Freaking love this place. It's in the old Yellow Hook on the corner of 70th and 3rd. They make wood oven pizza which smell delicious. My bf and I stopped in for some after-dinner drinks. We sat at the bar and I must say the ambience inside is so romantic! It's dimly lit and as we sat at the bar, we could hear the faint sound of jazz in the background. It turns out they have live jazz on Saturday nights in the back room! It only added to the already awesome ambience. I can definitely say with confidence that Firefly is our official new date spot. Went for lunch on 2-25-17 place is located on the corner of the block and can easily be passed if driving by as it had no major sign to be seen in the main avenue.. place seems like a regular bar upon entering as the seating is more towards the center expanding to the back of the place.. we were seated in the middle area looked over the menu which has some artwork and easily broken down by food types as the menu was single sided place was dimly lit but plenty of candles lighting up the place tables also have its own mini jukebox.. we decided to share an appetizer which were labeled as fries but when served look more like home style fries than traditional French fries but they tasted great after we had "the shrooms" pie which was a white pie with mushroom fontina cheese and truffle oil which was also very tasty thin crush crispy not burnt and not heavy where you feel you need to be wheeled out of the place afterwards and is the perfect size to share with 2-3 people afterwards we had dessert which was the tartufo which was a fairly large portion I'd recommend sharing it and the Shirley temple float both very good the bill for all of this was under $50 service was great will go back again read more

We love The Fly. It may now be the best pizza in the neighborhood if not all of Bay Ridge. The arancini are excellent like just about everything on the menu. We look forward to trying all the pizzas on the menu. As for dessert, I've only had the rock n' rolla, their version of a classic apple tart, and it was very nice. But just about everything we've tried on the menu so far tastes very fresh with good quality ingredients. The music is good and the vibe is comfortable and friendly. I'd be willing to wait in line for a table if it meant that this place would thrive in this spot. The neighborhood needs it. read more

Living in Bay Ridge, you would think that there would be a lot of great pizza. If that's the case, why is Patty's opening next to Nonnos?!? If you're from Brooklyn or the boroughs, you probably have your favorite place. Do you want to eat in a Formica pizzeria with decor from the 70's? That's where Brooklyn Firefly adds value. Nice decor, good food. The pizza is crisp with flavor. They have a nice bar with an excellent beer selection. The live music is refreshing. Let me start off by saying that I tried to write this review under by business account but it wouldn't let me. I am the co-owner of Shelskys of Brooklyn. Came here with two of my friends on Saturday at the request of one of my friends to see what it was all about and have a few drinks and eat a pie. I really didn't like yellow hook for a couple of reasons that aren't worth getting into. We walk in and immediately i was impressed by the decor. classy, warm feeling throughout. They had a live jazz band playing that night which is a nice different touch than what I have come accustomed to in Bay Ridge. We sat down at the bar and were greeted right away by a very nice bartender. We ordered our drinks and they were made perfectly! After a couple of drinks we decided to order. Ordered a basic pie and rice ball and meatball. Pie came out first and I have to say it looked amazing! but looks arent everything and well there are some pretty good pizza places in the Ridge so taste was gonna be everything. Picked up a slice and the crust was spectacular!! Thin, crispy, just the right amount of dark goodness going on, but once I put into my mouth it was like heaven! Without a doubt one of the best slices Ive had the opportunity to bite into. My friends and I quickly downed the whole pie and without skipping a beat the riceball and meatball came out. Riceball was seasoned perfectly, moist and flavorful. The meatball though stole the show as far as the "Balls" go. Fried like my mother does, big and juicy with that fantastic sauce that they have! Simply outstanding! Was so impressed that i had to take my family there the next night! Upon walking in we were greeted by one of the owners Ray, he remembered me from last night which, as a business owner myself i found extremely impressive. Greeted my 2 year old and sat us down. Ray came over to our table with a small pizza box with some crayons and stickers for my little one to play with. The meal once again did not disappoint. Classy place, classy service, classy owner! I'm writing an update now that The Firefly is actually open. Great atmosphere, not hipster, not sportsbar, just a nice neighborhood place where the family can go and have dinner and drinks. Great craft beer selection alongside regular domestic choices & fun cocktails. The staff were super friendly and attentive, they had on nice quiet background music. The kids loved it as well. They were given to go pizza boxes with markers and stickers and they were engaged the entire time with decorating them. The rice ball and the meatball apps were good, and the pizza was excellent. Nice crispy this crust with a flavorful outer crust you actually want to eat. We're going to be regulars here if they keep up the good work. read more

My only complaint (and I was shocked to see the take out order) was that they charged 12 dollars for just one meat ball - in hind sight I should have asked (I probably would not have ordered the take out order). I've been here twice with my family. Both times the service and food has been exceptional. Both times we've had the Lords of Brooklyn pie which is amazing, and we've tried both salads, which are fresh and tasty. Tonight, after I left, I realized we'd accidentally been overcharged, so I called and Donna, the manager, spent 7 minutes on the phone with me on a very busy Saturday night making sure everything was rectified. It's obvious that the folks who run this place care deeply about their product, reputation and customers. We'll definitely be back often and I can't recommend it highly enough. PS: the bourbon, grapefruit juice, rosemary honey syrup is also delicious. read more

This place is awful! We went in on Sunday, 11/13 and the waitress was miserable and unfriendly. The music playing was entirely too loud. We were unable to relax and have a conversation. The pizza crust was bland, soft and had no flavor. You can get better pizza at a $1 slice place. Furthermore, 7 dollars for a draft beer way to much. The whole concept is confusing....they don't know whether to sell art, put on concerts or sell lousy pizza. There is no reason to return. read more

Went on opening night and loved it! Had to leave early due to a prior engagement, but the cocktails were great and we loved the fries with whipped lemon ricotta. Really cool ambiance and art around the place and a ton of people came out for the opening. I have to be honest, I've been in here a few times and I'm not that impressed yet, though I haven't been horrified. I have gotten a great kale salad there but it hasn't been the same twice (dressing on the side vs. mixed in, larger portion vs small etc) and honestly it's been annoying. I've uploaded a pic of the kale salad that I got today ($10/ $11) and I just think it's silly now. Bay Ridge is known for its great food and the pizza here is mediocre, service is trying but from what I've seen the owners aren't in to pitching in with the actual work never mind saying hi to the customers (and no, I've never seen the crowd be overbearing at all, most seats open at the bar)...oh and it seems like the waitstaff are consistently in charge of keeping the kids busy while also tending bar/tables. And yes, I'll likely keep giving them a shot because a few of their bartenders know how to make a great martini and I've enjoyed them, the reality is that I'm not sold that the food is worth the expense, especially with the pretty fantastic pizza at multiple places within a 3 block radius. read more

I have been in the Firefly twice now, and I am a fan for sure. The ambiance is easy, warm and friendly. I had the Gelston Avenue cocktail and it was absolutely perfect. We then went to a table and ordered a LORD OF BROOKLYLN pizza it was DAMN it was delicious. We also ordered the FIG-Getaboutit calzone. Very tasty with fig, ricotta prosciutto.mmm.. The meatball was also very delicious, however, I think a bit overpriced for one large meatball $12 I cant wait until they have live music as the back room has a small stage and looks like a great place to hang out and enjoy music in the hood. One recommendation I could make is that the staff needs to be trained. While they were friendly they are so totally inexperienced that it could be a problem for this place. There was only one woman who actually had a clue and she was overseeing the bar and the restaurant. Despite this shortcoming, I will go back... probably again and again and hope that the staff gets more adept as time goes on. read more

Came here last night at a spur of the moment for drinks...it was a Sunday night and kinda cold to be out and about so the restaurant/bar was almost empty. We didn't mind that because we literally had the entire back room to ourselves, it was nice and cozy. I had the firefly 75 drink and my friend had an alcoholic lemonade beverage and wine and we split French fries with truffle oil and aioli sauce. Drinks were phenomenal and so were the fries. Staff was lovely, not too overbearing or hovering us like many places do and the ambiance is cute, with a stage where I'm sure live bands play at times and they also had outdoor seating; kind of reminding me I was at an outdoor picnic or at a winery. Menu looked delicious, but we weren't hungry which means I'll be back for food :) and of course drinks. Oh and one more thing, the place closed at 10 but we didn't know that and when we were ready to leave, no one ushered us out or reminded us that they close at 10 to which I thought that was nice and respectful thing to do. Price wise? Not cheap, but not crazy expensive either. Good place to go for a last min drinks in Brooklyn. read more

Solid place. Limited menu. Basically a nice pizza place. Menu is pizzas,calzones a few red sauce sandwiches. A few speciality cocktails and desert cocktails which were nice selections. The inside (this used to be lentos back in the day) has some nice nostalgic pieces. An old radio flyer, Art Deco sound system, sax etc. back area for a small band. This was real nice. 3 piece jazzy Bluesy band. They were fantastic. Menu had some fun old school brooklyn names. Interesting mix of a pizza place with some cool live music. I couldn't tell what direction the place was going for. Old school Italian but mixed drinks and music were more of a hipper cooler vibe. If you want some pizza and music - come here. I joined some friends at Brooklyn Firefly, lastweek. We stepping back into time. It felt like walking into your friends backyard, under a canopy of lights, and warm welcoming faces. I was impressed with the ambiance of this bar/restaurant. The staff was so friendly. There's a long bar with plenty of options. The joint was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate! It felt warm and cozy as Etta James and Al Green played in the background. We started w the Kale House and Baby Arugula salads. Yummy yummy! The salads could be a meal in itself. Then we had the Lord of Brooklyn and Margarita pizza pies, which was so generous we took half home! Its about 15 minutes from the Verranzano Bridge in Brooklyn. We went on a rainy evening, and were seated in a dark area of the dinning room. Your placemat is also your menu so we could hardly see to order - we used a lighter to read the menu. We shared a huge meatball, and a white pizza which were good. I ordered a root beer float (since it was Root Beer Float Day) they did not make this most basic of floats very well. Even though the restaurant had been open at least two hours the staff did not seem set up to give good service or perhaps causal service is the new norm. read more
