I was warmly greeted by the head of Activities, Ms Charmaine Levy. The Staff was friendly and greeted me cordially. I happened to speak to a resident and had a nice conversation with her. I made her feel at ease and enjoyed the short conversation with her . I am looking forward to volunteering here. The Bristal is beautiful and inviting. If you want your loved ones to be ignored, and mistreated - send them to The Bristol White Plains for $12,000 a month. The memory care facility is best at taking advantage of those who cannot advocate for themselves. We also had things stolen, but the lack of care or compassion is what adds insult to injury. Well it is a corporation after all, it's all about the profit margins - with no humane component. read more

Nice facility, good food and some very caring people working here. Unfortunately theft is an ongoing problem and management doesn't seem interested in addressing the issue. Things disappear daily causing considerable stress to my mom. The housekeeping is also minimal. read more

A beautiful clean environment. It almost made me want to move in!! Nice folks, and it seems like the type of place it should be.

There are thieves working there. As you can read in other reviews this is ongoing. A family member had her jewelry stolen. Another member claimed she was ripped off and ignored because of old age. There was an incident after ours I am told from family member, a wallet stolen so why does this go on for years without Bristal doing anything about it ? Very disturbing for the elderly to be victims of people who are supposed to be taking care of them and having to live with people they cannot trust. read more

Responding to J.S. review - I do have a relative that lives at the Bristal White Plains and have gone through a similar experience as the one that you had except it was a 14K gold ring and a watch; the ring was given to my relative as a gift from her parents who are no longer on this earth - We still cannot find the items that are missing and we also searched high and low for them in the room; and spoke to so many people at the Bristal about it and we have come up with nothing. Cleaning staff said that they denied taking the items. The Bristal said that they did a thorough search for the items; but they are still missing. As for my relative's care at the Bristal it is Ok; right now my relative is in Reflections and has gone through quite a lot there - falls, other residents hitting her for no reason (resident that did this moved out) - As for Reflections itself - it is not as tidy as it should be - read more

Run....Run away as fast as you can. If you value paying $9000 a month for "care" which pretty much seems apathetic from every person in the facility...This is your place. I visited the facility 6 months ago as it became clear that my father was going to need to be in a full time memory care facility. I did lots of research and had tremendous apprehension as compared to the other NINE facilities in the area i visited. But my mother was the decision maker and she chose the Bristal White Plains because despite her age, she still drives and planned to visit my father daily; and this place was a shorter drive than the ones I preferred. We moved my father in there less than a month ago and already we have to move him out. I was there at the pre-intake meeting with the case manager where I spelled out certain things about my father's behavior which were going to be points to focus on....Specifically how he gets grumpy when he hasnt eaten....and we specifically talked about his diabetes...and we talked about how he likes to lie in bed all day. On the first day when he was supposed to be checked in I arrived a couple of hours before him to hand over his medicine and set-up his room...Hang pictures, that kind of thing. The apathy across the facility was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I wasnt even there with my father and the process at best could be described as terrible. It was so bad that I emailed the manager listed on the Bristal's parent website to go over how bad it was. I never received a response. Not even a "sorry to hear it" I mean ZERO response to a real person's email address.... Literally the Operations person for Ultimate Care Management (the group which owns Bristal)...as listed on their webpage with the email address publicly attached to the bio. If that isnt a microcosm of this terrible place i dont know what it....aesthetic window-dressing but emptiness inside. Within a couple of weeks there they started having problems with him....They were surprised to hear that he was a diabetic so they had been feeding him sugared foods. I mean WTF? I was there with the CASE MANAGER....its a kinda important piece of information which needs to make it to the people who serve the food. Then they started having issues with him being grumpy and not wanting to leave his room. So he'd go all day without eating. So basically within 2 weeks they had a diabetic they were feeding poorly who was then exhibiting behaviors they were specifically warned about before he was even in the building. Until they were deep into a crisis they never contacted us once. They shipped him off to the hospital with failing kidneys. So now they dont want him there and we dont want him there....So we're moving him to someplace which hopefully will listen better and give him a better life even with his memory care status. Took my mother (97yrs) to visit her sister-in-law (101yrs) who is a resident at the Bristal in White Plains. We visited in my aunt's room. My cousin joined us. There were four of us in the room, about as big as you would find in a midrange Marriot. The housekeeper came in at one point, my aunt introduced us, we exchanged pleasantries and she changed the towels in the bathroom. She was there about 2 minutes and left. When it came time to leave, my mother's purse was gone. We searched high and low. The wellness manager searched. We searched the room at least three times. No sign of it. The facility takes no responsibility for this loss. In total we're talking about $200.00 to replace the bag and the cash. They will not do this. I've had some experience with other facilities like this, residents often believe stuff is taken from their rooms. Sometimes the resident has dementia or is otherwise impaired and the reported loss is not taken seriously. No one in the room that day was impaired. The security cameras in the hall show that my mother had the purse when she arrived. The video did not show anyone leaving with it. The housekeeper denies taking anything. On the video she is seen carrying a plastic bag with dirty towels and another with trash. This is not a well run facility. Their hiring practices are lax. Their follow through in this instance was non existent in so far as if I hadn't called they would never have returned my calls. If it was my mother in this place I'd make sure I put a nanny cam in the room. In short, if you can't trust the facility to do the right thing, to treat visitors and residents with the courtesy and respect they deserve, to provide a safe environment, why would anyone want a loved one to spend any time at this Bristal or any other? read more

Ok, I feel like after my father living at this facility for just under two years, and having had to move him into a different assisted living facility per the Bristals executives Directors request, I feel like I can now make an honest assessment. The Bristal at White Plains is good. Here is the thing: if you are going to put a family member in ANY assisted living residence, remember, you only get out of it what not only your loved one puts in, but what YOU put in. I (along with my wife who is my absolute partner in this and quite honestly more vocal and pro-active than even me) constantly found his room to be unkempt, with crumbs and other forms of debris on the floor and stacks of his laundry washed and folded, but just dropped off and sitting on a chair waiting for someone to put it away. Note that my dad suffers from a neuro motor syndrome that has virtually robbed him of his ability to move. The day he moved in, I sat there as the head of housekeeping promised him "5 star service". I think it was more like 3 stars, similar to my rating of the Bristal as a whole. Most of the aides we interfaced with were lovely, caring and compassionate. There were a few who were not as effusive, but they still went about doing their job efficiently. Unfortunately, the humanity at the middle and upper management level eroded significantly during dads stay there. A couple of higher ranking staff, who were just wonderful people, Faraz Kayani and Suzanne Reuter, were promoted and moved to other Bristal facilities. Their replacements, while I am sure were very highly qualified on paper, lacked, in my opinion, certain other characteristics that should be required when working at a facility such as this. What also bothered me deeply was that when Suzanne, who was transferred much more recently, exited to the new Bristal (Armonk) there was no announcement about it to the residents or the family of the residents. Suzanne was a beloved figure by everyone who lived there, including my dad. Many people were upset that one day she was just not there any more. Also, as a child of a resident who was in constant communication with Suzanne, her unannounced departure was a massive gut punch. This lack of caring, not to mention basic business savvy, is a real shortcoming. When I confronted ownership, I was told that a few things were happening and an email would be sent out to cover all of them, including Suzannes leaving. This was NEVER done. The facility itself presents well. Nicely manicured campus, though on the inside the carpeting all over needs to be replaced. The rooms are nice, as is the dining room, library, and movie theater. it's a good place, and the pricing is in line with the location, level of care and overall facilities. go on the tour, and decide for yourself, but remember, you need to put in the work if you want your loved ones stay there to be a good one. set your expectations at medium to medium-high, and be prepared to be involved, and proactive. read more

When my mom moved across the country last spring , I researched assisted living facilities. Two friends gave high marks for two different Bristal locations . I called for an appointment for a tour in White Plains and was impressed with the physical facility, the amenities, and the impeccable grounds and maintenance . My mom moved in to the Bristal in the spring and she and I are so pleased with our choice . The professional staff is everything one could hope for ! Laureen , the community services manager is kind , insightful and a real professional . The staff is wonderful ---the front desk personnel are friendly and know all the residents and regular visitors. The staff who deal directly with the residents are compassionate and delightful . In short -- a well run place . There are special events and activities galore ! My mom loves her apartment- and is so happy there . We feel fortunate to have her call this home ! read more

My uncle lived here for a few months before we rescued him and moved him out. The basic medical care is horrible. We are lucky my uncle is still alive. Management only cares about making money and not about the resident. It is so sad how the the staff and management treat the residents. Do your loved one a favor and NOT allow them to live in this horrific setting. If only the State knew about all their violations. read more
