I had the special steamed clams, which were cooked just right but in a Guinness (I think) broth that wasn't really the right flavor for clams. The waitress recommended the sweet-potato fries over the regular fries--I had one, my brother had the other and both were very tasty and not greasy. He enjoyed his generous portion of fish and chips. I come up to visit family regularly and plan to come back with my husband. Staying over at the Landing Hotel with meh options to eat. Looked on Yelp to see that Katie's is like 1/2 a mile away. Beautifully decorated inside and out, all decked out for Christmas. We walked in and it wasn't busy at all. We were seated in the dining room and all the tvs had football on. Cute little lights on the tables lend to the ambiance. Our waitress took our order. I'm in an Irish pub so I HAVE TO get fish and chips and so happy that I did. 2 huge fish strips served over hot French fries. Did not disappoint! My husband had a cheeseburger. Do Better Katie's! My family went to Katie's for at least the 10th time this past year. We live close by, and they have a reliable staple of menu items--we've tried most of them.We were seated immediately. There were at least 4-5 open tables; the dining room was active but not overly jammed or elbow-to-elbow. There appeared to be three servers and a host working. Once seated, we were not approached by a server for over 10 minutes. When our server finally came over 15 minutes into our visit, she suggested placing our drink and dinner orders at the same time. We ordered two tap beers, a seltzer water, two salads, a chicken wrap, buffalo cauliflower, and the clams.Then we waited... and waited. Finally, after another 20 minutes, our drink order arrived. It took a staggering 35 minutes from arrival just to get our drinks. Keep in mind, I was facing a clock on the wall in the main dining room, so this isn't an imaginary wait time.The buffalo cauliflower arrived another 20 minutes later. Dinner--along with the clams--finally arrived 15 to 20 minutes after that. The food was fine and up to its normal standards, except for the clams. Three of them never opened, and I'm wondering why they were served to me at all. It was disappointing to say the least, and I won't order that menu option here again. $130 with a tip. I had an amazing lunch with one of my friends! I suggested Katie's because it's a place I hadn't been to in quite a few years. The inside was beautifully decorated with all sorts of lights and Christmas trees. We were greeted and seated immediately. Within a minute the waitress asked for the drink order. We ordered the pretzel appetizer which included 4 stick pretzels which I thought were the best I've ever had in this area. I decided on the fried haddock sandwich with fries. A less than stellar beginning had a delicious ending. Having driven past this business hundreds of times over the years we always wondered what it was like. We finally decided to check it out on our way to testing our luck up the street. We were promptly seated shortly after 6 pm on a Sunday. It was very noisy. Make that VERY NOISY! Between the DJ & music piped in, customers cheering for their favorite football or baseball team, one Miami Dolphins fan in particular, and a very high pitched clanking sound that I likened to silverware constantly being shuffled but my wife thought was akin to a blown speaker, I was forced to adjust my hearing aids to filter out both high and medium frequencies. My wife wasn't so lucky since she doesn't wear hearing aids. If that wasn't annoying enough, we found ourselves sitting an inordinate amount of time with the menus the hostess left us with, but no service. My wife finally flagged down a server who approached one of the two tables behind us. She said she would check to see who was assigned to our table. A different server (supervisor?) returned to say that no one had been assigned to our table and hoped that we hadn't been waiting too long. We let her know that we HAD been waiting a long time. She then took our order. Our pints of Harp and Smithwicks ($7.50 each) came out promptly. Both were enjoyed as neither had been available to us at other restaurants in quite a few years. My wife's Irish Reuben ($16.49) was delicious with the house-made corned beef. It was topped with Russian dressing, braised cabbage, and Swiss cheese, and served on very tasty thick slices of grilled rye bread. My Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16.49) was equally tasty with tender, house-made roast pork, BBQ sauce, and topped with coleslaw. The grilled Brioche roll was fresh and held up well to the plentiful amount of pork. My wife's French fries were average, but better than the Tater Tots that I chose to have as my side. Both sandwiches saved the evening. But our server also surprised us by letting us know that she had taken $10 off our bill due to the mix up when we were seated. Katie O'Byrnes has long been a place I take visiting family in the cold winter months, when on the hunt for warm comforting food and a cozy, bustling-neighborhood bar atmosphere. The portions are always impressive [the size of the fish fry especially seems to give surprise-cartoon-like eyes to the table] and the Shepherds Pie, Corned Beef & Cabbage, and Reuben have all been hits with our guests who can't pass up the Irish-American specialties in a setting such as Katie's. Late this summer, after being reminded of how great the outdoor space is during the Schenectady Tater Trot earlier in the season, we stopped by for beers on the patio and found ourselves impressed, declaring Katie's another great location for outdoor happy hours with friends. Being next to the Schenectady Amtrak station and near the corner of Erie and State makes an ideal spot for taking in the sounds and sights of downtown Schenectady. I LOVE that Katie's hosts live music, both inside and out depending on the season, and have enjoyed a variety of genres and styles from various musicians during my visits over the years. You can also find weekly Trivia on Tuesdays at 7:30, paired with a taco special. The service has always been welcoming, with staff offering recommendations and friendly-banter with our tables and while ordering at the bar. Solid spot in Schenectady, right near the train station. I have been there twice and I ordered the same thing each time: The apple pecan salad with chicken. The salad tastes fresh and I enjoy the sweet pecans. The chicken was tasty. Husband ordered Turkey burger with sweet potato fries and said it was excellent. It was not crowded in a Saturday afternoon, but on my previous visit on a Friday night it was pretty busy. Service was polite. Based on one visit (first time back in a few years) and it's the Chicken 'n Biscuits Special that earned the Five Stars! What a deal for $14.99. This dish was not an example of pub food; it was an example of good food that tastes as if it was made at home by an experienced cook. It was perfect comfort food on a rainy, cool fall late afternoon. There are 16 beers on tap, and my husband stuck with his go to draft --the Sam Adams Seasonal. We both ordered the Chicken 'n Biscuits. My husband asked for a spoon to enjoy the gravy which was flavorful, and was seasoned perfectly with a light amount of salt. He ate everything. I was concerned he was going to lick the plate. The chicken was tender and moist, definitely not over cooked. The Biscuits were outstanding! They were the "star" of the meal. They deserve a 10 Star rating if it existed. Crisp on the outside and melt in your mouth moist crumb on the inside. Soft inside to absorb the gravy. We have had biscuits that were the consistency of hockey pucks in other restaurants serving Chicken 'n Biscuits. Lakeside Farms is one example of a place that serves unappetizing hard biscuits. Service was attentive and pleasant. A man asked us about the special. We gave it a thumbs up. Soon after, I observed two bowls of it being served to their table. Every mid-March, Katie O'Byrne's host a Jamesons Whiskey tasting and pairing event. This year's was Thu 3/10/22. It's a four course meal (app, soup/salad, entree, & dessert) and course paired samples of different Jamesons Irish whiskeys. This year we were introduced to an interesting orange flavored Jamesons. And various entertainment & drawings. This event regularly has 100+ guests. A very sumptuous feast including reuben egg rolls, tossed salad, perfectly cooked steak w/ whipped potatoes & vegetable medley, and a chocolate cake topped w/ raspberries and whiskey cream. We have been patronizing Katie O'Byrnes since the day they opened their doors almost twenty years ago. We have never had a bad meal whether it was dine-in or takeout. The food and service are simply the best around. My wife absolutely loves their 'Katie's Nachos' with corn beef to the point she actually craves this dish. I on the other hand my all-time favorite is their 'Cheese Burger Club' and of course their 'Katie's chicken wings' for a starter! However, tonight we decided to celebrate New Year's by dining in at Katie's. My wife and I were looking forward to their Prime Rib and ordered off their New Years Dinner menu. We started off by ordering a Shrimp Cocktail (4) $12.99 to share. We then decided we would both order the same entrée - Prime Rib Dinner w/ a 6oz Lobster Tail for only $34.99. I ordered my Prime Rib medium-rare and she went with medium-well done - which I will never understand why anyone would order past medium on such a beautiful cut of beef. But after 43yrs of marriage there are some issues better left alone. We were glad we shared the Shrimp Cocktail because the shrimp were huge. This appetizer was served on a bed of lettuce filled with cocktail sauce and superbly presented in a martini glass. We found it was a delicious, visually appealing way to start our meal, like you would expect in a fine restaurant. Our Prime Rib and Lobster Dinner was brought to the table hot. We were immediately impressed with the ample cut of beef, cooked as ordered with a large mound of mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables (steamed broccoli, cauliflower & carrots). Simply put, our meals exceeded our expectations. Our dinner was well presented, served in a timely, and had large portions (left with two doggie bags). If that wasn't enough for any couple looking for a great meal on a night out, our appetizer/meals were priced below local competitors and we go out often in our area. In these economic times pricing matters, period! As for Katie's staff, from the point we were greeted/seated and then throughout our meal, the hostess and waitress were attentive, courteous and friendly. Our waitress was very helpful in explaining the dinner specials being offered tonight. Even the young man who bussed our table was extremely respectful. Every staff member up to and including two owners wished us a Happy New Year and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our experience at Katie's. Our Happy New Year Dinner was a delight for us, however as I started this comment we have never had a bad meal at Katie's. The only difference this time, we had to thank everyone at Katie O'Byrnes for helping us ring in 2024 with a fantastic meal while we recognize a very special place where friends come together in a very special place in our city! read more

We arrived early, so there was ample parking and seating. It was somewhat noisy, but by the time we left (around 7pm), it was EXTREMELY noisy (and very busy). Service was OK; some lapses here and there and she did her best to try and be friendly. Still gave her a good tip. In my opinion, the food is mediocre. Four of us shared the boneless wings and each ordered an entree. The wings were like chicken nuggets - not served with sauce on them (but we did ask for them with medium spice and hot sauce on the side....for those of us that prefer to blister the inside of our faces with our foodstuffs). For me, the blue cheese dressing was the winner - huge chunks of blue cheese and solid flavor. Hot sauce was semi-hot; I'd get the extra hot on the side next time. I had a salad with grilled chicken; it was fine. Chicken was a little dry but the honey mustard dressing moistened it up a bit. Others at the table had shepard's pie, fried haddock sandwich and corned beef with cabbage. These were large portions and mostly received thumbs up. We stopped in to grab some food before a show and it was my first time here. I have always heard good things about it so we decided to go! First off I love all the Irish decor and the overall vibe of the restaurant. It has a pub feel but at the same time is a really nice restaurant with plenty of seating, huge windows and an outdoor dining area. The service was great for how busy it was in there, I think everyone there was going to the show too. The food was excellent! I ordered a chicken Caesar wrap and the chicken was delicious and the fries were probably the best fries I ever had! My mom ordered a burger and she said it was great too!
