I had much higher hopes for this place! I miss Yellow Hook ! The "special" consisting of ONE stuffed pepper was $10, which I waited 40 minutes for, was just OK - Mostly stuffed with rice.. The "shot" of wine, because it wasn't a "glass" of wine was $10. The only reason it didn't get 2 stars is Emily. She was conscientious and attentive. I've been to Firefly more than a few times now and thought I should post this review. I have a lot of mixed feelings, but think that this place could be the best in the area with a few improvements of course. PROS: 1. The pizza is AMAZING! My favorite is the scalabesh "white" pizza which is a must for anyone going. Even my dad who is a picker eater loved it. But, every other pizza I've had there is on point. What makes it good? The dough is seasoned well and is the perfect mix of thin and crisp without becoming burnt. For gourmet pizza, the flavors are spot on even if the price is higher up in the price range than I'd like. 2. Meatballs, salads, and even a few brunch menu items I've had are also very good. I've only had the frittata and kale salad, but must say again that the flavor combos one each were excellent. 3. Atmosphere is very Hipster/vintage which works for the gourmet style menu. I love the light fixtures and tins ceilings they kept. 4. It's local using local artists for the art displayed on the walls and menu as well as the local Family Store. CONS: 1. Inconsistency - While the pizza is always the same, deliciousness. The same can't be said for the Kale salad. The first time I had it it was amazing. They'd mixed the pickled eggs and dressing perfectly with the salad that it almost felt like I was getting every nuance to the dish in every bite like a chopped salad. While the next few times (granted much busier), the dressing was barely on. The same can be said with service which is either great or so slow you wonder where you're waiter is and that soft drink you ordered 15 minutes ago. 2. Unprepared - A lot of the service issues could be fixed if staff were trained more and things like making sure there is enough staff on holidays like Mother's day is a big to do. They also need to have more than two high chairs considering the amount of families in the area. 3. Bar - I love a good drink and a good cocktail though it's sometimes hard to get here if you want something that's not a rail drink. While some drinks on the menu are good, others are just standards that should at least taste good, i.e. the sangria. This is supposed to be a nice sweet drink for those who want a wine mixed cocktail. However, they're using the wrong wine for the red and not the right ingredients to make it work that by the end you just have a watered down red wine. Don't get me wrong I'm not all into just sweet flavored drinks, I'll order a nice Manhattan any time. However, we need to work on just beer, a lack luster wine selection, and some ok cocktails. It doesn't need to be much but if you're going to put cocktails like a sangria on the menu, make sure they're going to taste right. 4. Bathrooms - What's up with the main bathrooms sinks? The trough idea is fine but at least make the main center faucet easy to open and close and not just look aesthetically pleasing. 5. Kid Friendly? - Granted it's a restaurant bar. But, if you're going to be open for brunch and have a kids menu, make sure those with kids have the basics like I don't know a changing table in the handicap bathroom or any bathroom for that matter (men's and women's). More than two high chairs especially around major holidays would work too. 6. Desert = Meh - Considering the pizza, I was hoping the desert options would be just as good. However, all in all it's just ok. Knowing the Family Store and that I can get the same slice for less than half the price a block over doesn't make it worth the price for the blueberry compote (which they ran out of one of the times I went just to try it) and it being warmed up. All in all, I still go back and would still go just for the pizza alone. But, think that with a few changes they could really be the best. read more

This is a bar/restaurant, right? Just asking since the ratio of children to adults had me question that. There were so many toddlers yelling/crying or running around that it gave off a weird ambience while we had our drinks. The vintage jukeboxes were cool and the pizzas were good, aside from the vegan option which had no textural difference, ended up tasting like mush. I guess it's a cool family restaurant but not a bar for young adults to hang out with children. read more

Had the pizza called the lord of brooklyn (if i remember correctly), and the lemon fire fries. The pizza was better in my opinion, and two of us wiped it out clean. A really nice place for a chill dinner and drinks in Bay Ridge, and i would totally recommend it if you're in the area. Quite reasonably priced too! read more

It was the nastiest food ever. I tried their rice balls in my niece's birthday party across the street (Fairytale Island Playground). It was my first time eating it and I loved it so much that I couldn't wait to eat it again. So we were celebrating my husband's birthday at home. Fire fries are so good! They can occasionally be a bit slow on the service but I think that's because they are always hopping. Even though they are always busy the servers tend to be pretty great I also love the Lord of Brooklyn Pizza! read more

I never attended an opening before and the experience was great. My reservation was at 6:00 pm and the place was hopping right after we arrived. I loved the decor and vibe. Felt like I walked back in time with the decor and Jazz music that provided a vintage atmosphere circa 1940s. The Bartender Nati was so accommodating. His sangria was delish. i'm going to start off by saying tonight was an utterly unpleasant experience. me and my two friends drove all the way from staten island to try this place because i read on their site that they have "heated tents". truth be told, we were pretty much sitting in the arctic. the tent wasn't even strapped down on the bottom and was practically about to blow away. however we decided to stay because we already paid the toll. ordered a large pie for me and my friend to share. WE WERE THE ONLY TABLE THERE. The food took forever i'm surprised the season didn't change yet. food finally comes out and the server tells us they made the small pie by accident and asked if we wanted her to put in another small pie to which i replied duh??? it was being shared. the server runs away without ever giving silverware, utensils or napkins. we sit and wait and it's almost spring and the second pie still never came out. at this point we are practically frozen and i go inside to ask for the check and check on the pie. turns out they didn't even put the pie in yet because the kitchen was busy with GRUB HUB ORDERS??????? then tells me it'll be another 20 minutes for the pie after already waiting about 20 minutes. first off, our order got messed up it should have been priority to fix it, second the server should have communicated how "busy" the kitchen was if that was the case. she failed to do every simple task her job requires and made our experience a complete horror. so i told her to forget the second pie and we left there still hungry. mind you i'm a server so there was absolutely no excuse for her godawful service. read more

Being a longtime fan of co-owners Michael "MISTER KAVES" McLeer for over 20+ years I was very excited to learn about his new restaurant venture with co-owner Ray Medina. For my 40th b-day my one and only surprised me with a trip to The Brooklyn Firefly. We hopped in the car and rode to Bay Ridge for an evening of fun, food and family and that's just what we all encountered. Upon arriving, of course had to take the family photo under the The Brooklyn Firefly sign outside. Walked in on a Tuesday night to a full bar and a nice amount of tables enjoying themselves. We got seated instantly at a very nice table that was spacious and relaxing. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very family oriented, which was perfect for us. the music playing ever so perfect while the restaurant goers were enjoying each ones family and friends and delicious looking food. I obviously was very excited to have some of that food where I was sitting, and a couple delicious local brews. At this time Michael "Kaves" McLeer entered his restaurant. I imagine that he was settling down from a days work at his famous tattoo parlor, Brooklyn Made Tattoo. Being a long time supporter I of course wanted to introduce myself and my family. When I did so I couldn't have been happier. Michael stood up and went right over and introduced himself to the family. I asked him to sign a autograph for me, instead he took my DVD case I had to photo in and begun to make a beautiful personalized autographed b-day card for me. His wife later introduce herself to my family and I felt the true family feel of the Brooklyn Firefly. The service was great, the food was absolutely delicious, 2 pizzas..the rosie, and the lord of brooklyn with some rice balls that were outta this world and the family atmosphere made everything I could have asked for 1000 times better. Atmosphere is great. Smoked ricotta pizza was delicious with crispy thin crust. The inside of the rice ball was cold. The wait staff is still work in progress. For example, they didn't know which tables they were covering so we sat for awhile before someone came by and they didn't bother to offer to refill any of our drinks. But overall, it's a good addition to the neighborhood. And I'm sure they'll get better from a servicing perspective. read more

The Brooklyn Firefly. I love this place. Limited menus but what they have is great. I always look forward to the bar time but as of late ( last 2 times) we came up short. First let me say that I adore the people that work here, however the management better step It up a bit. No martini glasses and when the had them we had to bring them back for a new drink. Only 3 in the house. You're kidding right? Also, every martini I ordered was served with three rancid olives that in one case had mold growing on it. I understand that the gray goose Martini is not the most popular drink but you should have a fresh bottle of $4 olives on hand. I aspire to the old yellow hook where at least the drinks were on par. Great big bar so let's make the most of it and not have to choke down a sub par drink. Summer is short so let's make the most of it and improve on the small things that make it worth while. read more

We ordered two pies including a margarita and Lord of Brooklyn both were delicious: thin crispy crust, quality toppings, and delicious sauce. As far as bay ridge gourmet pizza places go, I think this is in my top two. The competition is between this place and Campania. I went with a friend the other night and really enjoyed everything we ordered. I had the spinach rice balls witch were so so good, their special fries and a Verrazano pizza. Plus the staff is kind and attentive and the atmosphere is laid back. I really have no complaints. I can't wait to see it in the summer with the outdoor tables! read more

Long story short, the food is delicious, but the service is some of the worst I've ever experienced. Food first: The giant meatball is HUGE! I don't know how they got it to cook all the way through without it drying out completely. There's melted cheese on the inside, and the meatball sits on a pool of Italian red sauce and ricotta cheese. We got the spinach & mushroom riceballs as well, which were super cheesy and savory and came with even more ricotta cheese. The kale salad complemented them well. We also got an egg cream--the seltzer used was pretty flat, but tasted just fine. I liked that it wasn't too sweet. Service experience: My husband and I visited The Brooklyn Firefly yesterday, on a late Sunday afternoon. We were looking forward to trying this place since we were big fans of Yellow Hook Grille which used to be at this location. No one greeted us when we went in and stood at the entrance. The woman behind the bar literally looked at us, then turned away and ignored us completely. I decided to ventured in and flagged down a young man for assistance. The inside of the restaurant was empty when I arrived, so we sat outside where there were other people. The young man who was kind enough to show us to a table was probably the only staff member who showed us a smile the entire time we were there. Our server was curt, and never checked up on us. We hardly saw any waitstaff outside throughout the course of our meal, and had to flag someone down after a long time of waiting in order to get our check. When we got our check, we got a card out to pay immediately, but the server had already disappeared by the time we put the card down. Then we waited. And waited. And waited... For some reason NOW was the time employees started making the rounds through the outdoor area. Staff members ended up passing by us 7 separate times before one of them picked up the card we placed with the check at the edge of our table. By the time we were finished signing the payment slip, the outdoor area was 100% free of staff again. As we walked out, no one said "thank you" or "goodbye"... The service was truly abysmal. I'm not sure why the staff would all completely disappear/reappear at once, and why there was never anyone on door duty. If my server disappears and doesn't come back for a while, I get it, they have a lot to juggle--but there should be at least one other person on the floor that can be flagged down if people need help. I also don't understand why it took so long for someone to swipe our card--don't they want guests who are done eating to pay and leave so they can use the table again? I'm not sure if I came in on a bad night or what. It wasn't that busy (about 12 tables filled) and they appeared adequately staffed (at least 5 people on the floor). I'm sad that what would've been a good meal was soured by the poor service here. read more

Great date spot with tasty pizza. Compared to other local "fancy pizza" they have a good pie that is reasonably priced. Other places one might argue have a better pie but very close. The live music on weekend evenings makes it an awesome place for an affordable date. Good drinks. Make sure you ask for some hot honey with the pizza. read more

I recently went for the 3rd time to the bar. I have not had a dining experience there. But the first 2 times I went to the bar was when the place first opened and I just figured they had a few kinks to work out. However, I recently went back after they have been open for almost a yr and it was awful. We were the only ones at the bar and we probably waited about 10min for service. We just wanted a few beers, nothing crazy, and we were the only ones there. This was a similar experience to my initial two visits. Very disappointing considering it's a great location and great atmosphere. read more

Came in on a Sunday night and had the Mook pizza at the bar. SO good and even my non vegan boyfriend really liked it. Added artichokes and highly recommend. My boyfriend got some of the rice balls and was not a huge fan, said the t crude was off and kind of bland, but liked the sauce. We will be back for some nice thin, crispy pizza for sure! One word - WOW! What an incredible restaurant! First, let's talk about the decor. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you're taking a step back in time - from the tile floor, to the 30s & 40s Jazz & big band standards, to the bistro string lights that you may have seen in your grandparents Brooklyn backyard growing up - being at The Brooklyn Firefly just feels good to your senses. Next, let's discuss the food & service. We were a large group of people attending a fundraiser for Puerto Rico - which speaks to the owners' kindness, using the restaurant as a way to give back to others so desperately in need. After delicious drinks at the bar (Nick is an awesome bartender!), we were seated immediately for dinner. Our server, Chrissy, was warm, attentive, and kept the drinks & pizzas coming! We had the margherita pie, which had a delicate, thin crust, all fresh ingredients, and with fresh basil on the top, it was really delicious. Next, we tried the fungi pie. REALLY INCREDIBLE. A white pie with mushrooms AND truffle oil? So well done and absolutely divine! We also had the bad racket & the Verrazano bridge pies (told you that we were a large group!) and both were equally wonderful! As quickly as we were adding to our order was as quickly as Chrissy was bringing out the pies. The decor is inviting, the food & drinks are top notch, the menu is inventive and different from other restaurants in the neighborhood, the staff is warm & attentive, and the owners give back on a local & global level. Stopped by for late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday while on a long walk from the Slope. Not crowded at all. Food was excellent! Had the aioli fries, shroom pizza and almond cone cheesecake. Fries were hand cut, cooked perfectly. Pizza was one of the best I've ever had. Fresh mushrooms, not dry or watery & perfectly baked crust...delicious! Pizza was more than enough for two people. With the fries and desert we brought 3 slices home. Desert was awesome as well, crispy cone with whipped cheesecake, delicious almond, caramel flavor. 2 stars because food was good, nothing great. At 130 on a Sunday, how could you not have soup and run out of bread for the pesto sandwich? Restaurant wasn't busy and servers couldn't handle the small crowd. Service was terrible!! The guaranteed 20% gratuity to parties of 6 (we were 4 adults and 3 kids) or more is a go ahead for your server Ashley to be rude, to do minimal serving and just an all around awful job. She should have told us this when we sat down that the gratuity would be added. Yes, its printed on the bottom of your menu, but who really pays attention to the fine print on the bottom of the menu. Nexr, you should provide what is stated on the menu, such as your shakes. Your $10 shake is mostly whipped cream and had none of the fixings stated on your menu. When I inquired about where the fixings were (rock candy stick, sour strip and other candy) Ashley asked, "what fixings?" Um, how about the fixings described on the menu. Then she rudely responded while smirking and giggling and said, "they're there you just can't see them. They're mixed in." Really? Are they blended in? I mean really!! Then she said, "They were there. I put them on top." Well then where were they? They were not there. $10 for whipped cream and sprinkles. She said she'd bring them and she brought sprinkles in a cup. On a $250+ bill, including a $45+ tip for NOTHING, I expect to have better service. Our water wasn't refilled. We were never asked how everything was. We had a pizza appetizer and nothing was cleared from the table before they brought out our entrees. So we asked another waiter or busboy (we didnt get his name) to take the dishes we had piled to make room, he took 1 plate, the top plate of the pile. Btw, your Bloody Mary was disgusting too. All around disappointed and won't be brunching here again. You should teach your wait staff instead of giving them a go ahead to be careless. read more

Waited nearly 2 hours for delivery. The person answering the calls was nice and apologetic and she had no control over how busy it had gotten there today. But it was initially promised the pizza would arrive in about 35 minutes but didn't. The person taking orders did call to say there was going to be another 20 minutes on the delivery. But that 20 minutes turned nearly into an hour. I felt, considering the delivery initially was for 35 minutes, there should be some small compensation. All the manager offered was rice balls. Which seemed like a joke. Mike, the delivery guy, was both empathetic and apologetic. The girl taking the orders and Mike the delivery get 5 stars. The Manager, gets none! The Manager has ALLOT to work on in getting orders ready and for delivery at a reasonable time. read more

Went last nite, 4 days after the grand opening. Didn't eat so this review is based solely on my bar experience. The bartender Sean was extremely inexperienced. He tried to charge us double for a few rounds & didn't buy back once. He just couldn't seem to keep track of anything & the bar wasn't even crowded to say he was distracted bc of volume. He also made 2 of the worst gin Martini's Ive ever had & at $15 a pop I expected a slight buzz at the very least, got nuthin. If they're gonna serve any kinda cocktail besides beer this kid's gotta go. Now onto the beer. They literally ran out of every single tap as we ordered & $7 draft is waaayy too expensive, especially for a Wednesday nite. The only cold beer was a bottled Peroni, which was our last option. Im sorry to say, big disappointment. I'm gonna try to chalk it up to grand opening kinks & possibly give this place another shot. But with sooo many choices in Bay Ridge, they gotta get their act together, quick. 2 stars for hope... read more

Still trying to figure it out...Inside the restaurant was very nice plenty of space, but quickly this got complicated. Walk in hostess greets us....I would say 80 percent of tables available for dining are empty... sits my girlfriend and I in the back corner of the restaurant boxed in by a table of four right on top of us...made absolutely no sense. Worked in the service industry for years and you never seat people right by the kitchen unless you absolutely have to let alone when there was at least 20 open tables. Now it just gets interesting. We tell the hostess we will sit by a table by the bar which is considered bar seating.....at every restaurant I've ever worked in and been at, a two top even if not in the main dining room but by the bar should always get a server ...even if it's the bartender. We soon found out we had to go to the bar and put our own drink and food order in..not really a big deal but still just like "huh". Food comes ...pizza was amazing ...very good food...table was so small between the pie and plates it didn't work whatsoever......no napkins nothing with the pizza had to go the bar and was given coaster napkins...both of my girlfriends martinis had multiple ice cubes left in them....have never complained about a restaurant ever before but after having to go through all this it blew me away. read more
