm. This may be that a large percentage of them are dog owners and are naturally outgoing and conscientious. It makes for a great vibe while out on the terrace or spending time in the spa. The staff at Aster tower deserve a resounding accolade. I've experienced nothing short of professionalism from all of them, and they are a welcome sight at the front desk. I've been a huge fan of my apartment layout and the smart design that dots the space. With the recent heat wave Portland was experiencing temperatures of up to 116 degrees. My saving grace is that all our units have air conditioning. This is a rarity in Portland even in new developments. It will certainly come to be an important feature in the coming years. As I post this review I'm rather amiss about Megan's review below. Perhaps this is their first foray into adulthood and they have never come across a lease agreement before but Hassalo is very upfront about the $165 a month parking space. A charge that is comparable to the vast majority of buildings I came across in my search -- if not cheaper. Did they not tour the handicap accessible apartment before signing? Rather bizarre that you accepted a living space only to complain about it in a public forum as if it was forced upon you. Aster Tower is definitely worth your consideration and if you're on the fence I would recommend you take the plunge.

Rent WILL go up a fraction of a percent under the max allowed by law every year. Expensive amenities and rooftop are closed at hilariously restrictive hours, and usually during holidays when you might want to use them (closed rooftop during 4th of July viewing hours). I always paid rent on-time and was still completely banned from the online payment system for simple mistakes. NOT PET FRIENDLY. Dog relief area on the 2nd floor reeks of urine and attracts dangerous and irresponsible dogs and owners. I paid a "pet rent" every single month (over $2000 cumulatively), then was charged an obscene amount on move-out for pet-related wear and tear on floors they obviously planned to replace anyway. Conveniently the "pet rent" didn't seem to factor in here. They don't take a security deposit on move in so they can instead charge you as much as they want on move-out. Just don't give this massive greedy company your money. There are less predatory options out there in lively parts of the city for a fraction of the price.

Later, I transferred into a two-bedroom. There are a couple of things to know before moving here. These are vintage apartments, which means that if you don't monitor the moisture in your own apartment, you could potentially have an issue with mold. I have never had any mold issues in either of my units. Another thing to note is that there is no dishwasher, and laundry is shared with three other units. I have never had to wait to do laundry, and I don't mind washing dishes. The property manager, Shelley, is very responsive and takes care of things right away. Ricky is the maintenance man, and he is one of the friendliest people I know. He will get to know you, take care of any requests promptly, and always have a friendly conversation with you when he sees you around the property.

So lets start with Pros: 1) Beautiful, vintage, hardwood floors, tons of storage, lots of windows! (enough adjectives?) When you walk in, you get this feeling of spaciousness. The windows are large and let in tons of light (my apt before this one, did not, so I super appreciated it), the hardwood floors are beautiful (though a bit well used). 2) Beautiful courtyard and maintained landscaping. You feel like you are in a garden. 3) Quite neighborhood. Mostly young professionals, I lived there for 5 years and I don't think I once saw a kid (nothing against kids, but it did make the courtyard nice and quite). And the building that I was in, was super friendly. I knew my neighbors, they knew me, and quite often we did a "food exchange" where we would leave pastries, etc at each other's doors. 4) The management is great. When I first moved in, Luna worked there and she was so friendly and always there to help. Then when she moved on, Paul took over (I think he's still there) and he was nice too. The maintenance is great. They show up within a day or two of sending in a request. (in fact, I once flooded the kitchen from a broken pipe on Thanksgiving, and they showed up and weren't bitchy about it at all. Felt bad, but they were sweet about it) 5) I swear you will never run out of hot water...I take like 30 minute boiling hot showers...never ran out of hot water once. Booyah! 6) Also, for the most part, soundproofing is pretty good. That's not to say that if your neighbor has a party with loud music you won't hear it, but for everyday life, it's pretty quite. 7) Secured entryway which was nice. The Cons: 1) The heating is steam heat from radiators. So when they turn on, you will hears some loud ass clanging. My mum was staying over once and she thought someone was trying to break in. So be prepared to be hear some clanging at like 5 in the morning (no joke). Also with the heat it's controlled by one (that's right, just one) thermometer for the entire complex. So at times your heat wouldn't turn on because that building hadn't been chilled enough, but yours had (le sigh). And finally about the radiator heat, and then I'll be done (hopefully), when I first moved in, the radiator in the living room & dining room didn't work, but the ones in the rooms did. So the rooms would be saunas and the rest of the house was freezing. Then we finally got smart and requested the radiators be fixed. Which was great because now our entire house had heat, but also radiators don't really have a dial, they are kind of either on or off. So we had the choice of having a sauna-like apartment or a freezing apartment. So we chose the latter and just opened all the windows in our house (in the middle of winter), so that it wouldn't get too warm. So be prepared. 2) Pipes are old in this building, so if you have long hair, be prepared to call maintenance every few months to help you with that issue. But it's not just long hair, you don't have a garbage disposal in the kitchen, so make sure to have a catchall for when you're washing dishes, or else you'll be in trouble (hence the flooding of the kitchen on Thanksgiving, you can't use drain-o on old pipes). And this only happened a few times and I think they fixed it, but on occasion the pipes break and then you'll have muddy water. As I said, only happened a few times in the 5 years I lived there, so I don't think it's a consistent problem, but ye be warned. 3)This might not be an issue for every unit, but our oven would not keep temperature, and as an avid baker, it drove me insane. The neighbors below us said that they did not have that problem. 4)If your apartment is on 18th, parking will not be an issue, at all...ever. There is a parking lot across the way that has a sign saying "don't park here" but don't worry, they have never towed. That being said, if you live on 18th, there is a motorcycle shop that shares that parking lot and they like to do donuts and ride really loudly starting at like 10pm to like 2pm. I was raised around motorcycles, so I found it rather soothing, my roommate however did not. As for parking for the rest of the complex...I'm unsure, but it looked like a total bitch. So something to think about. Okay I think that's all the cons, so as you can see the pros out weigh the cons. I've noticed that a lot of property management companies have horrible reviews, so I wanted to say that this place was great. I would have lived there for years to come if rent hadn't gotten too high for me and my roommate hadn't moved to Costa Rica. Hope this helps!
