The Atria had a welcome sign on the door of his new apartment. Everyone welcomed him to the place, from the friendly receptionist to the social director and one of the managers. The people at the Atria are warm and smiling and ready to help. Our relative said the food was delicious and that we picked a great place! Jan Unger, the community sales director, went above and beyond to make sure our relative's first day there was a good one and helped us solve a big problem when a mattress we ordered failed to arrive. He arranged for an emergency mattress to be delivered for our relative to use until his permanent mattress came. The emergency mattress came within an hour of the conversation we had with Jan. Tabitha, the receptionist, was warm and happy to see us when we walked in the door. Christina, the engage life director, took time out of her busy day to help understand who our relative was and his needs. The facility has a resident ambassador who reached out to our family member and talked with him and invited him to sit at his table in the dining room. We are very impressed with the Atria Woodlands and would strongly recommend it to anyone who needs an assisted living residence.

I asked to look at the call logs as the head nurse claimed that he called for the nurse too much so they just ignored them. He actually only called when wet or thirsty. The nurses are supposed to answer within five minutes, yet when they finally let me see the call log (by law they have to) there were times where it took over a half hour to get to him. My Dad was a very proud and clean man so sitting like that made him horribly depressed. So, the Atria gives him meds and tries to make him a vegetable. I asked the nurses why it takes so long to help him, especially since we paid upward of $10,000 a month, and one nurse actually cried to me that they don't hire enough nurses to save money and they are always short staffed! One night we get a call that my dad slipped in the shower. Bizarre since he's supposed to be with a nurse and sitting since he was a fall risk. They claim that he undressed and went into the shower himself! Complete lie as there was physically no way he could have done that alone. Clearly they put him in the shower and left him to run to another room. He was lying naked and alone in the shower for who knows how long with broken ribs until someone went back in. Then we had to scramble to get him into rehab, and the Atria tells us he can't come back because he requires too much care-- but get this-- they charge us for the rest of the month, over $7000. Dad didn't make it, and even though everything was in his name, they're after us for the money after their negligence. Please be aware that positive reviews are from people who get paid to put your loved ones there.

The Country House first on the list. My wife and I were impressed as soon as we walked in the door. The place was immaculate. The staff was warm and welcoming. The rooms we were shown were perfectly adequate for my wife's simple needs. But just to make sure that we weren't missing out on an even better option we looked at two other facilities. They didn't come close the Country House. So we paid for 2 weeks care with the option of extending if needed. The bottom line is that my wife who vehemently resisted staying in assisted living felt immediately at ease and within a few days she was fully adjusted, made friends with other residents and, most surprisingly, she loved the food! The nurses were attentive to her needs and responded quickly when my wife presses the help button that she given to wear around her neck. With one minor glitch, they provided her 3 times a day with her medications. My wife has difficulty working her cell phone, so they help make calls. It turned out that I needed two additional weeks before I was ready to resume caring for her at home. She was such good hands that I never had to worry about her. That relief was priceless. It is without hesitation that I give The Country House a 5 star rating.

My wife, Mary spent the last five weeks of her Earthly life at this facility after dealing with…read moremetastatic breast cancer for seven years. The women who hadn't yet taken their final vows, the CNA's took care of my wife with love and respect. They WERE doing God's work. The housekeeping staff, the activity directors and all the volunteers as well. The nurses, not as well but reasonably professional. The administration - Not so much! When my wife expressed a concern she had for her safety I followed the procedure and went to the nurse on duty. NO was her answer. Nothing like this happens. I went to Sister Damien's admissions receptionist, Joann. I heard from her, "DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO?!" Sister Damien told me brusquely everything is fine and my wife was drugged, dreaming or otherwise creating something out of nothing. Sister Stella, the main administrator, listened to what I had to say and did her best to put me off. Not one of these expressed and wish to speak with my wife and I felt that there was NO empathy shown and perhaps little respect. I only saw what appeared to be closing ranks and loyalty to the order (Cult?). The receptionist I can forgive because I know she's a recent convert to the Catholic faith and I have seen that this creates a certain over zealousness in the time after confirmation. The lack of respect and/or empathy by the sisters I find reprehensible though. Another issue was that the nurses would not allow my wife to leave the bed, instead telling her to defecate in place. and they could clean it afterward. They claimed this was a matter of the Foley catheter and that she was a fall risk. I had been my wife's caregiver for several months and was able to get her properly to the toilet. My feeling was that was contrary to the idea of death with dignity. Please understand that this is my opinion based upon my recollection of the events that took place more than three months ago, but I am quite sure I have accurately described the events.
