Eight of our ROMEO club were here for lunch today. We were all enthused about going here and looking forward to ordering the fish and chips. They opened at 11:00 and we walked in at 11:01, anxious to get our fish! The waitress was great and set us up quickly at a table and took our drink orders and brought us Guiness and teas. She heard all the chatter about the Fish N Chips and the next thing she said is "We don't have any beer batter yet, so no Fish N Chips! Immediately there were groans and moans. We had our beer and had come here specifically for the Fish N. Chips. She went back to check and returned saying "Yep, no beer batter so no Fish N Chips". Several of us joked that we may as well drink our beer and go next door to the Mongolian Yummy Stir fry place. We now started browsing for other menu items that we wanted. After about five minutes she came back out and said they could make up some batter but didn't know how long it would take. (How long does it take to stir up beer batter?). We said we'd wait. In the meantime two of our guys placed orders for the Scottish Eggs and Onion Rings for the table. They were both excellent. Three of us ordered the Fish N Chips and two had decided to go with the Bangers and Mash. One order for the Beef Eater sandwich, one Club Sandwich and one Rueben Sandwich. The food came out and the fish n chips were great. Not greasy, crispy, large haddock slice with great french fries. and green peas (which were barely luke ward, almost cold). The two guys with the Bangers and Mash loved it..Great sausage and the potatoes were excellent with mustard. The Rueben was great and also the Beef Eater. The waitress did a great job, checking on us throughout lunch. All in all, what started out as a questionable lunch turned into another fine lunch for the ROMEO group. The rating was 9.18 on the ROMEO scale...5.0 on Yelp scale. Only issue was something was wrong with the tea. It almost looked like water. The British Bulldog was really cool! Even though I had lofty expectations, it definitely managed to live up to them! When the British Bulldog calls itself a "pub", I feel like it's one of the very few places that takes that moniker to heart. Even though it's located in somewhat of a strip-mall setting, once you walk inside the building, you're amazed by the authenticity of the inside. Personally, I loved the brick and wood that made up the interior, which gave the restaurant the realistic "pub" vibe that I mentioned earlier. Furthermore, I loved the framed, and hanging, soccer flags, which was a marked contrast to the professional and college sports paraphernalia at your typical American sports bar. I walked in kind of late, and just sat at the bar, which still made for a great experience. Even though it's an English restaurant, they still had a lot of the popular local and domestic beers, to go along with the more English-themed beverages. I asked if they had any "sours", and the bartender was kind enough to offer me a sample of the two (2) sours that they had on tap, and let me choose the one I liked the most. The aforementioned bartender was great, and I overheard him offering some folks from out-of-town with recommendations for nearby late-night spots and high-quality local joints. Finally, my simple order of chicken tenders and fries was pretty good, and I thoroughly enjoyed their steak-cut "chips," or French Fries. All-in-all, I waited too long to try out the British Bulldog, which was a great pub experience that definitely lived up to my high expectations. Our server was amazing. We ran into the owner restocking the beer. That's enough for me to give this place 5 stars. Anytime I see an owner working in the business I tip my hat. My husband is Scottish and I'm welsh so we definitely come for the food. It's all good! I've had the baked Brie, the cabbage, the sampler, fish and chips, and the pasty. They greet you at the door to seat you, I sat at the bar and the bartender was very nice. He gave recommendations on beverages I had the Maine IPA and my wife had the not your fathers root beer. Both were very good. The pub was very European with soccer scarfs on the wall and tvs playing soccer. For starters we had the bulldog sampler which had a nice variety of items that you could buy individually. So you get to try everything which is nice. The fish and chips were official the tarter was very good and added great flavor to an already nicely seasoned haddock. The chips were thick cut and fried to perfection. Prices are exorbitant for pub food. Had the fish and chips. For $20 you get a single piece of fried Cod about 5 inches and a bunch of steak fries. The chip shop home made chips came out to about a $1 per potato chip. Don't waste your money, the food is just mediocre and the prices were crazy high. read more

This was one of my favorite places but it's gone downhill. It seems every time I visit, something is missing. Today there was no Kilkenny, no Scotch Eggs, no Bulldog Sampler, and the Magner's cider was flat. When I alerted my waitress, I even had the chance to watch the bartender give her a nasty attitude and deny it, even when my waitress poured it in front of the bartender. The food is good but they are militant about getting extra sauce or trading out a dressing that is unliked. I think the salad was pretty skimpy. The chicken was room temperature. My food was terrible. The chili nachos and they were out of chili?? At opening of business? Told the server it was terrible, he said, "seems like it". $13.50 for a plate of nachos with sour cream and more jalapeños then I have ever seen on any kind of food??? Such a fun environment. We came for dinner Christmas night with a friend after our family dinner out of town got cancelled. I was so happy there was a place we could go for a good meal! Everything we ordered was great, the entrees were a bit lukewarm but honestly they were pretty busy. Back in here to watch the footy - England vs Slovenia. Few pints of London Pride. Bar lady was spot on and actually was very aware when we needed more drinks and food, not the norm in the past. My American friend ordered the Irish egg rolls and really enjoyed them. I had the curried chicken pie and it was delicious. Been here a couple of times lately for the footy and not sure if there is a new chef but the food seems to be a lot better than previous experiences. I ordered the chicken pasty with leek, which I have ordered many times. This time the outer crust was nice and crisp. Just under the crisp was raw dough. The raw dough seeped in the inner ingredients. I told the waitress and she said sorry and took the dish away. Nothing else but the full bill. This was bad customer service. I was running errands while in Columbia with friends during BanzaiCon and tried thus place out. The young lady named Sarah was cool and polite and helped answer any questions I had about what to choose. I chose the Pub Burger and the Bread and Butter Pudding and I wanted to say personally it was AWESOME!! The Bread and Butter Pudding was big and it had chocolate chips on and inside so that made it even better and the Pub Burger was exactly . We are visiting family and they took us to this outstanding British themed restaurant. The steak and ale pie served with mash, gravy and mushy peas are so good. Almost as good as i remember having in England. I would also recommend the Irish Eggrolls, excellent Irish twist on Rueben eggrolls . Our server was Amy which is new to this restaurant and her service was over the top!! She is very accommodating and friendly. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. The food, atmosphere and the service was definitely 5 star. The cost of the food and portion size is what removed a star. Our waitress was amazing! Kind, helpful and attentive. I ordered the fish and chips large portion and the husband ordered the curry extra hot. Large fish and chips were $19.95. Described as" A British tradition: Haddock (a Royal favorite) hand battered and fried golden brown. Served with freshcut English chips, a grilled lemon and a side of housemade tartar sauce." I received one strip of fish that was hand battered w steak fries. There were what appeared to be fried spring onion ( might be wrong ) and they served no purpose except to express this was an elevated fish. It wasn't. It was good but nothing fancy. It was plated in a high end way. I expected a more beer battered, crispy exterior w maybe 2 good sized fillets as a large portion. Tartar was passable. The Curry was extra hot and no plating flair. It's a pub so I get it. It was $16.95 though. Plopped on a bit of rice w 3 broccoli heads as the vegetables. It was def spicy and delicious. The texture turned him off. We boxed it up for later. Hoping we could doctor it up and coax its excellence out of it. I had a red draft that was delicious. The bill with tip turned out to be $65. There was an added on cc fee and a $1.99 up charge on the fries on my dish that no one explained to me. This was too rich for my blood for what got. I'd have been satisfied for $12.95 with the fish, curry plated better w smaller portion for $13.95, beer $4. Nix the extra fries fee ( extra cost for large fries?). Loose the card processing fee. That's $5 right there added w $7 and $3 I'd have seen $15 reduction. I'm coming back to try other stuff and hope I find a happy medium. Bout $35-$40 for a down to earth meal for two. read more

We go to the pub a few times per year. The service today was average--the waitress told us the kitchen was backed up and would be awhile for our food to come--we told her we haven't ordered yet and were ready. As usual, the food servings are plentiful. I ordered the Haddock fish sandwich with chips. The crust was dark fried and the fish was soggy and slightly warm (at best) on the inside. The chips were steak fries. I had to work at finishing the meal. Maybe the fryer was dirty or at the wrong temperature. My wife ordered the King of Clubs. It had enough meat to feed three people and the bread was toasted to perfection. This was her regular order as she always enjoys it. That is the sandwich to order here. We had margaritas on the rocks. They were tart and came in a large glass. They don't keep any condiments at the table. The restrooms smelled as if they are not regularly cleaned with dim lighting. Although I didn't enjoy my meal, we'll give it another try down the road. We think the waitress was new and will season up. For the serving size, the prices seem acceptable. read more

Slow service, mediocre food, and a surprise at the end. Party of four seated at 12:45. Restaurant was busy, but not crazy. Drinks (three waters and a sweet tea) came quickly, but it went downhill from there. After perusing the menu and deciding on appetizers and entrees, we waited another 15 minutes before asking another server to tell our server we were ready to order. When she finally could be bothered, we ordered pimento cheese dip and scotch eggs along with our four entrees. Then we waited. We waited while other tables were seated, and orders were taken. We waited while other table's drinks were served and recently ordered appetizers arrived. We waited while our server worked other tables and never came by to explain what was going on while other tables seated after us started receiving entrees. An hour after we were seated, our appetizers arrived, two cold, over-fried scotch eggs and a pimento cheese dip that had been sitting in the bowl long enough to form a skin. The "chips" that came with the dip were cold and oily. We were hungry, so we championed through, hoping the entrees were better. Spoiler alert: they weren't. I ordered corned beef and cabbage over mustard mashed potatoes. I've never seen corned beef shredded like pot roast before, but what was truly off-putting was the sweet cabbage. I'm not sure how one makes sweet cabbage, but it has been accomplished. The gravy, enough of it to drown a small child in, was of a quality that Heinz makes and puts in jars for discount grocers. The mashed potatoes I could salvage from underneath the flood of flavored gravy-goo were okay, but nothing to write home about and the mustard part way DIY as the mustard came on the side. More on that in a moment. Also ordered was a steak and mushroom pie and (British) chips. Upon arrival, it was clear that the the fries were greasy and cold. The pie was tepid. The side of gravy had skinned over as well, so that was sent back. At $17.95, calling this dish disappointing is an understatement. Bangers and mash were okay, room temperature, but okay. The fourth entree was a turkey sandwich with fries. I can't offer any feedback on that because the friend who ate it has the palette of a twelve year old. He seemed happy, but that may have been the after effects of boys' weekend at Myrtle Beach. Almost ninety minutes after we were seated, the bills were dropped and that's when my biscuits were burned. Notwithstanding the fact that the appetizers SHOULD have been comped after the poor experience, the server had the audacity to charge me a dollar for a small ramekin of mustard. Like the mustard, I was hot. Although I wanted to, I didn't say anything. Once we asked for the checked, the server apologized (seemingly hollowly) a couple of times for the "shenanigans in the kitchen," but it was over, much like my potential ever returning to The British Bulldog Pub. read more

I was excited to try the British Bulldog Pub since we saw the food and were excited to try. We got the Thai Chili Haddock Bites as an appetizer which was good and had a nice flavor. My wife ordered the Beef and Cheddar Pasty, which was decent. I ordered the three cheese bacon burger. I asked for it medium, we received our food and I noticed there were some lighter shades of pink but just cut the burger in half and started nibbling on the side that looked well done even though I ordered medium. After a few mins, we realized the other half of the burger was extremely raw. I put my hand in the burger and it just unraveled raw. Not just undercooked but RAW. There were more raw than actually cooked meat. We notified the waitress and she was so nice about having the kitchen try again. At that point, I just asked for a refund on the meal as I lost my appetite. They did refund and the waitress expressed how sorry she was however I expected to see a manager with that type of error from the kitchen. I won't return. read more

My wife, son, and I were in the Columbia area researching to buy a home sometime next year. We found the Bulldog and decided to give it a try. I love a traditional British or Irish Pub. It was a great choice. It had the atmosphere I was hoping for and the staff went out of their to welcome us and make recommendations from the food and beer menu. I am a Rueben snob, but on the bartender's recommendation I tried it. It was one the best I have ever had. Perfectly done. My son had the Buffalo Crunch Wrap which he devoured, my wife had the Chicken Bacon Leek Pasty which she said was spectacular! We finished with the bread pudding which we shared since it was huge! If we are back in the area and/or retire nearby this will be on of our regular hangouts for sure!!!! read more

I ordered the loaded fries and 10 of the jumbo wings. The wings were cooked all the way through just like I asked them to be. We also got the Rolls with baked in sausage. My girlfriend liked them. Overall I will recommend this place for people to come. This was my second time going and I try something new this time. So far I have not had a bad meal or experience.
