We were looking for an open restaurant on a Monday and found Northern Barrell. It reminded me of Cheers, where everybody knows your name. Well, they didn't know our name but it didn't matter. Our waitress was very pleasant and checked on us numerous times. If we ate red meat, the deal of the year is on Monday - burger and fries for $3.50. If only they had turkey burgers - but sadly they don't. Anyway, what we had was very good. My wife had a black bean burger and myself and our friend had the asian salad with chicken. The folks next to us were playing board games while they ate and they had many games to choose from. The bar was active with a very friendly crowd. All in all, this is a very nice place. Again, being open on a Monday is a very smart move because the business is there for the taking and they take it and take it well. read more

Awesome spot not far from downtown Voorheesville. Great priced food & drinks. Multiple TVs on the wall, large draught selection with a very attentive & pleasant staff. Northern Barrell - Old Fashioned with the NB specialty ice cube - American Near Me - Voorheesville, New York

After a walk on the local rail trail I took a peek and noticed that northern barrell was there in Google maps but didn't think a lot of it because in the past when I had checked on a Monday they were closed, but this time I looked on their website and got wide eyed with delight. They are now open on Mondays and my girlfriend and I could finally go there! My day off is Monday. We stopped in and discovered that they have a three dollar and 50 Cent Monday burger special which comes with tomato onion and lettuce, the burger came out medium rare and had a delicious seasoned flavor in the meat. We also got a basket of fries that we were munching on voraciously, so crispy fluffy and juicy and nicely salted. They have an interesting beer selection as well so it was easy to choose something. The bartender didn't miss a beat there was rarely an empty glass and she was vivacious and friendly. Locals started piling in and people seemed happy and talkative at the bar. This will definitely be a Monday stop for us again soon. On a sidenote does Voorheesville have a special parade day for Friday the 13th with a giant Jason float? read more

This place is awesome. Built in 2021 definitely some great new restaurant vibes in addition everything is very clean here. I'm not a beer snob so I appreciate them having some classic on tap like Coors and Guinness. There other beer selections are good too. Great watermelon margarita. The food was the best part. I had the ribs which were definitely home made and very tasty. Carolina vs Memphis bbq sauce. Cornbread is superb a little spicy for me with the jalapeño in it. read more

I stopped by Northern Barrell in Voorheesville for lunch over the weekend. Since it was a bright sunny day, the garage doors were open for open air covered dining and drinking. The covered space has a full bar, high top tables, regular tables, and a fireplace in the corner. The bar has seating, flatscreen TVs, 12 craft beers on tap, bottle beers, wine, and cocktails. There is also outside patio tables with umbrellas on the side of the building.  I was seated at a high top table as requested. The food menu offers a variety of pub fare including appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, fries, salads, mac & cheese, and a little buddies menu. I ordered a Bacon Jam Burger ($15.99 plus tax) with choice of side and Veggie Mac & Cheese ($13.99 plus tax).  My food came out in 12 minutes, but they gave me a side of field greens salad instead of the sweet potato fries specified. The staff went back to the kitchen and brought me a full side of fresh hot sweet potato waffle fries covered in brown sugar, but they added the $4.99 plus tax for the sweet potato waffle fries, which was slightly bigger than as just a side (add $0.75 plus tax) with a burger/sandwich. The bacon jam burger was very thick which had housemate bacon jam on top of a thick slice of breaded fried mozzarella, arugula, mayo, thick ground beef patty on a toasted brioche bun. The mega veggie mac was served in a hot skillet which had firm cavatappi pasta in a white cheese sauce (not thick), topped with bread crumbs, peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach. There was enough food I ordered for two good meals and I requested boxes to bring home much of the food for dinner later on. The check with tax and before tip was $37.77. Overall, the food I had tasted pretty good and was very filling and heavy. Northern Barrell is a great chill place for food and drinks, away from the busy commercial strips. read more

This place has great atmosphere, is cozy, and friendly staff. I want to love this place. When it opened two years ago, we were excited. "Finally!" a local place with "12 rotating taps" and a nice pub menu with some healthy options. Well, the fact of the matter is they haven't been able to keep the food service going. They just lost their kitchen staff/chef/sub contractor for the third time. And as far as rotating taps, they have had 10 of the 12 beers on for a year. They have got to do better. I want a local place in the neighborhood that I can frequent. When it first opened, we were going about once a month/every other month. We haven't been back since the fall. And yes, they have very loyal clientele that will throw a brick through my front window if they find out who I am. But loyalty is a two-way street. If Northern Barrel wants my return business, they have got to do better. read more

Wow! Everything is totally handmade! We tried the mozzarella wedges and fried pickles to start off. Delicious! Then the blackened chicken salad, Grown Up Grilled Cheese, and Big Buddy Chicken Strips. We went this past Friday at 7 pm. I expected to find a 40 minute wait but it wasn't so bad. We sat down at the bar and were halfway through our tasty beverages when the hostess said she had a table ready. We went outside to the lovely patio area. The place was full but the staff was on top of things. The space itself is attractive and airy. The location is kind of unlikely but worth the hunt. I ordered a bacon jam burger. It was tasty. I guess I did not read the menu close enough so I was not expecting a huge fried Mozzarella square on the burger. It makes for an enormous burger that was more than I could handle. I managed to finish about half of it and boxed the rest. My dining companion enjoyed a panini. If you're looking for a burger and a beer, or just a drink and app, give Northern Barrell a try. (There are more things on the menu but I can't speak about those.) I know we will be back. read more

The food was excellent! The drinks were tasty! The patio was great for the kids and relaxing for us! We got the shark bites, French onion soup that has chucks of brisket in it I think! It was Father's Day and my husband hit the prime rib dinner which was huge! With garlic and rosemary mashed potatoes whole chunks of garlic YUM! I had the brisket bbq pile! Omg it had pan seared salt potatoes, cheese, homemade bbq sauce and Melt in your mouth brisket. There where 2 different kinds of sauce on the table and both were delicious! Atmosphere was great! Interesting. Decent food, but won't be back. It's funny how just one small thing can ruin you wanting to go back. The food was good, but a bit on the expensive side. The kicker was getting a soda and ice tea, having the cup filled with ice and then paying for refills. Who charges for refills of soda these days? Anyway, there are so many places that have food, no reason to go back someplace that nickels and dimes you as the other places don't. read more

Fine. That's about all I can say about NB. The outside area is cute with different colored umbrellas and multicolored chairs and tables, string lights, and outdoor bar. The inside is well decorated as well (for a bar-like atmosphere), but it kinda ends there. Service was ok, not great, but ok. The food......eh. We wanted to try the meatball appetizer, but never got the chance, because our server forgot. Ended up with two sandwiches and a salad (party of 3). The sandwiches were just ok. Grilled chicken (not actually grilled) with bacon, cheese, some sort of sauce on brioche. Edible, but not anything to write home about. The fries were awful. Seemed like they were from the bottom of the barrel; way too salty and a random mix of shapes/sizes. The salad did not look like anything special. My friend enjoyed it, but same review....she wasn't wowed by any means. The 12.00 martini was decent, but not worth 12.00 (what drink is?!). All said and done, I may give it another try, as it's pretty new, but things would need to be significantly better for me to give more than 2 stars. read more

We stopped here after a long bike ride on the rail trail. It is located right off the trail in Voorheesville. The food is delicious! We had Rita's mac&cheese and the chicken strips. I really like this place. I've been twice. On the first visit, I sat with a friend outside and we had pork belly tacos and beer. On the second visit, I came with a group. Unfortunately, it was a Wednesday night and it was also trivia night. While we wanted to sit inside, we couldn't because tables were reserved. Nevertheless we sat outside. The drawback to sitting outside this particular day was that we had to order from the bar. We were told that we couldn't get table service. As for the food, it's quite good. We ordered tacos, chicken sandwich and bacon burger. The pork belly is cooked really crispy. I got the chicken sandwich on a brioche bun. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned. I was worried that the bun and chicken would be too much, but it wasn't. I also ordered a side of sweet potato fries. They are waffle fries and really good. The ambience is also cute. We almost got turned off by the (lack of) service, but I overlooked it because of the food. That's the reason for the 5 stars. read more

Not sure what the deal is here. Stopped by to get dinner place wasn't real busy. Took forever to get any service. They seemed annoyed we didn't order alcohol. While waiting for our drinks what I assumed was a kitchen employee came out and threw a hissy fit about taking more food orders. How do you run a restaurant with a cook who doesn't want to cook. Our drinks came and we weren't quite ready to order and the server again seemed annoyed. Not sure how long we waited for our server to come back but we ended up leaving $10 on the table for two soft drinks and left. Won't be back read more

I keep going back to give it another try, wanting it to be great, and each time I'm disappointed. First time we went, it was a beautiful, blue bird, 80 degree evening and they wouldn't serve us food outside on their patio. Then, next time, we went to sit on the patio, but the tables were only for food customers and we were just getting drinks - we were told we had to sit at one high table while three lower tables around us sat completely empty. This last time, we finally got to sit outside to eat - but our food portions were about 1/3 what they were the first time we went! And prices were up. Drinks and food are way more expensive than they should be for what you get. Their service is mediocre at best, and they started out with too many rules. Food is good - don't get me wrong, but you will not leave there feeling full. read more
