I didn't take too many photos and I'm not impressed by this place. We had a party of 12 with a reservation. When we arrived the table was not ready. They prepared a table as we waited with a round and a rectangle put together. It was very uncomfortable. The round table had a metal bend in the middle making the wine glasses tip. The service was very good despite their limited English! The food was not great. The calamari were hard. The octopus was a tiny piece in plate with chickpeas and olives. They brought an appetizer plate with mozzarella in carozza which was not good and fried triangle shaped overcooked capellini. It must be their specialty. I didn't care for any of the appetizer items. I passed on ordering a dinner plate after trying the apps. I tried some spinach with garlic and that was excellent. The most disturbing part of the evening was the check. They bring it with a couple of things scribbled and not legible on it and the total. They have always included their tip with parties! My friend paid and assuming the tip was included and she is very generous she added another $100. She completed the check at the counter. Everything seemed fine. After some time back at her seat and not immediately the server came back to the seat and in front of the whole table he embarrassed her and came to ask her for more money saying they didn't get enough tip money. He said They need money to pay the staff! They usually add the tip but this time they didn't! Looking at the receipt which was not itemized at all, she had no idea what she paid for. Only a very expensive dinner. I feel like she got scammed with the entire experience as she was an elderly person trying to do something special for her anniversary. Coming from Central Jersey and meeting friends coming in from Long Island, we decided to meet somewhere in Brooklyn near Kings Plaza. What a great find this restaurant was. Delicious food, pretty decor, great service, on site owners who we spoke to for a while, and are really nice people. Caesar salads were excellent, the grilled calamari was a large portion of very tasty food, and everyone was very happy with their main courses: Veal Parmesan, grilled pork chops, Bronzino, chicken scarapiello. Serving a party of 35 is not an easy task! We were in the back party room with tables set up in a U and the room could easily accommodate twice that many people. The service was impeccable and impressive because the waitstaff were obviously highly trained and attentive, knowing exactly when a wine or water glass needed filling, food was served quickly or when dishes or utensils needed to be changed or cleared. House red & white wines set on the table in carafes were constantly refilled and crusty Italian bread was in no short supply. Our select menu started with antipasti, served family style, starting with Crispy Calamari and Breaded Zucchini & Yellow Squash, all perfectly batter dipped, breaded and fried. The squash were super hot and almost burned my tongue, but you know they were seasoned right as they came out of the hot oil, perfectly golden and accompanied by sweet marinara sauce. These were followed by Mussels Marinara, all plump and sweet. Following a traditional Italian meal, the pasta course was served in the form of Penne a la Vodka for everyone. We had a couple of vegans and gluten-free diets in our party and they were accommodated without hesitation. For entrées, we had a choice of Fillet of Sole Oreganata, Italian NY Strip Steak or Veal Sorrentino, all with a side of sautéed string beans and a cheesy croquette. I opted for the flounder which was very flavorful and of course heavy on the garlic. My wife had the steak and I was most grateful that she shared some with me. For the vegans, the chef was able to make a Grilled Vegetable Medley and for the gluted-free, Grilled Pork Chops. Of course, dessert was served family style as well with Italian Cheesecake and Tartufo w/ Layered Chocolate & Vanilla Ice Cream, all washed down with coffee, espresso or cappuccino. I even took the ice cream out of my tartufo and made my own affogato, though they probably would have made me one! One of the best experiences I've had.! We had reservations and was seated right away . It was clearly not a busy evening but it was perfect . The ambience was giving romantic vibes. Our server did an amazing job. He went over the specials with us and it was such a hard decision because everything sounded so good We settled for zucchini flowers , octopus, calamari meatballs for appetizers , entrees were chicken Marsala , salmon pieces wth pasta and peas , sea bass , and pork chops. My daughter once again picked Dolce Vita to host my granddaughter's first birthday party. Once again they came through with flying colors! I am so glad she chose this fabulous restaurant again. I recognized the servers from last year, and they did not disappoint. Food was again fantastic,top notch service was once again fantastic, I just can't say enough about this place! The servers even come by and clear crumbs off the table! Always make sure water glasses were filled, made sure you have enough of everything. Just first class all around!!!! Their food is really good imo but they are a bit pricey and the service is a bit lacking. When you sit down, they bring around a bread basket which was tasty. We ordered the meatball app and the baked clams - both delicious and not enough tbh. My friend had the seafood fra diavolo and I had the chicken Francese with broccoli and the potato croquette. It needed a bit of seasoning but I generally liked my meal. The prices are a little higher than expected but I would definitely return again. The service wasn't great. There weren't many people in the back room where we were seated but we were waiting for a while to get our orders taken. Also, there was a large group practically screaming at each other. Word: Amazing. I mean from the second I walked into Dolce Vita it was a fabulous experience. This is truly and neighborhood hidden gem of an Italian restaurant. You walk into a lovely bar area and are immediately greeted by the owner, George. A delightful person who was genuinely happy to say hello to his guests and prepare you for a wonderful meal. We were a group of 12 friends. Joe, the regular in the restaurant, hosted us and ordered appetizers to pass around including a Calamari - which was AMAZING and Mozzarella and Tomatoes, also fantastic. Sitting here was like being in an old school dining spot. It seems like everyone here new everyone here. And the newbies were welcomed to join the family. There were lots of main dishes going on around here and everyone was dipping into every thing. Not even sure of what I was enjoying BUT, I was enjoying everything. Clearly, I should have been back already but sadly I have not. I will and document more of the dishes. Some advice though... DO NOT fill up on the amazing bread... Luiz (Head Waiter) & Anthony couldn't have been more on point with their hospitality & professional attitude towards a total stranger. After reading rave reviews about DV on a marine park Facebook group my boyfriend and I decided to try this close to home restaurant for my birthday dinner just the two of us -DV is a visually attractive restaurant and the service and the food are AMAZING! DELICIOUS Italian cuisine and attentive service -they make a red sauce that would make any Italian grandma proud! Their menu and specials are quite extensive! We were thrilled they were offering zucchini flowers last night - we shared zucchini flowers which was lightly fried, breaded and with cheese and that red sauce -yumilicious! We also shared the stuffed artichoke - again absolutely delicious! We ordered the same main dish - seafood Fra Diavolo -warning it's very spicy but still delicious and with a very generous serving of sea food and your choice of pasta They made my birthday special when desert came around - a sparkling candle on my way too sweet cheesecake cone and almost the whole restaurant joined in to sing happy birthday! I give this great restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 because wow are the acoustics bad! We were there on a Wednesday evening and place was full mostly small and medium sized groups dining and they were noisy - if you are looking for a quiet romantic evening where you can hear each other speak unless the place is empty I don't think this would be your best pick - we really did LOVE the food and the service! read more

I have never heard of this place but came for an occasion tonight. I was not told much about the menu upon agreeing to attend because I am not picky. The fixed menu did not include the original offers that I discovered after. As everyone ordered nothing was appealing to me the choices were veal, chicken or fish. I asked the waiter if there was a vegetarian choice he said eggplant. The food came out as I struggled to cut the eggplant with my fork, felt like plastic was in between. I continued to try and find a soft piece maybe a hard piece of cheese but the whole thing was hard. I motioned to the waiter and told him no good. He asked if I wanted something else I was turned off by whatever that was I ate. Later came the cake which had a white hair in it along with my burnt coffee. I got up to pay my bar bill and quietly was telling the waiter what I discovered. All of a sudden a very loud voice said you can tell me,come on! Shouting. I'm the owner! I said what are you screaming for? I told him about my experience he tells me he yells because he is European. Needless to say the food did not come off the bill, the bill was given in one lump sum with the gratuity already included and tax. This owner didn't give a s--t about nothing not even a apology. Mister owner.... Your food is disgusting and so is your attitude. Yes the restaurant had people in it, probably regulars but the fixed menu with only choices that cost me $78 that I didn't even eat. It's really hard to find nice restaurants in the Canarsie area (and by nice I mean non-diners). Thankfully Dolce fits the bill. Although it's not terribly large, it is spacious enough to accommodate bigger groups and has a full bar. The staff is always professional, friendly and helpful. The food is perfect with warm bread to start. My friend and I both ordered the spaghetti and meatballs but substituted Angel Hair pasta with no problem. For dessert we shared the Spumoni Bomba (suggested by the waiter) and it was fabulous. Although Dolce is closed on Mondays, it is a welcome, classy staple to the Mill Basin/Canarsie area. The wait staff made an otherwise so so experience a bit brighter. Tuesday's, $29.95 appetizer, entree and a glass of wine. Only a few tables held guests. The food was nothing to rave about. I never liked the glass bottles of olive oil because they do go rancid and who knows how often they are filled/changed. I miss Pinocchio's little bowls of ricotta for the bread. I miss Pinocchio's, period. This place can never compare. Who still makes polenta? So early 2000's, in my opinion. My tomato app was presented nicely. My steak was cooked to the correct temperature. Since I wrote my original review, Dolce Vita has become a staple in our restaurant vocabulary. And now, due to the quarantine, we had to order delivery. You know how most restaurants find it difficult to keep the same quality in their delivery? NOT THE CASE HERE! The portions were just as generous, steaming hot and delicious. They delivered it with all the extras (grated cheese, ricotta and bread,)without asking for it. In these times we have to support our neighborhood businesses and I will certainly be supporting this one. Don't miss their grilled octopus! My fave! Second time at the restaurant and the food was very good both times. Grilled octopus is probably the best that I ever had. The fried calamari was also very well cooked. The entries was also excellent. Has the feel of a nice neighborhood restaurant. Get the feeling that a lot of the patrons are repeat customers, possibly from the neighborhood, as it seems like a lot of the patrons know each other. The owner also seems to know quite a few of them. I'm not from the neighborhood, but nonetheless, the service was great and the owner even stopped by to inquire how our dinner was. Let me state my conclusion first: I would not eat at this restaurant again if they offered it to me for free. The food? It's decent. Not great but decent. Prices? High. Manhattan prices in a middle-class Brooklyn 'hood. The atmosphere? Extremely loud (more on that later). The owners? I've learned in life not to give business to, or do business with such people. I came to see a performer (a singer with background music) that we had seen once before, about six months ago. My wife, and a friend (who knew the singer personally, we didn't), accompanied me. Midway in the second set, while she was speaking in between songs, the owner handed her money and told her to wrap things up! To me this is a gross violation of a verbal agreement. You hire a performer for a set time, you agree to hire them for that set time. I heard he claimed the music was too loud. SHE'S A LOUNGE SINGER FOR CHRISSAKES. I was not 10 feet away and had trouble hearing her over the very loud crowd there. I have the video to prove that the crowd was louder than her, it's up on FB. I've been around the local scene long enough to have seen my share of owners screw bands and singers like this in order to save a few bucks, and that's exactly what happened here. The singer left in tears (along with her husband), and we left shortly after. At least I had the consolation of saving money on drinks and dessert (we had just finished dinner, and we drink a decent amount after dinner as a habit). For the three of us, this could have come to decent money. When an establishment screws a performer so easily, a customer can only wonder if that establishment will do the same to him. Skimp on portions? Water down drinks? Overcharge? Serve inferior food to get rid of it? Who knows. I won't be back to find out. My wife also managed to witness the owner verbally abusing the (female) bartender, an additional treat for the evening. Like I said, I'm not desperate enough to give business to owners with no integrity, class, or style. As someone who has dabbled a little in music himself, what went down was a personal affront to me. My wife and I eat at the nearby Gourmet Grill (it's great) and were looking for other places in the neighborhood. This sure won't be one of them. Maybe the owner feels smug with his "regulars", but again, I've been around, and I've seen regulars drop out little by little. And the owners won't have me or anyone I know to replace them, that's for sure. By the way, I've given over 60 reviews on Yelp, and I believe this is only my 4th one that's only 1 or 2 stars (feel free to check this out). I don't make a habit of bad-mouthing businesses. One has to earn it. They certainly did. In conclusion, if you're looking for a quiet and decent place to eat, well, it ain't quiet, and it certainly ain't decent. read more

Made reservations for Easter dinner here and when I arrived the place was poppin! We were seated in the other dining hall which wasn't as crowded and noisy. Unfortunately, it took awhile for us to get menus. We attacked the bread while we waited. After almost 10 minutes of waiting we were presented with menus. In all the food was delicious, however, service was something else to be desired. Maybe it was the Easter holiday that had them being so busy, but I had to get a busboy to refill my water and another round of drinks. (A large party of 16 ended up being seated near us.) If you order off of the menu, then the food is great!! My two friends had a great meal!! I ordered one of the specials and was greatly disappointed!! They say never to order specials because that is where the chef/ owner is getting rid of leftover foods. They are right and I should have listened!! I ordered the Tuna and it was terrible...overcooked and swimming in onions and sauce. As it was so overcooked I sent it back. The Tuna I got back was worse.... the edges were black and the center raw. It was chewy. I left it on the plate. The waiter was very nice and apologetic but the owner was not. Said it had already been prepared twice... So my advice is to go here as the food off the menu is great and stay away from the specials!!! read more

The last time I ate at the restaurant was in 2019 prior to Covid 19. The food and service was excellent then as it was this past Saturday night. My wife and I were joined by two friends who also enjoyed their evening. My Doctor friend probably drove the staff and hostess crazy with his antics but a good time was had by all. The food was excellently prepared. I had the Bronzino special which I would certainly recommend if it is offered again.
