They are accessible, responsive and flexible. Their healthcare assessments, arrangements and execution have been excellent. They show empathy for the residents, and understanding of the aging process. The food tastes wonderful; they offer healthy, balanced nutrition. The serving staff are very caring; genuinely nice people. Virtually everyone of the staff (nurses, aides, cleaning, concierge, social, PT, maintenance, security and other support) seems sincere, dedicated and kind. The Ambassador is moderate in size, which allows a more intimate and personal touch. For example, employees greet most residents by name. The physical layout is logical and manageable. There are a reasonable amount of diverse activities for the residents. It's in a new, well-constructed building, designed with foresight and well-maintained. The facilities are well-lit, and heating/cooling are comfortable. I'm not sure why the previous reviewer (a year ago) found the atmosphere too formal; my parents have found the resident community and staff quite warm and friendly -- with a few characters interspersed. While at the gym today, a very infirmed man had trouble and was in pain to the point of nearly fainting. I asked if he needed help since he could barely stand even with a walker. I looked around the Ground floor for help, but there was no one. I recommended that he press his emergency pendent, which he did. No one came. After five minutes, still no one came. More time passed. Still no one. I decided to go upstairs to the main desk to say someone needed help in the gym. They said they were aware of the emergency call but could not locate him. I then went downstairs and noticed a woman had finally arrived. However, she was rude, and ignored his request for a wheelchair, and began for forcefully push him backwards on his walker. When he mentioned his frustration about not being found after pushing the pendent, she just responded, "I'm here now." I said she arrived only because of me notifying the front desk, and she again slightly angrily repeated her statement. I was appalled at her attitude, but more importantly, her ignoring his request for a wheelchair, which he clearly needed. I went upstairs to reflect what I witnessed and to complain. I was then introduced to a manager. I said that I would hate to have my 84 year old mother treated this way if she had an emergency.

Let me first address the one review stating that the Chelsea has a predatory process. While I completely understand the frustrations of the paperwork and the entire process you have to go through, It's not predatory. Every facility requires this. I know because my brother and I visited 5 facilities, and this is the process. I do wish it had been simpler, but it never made me feel like it was predatory. The staff at the Chelsea are all wonderful. I am there all the time, as I am a freelance makeup artist running my own business, and make my own schedule. The Chelsea is ten minutes from me so it's easy for me to stop by often, and my dad likes my presence. I also did not want a facility that was too far from me or my brother who lives in NYC. He can easily take the train from GCT to the very close by Hartsdale train station. In our search for an assisted living facility it was important that not only did it have good care, but that it be aesthetically pleasing, and that the staff be friendly, caring and attentive. I have gotten to become so friendly with the staff. The staff is always around, helpful and kind. I am so especially fond of Franchesca, who did our tours, as I went alone initially, and came back with my brother. She is literally one of my most favorite humans on the face of the earth. The most kind, caring and genuine souls out there! The Chelsea's decor is beautiful! So modern and visually alluring. There were some growing pains in the beginning with the move and transition, but it's going to happen no matter where your loved one ends up. Management has always made the time to discuss any issues or concerns and offer resolutions. I know we made the right choice with the Chelsea. There are also tons of great restaurants, shopping and activities in the area to do with your loved one when you visit. Our dad likes the food here and the daily menus always looks appealing. They are also trying new offsite activities for the residents and are open to feedback. You can bring your beloved pet as long as you can safely manage him/her. My dad has his 9 year old labradoodle here, and she is the star of the Chelsea! Everyone loves her. Last year was a big process of change with our fathers new life and his early stage dementia. This isn't easy at all. If you drink alcohol, you will probably drink a lot more. As stressful as it is managing your loved ones life and finances, I can go to sleep knowing our dad is safe and not burning the house down because he forgot to turn the stove off. I will list what I know they have and I am sure I am missing something. First off, there are homes on the perimeter of the main building where residents who are retired can live on their own. These homes are pretty spectacular. The main residence has fully furnished apartments within a large facility. These apartments have large bedrooms, a very nice kitchen and a lovely living room area. The amenities are....seating dining area for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is delivered to the residents rooms each morning. There is a buffet dining room area. There is a bistro dining area. There is also a fine dining area which requires reservations and appropriate dress. I think there is another dining area but with so many dining areas I was getting a bit confused as to the options. Beauty salon with full services including manicures, library, banking, bingo, music hall on one floor and auditoriums on another floor. Exercise classes, art classes, all sorts of crafting classes, Swimming pool, movie area. There are common areas on the floors with large screen TV's for everyone to gather and watch TV. There is a thrift store on site open at specific times during the week. There are social workers on site that coordinate with the residents on activities to keep the residents up and moving. Medications are brought to the residents rooms daily at the time they are to take the medications. No worrying if your loved one has forgotten their medications at this place.They have a bus that takes residents shopping and also car service for off site events. Basically their own personal Uber. All of these amenities are in the living area where residents can live on their own with little or no assistance. Some of the residents do have their own aids that stay with them. Some residents have their dogs and are able to walk them on the lovely campus. This place is beautiful and has a beautiful setting. Off of the main building is the nursing home living area. This is for residents who need specialized and more monitored assistance. Even this area is amazing. Like no other care facility I have ever visited. As long as the resident is not bed ridden, they are up and in a common area either watching TV or participating in another activity. There are two floors to the nursing area. There is a common dining room where everyone eats their meals. They residents dine with a nursing assistant incase they need specialized help with eating. After eating the residents return to the common area to again watch TV or participate in other activities. The specialized nursing facility has residents rooms which in no way feel like a nursing home. Residents can bring in their own decorating items from home. Between each little quad of rooms is a common seating area with large screen TV's and books to read. There is a pantry with cereals, juices, milk and nutritional drinks in every flavor. It looks like the ratio of aids to patients is 2 to 1. No worry that your forgetful loved one might walk offsite without the facility being aware. The residents wear special watches which set off alarms should they go beyond the facilities doors. Only those patients that have a tendency to wander and be a bit forgetful wear these watches. This is a 5 star long term living resort for your loved one. If you can afford it, this is the place for any senior needing a little or a lot of extra help to live.

Once they took him it turned out to be the opposite of what they sold. Their sales people are not educated in health care. In the case of our Father, we were transparent about his Dementia and unsure what the proper place was for him. They assured us that they were familiar and had the proper structure in place to give him adequate care. They went further to say that they were building out a memory care unit which he would be perfect for. He never received the services they offered, which were PT, OT, Speech and Psych. He only received PT on a sporadic basis. They mismanaged his Meds for his first two months which we only found out during a med renewal period. They missed hygiene appointments and were late taking him to meals on several occasions. He was moved to another room due to bed bugs and left in confusion alone in the unfamiliar room for hours at a time resulting a face first fall whereby he was hospitalized after suffering a bad black eye and cut to the bridge of his nose. The Aides were completely untrained to handle full care and in fact took video without permission publicly ridiculing and chastising him. Our Dad suffered injuries, malnourishment and setbacks, which was devastating for our family. No one there took accountability. Instead they pressed us to get him out, which we were looking to and finally able to do. Unless they truly dedicate themselves to being nothing but a sales job, your cared one will be at risk there both in health and economically.

My mother had many happy years at the Esplanade at Palisades, with quality, conscientious care…read more  Then, on October 28, 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I believe the Esplanade staff exposed her to COVID by conducting a social event that involved removing her mask.  That is, a wine tasting, (though a conflicting report describes it as a tea party). I believe the staff acted just as irresponsibly again on October 31, when she attended Jewish services there that allowed congregants to remove their masks to pray. Multiple residents who took part in these two gatherings contracted COVID, including seven who died - one of whom was my mother. My brothers and I hold the management of the Esplanade responsible for these tragedies by being carelessly risky.
